Action combat MMO

does this show promise?

mmo

no

it looks like dumbed down TERA

rollslop but online

GENIUS

tera was good thoughbeit

to me TERA felt like a dumbed down Lineage 2. the action combat was a great addition and weapon swap cringe hadn't been invented yet, but it only had a couple of classes and 2 sets of skills just barely

action combat PvP

This doesn't even work in non-MMOs.

Only if they auto-kick every player with worse than 10ms ping.

Is it going to have the first m or be instanced dungeons?

korean

no

mmo

no

Is it f2p or b2p?

mashing attack on giant health bars

sounds miserable

AZNs have yet to make a good MMO so nothing

This is a paid shill campaign. Nobody who actually likes videos in any capacity has the stomach for Modern kMMO slop in 2025.
You could put this side-by-side to footage from any kMMO from the last 10 years and it'd be impossible to tell them apart.

Kakao

and for that reason I'm out

wait its just third person dark and darker

Gw2 already does action combat mmo in the best possible way you can FOR an mmo. Honesty has a top 3 pvp system for mmos too but the other 2 are p2w so..

i have they always make games with really great visuals but they dont want to make a game i'd actually want to play because this doesnt even scratch the itch gameplay-wise.

which ones?

Elsword at number 1 and Blade and Soul at 3

Man I remember elsword pvp being fun back then, used to learn spring stepping and x drop and diverses combos with elboy
But then it became p2w faggotry with people one shotting with one skill with their +10 gears

The action combat mmo dream could come true now that even rural faggots are on fiber, yes.
Shame it's only rollslop though.

no because you are going to create a character, load up some cinematic intro, get plopped into a town, the. have to collect 10 feathers and kill 10 boars and you will do this for 200 hours before the combat gets deep or difficult

black desert proved that you can have a genuinely fantastic action combat system in your mmo but the very nature of mmos means you will be doing checklist garbage, walking miles and miles, pvp could be interesting but its dead/only active one day a week at a specific hour of the day

fuck off just take the foxhole/planetside model but give it good melee combat. thats all you need to do

Yea I peaked 36 on the leaderboards in the first season but had to quit because I wasn't willing to pay for more than a +10. Sold all my IB sets for around 1500$ and dropped the game forever. Really a shame because it puts every other platform fighter I've ever touched to shame the Devs struck gold but wasted it.

is elsword better than dfo?

They recycle assets all the time. Maybe 10% of the game will be original content. These KMMOs release and shutdown to exploit whales.
There hasn't been a mayor MMO release for quite some time and the whales are ready to migrate.

I thought so yes the combo game and combat felt way more fluid and worked better on the 2.5d maps. DFOs popularity may prove otherwise though it's easily one of the most successful MMOs ever

BDO

genuinely fantastic action combat system

It was flashy but mechanically shit.

an mmo in 2025? oh yeah, lots of promise there.

There was +10 in the first season? I remember reaching S+ with just the pvp armor gear and a velder boss +7 lv 42 weapon you drop from a boss with LK
Dayum 1K5 dollars? What IBs did you sell?

really? it had feints, grabs, dodges, genuinely cool mechanics like Sage's pocketing. it was basically a lite fighting game. what didnt you like about it

I really feel like action games need to start doing something more than just having a dodge roll and a parry.

Yea it was technically season 0? I guess it was convoluted and it's been like 10y. I had full IB sets of various early IBs like Archangel/devil Nasod search party, holy unicorn royal maid And SS I mained Ara o leaderboard but I also could regularly beat S players on my level 47 Elesis i kept at second job instead of turning into the Edgy knight one

NTA but you can get that in For Honor without the corny mmo attached to it

What if MMO, but current day fotm extraction slop?

It's going to be shit.

action combat PvP

This doesn't even work in non-MMOs.

nah, naraka is great. it has big problems but not gameplay wise.

roll slop with horrible unintelligible seizure inducing animations

0 visual clarity wtf is going on

Ooops - Rapeface the Asshole Obliterator™ - sneezed and our entire raid party died again :(

Yeah.... that's a recipe for success...
Do devs even play their own games

Yeah back then there was no Ara, there was only up to Eve iirc, and I played until chung got here
Now that I think about it I could have sold my IB as well, how did you find a player to sell the stuff to?

