Sony just cancelled all paid marketing for Bungie. This shit is well and truly fucked

so we have legitimate confirmation all shilling has been cancelled? SARS.

They're either cutting their loses or they're pulling marketing until they're certain there's no more stolen assets so next time they start airing shit they don't bumblefuck into another pointless lawsuit.

If a game is delayed, is the marketing cancelled and then restarted later or is it delayed as well?

If a game is cancelled the marketing is cancelled

pray for our curry munching brothers

Basically these. They literally CANNOT show any gameplay footage out of risk there's more stolen assets.

They could make ads for radio/spotify/audible... That way they don't need to show any art assets. :^)

I am so glad this is happening

You mean again. This is the 4th time Bungie has been caught stealing assets.

I mean specifically for this abortion of a game

From trendsetting to asset stealing, what a fall from grace.

In olden times this was basically paying for broadcast slots, e.g. how people talk about how much money a minute costs to air at the Super Bowl or for airing in commercial breaks of certain TV shows.
Or how Geoff Keighley charges hundreds of thousands of dollars per minute for trailers at Summer Games Fest or Game Awards.

At the start of the 2010s as advertising moved towards influencers this basically means how much they're paying to get exposure with the right youtubers and twitchers(?).
If the game isn't coming out in fall then there's no point in paying the streamers.
So the game might not be cancelled, just delayed and then when they have a real release date again they'll buy up advertising space again.

I doubt Sony's that concerned, they'll just shift more resources towards Ghost of whatever that was supposed to come out two weeks after Marathon in case they needed to Astro Bot it.

I'm not in the loop on Marathon. Someone give a quick rundown.

snoytoddlers BTFO kyahahahahahahhahahahaha

Clusterfuck

honestly this is just an additional nail in the coffin albeit a pretty big one. if you've followed the game so far there's zero hype. people have mocked the way it looks, testing got barely any attention and it reeks of uninspired trend chasing attempt.

so that's where all the e33 shilling is coming from

I hope all the people that made Destiny 1 & 2 good find better jobs if they haven't already left.

This looks like a roblox game mode.

Bungie's downfall is so comically sad.

Bungie was caught stealing art from one particular tranny EVERYWHERE in the game. They literally can't show a single bit of footage until they have santized everything. It was that bad.

They stole or flat out copied (as in basically copy+paste with no alternation) an artist's work. Artist went to twitter to raise a stink about having their work taken without either permission, compensation, or even a warning. People saw that this artist actually has a valid case and not just some ambulance chaser grifter. Bungie got into hot water, said the 'reason' for it was due to an artist who ever so confidently no longer works there anymore, and promises to give said artist some sort of compensation.
Likely just going to give the artist a big bag of don't sue please money and maybe a spot in the credits or something if they're feeling REALLY bad about.

The Roblox mode would be fun to play.

Can't have a tragedy without a little bit of comedy.

Imagine basing your entire artstyle on stolen work. Comical.

it's comical because their ceo is a goddamn comic book villain

negotiates extra money from sony to "keep his employees"

uses said money to buy vintage cars

shows the cars to his employees so they can be amazed

fires them tomorrow

There are going to be books written about the fall of bungie.

This is the likeliest outcome. They'll just negotiate a settlement of some kind. No way they're changing the art style.

They did steal art so it's not like they can release the game. If the artist has any balls they should sue. They'd get at least a few hundred K in my opinion because the company admitted to doing it, it's a free win in court even if the game didn't release. It's obvious the entire art style was inspired by the art

Thanks, pretty lame legal though, just pay the artist to stfu and let the news cycle run its course.

CHAD

the only thing sad or tragic about this is bungie and ex-bungie employees aren't suffering more for their crimes against videogames in general

g4.png - 496x1663, 722.39K

as many as it takes to get 1 success

its bungie's concord. I didn't think the slop would ever stop but we've already had multiple bombs that dwarf E.T. yet the industry keeps chugging on

how long has this been in development?

5-6 years
they've also rebooted it entirely at least once that we know of

At least four years I think, maybe five.

