There's not much room for new Lives unless you want to get REALLY specific, outside of stuff like the aforementioned beastmaster and mechanic. I think the best way to expand it would be to introduce Service Lives where the idea is to provide a service to other characters. The original had cut Lives that could fall into that category, like Merchant, Mailman, and Fortune Teller.

Considering that the Gathering/Crafting Life Buddies can attack with their tools, I feel like for Fantasy Life I, not having the option for the player to stay on their Gathering/Crafting Life in combat is a missed opportunity. It's been ages since I played the one on the 3DS, but I feel like that one didn't have the Combat Life auto-switch thing (though non-combat Lifes in previous versions were much weaker and literally made out of paper compared to the ones here)

it only takes like 2 uses to find a weakspot if you use it properly so it's faster and more efficient than walking and hitting

your strongest attack you have access to is your most efficient option but you will want to use charged lights to get a gathering buff when you unlock the skill for it then spam charged heavies

it's based on total damage dealt overkill yeah, you can overkill from 100% if you smack something hard enough

As soon as you want to. Preferably though when you're allowed to return to the Past so that you can meet the Masters again for class progression. Otherwise you could be like me who who had already hit Adept on most classes that is possible to do so by that time, cleared most of the Shiny Poops and grinded enough to bring all areas in Ginormosia to Area Rank 3 (with a few places at Area Rank 4) before I even set foot on Faraway Island.

The earliest you are free to explore ?Ginormosia at will is from the moment you progress enough that you get the 'Go to Skelegon' main story quest, before you can even activate the other towers and thus have to explore in total map darkness

Ginormosia keeps throwing tailor and carpenter buddies at me but is being very fucking stingy about blacksmith and alchemy buddies.

I like colins aoe lighting with paralysis, he just stuns bosses for like 4-5 seconds every 10-15 seconds, which is crazy
laura has really good aoe damage but I think there might be better paladins than her, haven't tried too many of them

Laura's special does a lot of damage but is 'slow' because she does the jump into the air and flourishes her sword before the aoe hits. By then most of the time whatever she's using it on is dead or not in her hit zone anymore.

If you want a Combat Buddy with good aoe, consider the Mercenary Idol of Ice, Snow

Laura is nice because she seems to get the bosses aggro and tank, shes pretty good for just sitting there and never dying vs bosses.
Which is why I would rather another paladin than her since I already have a lot of aoe

I kept thinking I could find great gold deposit outside of the cave of trials before I unlocked the cave of trials but I think I just randomly came across it in the tree dungeon. Wasted so many hours trying.
Still though, master in mining.

Could consider getting Hilda instead then. She's a Paladin and so will actively run up to facetank stuff, but she also uses an aoe heal that 'hits' multiple times while the heal circle is up. This means she can also heal your other buddies though your other buddies won't run into her circle by themselves; instead if someone goes to like 60% HP or so Hilda will run to them and use the aoe heal (including you)

Here's the ideal way to find sweet spots for you brainlets who can't into logical reasoning

Start at gathering point.
Tap with axe/pickaxe
If sweet spot, cool, otherwise:
Rotate 90 degrees ish in one direction
Press Square to use sweet spot skill
If sweet spot, cool, otherwise:
If (?), then that means the sweet spot is another 90 degrees in the same direction you rotated.
If (...), then that means the sweet spot is 180 degrees (directly across) from you.

basically, in one axe tap and one use of the sweetspot skill max, you'll always figure out where it is. Might take more for the super huge boss ones, but it should still help in principle much more than trying to identify the spot through brute force. Makes gathering much faster, helps especially in timed shrine challenges.

btw if you have double digit hours of gameplay and didn't intuitively figure this out, you might be sub-100 IQ.

laura seems to fit this best so far as she kind of just sits there, goes invuln for ages while she casts her spell, and wont die to smaller mobs swarming her due to the aoe.
surely there is a better paladin but out of the 3 I have tried laura has been the best by far

It's not like SP is so important that you need to conserve it by tapping it with your axe/pickaxe/rod instead. If you have Gathering Buddies, they also won't start hitting the tree/ore until you deal damage to it either, so you can take your time to position yourself properly. It also means 1 less hit before boss trees/ores/fish do the Sweet Spot changing thing.

It's practically a "forever game" that you can burn dozens of hours into, with you being able to play both in singleplayer and multiplayer.

Laura being in invul is purely because of how special attacks work - you also are invul while using a special attack. The same actually applies if you're using a charged attack as well actually, so you can abuse this with say Mercenary's Heavy Swing to make sure enemies are right in your face before you spin to win, or as a Magician lining up your enemies before letting off a charged attack in their face.

if you open with it, and it is the sweet spot, you could've just known instead by axe-tapping directly. with your method it's two button presses even in the best case scenario.
and if it goes (?) instead then that means your sweet spot is either left OR right, and you will have to rotate one of the two ways and check again.
nothing wrong with starting with the sweet spot skill, better than bruteforcing, but it's still theoretically suboptimal

That shield's actually busted with how it synergizes. Paralyze turns Laura into an immovable object—combine that with her AoE aura and mobs just melt around her while she tanks the boss. It’s honestly kinda gross when you throw regen enchants on top. I’ve seen some people swap in the reflective plate too for extra cheese, but it’s situational.

crafting quality is based on how fast you kill the minigame, it's independent from item quality like Fine or Notable. if you finish it with "4 left" or 5 in the top right you'll get Good or Great.
it's actually easier to get Good on lower tier, non-Fine etc. items because their crafting requirement is lower so you fill up the meter faster if your stat is high

You can get Salt at the capital's restaurant shop in the materials tab, iirc.
They also sell Flan, which is a bit expensive but the only way you're getting +Gathering food early.

the few you get from chests is enough so you can make the beastly chest piece, notice master blacksmith doesn't require a full set of beastly but just 5 pieces of gear made from monster hide, its for that reason so if you don't find the thick shell in a chest you aren't locked having to do treasure groves just to get to master.
but you do need to do more for end game gear
