Multiplat is a time when it was the best performing console. Nobody bothered to port or optimise for PC. Gamecube and Xbox weren't as powerful and didn't have Sony exclusives on top of that. The only choice was PS2 if you didn't like RTS games or MMO's.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only multiplat games I can think of where the Gamecube/Xbox versions were objectively superior to the PS2 version were Sega's titles, particularly the Sonic games.

That's not true at all. If you use a modern shader to emulate composite video, but remove the artifacts that the Genesis's composite had, the tricks remain intact. In other words, a cleaner composite signal still blends the stuff together.

Sega made the mistake of porting Ecco and Res to it instead of the Xbox. Because of them and Ico I got a PS2 instead of another Xbox. The Xbox was by far the better console. With acrually impressive graphics. Maybe the first time I was in awe ofnhow good it looked. A few examples prior did the same, like Donkey Kong Country. Beautiful, but not stare in amazement like the Xbox, looking around slow taking in it's acheivement.

I'm going to be completely honest with you TXRD2 is a pain in the ass to setup for drifting and if I just wanted to SP races I'd play Zero and 3 (which I did and 100% 3)

the capcom 5 games had the gamecube as their lead platform and hence were difficult to port to ps2
it wasnt because the hardware was better or worse, it was simply different and the hacks and techniques used to make those games shine on the gamecube couldnt simply be carried over to the different architecture of the ps2, hence why the ps2 games often looked compromised (RE4 being the most notable)
still, the ps2 hardware was strong enough to run burnout 3 flawlessly while development of burnout 3 for gamecube was canned because criterion just couldnt make it run on the gamecube, again, not because it was weak, but because by then the ps2 was lead platform for burnout and they could easily port it up to the much stronger xbox, but not sideways to the differnet gamecube

another comparison is the splinter cell series, which had the xbox as the lead platform, and wer then reconfigured (butchered) to run on the ps2 and gamecube

"inferior" as in slightly worse than Xbox's image quality at a time when 90% of people were playing on cheap CRTs. Also, everyone knew that a PS2 version of any hot new game was guaranteed, so that's another plus spun as a negative.

Debatable. The PS2 could put out more polygons, and that strength was (once again) far more suited to the type of TV most people had. Dreamcast's textures were cleaner but the difference wasn't big enough for most people to notice or care about.