GAMERS CAN'T STOP WINNING BY DOING NOTHING

BUNGIE IS DONE

i wonder if it was some lazy outsource company who did it.

bungie: hey dude we need assets inspired by some dude... sorry, girl called antir3al

third world outsourcing: say no more

at his point you'd expect they'd be launching with a full on doom 2016 style campaign IN ADDITION to a rad pvp arena mode AND an extraction mode
but no, extraction only
it's fucking criminal what they've done to this IP

already have Destiny 2

lmao make another live service game

could've just made a modestly budgeted single player focused game like Doom and indeed like Marathon proper

instead will be responsible for the biggest disaster of 2025/possibly 2026

all of this garbage was greenlit around 2020 to capitalize on slacktivism.

Most estimates put it at either 2019 or 2020

You just know that one executive was hellbent on forcing his idea of an extraction shooter.

Could f2p save this game? Or alteast lowering the price to like 15 bucks

a modestly budgeted

no such thing in aaa anymore, especially when half the game (or more) is outsourced to 30 different companies.

As we saw with Concord, Sony would rather just kill a game outright than concede with a F2P mode.

both of those are just a slow death and just like concord its easier to cancel and raise controller prices by 5 dollars

these people need to understand that they aren't rockstar, nintendo or blizzard.

we are making a game

isn't enough to guarantee sales for most devs, especially with how volatile the market and customer base has become.

Frankly I doubt they would've turned a profit even if they went F2P. Game was so unappealing I doubt the sub-one thousand players would be able to fork over enough money for garbo cosmetics and skins to make even half the budget back in with a decade's time.

Frankly I doubt they would've turned a profit even if they went F2P.

F2P and DEI characters doesn't work. F2P shows the true face of the audience.

Gooners and battered house wives syndrome havers?

That's too quick.

Because F2P will NEVER get them their money back and you've essentially tied a studio to the game. We all know they'd just kill the game after a while.

all they had to do was make a dope single player campaign and tack on standard multi with an extraction mode
would PRINT

Can modern Bungie even make a decent single player campaign anymore. Pretty sure everyone with that skillset left a long time ago.

Marathon is just a Destiny 2 sandbox copy. I doubt they really know anymore how to make games in general.

How do I get a job where I'm paid millions yearly to lose hundreds of millions on a game like Concord, and then do the exact same within a year with another game? Sounds like anyone could be Sony's CEO if you're allowed to make mistakes like that and still get paid, so I might as well get a job like that.

they forgot to mention that the beta was also dead. No one is interested in marathon, the stolen art was more like the cherry on top

In an alternate universe, they turned into an infinity war type studio, continually making Halo games for MS. Some good, some bad. Xbox still exists because of this, and acti-blizzard is never purchased by MS. But no, we got thise universe where Bungie wanted to be self important and make new art, so they broke it off with MS, and indirectly helped this cancerous consolidation of the vidya industry.

Honestly people are more interested the fact a big name company like Bungie got caught stealing so blatantly and so incompetently, Marathon is merely tertiary to the innate schadenfreude of it all.

How do I get a job where I'm paid millions yearly to lose hundreds of millions on a game like Concord, and then do the exact same within a year with another game?

Know the right people and have them like you.

I know the games invest world from the inside. It's almost always connections. They worked together on this one single successful game in their past, often not as the ones responsible for the initial success, and now they think they're the shit.

So...that supposed "employee" that put in the stolen assets, does he have any chance of being sued for costing Bungie/Sony a fuck load of money?

Have you considered being jewish?

are you female?

Sony just cancelled all paid marketing for Bungie.

This explains why the constant stream of 8 simultaneous Marathon threads on the catalogue died pretty much the day after the Twitter artist fiasco.

It's a scapegoat. Real world copyright references being used as references isn't unheard of but at this scale there's supposed to be a good number of people making sure it doesn't get into anything public-facing.
The fact that it became so pervasive that arguably the entire game's art style belongs to Antireal? Nah that's just Bungie being so malicious they thought they could just bully an artist.

You ask me the 'former employee' probably doesn't exist, its just corpo speak to try shield themselves from a more in-depth investigation.

