ITT: games that have an eerie, lonely, liminal vibe to them

I've been thinking about games that give off that sort of eerie liminal lonely vibe, as if you're being watched, and wanted to know if people here had any recommendations or stories about games that felt eerie, or made you feel uneasy.

Obviously, you have stuff like the Mario 64 "every copy is personalized" shit that ran rampant on the internet like 4 years ago, LSD Dream Emulator which is specifically designed to be creepy and unnerving, and Ocarina of Time 1.0 with its chants, blood, and more macabre elements that were cut in the 1.1 revision, but I wanna hear about your experiences and recommendations of more niche titles and not the usual suspects.

I'll start with my experience with a "game" that I hardly hear anyone talk about that never fails to make me feel uneasy

Go back to tiktok, zoomer.

So to start, I should begin by saying I LOVE the Dreamcast. It's genuinely one of my favorite consoles in just about every way. The games, it's design, the aesthetic, and the experimental stuff it tried, this pertaining to the latter.

I really doubt any of you ever got the chance to use the Dreamcast Web Browser, but jesus. It was always so... weird to use? It was really cool browsing the web on my Dreamcast, but. It always felt... off?
Theres no music that plays or anything besides the sorta Y2K sound design a lot of titles had around this time for sound effects. Any time I get on to browse Dreampipe, its always so lonely. So eerie. Just complete silence of nothing other than the occasional sound effect, and the whirring of the infamous Dreamcast disc drive when I click a link or type in a URL.

You can still use it if you have a DreamPi, or an emulator. Most SEGA sites are still up, albeit fan run nowadays, but its certain an experience browsing the web on a Dreamcast in the dead of night all alone as compared to your typical phone or computer, at least for me.

i doubt you've ever touched an atari you filthy millennial

Had an Atari ST growing up, actually.

Castle full of Toads in every other room

Worlds full of life and enemies living

zoomers: HOLY FUCK IT'S SO LIMINAL AND EMPTY AND LONELY I'M GOING INSAAAAAANEEEEE

i had a plug-n-play atari thing as a kid does that count

are you retarded or did you just not read the post? Everyone talks about that shit, that's not what I'm looking for dipshit

Oh my slendermans browsing the web is so lonely and creepy!

This is literally just what browsing the web is like without social media.

yeah it counts only if you talk about if any of the games made you feel uneasy or weird

"Today I'd like to show you some unremarkable and odd places in Mario 64"

Camera zooms in on a wall

"Just look at how blurry and unremarkable the texture is... somebody MADE that. A person with a life of their own. A person with a family. Who are they? Does anyone know?"

"I'm Any Austin, thanks for watching"

Music created in GarageBand for iOS™ made from random mumbling starts playing

You shouldn't have started your shitty thread with an unrelated image then retard.

except computers at the time didnt have weird Y2K sound effects that play, just the soft whirr of your hard drive. it is in fact very different than when i would browse the web on my actual computer at the time

not my fault you lack reading comprehension babe, its called a jumping off point dipshit

Yume Nikki
Lsd dream emulator
Worlds.com

do you have any particular stories associated with these? I want to hear peoples experiences and stories lol

I used to stalk the cultist horse guy in Worlds.com with Anon Babble back in ~2013 before the board became a shizo larp fest

I have a save in LSD that I've had for maybe 5 years trying to get 365 days for the "ending". I think I'm halfway at around 180. The docks map is spooky because you can find a lady who hung herself and there are random dead bloody bodies scattered throughout.

Yume Nikki is one of my favorite games of all time. I revisit the game every few years and constantly find some obscure secret I've never seen before.

River raid was one of the first games I ever played you cocksucker

Pretty much all N64 games. It's why they are so popular with zoomers to this day.

does anyone actually have any cool stories of shit they experienced in games they played as kids or is this entire thread just going to be people insecure about their old age

"Liminal space"

Interesting...

Why do they love holding microphones so much?

To look less like ``professional`` youtubers and more like a guerilla ``gonzo`` style to their impressionable NPC audience.

wowee he HOLDS his microphone lazily in his hand!!! he's a rebel breaking all the rules!!11 no microphone stand or high budget production on this channel!!! screw da main stream media

i debated even using the fucking term liminal space in this thread and i regret using it because now its just overrun by chuds who think they're being funny. i legit just want to talk about weird shit in games we liked. shit like berzerk, indev minecraft, kings field, fucking anything

you guys suck

I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO DO WITH MY TIME
SO I DID IT

zoom zoom go back to tiktok

Crazy fellow. I think he was friends with frida kahlo.

nah m8. mario64's bloody brilliant wif all dem low poly structres.
fookin luv it.

I just assumed its so they don't have to think about what to do with their hands while they talk

don't sweat it OP, spergs just get frustrated when your thread doesn't fit in their typical gaymer paradigm. You're asking about something very niche and even subjective.
There's a game called NaissanceE that gave me these vibes

I use to go to Lon Lon Ranch as the sun was setting just before it became night, listening to Malon sing as I walked around. I would pretend I was just some farm hand working on the farm while the real hero was out saving Hyrule. I'd just walk around the big farm imagining a whole life. I'd usually just chill in that back room on the back of the farm that just had some hay in it and pretend it was where I lived until I could marry Malon

kys

I think this old age shit reminds of the great Gatsby.

I love new stuff. People just abuse nostalgia a lot these days.

A ton of VR games do this.

AIslop game

image IS related, wet dry world is the weirdest world there is in mario period, from the completely nonsensical layout to the city in the background to the abandoned town underwater that has that creepy music. wish they'd make more stuff like this honestly i fucking love wet dry world

Fpbp
Total zoomer death

I love this dude.

is this... le empty space... in an old video game?

AHHHHH IM GOING INSAAANEEEE I NEED MY TIKTOK AND FORTNITE NOOOOOOW!!!

Why are zoomers so scared of empty spaces? Has their ADHD really gotten this severe?

NO PLAYERS ONLINE v2.0

I sometimes pop around on empty TF2 servers and scroll through all their novelty maps. You've got all these cool, hand-crafted maps of video game areas (Booster's Tower, Rogueport, Saturn Valley, various pokemon maps, etc), but there's nobody dicking around on them anymore. They're like playgrounds where the only people having fun are in distant memories.

use retard words

be treated as a retard

What did you honestly think this thread was gonna turn into?

I feel like the dudes posting this shit about m64 haven't even played it.
It's not 'eerie,' it's dreamlike. It's not "lonely," Mario accompanies me with a smile. It's not "liminal," that's a meaningless buzzword.

Your screen is only "eerie and liminal" because of the retarded videos you watch dumbass
