Anyone else completely given up on new games? I don't expect to find vidya fulfillment in new releases anymore, there's just nothing worth being hyped over, devs of all sizes have given up

There's 600+ games coming out every week now but these days I find more gems just looking for old games I never played, I'm going through the PS2 library right now and the quality density is insane

505.jpg - 600x500, 234.99K

I just play indie roguelike deckbuildes.
Comfy and you always know what to expect and each has their own twist.
Downloading Monster Train 2 as I'm writing this.

No.
I have turned almost completely to older games, yes.
But I still find things to enjoy, if at a heavy discount.
Picked up dead island 2 ultimate for less than $30 on a key sale recently.
Its janky, its full of intentional californiacation, the character development and a fair bit of the story is either ass or poorly written and its a ripoff in a lot of ways of dying light.

And yet so many times under it I keep finding within the gameplay, the world, and within the dialogue something with heart, soul and effort behind it.

So I ain't going to give up yet.
But I wont even look at something without it beyond under a certain price or having a certain rep behind it.

what is this girl from

PS2 library

quality density

I got a good chuckle out of that. Outside a couple dozen or so games it quickly drops into shovelware trash.

Expedition 33

Hundred Line

Fantasy Life

MH Wilds

FF7 Rebirth

Suikoden I & II

Avowed

Phantom Brave 2

I've thoroughly enjoyed every title I got this year with the exception of MH Wilds.

I've just given up on sweaty games. My arm tendons and reaction speed ain't what it used to be...

Starfield and GTA 6 have deflated any hype I might've had for the future of games, not only are they not innovating at all gameplay-wise, their creative capabilities have plummeted and their next flagship games won't even be worth it for the world and story

I wish Bethesda could go back to being a small dev making Morrowind tier games for every region of Tamriel every 2-3 years, with jank and bad graphics, but also with weird unique and soulful creativity

I recently played and enjoyed nine sols
Im looking forward to the Lies of P DLC
But most of the time, games I enjoy are ones that come out of nowhere and I end up loving because i went in with no expectations
Not feeling hype anymore is a good thing and shows you're growinga

Roguelite deckbuilders just make me feel like what my mom looks like playing Bejeweled, it's just a "numbers go up" distraction, not quality vidya time

Re-Life

I've given up period

I'm looking forward to Nightmare House Reimagining, I enjoyed In Sound Mind enough to have faith.

My only hope is if they're gonna stylize the spooky ghost girl to be sorta cute then I want some endearing back and forth between her and the protag.

There are at least 10-15 new games i want to play every single year, and this has been the case for the last 25 years. It's easy when you're not a bitching bitterboy.

There are some good games coming out. I think Stellar Blade will be pretty good and it's the only game I'm actually hyped for and I was playing an indie game about a Spanish swordswoman that was decent.

I play a lot less newer titles just due to them being not worth the time, effort and money and just not having people IRL to talk to about the shit I play, but there are still gems out there, just like there's still good music in the sea of normalfaggot trash and tryhard, bullshit. You just have to look for it and be lucky.
It's not the 90s or the 2000s where you could find good games in a very passive manner since it was so ubiquitous or even the 2010s where most of the landscape was subpar, but you could get some enjoyment out of it (the same analogy works for music and films as well really).

I think gaming is quite shit nowadays, but there's still things to be hyped for (even if mildly) to this day.

Get a fucking job loser

I enjoyed video games so much more when my parents bought them for me

I've been pirating games for as long as I remember so I'm unbiased in that regard, games were just better then

You still can't experience modern games since you definitely have a shit computer

I have 4070 Super and a 14700K, enough to run basically everything coming out these days

Next you'll say "you're not REALLY playing them unless it's 4k/120FPS on an OLED" to cope some more about the pisspoor state of games

Nowadays I almost exclusively play older/retro games with the exception of the occasional game that catches my attention (ie Elden Ring, E33). Fuck anyone who makes the claim that indies are saving the industry, 99,9% is derivative low effort slop. I'd rather take my chance with an obscure SNES game than play another pixelshit rouglite deckbuilder metroidvania that's an allegory for mental illness. The only indies worth a damn are the likes of Euro Truck Sim and Kerbal Space and they barely qualify as games.

i've given up on everything

Just finished replaying Ys: Memories of Celceta. Now I'm playing RE4 and RE4 Remake side by side and it's been a lot of fun comparing the two as I go.

I'm going through the PS2 library right now and the quality density is insane

name 4 of the games you played

Post more lgs

pic rel singlehandedly restored my faith in the vidya industry. I feel ashamed for having pirated previous installments of the game series, and buying this shit was literally the best way I could spend €35 (it was on discount, but 100% deserves the full price too). I'm not joking, adult me sees this the same way that kid me saw Sa Nandreas. So far I poured 60 hours into the game and I'm about halfway through. BTW I switched the language to Spanish so that I don't feel like I'm just wasting my time "playing those silly games", but rather this is language immersion for me.

But I agree, this game is an exception, most new games are garbage. I assume that Yakuza series isn't popular in the west because it's too sophisticated for westoids, who demand AI-generated corporate slop.

Yakuza

sophisticated

What changed after 6 to earn that description?

you're not REALLY playing them unless it's 4k/120FPS on an OLED

I never understood this mindset, you used to play at 1080/60 just fine a few years ago, how are games suddenly unplayable now?