Social media marketing is very much a real thing. Anon Babble falls under that.

The worst part is that it's literally just a reskinned Destiny 2, but it's even lamer than Destiny 2 because it's "boots on the ground" and not "swing like spider man around the map, zooming everywhere" type gameplay

Its obvious he doesn't exist, they can't flat out admit their art director stole assets.

Hey, actually, I think you're right. I even liked e33, and I think it's getting paid shills here, and it is exactly the same way that Marathon was being shilled here before the Twitter artist thing.

So...that supposed "employee" that put in the stolen assets

The "Franchise Art Director for Marathon" as well as other Bungie employees follow Antireal on Twitter and have been doing so for years.

There was no "employee". It was them.

Somehow Sony managed to have, not one, not two, but THREE Nagasaki tier bombs in a row.

Love to see it.

Why do y'all want every game to fail?

Didn’t Sony find success in Helldivers? Why not just invest more into that?

Imagine being snoy

flopspoken flopped

Concord became costa concordia

they want their own Halo, gets Concord 2.0

Had some success with Helldivers 2, fucks up again

TLOU franchise got fucked by Neil Cuckman

Consoles slowly becoming irrelevant

we've got a whole concord trilogy now

Anon the games art team has been following the artist for years. Including the art director.

the fact that they didn't just toss the guy(tranny) 20-30k for some freelance designs and an addendum to their style guide and avoided this whole mess leads me to believe the art director just yoinked all this shit and hoped no one would notice.

just yoinked all this shit and hoped no one would notice.

Yup. It's not the first (or last!) time Bungie has stolen art from Twitter either.

I was happy to ignore Marathon, and would have continued ignoring it, if they didn't keep tripping over themselves and slamming their face into the floor boards hard enough that it fucking echoes. Its like a car crash, you HAVE to at least give a glance when you hear of such a massive bumbling fuck up.

Don't forget, Cuckman's new game that looks like another bomb.

this is the fourth time bungie has been caught in asset theft. that's clearly how they operate.

If only Sony had a studio that worked in games with that kind of artstyle before... oh, right.

psyg.png - 371x416, 15.94K

We didn't know how good we had it

I still don't understand WHY they chose to link this game to the Marathon series.
It was a good series that only 30/40+ know about.
It makes no sense.

Fool me once...

suffer sony ponies suffer

WE NEED TO FIND THE NEXT FORTNITE!!!

Wasn’t Helldivers 2 a success? Just invest more into that.

*crickets*

Why is Snoy like this?

still fucking sad about this one

it's very easy, you just have to be friends or relatives with CEO's at Sony

Same. BallisticNG is the closest we'll get. Tried the VR mode at a buddy's house recently. Made me dizzy as fuck.

because in the original games your allies, the bobss, were basically playing their own extraction shooter.
i get where they saw the link but i don't think it makes for very good gameplay when everybody is a fucking bob.

should have literally ripped off of og marathon and made a story-based semi-linear shooter with invasion mechanics so that online players can be bobs for a host vic, keeping the loot and inventory mechanic but adding pattern buffers in maps so when you do find good weapons you can save them across deaths.

discovered recently that Marathon would be coming out.

pretty much bungie's version of doom

super excited

saw trailer

I don't even know who to be mad at anymore. The developers, the investors, or the fans who keep these companies afloat. At least bungie is getting fucked.

Was really hoping picrel would've been what I saw in the trailer with modern graphics.

They really do need to completely revamp Marathon at this point. You go to this tranny Artist's twitter, and it looks the fucking exact same as Marathon does. They didn't just steal the assets, they stole the entire style.

They need to buy the tranny off with some in-house position at Bungie on like a 10 year contract where the tranny gets their full paid salary even if they produce zero work during that timeframe. Otherwise, I hope some lawyer takes the case pro bono because the ENTIRE DESIGN IDENTITY of Marathon looked EXACTLY LIKE Antireal's ENTIRE portfolio

y'all

experiment with a new IP

suits don't believe it will sell

familiar IP slapped on for marketing power

Happened for Prey, happened for Doom Dark Ages, happened for this.

