I knew we'd eventually hit $80 games, but I always thought one of the famously greedy companies like EA or Activision would be the first to try and get away with it. Not fucking Nintendo and Borderlands. It is so confusing that they are the first to try it when they've always been seen as "lower end", meanwhile the ones you'd expect to cost $80 are still sticking with 70 for now.

...It's fucking Borderlands, it will probably be given away for free on EGS three months after launch.

I thought one of the greedy companies would do it

not nintendo

nintendo is charging all non-japs 500 bucks for a giant turd of a console that's a decade behind everything else and you thought 80 dollars was beyond them?

Nintendo was one of the only companies to stay at $60 while everyone else was going $70. This seems out of left field for them.

Borderlands 3 was so terrible and cringy you couldn't pay to me play 4, let alone spend 80 bucks on it.

Still buying games at whatever the market dictates prices will be.

Exactly though, that's why you'd think they'd start with a lower price and try and trick people into buying it rather than charging extra and then nobody buys it until they give it out for free. Also you know what's funny is they've never gave out the original Borderlands for free on EGS, just 2, TPS, and 3. For some reason despite 1 being a game from 16 years ago they still want you to buy it.

i havent bought a game at full price in the last 15 years
except clair obscur

They also literally never put those games on sale

Every single company has been salivating at the thought of charging more money for less. They were all just waiting for someone else to do it first so they don't take the heat for it
Nintendo went ahead and did it because you'll fucking buy it anyway

This industry deserves a collapse.

Nintendo being willing to take the heat is crazy. They usually stay clear of drama

I have a question. Why do some people call it Clair Obscur and some people call it Expedition 33. Which one is the actual title of the game?

to discuss this story, here's an adult man dressed like Goku

Good goy

tariffs going cray cray

full title is Clair Obsur: Expedition 33
They've taken worse heat. Everyone will get over it because they must consoom

I mean Goku is an adult. Who else would wear his clothes but an adult

Starfield charged $100 for 5-days early access. Monster Hunter Wilds charged $110 for premium deluxe edition that I think is mostly just costumes. Doom: The Dark Age charged $100 for 2-days early access. People paid for them no problem. Why are people angry over one game being $80? Variable pricing has existed since the 80s. If you don't like it then just wait for it to go on sale like everything else. Nobody has a gun to your head to buy a certain game that these youtubers keep making it sound like they are doing. Most fiscally responsible people have emergency funds for entertainment or in case something terrible happens. Not everyone is just living paycheck to paycheck.

True. Im dressed like Batman right now. It's only logical

Honestly these prices rises make me glad I ditched console for pc about 5 years ago. I won't even miss these games

Is 80 dollars a lot or something? Get a job.

And this new one was already off to a rocky start. The trailers make it look mediocre at best. Nothing about them make it look like a "must play" but 80$ is "must play" pricing. Like unless this goes cyberpunk open world mmo, there's nothing I'd pay 80% for from the current track record of devs/studios

If you're a real fan of borderlands

Bold strategy, cotton. Let's see if it pays off.

That’s because it’s not even happening, it’s $20 for the upgrade.

i'd pay $80 for a high quality, finished game with tons of content
i will not pay $80 for a shitty unfinished game that's going to get 2-3 DLCs for $40 each
i will continue to keep buying $15-$30 indie games that offer me hundreds of hours of content

Nintendo games were $90, you had to pay an extra 30 for the season pass if you wanted the full game.

I've spent $400 dollars on PoE2 and that games free. What are you guys whining about?

Games should be $120 and if you disagree you are a third world poorfag.

Randy trying to "No True Scotsman" an entire loyal fanbase into giving him more money

My tinfoil hat theory is that the plan was always to charge $70 and that he's doing this to make it look like he's a hero when the game launches, but I'm probably giving him too much credit.

Games already cost $80 here in Canada and I already don't buy them, in fact new games are so shitty and gay I don't even pirate them. I don't see what the problem is.

Game doesn't even look like it's worth 40$. If they don't launch a new movie (nothing has even been anounced) this game will fail. There's no real audience actually excited for it. Plus it sounds like they just added anti cheat or something to the old games (new tos that says mods are bannable offense) so almost guaranteed they're going to out anti cheat in this. If a non pvp game has anti cheat, it's a no buy for me.

Game doesn't even look like it's worth 40$.

Well yeah, but that applies to pretty much all major releases these days.

Yes Randy i will buy your game

Can you recommend some of those hundreds of hours of content indie games?

"A) Not my call. B) If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen. My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen."

I think he just wanted an excuse to humblebrag that he got to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the country and make it sound like he was somehow struggling.

Thank god I never touched Borderlands then.

OP, explain.
Who exactly do you think take-two interaactive is?

I got Borderlands 2 and all the DLC for like 11 bucks. I didnt even play any of the DLC besides the one with the gun that shoots swords.
What a shit franchise.
First game was fun though Siren was the best class.

That is a very Randy-ish thing to do. I don't think he would've specifically namedropped Starflight otherwise.
Like, that version of the game was great, but I sincerly doubt very many people saw it as a "must bust my ass to get this because I can't afford it at the moment" title.

I thought the company was named Borderlands

Fair enough.