Yea the problems is the whole game is bots every lobby bots you never get to fight real people

.t sank 15h playing and never lost a battle royal

I think it will probably be a decent 7.5/10 game for a few months. I'm intrigued about how it's simultaneously an MMO, but also has a heavy focus on single player and 5-man party content. I hope it's like a Warframe-style MMO.

mmo

4 players

Hey, they have a stagger bar as well. it's very advanced and modern.

Did you play NA or KR? I'm fairly sure NA had Ara for season 1 pvp because that leaderboard lasted a long time. I could be mistaken. I used a combination of a forum that sold elsword hacks(before they patched it) for skipping pve, and epic npc. I should have just sold my acc desu since I had reaper after they removed it from the game.

parryslop and rollslop mmorpg

DARK SOULS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE

bdo's somewhat interesting combat mechanics are immediately negated by their dogshit server tick rate and retarded engine design fuckery like animation speed being tied to FPS

Is it just me or does that guy look like Chinese Elon Musk?

na I played on EU and it only went up to eve when I started and lvl cap was like 50 I think
I still remember to trade IBs back then you had to buy seals and shit like that it was aids
Yeah too bad I didn't know bout that site, I also had a voidels account with a shittons of ibs, if I had known I'd probably have made some money but I know it for next time I have an acc to sell, thanks

Yilong Ma.

action combat mmo

you dont remember Tera?

Parry Slop

Roll Slop

Extremely generic visuals

dark souls ruined rpgs

Won't happen / won't be good. The purpose of MMOS is to keep people paying for months and months which means trivial but grindy content. Making players do intense combat for so long will burn them out and they move on. MMOs will always suck, it's time to give up on the concept.

I already have good pvp.

You cannot do this because the average player gets filtered hard by anything resembling action mechanics such as proper positioning, not having everything be cancelable 0.01s after player input, using more than 1 attack, etc. Anything more than a dodge or a parry for a modern player is a money pit and will kill the game financially if the game has anything resembling difficulty.

The ones that don't immediately quit the game will continue playing but refuse to acknowledge how bad they are / refuse to actually learn the game and then will complain to the devs extremely vocally which spawns the online hivemind. The devs fold, nerf everything or overbuff the player and the game becomes a shell of what it used to be if it doesn't die an early death.

This is specifically in the context of online games. Players get extremely mad when they see other people around them clearing content when they themselves can't. Open world PvP is also a death sentence nowadays.

The players did this themselves.

youtube.com/watch?v=Mlp2WiTB0dU

gotta get above platinum if you were playing solos on pc version. that's when you get the real sweaty dudes with >1k hours in the game that'll wreck you in seconds. in general though, population in the west is garbage and devs don't care. real shame.

I like action combat in single player experiences but it looks dumb as hell when you have 10-20 players all doing acrobatics and spamming flashy visual spell effects. It could be done well, but every action combat mmo I've tried has been a fucked up visual mess, totally indecipherable. For however dated and simple tab-target combat is, when I played wow classic at least I could tell what was happening and what other players were doing.

It looks great but it's Korean so it will probably have predatory monetization

Open world PvP is also a death sentence nowadays.

albion is doing pretty ok these days, i think they'd be doing a lot better if they forced steam usage considering the pop counts look bad with 60% of the population using the non-steam launcher

Yea np I always look to recoup money on games I'm quitting. RMT is based sold my league account for around 1000 a few gacha accounts (FGO genshit etc) for 200-500 been using EpicNpc for like 12y and only been burned once out of around 60 transactions (lost 20$ trying to buy an overwatch smurf)

if a mmorpg doesnt have open world pvp without player limit
its not a mmorpg

fippy

The game you're looking for doesn't exist

warhammer is the closest i found and sadly they ruined it and the "fake official server" is fucked thanks to switching teams

The kind of action combat I would want in an MMO is and FPS. I want to shoot waves of enemies alongside a big platoon of bros and shoot down a giant mothership or something.
All of the other melee&magic action MMOs I've seen/played are just pathetically easy mashfests or glorified singleplayer/small coop games in isolated instances.

to ensure that outcomes arn't decided by stats alone

wtf is this guy talking about? wow vanilla was, and still is, about SKILLS

people who think you can get skillcapped at this game, even in 1v1 are m0r0ns. goes to show these dudes never played a fucking MMO before, sounds fuckin promising KEK

it doesnt even work in PVE

The best I can offer is that the original Planetside 1/2 main devs are currently making another MMOFPS, but it will probably only be PvP.

