"Parry shots" are so weird in games from a lore perspective. Like what causes the parry shots? Why aren't they all parriable? Do the enemies know what causes the parry shots? If so, why don't they stop it from happening?

Played the first 5 chapters. Game seems alright.
Only thing that seemed really dumb was the tyrant fight since the best strat seems to be just to stand still next to it and blast it with the skull crusher and parry. It dies in seconds. Fighting them in Eternal was way more frantic.
The stand and fight (tm) is also somewhat dumb since in bigger fights you're constantly worried that some small mob will walk up to you and backstab or shoot you from far away. If you're not full health you can easily die to that.
Fighting in general has been satisfying and not too easy on nightmare 120% gamespeed.

They're called cyberdemons again, and yeah the game literally even gives you a load screen tip that says get up close with the cyberdemon to bait(they even use the word bait) parryable melee attacks. It's a questionable decision to make the cyberdemon a melee fighter, but you're really expected to run up to them one you can otherwise they rape your shield with their rapid fire and can summon spikes when you hide. They made the other powerful demons more varied because it's a mix of ranged and melee, but with the cyberdemon you're pretty much forced to fight it close range.

I enjoyed the dark ages gameplay I thought it was fun and I kind of want to go back to play even after beating it. My biggest complaint are the filler missions and not enough time is spent in hell. I hope the expansion dlc focuses on that. It also felt like they had 20 different people making maps, some were tight with cool secrets to get to while other had the same issue that some doom 2 maps had being too sprawling.

I liked how in 2016 you could jump on them when they’re in a daze and stomp them out, now it’s like the most generic and boring same hit every time. Im surprised at how poor its doing. I think its worse than Eternal but its better than 2016. 2016 was too basic, but TDA just lacks the raw adrenaline of eternal. Ammo is plentiful, parries are reliable. Weapons are fun and all but the game is definitely more basic. Mech and Dragon segments are also kind of there. Theyre not bad but they feel like filler and nobody wanted any of that in a Doom game.
What really sucks is the story. 2016 was deliberately saying fuck you to the story. This has cutscenes full of boring characters including an ugly girlboss bitch. Music is just there this time around. No stand out tracks. Really poor.
Overall I think its a good game. Gameplay is fun but its more basic than eternals.

It kinda just moves you towards the target and then moves you back to where you were when you pressed it.

It felt a little weird at first, but with how many enemies the game throws at you it ends up working out.
so you'd have players wait around to hit an enemy they are at melee range with? again, nobody would use melee if you can't reliably stagger something leading you to getting hit which means there is 0 reason to go into melee range because you are relying on getting a melee hit off.
defeats the purpose of having the melee as an option. otherwise it can't compete with ranged options.

It has an issue where it takes a while for the combat cycle to click, and that's because you need like 5 guns at a minimum for it to work. The first few stages are kinda lame but the later stages improve significantly once you have a bigger arsenal.
But other than that it's hit or miss.
The people who like it, LOVE it.

Eternal is much better in my view. I have many overlapping pet peeves with both games, but eternal earns my respect through relentless aggression.
The balance is kinda ass between mods, but nothing as bad as 16's remote det and siege railgun.
The ramp up to a decent arsenal is quicker, and the bestiary is much bigger and deeper.
It's still mostly arena combat, although Arc Complex stands out as a memorable pacy spectacle.
If all else irks you, the meathook is a saving grace, it's just endlessly fun to use.

I guess my ultimate point is that you only get out of a discussion what you're willing to put into it, and that is the board's real problem at the very root. You'll actually see most boards complaining about this in one way or another, struggling to articulate precisely what's wrong. There aren't many effort posters left, if any at all.

Depends on who you ask. I liked it, it’s more fast paced than 2016 and there is a lot of vertical movement in the arenas. Unlike 2016, you have to use all of your arsenal for different things depending on the enemies you are fighting. Overall the game expects more from you, enemies are faster and hyper aggressive towards you, ammo is scarce, and you have to move around different levels to evade and keep attacking the hordes of demons hunting you. It’s fun if you can manage the fast paced combat, maps are more linear in some cases and still are designed as arenas connected by corridors, but there is more verticality to the maps compared to 2016, with platforming in some areas. Story is shit but games fun overall.
Yes, and I firmly believe the root of this comes from the fact that by default a huge chunk of this website is full of trolls and shitposters, but also mentally unstable immature people incapable of holding actual conversation.
It makes it incredibly hard to have meaningful threads when you have participants who show zero interest in actually discussing the flaws of the game, since it's clear they do not have any investment in the discussion and are just here to shitpost.
Like, for the sake of it: I find that one of the game's bigger flaws is that there's far too many pseudo-open world segments that lessen and lengthen the game experience.
If you're going for basic completion (which frankly you should be, a solid chunk of the game is in optional content) then you end up spending a lot of time just slowly walking between areas "looking" for secrets.
But it defeats itself in that you open up the game map and it tells you exactly where all secret stuff is - so all you're left doing is opening up the map, seeing "oh I haven't been THERE yet" and then slowly walking over to the other side of the map.
But we don't get people discussing that. We only get people parroting bullshit that's become common talking points from people who clearly do not play the game.
