Well, you get 19 slots including Ike and Elincia on Clash, and every single one I brought was able to contribute in some meaningful way, even a highly neglected, early promoted Rhys, who managed to get himself a single kill with the Purge I picked up last map. Honestly, exp is very plentiful in FE9 and there's absolutely no reason not to keep a diverse team running. Pic related is all the units I used in some capacity during the run but didn't bring to endgame (which is 16 slots including Ike+dragon).

Its suprising how many strats they are to deal with clashs enemy.
In every other game it would be:
Shit your juggernaut to a terrain tile with handaxes and javelins.
But clash wants you to do more then just that.
It requires you to put the right skills to forge the right weapons to ave your healers ready maybe some siege tomes assist with wrath and training/supporting the right units.
Its deeper then people think it is.

GBAFE teaches you all kinds of bad habits and attracts giga casuals, and casuals are bad at games. I can't say I never lost a unit in the original relay runs, so the games aren't without moments of difficulty, but the scrimblo autism was always particularly egregious in FE7 in particular.

Prepromotes are broken, meanwhile growth units are incredibly DOGSHIT with somewhat demanding stat benchmarks to reach - relative to how quickly you can fix their stats, anyway.
In most FE games, you have reliable non-grind tools to fix stats - BEXP, tonics, skills, forging, pair up, whatever. In GBAFE you really have to just suck it up and grind your shift bowfu if you want her to do anything. It encourages a particular kind of pro-scrimblo mentality, bolstered by the presence of arenas. The games seem to be subliminally teaching you to take every unit through a Rocky Balboa training montage, rather than just to play the maps and naturally training your units as you go along.
It doesn't help that these were many western players' first FE, when they were dumb kids. I think as a result of all these factors and the way the games are balanced, GBA players never learn to do FE math, too, which aggravates the problem. Why do the math when you have a Seth?

FE 7 and 8 teach bad habits, they hand you free units that are way above enemy quality and effectively invalidate the concept of training outside of extreme grind fests using designated grinding spots only aided by the long turn counts needed for supports.
The GBA games being the only real time that classes having specific promotion items mattered caused it to instill a use one of every class mindset onto the players instead of just using good units.
The biggest sin is that they've drilled an anti-skill mindset into a large part of the community where see the skill free raw stat barren system of the GBA instead of the tactically richer skill systems of nearly every other FE game.
