You could probably make a good movie out of the all the events leading up to the shattering but a movie of the game's events itself would just be shit.
I think -Souls movies would work best if they cover stuff that happens before the games, like Vendrick's campaign against the giants and subsequent fall. In this case a movie depicting The Shattering could be cool, but I feel like there are better moments from other games to make a movie on. I feel like we know a lot about The Shattering compared to other establishing events, and I'm not sure if the narrative of a -Souls game could translate well into a film.

I'm not sure how much of Elden Ring's world is built by GRRM, who I do know is quite the history buff, so the references to all the big empires throughout human history may or may not be him. Regardless, as a storyteller I feel like Miyazaki is just hitting his stride, circumstances around gameplay notwithstanding.

It's the Dark Souls formula where there isn't much story just remnants of epic civilizations that lived and died before the player got there and breadcrumbs of what went down. It's a very surreal and dreamlike dark fantasy world with danger around every corner. Everybody acts weird and and speaks in archaic english and wants to kill you. It was made by an autistic japanese man who tried to read fantasy books as a kid but couldn't understand half the words so he just filled in the blanks with his imagination, so just picture that experience but as a game.