"Noo you can't drive this older reliable car that gets the job done, you HAVE to drive the new 100k BMW with the ipad dashboard that is programmed to break after 20k miles stop being poor?!!"

Nearly all of my favourite games are ones i bought with my allowance :)

all shit.

Anyone else completely given up on new games?

I haven't purchased a video game since 2014.
Someone dumping a fucking SNES prototype is more exciting than anything I've seen in years.

ps2.jpg - 631x486, 55.9K

bro just do drugs at this point until you OD and call it a day

mfw I unironically enjoy newer games as well as the classics

cover1.jpg - 1600x900, 198.16K

Honestly I played previous games long ago, so I don't remember much, therefore it's difficult to make a direct comparison, BUT this one:
1. Is fucking fun (unlike most games which aim to please cattleniggers and shareholders)
2. Has a lot of content that is actually enjoyable (rather than creating a huge empty open world that nobody gives a fuck about or 99999 cars nobody wants to drive)
3. Shows that games can be a form of art (not super deep but still)

BTW it was awkward for me to watch pic rel because I'm a certified faggot and I'd love them to make an option of Kasuga going on a date with a big strong fat hairy man...

Still excited to play this masterpiece when it releases. I'm nearly about to beat the 1st game and loving it so far. It's nearly everything I've wanted from a classic survival horror game

Examples on quality vidya time?

Anyone else completely given up on new games?

I was playing with that thought, but a smallish team put something out recently that made me dare to hope again.

Your opinion is worth less than nothing to me, and everyone in your life.

Yep.
Even if some of them look interesting they usually aren't and are burdened with serious issues.
Also the ''in your face'' spam of fomos really turn me off from them

i don’t play new games because i’m clearing up my backlog.

What new media is there to look forward to? The movie industry is a mess of remakes, reboots, poorly executed ideas, nepotism, homogenized franchises and milking IPs that should have been killed off eons ago. Games have gotten irrevocably worse due to corporate greed, the hiring of incompetent faggots and thirdies and treating the customer like scum. What new books are there to read? Whos the next Tolkien or Robert E. Howard, the next Shakespeare? Whos the next upcoming musical band that will take the world by the storm?

Humanity is in a cultural decline that would take something catastrophic to course correct or remedy. And I'm not sure thats something people are ready to embrace yet as a possibility.

y5656757.jpg - 500x414, 38.06K

I just listen to audiobooks of old books
currently moving through greek classics and primary sources - really enjoable

it's because Anon Babble is full of viral marketers.

something something le poorfags you have to render our george floyd samurai game in 4k or you are not a true gamer, don't forget tip on your $3000 GPU :^)

I go onto abandonware sites and install old games i didn't play back then. I'm perma stuck in the mindset of only 2000-2006 matters.

I play indie ultrapuzzlers and various species of score attack games.
You doomfaggots will never be as happy as me.
Life is good and it never stopped being good.

I hope old games get ruined too somehow. Forced patches to make them shitty, all hardware fails and Roms get fucked irreversibly. Hiding is the cowards way out

Yes. The last NEW game I played was FFXIV.

it's a shame she's almost only known for the stupid meme rather than the excellent manga

there's just nothing worth being hyped over

.t retard who only knows of the most mainstream games

What new books are there to read?

In fantasy fiction I'm actually finding that I may run out. I'm at the point where I'm picking up old books at completely random and dropping them after a few chapters. All of my favorite authors are either dead, lazy, or their series are done outside of Sanderson who has always been and continues to be super hit or miss.
And I just can't get into other genres.

It's really impossible to explain to Zoomers how quickly the world used to change, how dramatically, how much promise and possibility was in front of us
How things were hyped and then lived up to the hype, you'd anticipate The Biggest Game In The World and then you'd play it and it'd somehow be even BETTER than you imagined

That spark thrived all the way back to the NES era but it died somewhere early in the PS360

hey man, the fighting scene is still cool, some argue better than ever. even if you dont like fight sports, i'm sure you could find some other kinda sport you like

Time has slowed down and sped up all at once

Doom Eternal is older right now than Wolfenstein 3D was when Unreal came out

you are the biggest faggot on this whole site. death to all namefags

The last 18 years have felt stagnant overall.

stop playing AAA slop retard

Fuck anyone who makes the claim that indies are saving the industry, 99,9% is derivative low effort slop

The sentiment comes from people who have latched onto one or two decent to okay indie games. It's hard to find anywhere that just has people wanting to make games for the sake of it anymore.

I occasionally check out some new H-games. I wasted $2500 canada bux a few months ago to build a new gaming pc, upgrading from the 12 year old one I'd been using, and the only "newish" game I've used it for is Elden Ring (it was worse than DS3 which was already several tiers below the rest of the souls games).

Lately I've just been playing various Zelda randomizers and other 20+ year old games. Will maybe pirate Stellar Blade when the denuvo drops.

I think the issue comes from the fact that pop-culture has been cannibalizing itself for a while now, so you have media that is build on references to media that is also build on references.
Also people have developed a cult-like devotion to Media, (and so the celebrity, the artist, the developer, and writer have become the new priest caste, with Executives of media companies being the Bishops and popes)

yes, but then again BG3 was good

Truest words. Every indie game I've played is just a worse copy of the original.

gta 3 did it first guys

The sign of a clueless moron and Rockstar drone.

faggot
