I've heard for years about how superior SMT is and that Persona is just a watered down version for normies. After giving SMTVV a try I can see that the combat is definitely better, difficulty too. But doesn't it get kinda boring? This combat system is not enough to carry a 60-80 hour game.

I'm currently at the end of the third Da'at in CoC, Hard difficulty. I had more fun in the first Da'at than any Persona palace, the second one was alright, but the third is a bit of a slog. It's just the same shit again and again, I just have stronger demons fighting stronger enemies, the moves are all just stronger and strongerer versions of the same exact move. The combat in Persona is even more simplistic, but it also has the entire other half of the game to break the combat bits, and they complement each other really well.

Isn't Persona just a straight up evolution of SMT? Like, make P6 with this combat system, make the story darker and more mature (which P3 and P5 already kinda lean into), and you just have an objectively better game.

That's just your taste though. For me exploring increasingly more complex environments and fighting increasingly more difficult demons while always working on my entire party IS the appeal not just of SMT but of RPGs in general. The lonely esoteric wandering and cool demon facts speaks to me more than any Persona hang out sequence or mystery solving.

I'm in the camp that considers SMT superior but I can acknowledge they're both great series for their particular audience.

V is not smt doe, persona is shit. you are also a zooomer with dogshit taste, maybe e33 is more to your speed

want to try SMT

play V

Lol fucking retard

Isn't Persona just a straight up evolution of SMT?

Give me strength

The combat carried it for me. I played that shit straight until I got all the endings.

V is the most SMT SMT game, pretentious troglodyte.

V is the most SMT SMT game, pretentious troglodyte.

Yeah man, it's the best one so you kinda fucked yourself going back to the older ones which are going to disappoint you with the gameplay.

The combat in Persona is even more simplistic, but it also has the entire other half of the game to break the combat bits, and they complement each other really well.

I don't agree with this. I don't enjoy any of that other stuff. I don't enjoy Persona because I'm simply not interested in spending hundreds of hours in a high school simulator.

If it's up your alley I can highly recommend some of the previous games in the series. Coming from the other games I felt like VV did a lot of stuff I wasn't huge on. Up to you though. Nocturne and Strange Journey are some of my absolute favorites.

You didn't like V? You should play the older games with even less mechanics and polish!!

Nu-atlus forgot how to do dungeon crawling, go play nocturne and thank me later

Stop sucking corpo dick for one second and use casualized instead of polish and qol.

Yes, because nicer skill animations is casualization

This, but smtv still has Nintendo shills since it was switch exclusive for too long

The people who overhype smt and shit on persona are usually manchildren desperately seeking validation. They think you can ONLY play smt or ONLY play persona and you cannot enjoy both. And those people usually started with smt4 lol.
Persona and SMT are both good, they focus on different things. It's entirely preference. Imo smt3 and persona 3 are my favorite atlus games and they're tied.

V but with way more pointless filler battles with mobs, less midboss/bosses and more clunky movement

It does have puzzleboy, for when you get tired of punching demons at least

I already know you're retarded, Vtroons, no need for this effort to display it

But doesn't it get kinda boring?

No. Exploring the world is fun, as is recruiting and fusing demons to make different teams. There's a satisfying loop of

explore new area

fight and recruit new demons

hit a wall in the form of some kind of boss

tinker with your team composition until you win

repeat

You're rarely bogged down in story filler like you are in Persona, you just get to play the game. I never found V boring, but I couldn't get through Persona 3 or 5.

meant for

I just fucking love sand. I hate variety I just wanna splash around in sand and see ruined buildings for 80 hours.

I liked smtv but satan filtered me. I shat on shiva pretty easily. apparently I need a ton of stats which god knows how long would that take

wtf there's too much gameplay in this video game where's the VN???

nocturne's dungeons are terrible.
t. 250 hours in hd alone

Chiyoda is my favourite of the areas in CoC because it felt the closest to having a more traditional exploration gimmick like you'd find in dungeon crawlers. Trying to stick to the high ground to avoid getting lost and ambushed is pretty engaging, and it's also nice that there are secrets in the fog if you're willing to look for them.

No they didn't. Play EO if you want dungeon crawling

Your first and/or favorite SMT was IV, wasn't it?

watch a movie

difficulty too

it's just badly balanced in both directions
The game peaks in the first 10 hours and then starts circling the dream and stays in the gutter until you slap the superbosses asses. VV adds better super bosses and challenging optional fights against all bosses but godborn is actual trash and the only mechanically interesting fight in the entire game is memefiend.
Whoever the fightplanners were for PS2 era Atlus clearly don't work there anymore.

I thought SMT was garbage honestly, the story and every other thing is shit and the combat was mediocre at best.
Just a trash game, really.
Garbage game, garbage studio.

I party wiped more in V than I ever did in 4 or 3. The animations in V are charming af. I don't understand the snootiness

Vtroon unsublty tries to detect its boogeyman

Lmao

You don't need stats at all. Satan is designed to be beaten to unlock Godborn, the mode where you grind stats forever. He's just hard as balls and requires a party designed purely for the fight and understand the order of his mechanics.

