Is it better to wait for the Switch 2 or get Steam Deck or wait for the portable Xbox?
I want to get into portable gaming .
Im considering getting the Steam Deck now before the tariffs hit.

The Steam Deck is the best gaming system I've ever bought by far. Valve is unlikely to raise the praise due to tariffs, but they might not do sales as much or at all anymore.
If you really want a portable gaming system, the steam deck is a better idea. Just download yuzu and eventually the switch 2 emulator
what kind of retarded question is this?
You have a Steam library, get a Deck
You mostly care about Nintendo, get a Switch
It's entirely possible the tariffs proposed against Vietnam go nowhere especially since there was apparently a call between the US and Vietnamese presidents to sign a bilateral agreement.
This would mean the Switch 2 would go back to being the same price as we already expect.
It's kind of retarded that I even have to go into Anon Babble shit to discuss what console to buy, but if you want the Switch 2 it should be because of exclusives. If you don't care about Nintendo's first-party output then get a Steam Deck.
I don't expect Xbox to put out a handheld that isn't heavily reliant on their cloud streaming solution.
I don't expect Xbox to put out a handheld that isn't heavily reliant on their cloud streaming solution.
They don't view cloud streaming as a product.
Do you want to play Nintendo games? If not then get a Steam Deck.
Will Portable Xbox have built in steam library
Their entire focus now is on providing avenues to access their streaming service on whatever hardware you own.
I would sooner see them releasing a low-power handheld designed for streaming than actual dedicated Xbox hardware in a mobile form factor.
They'll probably outsource it to some company like Logitech who already makes a handheld like that.
Microsoft thing is confirmed just a white label Asus (bad).
People are saying if you want Nintendo get a Switch 2, but that's only if you want nu-Nintendo. The Deck will play far more Nintendo games than the Switch 2 ever will. Only get the Switch 2 if you want games from the abomination Nintendo has become. Even then, if anything Nintendo is doing is disturbing you, you could just wait for the Deck 2 and emulate the Switch 2.
Start at the beginning.
Start with the Milton Bradley Microvision, and work your way up.
They testified how it's not cost efficient and is a feature not a product. They already developed streaming shit but never released it. Xcloud isn't going anywhere
PSA: anyone who has had Decky installed on their steam deck for at least a few months, delete or disable it
Last update is cucking whatever version of Decky you've had installed and will perma crash SteamOS if its not disabled
There are two different xbox handhelds. The partner one is the asus thing. Theres the next gen one that Phil has teased.
Regardless of how cost efficient it is, it is now their premier product that they relentlessly push.
If they actually release an Xbox handheld that has the ability to play console only titles like older 360 and original Xbox games through backwards compatibility then I will buy it. If they don't do that then they can fuck off.
I haven't had any issue. Usually if there's a problem it's a specific plugin, not decky. That said, decky plugins are the only time I've ever had problems with my deck. Worth it though.
I was playing a game and then randomly couldn't press the steam button to bring up the steamOS UI. Same with the button under the right trackpad.
Had to force it down and then reboot but got this error message, basically never being able to load steamOS unless you press the "disable decky" button.
Now i'm cucked though, because the only solution to use it is to update it but I forgot my sudo password.
You can't clean wipe decky and reinstall?
Looks like I avoided that since I'm on 3.1.5. Usually when there's a steam update I wait a day or so to see if decky also gets an update and then update decky first to be safe.
Decky installer asks for the sudo password which is tragic
only get the xbox portable if you like gamepass, it’ll just be a portable gamepass machine
I deleted Decky months ago because it kept borking my installs and I had to reset multiple times.
There's videos on how to reset it
youtube.com
If you don't care about playing switch 2 games at release then get a steam deck, you won't regret it
I want to get into portable gaming .
Buy a chinkheld, a PSP, a n3DS or your pick of Game Boy devices. A Miyoo Mini will set you back $50 or $60 and can play an enormous number of games.
but I forgot my sudo password.
How can you even forget your user password?
Steam Deck, especially the OLED version. It's optimized for portable gaming in ways Windows cannot be, though you can install Windows if you want to for some reason.
Switch 2 is only good if you are a tendie fanboi who hates his money.