Just go for the carpet bomb approach of being mad, sooner or later you'll be angry at right person.

try marathon resurrected for ut99, it's pretty kino especially with modern render plugins

ASMON FUCKING WON

Gonna assume the game is gonna be cancelled now. The Japanese are more ruthless when punishing this stuff.

How much money has Helldivers 2 made so far?

your allies, the bobss, were basically playing their own extraction shooter

True to some extend, but they usually appeared for a single gunfight. That's still kind of a strecth. Maybe it's also because they're some kind of clones which come out of artificial wombs (IIRC), just like the new Gayrathon characters.
No time to revamp, isn't the game out in a couple of months?

Best we can do is 3k and some in game credits

Because they spent $3.6 billion on Bungie and want to use any brand recognition they can whilst saying "From the creators of Halo!"
It's funny because Marathon has little brand recognition on it's own these days, and if it wasn't for pic related recapping the series no one below 30 years old would even know about it. I mean really, it was a late 90's MAC EXCLUSIVE game. How is your intended audience base of modern day live service players going to know what the fuck Marathon is?

MD.jpg - 900x900, 64.85K

Lukewarm alpha, artstyle that has nothing to do with the original games, lots of textures were literally stolen from a twitter troon.

think about Concord on steroids

How hard is to just add a 60 FPS patch to Bloodborne and add Ape Escape 3 to PS plus?

The most mainstream Marathon ever gotten was the time they re-released the sequel on XBOX LIVE arcade.
I would know, I played that port. Gave me the worst case of motion sickness for some reason though.

that's sick. thanks for the rec

I have no idea who might be the guy in your pic

late 90's MAC EXCLUSIVE game

It wasn't mac exclusive. Marathon 2 was released for Windows too (I had that game, thanks dad).

True to some extend, but they usually appeared for a single gunfight.

well yeah if they even lived that long

Haha. I must confess that I shot them right after the fight to get extra ammo.

off topic but frieza should have been a woman who became super sundere over time towards goku

Hyenas
Concord
Marathon
Fairgame$
The four horsemen of the live service apocalypse.

Fairgame$

what's this?

concord 3

You cannot copyright an artstyle.

Sony's third live-service shooter, pretty sure it's gone radio silent ever since Concord flopped

salty over a shaved head woman

It'll clear 25 million copies in three years. How can you doubt space zionism??

Sony better crack the whip at those lazy swiggers, I want more freaking content!

>we are making a game

isn't enough to guarantee sales for most devs,

it literally is as long as you have attractive female characters instead of ugly negros and trannoids

the guy was a literal kike, of course they thought they could get away with it, they have been getting away with it for 2 millennia

you might remember the trailer
youtube.com/watch?v=l1Jp4K02L1I

As poorly received as Concord was, only difference was that Concord released like two weeks after its reveal whereas this was just a CGI trailer, we haven't learned a thing about it two years later.

Last week the studio founder left shortly after the game had its first external playtests, which doesn't bold well.

True, but you can copyright art. And Bungie flat out stole bro's art and pasted it into the game as textures with minimal modifications. If they don't change it, the artist could sue for damages and royalties and win pretty handily.

this IP

no one gave a fuck about this IP before/during/after this latest round of paid marketing

was

literally first time I have seen this trailer. looks like complete shite

whilst saying "From the creators of Halo!"

I actually want someone to run a comparison on the credits.
The venn diagram between modern bungie with marathon and the halo games is likely two completely separate circles.

can someone edit hyenas in into "concord zero" or some generic sounding prequel name shit

what's sony's plan there? close them and buy a new fresh AAA studio for another 6 billion?

concord origins

fucking ship it, i hate my photoshop skills are shite or i would do it myself, i will wait for another fag to do it instead

Concord Begins

Last week the studio founder left shortly after the game had its first external playtests, which doesn't bold well.

fucking lol, as if you'd willingly put your reputation on the line with something like this
the crash can't come soon enough

I think this is true and there's nothing riskier to this industry than a new IP.

Thought of something...