For instance, I beat him by machine gunning him with Parslene Blur with Succession and charge combo while he was weak to light, which skipped his second phase but even that required perfect timing with buffs/debuffs and depleting half his health by the critical turn. Shiva isn't actually a super boss, he's designed to be a story boss since you need to fight him to fight true final boss.

Social shit is boring and tedious. After being able to play SMT3,4 and 5 handheld i have no desire to sit down eating burgers and pretending i give 2 shits about yukari in p3r to get to the next section of the tower. This comes from someone who considers p3 the peak of jrpgs. But sitting down to play p3r was a slug. Grinding social skills is fucking garbage. Eat the burger. Eat the noodles. Give the right response to get access to the best fusion of the arcana or get to a halt and pray at the shrine. Blah blah.

The Labrynth of Amala provides the only good dungeon crawling experience until you reach the Tokyo Diet Building. The dungeons before that point in the main game are nothing to write home about.

toddler tries to psychoanalyze text

Shinjuku>Taito>Shinagawa>Chiyoda>Minato

IMO. I like the idea of the gimmick for Chiyoda but the fog on the lower levels needs to be way stronger. I do like the god damn anzu chasing you off the edge all the time while screeching at you, very threatening and obnoxious but in a good way.

I looked it up and guides have their demons with 100+ stats. kinda killed my motivation. I'll get to it someday

I like the Pyramid and Isamu's second prison too. Actually, all the Isamu dungeons in retrospect, since while the Mantra building isn't really a dungeon it is a pretty memorable moment.

We know tendie

You think this strengthens your argument, but it doesn't. They added significantly more shortcuts in the later games and the dungeon dives are much less length as a result. Which this criticism of V is mostly aimed towards resource management not being a relevant thing, and adding a lot of shortcuts does a similar thing to EO, dungeon design notwithstanding.

NOOOOO YOU CAN'T PLAY V THE ONLY GOOD SMT GAME IS NOCTURNE ALL NOCTURNE I ONLY PLAY NOCTURNE IS THE ONLY SMT GAME WAAAAHHHHHH

The Mantra building starts out strong with the Arena fights, but I find climbing it to be a bit of a slog. The Temple of Amala is also pretty good, you're right, I forgot about that one.

grasping for straws

NOOOO OLD SMT GAMES SUCK NOCTURNE IS BAD BECAUSE IT WAS FOR PS2 PLEASE LIKE MY FUJO GAME INSTEAD AAAAAH

no argument

Yet I only see the same Vtranny insulting the other games

he never said EO V, you just went on a borderline AI ramble about V

I was talking about SMTV.

Play Expedition 33 instead

It was a Nocturnefag that came in and called V shit first and how much better Nocturne is ITT

I don't care for grinding social links. High school simulator is for trannies and japanese niggas that haven't learnt to move on because of their salarymen jobs. How the fuck P5 and P3 mature stories? Specially P5 base. P3 is unironically carried by the fucking Sun Arcana. P4 is probably the best story until the last second when they asspull an eyeball for you to fight.

P3R is specially shit for adding more walls of text for characters. At least they are mostly optional and you get crappy jpg i could had found on Google in 10 seconds. Thanks Fatlus. Also what was that faggotry of turning Soul Hackers into literal retarded Persona with SH2 see it fail then pretend it doesn't exist ? The fact that sh2 got a fanbase for like half a year because MUH CHARACTERS ARE OLDER FINALLY was embarrassing.

It's like that totkfag schizo calling old zeldafags ootsnoys just because totk is the current new game he must shill

Much better game than SMT

E33 doesn't have funny demons, though, so actually it's worse.

First 4 games are a lot better. They should really remaster 4 at least

Who cares? it has good level design, good gameplay, good rpg elements and good story.

SMT has nothing but mediocre combat and its gameplay outside of combat is shit

Reddit meme

P3 is peak during January where you see the town being basically dead while all you can do is wait for Nyx arrival, it's the most mature one at least for me.

P4 actual final boss is Izanami and it was great how hidden it was to get to her, I agree that the eyeball was corny though.

No comment on P5, it's really just the "hype moments and aura" meme in a game.

both of them are pretty bad RPGs to be honest

P5 has the best social links that actually play into the dungeon crawling and the idea that you are forming a larger organization. I also love how your social links all work together in the real world to save you from jail in the ending.

I didn't get too deep into E33 because of the level design, funnily. Felt like I was playing FFXIII in terms of how linear and uninteresting it was, at least early on.
I wouldn't know what Reddit likes.

Nocturne used to be mocked just because it used to be a PS2 game. Fact is you would defend and spam le waifu and le meme if it was Nintendo exclusive, just like how you shilled the average octopath traveler to death

In before Snoy

Emulated

try playing a good mainline game instead of this fucking trainwreck

BG3 and E33 > SMT

Another trannylation

SMT VV>BG3>E33

Imo

this honestly they are both good series with different focuses. i prefer smt more for its darker atmosphere and strategic combat but i dont dislike persona.

Play 1,2, 3 and 4 (the original one) and SJ better, they mog this one hard

Imo

Sure!
I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.

This game has such a shitty atmosphere

Kino atmosphere you mean

Try strange Journey
It actually has a story and characters
