You ever game on an old CRT?
You ever game on an old CRT?
I have a CRT in my game room for playing old school games.
My old Panasonic died so I tried taking it to this racially ambiguous TV repair shop guy and he said there was water damage despite the fact that I never even allowed anything liquid near my collection.
Hell no
It's my third screen, yes.
i wish vidya made me feel like I felt when i played on a CRT…
life sucks…
yeah some piece of shit from the 1980s. i needed a RF adapter to get it connected
now i game on giant OLED tvs. you CRT fags should get the rope
I game on a new crt
What's the best CRT filter for a 1080p LCD display?
You cant play old games then poser
when I was a kid, played mario and duck hunt and circus charlie and shit.
Oddly enough though, I was born in 1999
Yes zoomer, I have.
What of it?
You got lucky and had the guy admit without prompting that he was a shyster. Take it to another repair place until they actually diagnose it.
I picture this setup surrounded by wires and vague technology-like items stuck to the walls ala crappy 90s cyberpunk TV shows.
Fuck you, you're the TV now
I got a sort-of JVC D-series recently, but the lady didn't tell me that it had scratches on the screen. I had paid them to bring it to me rather than me trying to haul it out of their place, and I didn't want to welch once it was already here.
I did organized it a bit
Oh, I wasn't meaning it as a dig at you, just that the odd eclectic monitor choices made me think of that aesthetic.
I know, i was more pointing out it was pretty much spot on with a massive cluster of wires everywhere.
Shit was reaching lain levels
now i game on giant OLED tvs
I game on both.
AIIIEEEEE GET ME OUT OF HERE
of course I did, I was born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s and early 00s. Peak living, the world was never sweeter.
I grew up with CRTs. I used them for the first 20 years.
I still got a few CRT televisions. The monitors I threw away ages ago.
Back when I had to, yeah.
Over 10 years ago I wanted to get a CRT but the only ones I could find were those that people threw out on the street
I used to walk past them all the time and they only ever had composite cables
I tried searching for the Sony CRTs that everyone raved about but I could only find tiny ones available for a very high price
Thus I never ended up getting one
Btw I'm pretty sure they gave me a headache as a kid
I've got a pvm myself and they're highly overrated. A standard consumer crt with rgb scart is completely sufficient.
I'm using one right now
16:9 crt
How much did you pay for this fucker?
I still have the one I bought as a teenager, right before they started to die out so it's as "modern" as a crt can get. But I honestly don't know if I'd buy a new one when it inevitably dies, they're going to be very antiquated at that point. We're well past the point of just finding one on the roadside for free, I'm sure assholes are charging top dollar for dirty old sets with washed out colors.
Are these legit. How and why are chinks making this
Not really, pretty sure all CRTs I've played on were from the early 90s at the earliest. There might have been one or two 80s ones I used for a bit that I'm currently not remembering though.
nta but i'm guessing they're repurposing old tubes with some dogshit chinky chassis
Found warehouses with a bunch of unused tubes
Most likely just new old stock. Some chink businessman is probably still sitting on warehouses full of CRT tubes that are only barely economical to sell.
How and why
Why do you think CRTs are some kind of lost tech? Lol. And the why is because there's obviously a market for it.
Man what a riveting idea for a thread
It's not lost tech, but there just isn't the demand to start making new tubes again. It would be a substantial investment in tooling and the demand just isn't that high.
Yeah growing up theyre shit and heavy as fuck
CRT Royale S-video looks really nice
you could use the Royale Composite filter instead but I find it bleeds just a bit too much
I gree up in the NES era so of course I ve played on CRT screens
today I have a huge JVC TV I use for PS2 and Dreamcast games
Come now, how often do you really play on those old retro consoles. Be honest now. My guess is they collect quite a bit of dust.
It's a 4:3 CRT, but i was using 720x480 because it maps well with 640x480 + overscan.
Got a 34 inch trinitron for the consoles but even with component in for the PS2 it's still a little bit too big. It does the PS1 more justice than modern TVs though.
Still got an old Viewsonic for the PC, 1024x768 85hz is great for old games but the effort of swapping it in is a bit of a hard trade.
What do you mean too big?
When I last did it was called gaming on a CRT.
It can't do progressive so for GT4 as an example it looks a bit stretched, I feel like it would look better on something smaller.
Love this lil guy
Less overall than my PC or Steam Deck but often enough that it's worth it to have one. Still finding new NES, SNES, and Genesis games that I'm falling in love with
Copetard
Is that a vga monitor
Yeah. it fucking sucked. there damned good reasons we dont use em anymore.
Enjoy your eye strain and migraines
there damned good reasons we dont use em anymore.
I mean. There are certainly reasons. Not sure they're that good though.
yea i was born during the 90s
Normal everyday TVs were crap, but monitors were insane. When I was a kid, my PC monitor, if I'm not mistaken, was 1024 pixels or something, with image quality comparable to the full HD that many people still use today to play games.
I only realized how much we'd lost in two decades of LCDs when I finally bought a monitor with a fast response time and started playing old games with the run ahead function in emulators. It's insane, but most players don't know what it's like to press a button and see the response given in the next frame on the screen.
People were selling them at estate sales and Craigslist for $50 trying to recoup the hundreds they spent years ago.
assholes are charging top dollar for dirty old sets with washed out colors.
Yeah me because idiot zoomers and aspies on this board pay for them. And free recycling ended a long time ago in my area.
Thats not an old CRT
yeah. I have my SNES with a flashcart and a PS2 with a HDD in it hooked up to it right now. friend is gonna give me his modded original Xbox too, never owned one before so I'll finally be able to play shit like Ninja Gaiden Black and Jet Set Radio Future.
Are the drawers just for show or do they open
aesthetic af
For show. Style was more important than function and having a billion VHSs that you never watch/game wasnt a concept at the time..