Yeah that's the problem.
As much as I like Planetside, I wish someone would come out with another shooter MMO like Global Agenda.

as long as there's no p2w and they keep the grind to a minimum, but it's a kmmo lol.

action/pvp-based mmo

There was a whole trend from 2005-15 of devs trying this and they all failed or have niche success
There's not much interactivity between "action" and tab target outside of bosses having a stagger state and no telegraphed markers

Yeah, trying to go "full" action just doesn't work out.
The games that have a balance between Tab and Action, mostly via a mouse-controlled camera and a more concise list of skills that can nest around the WASD keys is the ideal sweet spot. Something like TERA or ESO feels more favorable than say PSO2 or Black Desert.

Why do people have such a hard time accepting that the only 2 MMOs that will be around for 15+ more years is (retail) WoW and OSRS. That's it. That's the list. Objectively the only two MMOs that are worth putting time into.

I thought one of the reasons most MMOs had cooldown type gameplay is because server cant handle real time combat with hundreds of players.

only korean formula that can succeed is the black desert one but it needs to be heavily westernified.
maybe chrono odyssey is just that.

throne and liberty flopped.

looks like dark souls mmorpg, I'll play for sure.

dodgeslop

parryslop

dead on arrival

Korean MMO in the big 25

Haven't you learnt your lesson yet?

breaking away from traditional mmorpgs

breaking away from what every single mmo keeps trying and failing to do?
i'm so happy that after 15 years those ukies and russians are actually releasing a playable UE4 L2 server this year and ncsoft can't do shit about it

link for this?

l2mw.org/lu4

Autism.

MMO

the only genre for people dumber than ARPG fans. Might as well admit you like sniffing glue while sticking crayons up your nose

Something's wrong with this version of DDON

oh shit
I lost hope years ago because I thought this was a scam
pls b goode

totally indecipherable

utterly wrong

I don't have high hopes but impaling a dude with your greatsword and yeeting him off screen gives me a huge caveman boner

dumbed down TERA

I'm in

no elins

nevermind

MMOids are too stupid for action combat
pressing 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3 while a plugin tells me where to stand is the best my goonbrain can handle

kinda sad that sekiro inadvertently sent parry onto the path of becoming a tired mechanic

parry and dodge

fuck you
fuck you
fuck you

It only works in Korea, 5ms tops
Koreans that play at 1ms complains when it goes higher than 4ms i remember
Every MMO made in Korea is a certain fail in the West

P2W whale bait.

devs are retarded

let's make black desert online

CHANGED MY MIND let's make TERA

CHANGED MY MIND let's make dragons dogma

CHANGED MY MIND let's make red dead redemption 2

CHANGED MY MIND let's make breath of the wild

CHANGED MY MIND let's make final fantasy 15

CHANGED MY MIND let's make vindictus

CHANGED MY MIND let's make ELDEN RING

kek same, it's like they injected warhammer fantasy into a soulslike and let the ragdoll gods do the rest. if the entire game is just me turning dudes into ballistic projectiles with a zweihander, i'll put up with the rest of the korean mmo jank no problem.

the meat and potatoes of the game will be rollslopping around hyperarmor bosses

the bosses were the worst part of vanquish

Zased

Vindictus had much better combat than rollslop and was arguably an MMO (instanced, but this doesn't seem to be any different) like 15 years ago.

vindictus is barely even an "mo" game, let alone an mmo

this is how you make good games you copy from the bests

I'm not seeing any indication that this is much different. I bet you that Vindictus will have a massive edge in responsiveness and control since it was before the time of skeletal mesh locomotion bullshit.