Portable Xbox is a big unknown, could be bad could be good nobody knows at this point. The only advantage is plug and play Gamepass compatibility. You can do that on Steam Deck but requires extra steps.
Microsoft sees its future in Azure, and they're probably not wrong. Amazon's web services are so much of a part of its business that the store could just close down entirely and they'd be fine.
get Steam Deck
Depends entirely on what you want to play on it. Remember the hardware in a deck hasn't been updated in 4 years beyond adding an OLED display. Don't expect to play many games made in 2025 and those that do run would have spotty frame rates. Also the battery life is fucking terrible. I played LE Skyrim today it drained the battery dry in 2 hours. If you are looking for an emulation machine I'd recommend visiting the Handheld thread in Anon Babble for better options that could concievably fit in your pocket.
Don't expect to play many games made in 2025
Same goes for Switch 2 at decent settings and frame rate.
Deckyloader was the only thing I used the password for and I didn't interact with it for like a year. Tried the responsible thing of not recycling the same few passwords and used something new
Hell yeah, i was looking for something like this months ago
I'm waiting for the 'eck 2, which realistically might come out in 2028-2030, if ever.
And chinkhelds don't run anything at all either, x86 emulation is a total scam.
I don't think there will be another Steam Deck, not with SteamOS being available on other handheld PCs.
don't wait for anything. just consume.
The deck can play just about anything besides eac games that the devs have specifically forbidden linux. Even games like indiana jones can run on the deck at 45fps. It won't always be at the best settings obviously, but the games can run.
Valve said 2-3 years over a year ago.
steam deck is an entire gaming pc that supports emulators, so the library is infinitely larger than the switch 2 library will ever be
you'll also get games at much lower prices and without a subscription for online multiplayer
switch 2 emulator will likely be released for steam deck eventually
chinkheld is tempting me at this point
i usually just play phone games but i really wanna play tetris and touch controls r aids
wasn't that just some he-said-she-said from one valve worker from one interview that went "we'll be considering making a deck two when a new hardware breakthrough comes, which might happen in 2-3 years"? If you're referring to that, than 2-3 years isn't an unconditional time frame, it's an estimation completely dependent on hardware manufacturers.
Depends what you want. I have both. I think the Steam Deck 2 and Switch 2 together would be a good combo if you want all games playable portably.
Yeah, just go get a MiyooMini or one of the other handhelds in that price range. I think TechDweeb might have put out a video recently going over a lot of the available handhelds. Also, the new Chromatic version of Tetris is really good.
It wasn't a confirmed timeframe, but it is confirmed they're working on it and that's the timeframe they're aiming for. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't be feasible unless these tariffs last throughout Trump's presidency and they want to try and avoid them.
'eck is my all time favorite handheld
I'll probably end up caving and buying a switch 2 just to play the newest fromslop but then when I get my fill after a few months I'm gonna resell it and stick with my 'eck
Is it better to wait for the Switch 2
Only if you are nintendo toddler or literal retard who cannot into pc.
or get Steam Deck
You can play almost any game on it.
or wait for the portable Xbox?
Deck but gimped, hard pass.
PSA: anyone who has had Decky installed on their steam deck for at least a few months, delete or disable it
Last update is cucking whatever version of Decky you've had installed and will perma crash SteamOS if its not disabled
LCD owner here, didn't get that problem, but I've read several people having it.
Still, to fix it start into recovery mode and go back to the previous version, then uninstall decky.
Manually update Decky by downloading and executing the decky_installer.desktop file from the official Decky site.
the switch 2 is nearly double the price of switch in my country
fuck no, this will be an easy skip
Genuinely asking: Why should I give a fuck about Europe? Why should I want to spend my tax dollars on European security via NATO and neo nazis in Ukraine? How does that help me?
Is it better to wait for the Switch 2
yes
streaming xbox games to your phone actually works decently already
Retroid Pocket.
All of those awesome XBOX games.
1280x800
non native landscape display
can't play switch games at 60fps without resolution modifiers
can't run ps3 effectively like God of War 3, no built in motion control support
running arch Linux by default, conversion to windows improbable, locking you out of older games
games in 2025 will run but on and special steam deck setting built to be lower than the lowest settings.
