Okay, so where's the art to replace it? They called it an Alpha but it may as well have been a finished product that was waiting polish passes, depending on how much art was plagiarized plus the amount of time a Sony audit could take in examining it, it could take months for new art to be made to replace all the stolen stuff, which basically cuts off a September release date entirely. In modern game dev, it also can be a pain in the ass even getting textures and assets replaced on short notice since everything has meetings, boardroom politics between execs and publishers and other shit. And all of this amidst the fact that the game had such a tepid and lukewarm response in what was supposed to be its big debut period that ONLY delaying the game to handle some stolen artwork would be doing nothing but spending more money down a sinkhole for what everyone can see is a failure in the making.

Despite all the noise the stolen art is just a few decals slapped on a couple boxes - not a big deal. Stuff like pic related definintely looks like it was stolen but since it isn't a direct copy/paste job they don't need to replace it. You can't copyright an artstyle; most assets are staying.

The real issue going forward is just the general aesthetic itself. Every time they show off the game they're going to be reminded that they're aping some twitterfag. The game is permanently tainted, it's inescapable.

Modern game development has 80% of time and resources done on building a halfway functional program. By the time that's done, there's not enough time or money for game content from pre-production so everything gets cut

There's another side to this in that they're really aping a fairly public art style that's been in vogue for over a decade, with the head art designer even doing some of that shit before the twitter artist's own works. But the negative perception is already there and they can't undo it, so 80% of the game's entire marketing is blown now.