Sure looks the same as everything elsy

Korean devs

Aaaand dropped

immediately negated by their dogshit server tick rate and retarded engine design fuckery

very true but you moved the goalpost. fundamentally the combat is pretty unique in the way the key combo inputs were designed, it just doesn't actually work the way it's supposed to because lol shit engine designed around sub-5 ping gameplay, and it also comes with a shitty mmo tied to it so yeah it's a shame. wish there was an offline game that just had bdo controls.

Korean devs had a chance of breaking into the western market with Lost Ark, they even said they were changing the game's system so it would "fit" the western audience more in terms of their p2w garbage. But instead of just doing it, they delayed it for a fucking year and then when all the actual players started leaving, they refused to do anything about the bots because they didn't want the player numbers to crash so people would laugh at the game. I'm glad Korea is dying, fuck that culture and people

Mite b cool, but what's massive about 4 player dungeons?

Black Desert literally did this though, but people only want action combat games where you strafe and roll around a lot in the middle of a fight and spam 3-hit LMB attack chains a lot while occasionally pressing 1234 qerf or whatever.

looks more "traditional" than even pso2 lmao

Unless they have combat like in Genshin I'm not interested.

fischl.png - 307x901, 360.89K

genkek has some shitty ass combat

PvEvP

dodging and parrying is what determines fights not being strictly limited to stats alone

the system is designed to allow fleixibility/let players contribute in their own way, yet the graphics look like that

yeah this shit is DOA

There is no other multiplayer RPG with combat so fluid.

I don't know what it is about BIG LARGE NUMBER being displayed in a game as damage feedback but it instantly turns me off from playing it if it's an action RPG. I'm fine seeing that information in turn-based party RPGs or turn-based strategy games because they're already using an abstracted combat system where interacting with the UI elements and making textbox choices is basically the gameplay, but in action games they just look silly and distracting. I also hated when they implemented that shit in modern Monster Hunter games. The blood splat system where "big hit = big splat" and "small hit = small splat" as well as different color gradations was already sufficient at communicating whether you were being effective. And once it's in the game I will have to leave it on if I don't want to lose the edge that it gives you, especially in a multiplayer environment where you're going to handicap other players if you intentionally remove that information from your screen.

also incidentally no other multiplayer RPG with a playerbase with their gender as fluid.

no other multiplayer RPG with a playerbase with their gender as fluid

it's not a game people speedrun

i really did like the fast character switching in genshin. it's one thing they popularized that should definitely show up more often in other games.

paedophile

It only works in Korea, 5ms tops

literally skill issue. i'd destroy people in PvP back when i played TERA
i really enjoyed large group fights like corsair (which was 20v20) because the game would give everyone the same gear, i'd often drop 20+ 40+ kills, would often get 0 deaths too, and i was connecting to servers in chicago when i am from latam

Koreans that play at 1ms complains when it goes higher than 4ms i remember

then they are skizo. those games surely must feel a lot better with really low ping, but all mmos handle events with triple digit tolerances. TERA isn't fucking counter strike and 1 digit latency should be imperceptible with all the noise going on

kda.png - 237x144, 47.03K

game is largely designed around PvPvE

hard pass

God damn am I sick and fucking tired of the obtuse blend of 'gritty photorealism' and 'high fantasy.' It just looks fucking stupid, like a bunch of larpers in spraypainted PVC armor having plastic lightsabre fights and rolling around like spergs. This will unironically drive me to drink. I don't even want a good MMO anymore, just one that's tolerable I won't uninstall and refund before even finishing the tutorial because of how ugly and stupid it is.

action combat MMO

When will these retards learn it doesn't work. It didn't work when MMOs were actually popular, and it doesn't work now when WoW and FF have about 5 million players maximum between the two and the number continues to shrink every month

It has always worked, but we need the WoW generation to die out before they stop crying about it

I thought that it was Elliot Rodgers Page in the thumbnail

Korean MMO

promise

looooooooooooooooooooooool no

TERA PvP was pure kino when it worked, especially after they normalized gear in Corsair — it was one of the few times skill really *mattered* in an MMO setting. Same with Fraywind before it got trashed. Timing, positioning, class matchups — all of it clicked in those few rare windows when netcode, servers, and playerbase all cooperated. Honestly, the only people who cried about latency were the ones mashing skills out of rhythm anyway. Sad how the genre peaked in like 2013 and we've been catching crumbs ever since.
