A recent leak suggests that Sony is planning to launch its own PC digital storefront by 2026, signaling a major shift in the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the PC gaming market and compete more directly with platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store. According to the leak, Sony also intends to introduce cross-platform compatibility, allowing games purchased through the PlayStation Store to be playable on both PC and PS5, further unifying its ecosystem and offering more flexibility to players.
LEAK: SONY PLANNING TO LAUNCH PC DIGITAL STOREFRONT BY 2026
no chance it'll even come close. they're gonna mess it up cause it's sony
i would leave steam for sony
slut
I'm not a pcnigger, but even I know this is an awful idea. Steamdrones lost their minds when Sony told them to create a PSN account, do you really think they can download and install a new launcher? They'd rather walk on broken glass.
I mean I can watch their games on youtube I don't really see the point of this
I have nothing but contempt for 2012-2025 Valve and I would support this if it were real just like I support GOG, Epic and Gamepass. A shame you made it up.
The only way this could have maybe worked is if they did it when they first started dropping games on PC, at this point it would never work.
PC snoys is about to get a whole new meaning lmao. The worst parts of snoy and PC vegan in one person
What does this offer to me though? This doesn't mean they're going to suddenly port more first party games like Killzone or The Last Guardian to PC. It's just going to be a shittier Steam with worse sales with the added benefit of having my personal credentials and credit card information leaked annually.
This doesn't mean they're going to suddenly port more first party games like Killzone or The Last Guardian to PC
Obviously it would mean that. They'd likely be more competitive in release date proximity, too.
This isn't true, though.
How many times must we watch this approach fail before these publisher realize steam is pc gaming and just bend the knee?
Kill yourself, Steamie
The cross platform makes this such an obvious lie.
This is such a retard move if true.
PC Gamers, the only gamers that want a monopoly
I expect it to happen by the end of 2025 then
ive heard this a hundred times since 2003 and every time every corporation that tries it shoots themselves in both feet
that's because the monopoly is actually good. all the competition has to do is offer something better than steam and i'll switch.
PC vegan
Is it just you who has been trying to this force this term?
It won't stay good forever though. And you're a retard if you think it will.
EA: hmm why would I put my games on Steam, surely buyers will go to me for exclusivity
Epic: hmm why would I put my games on Steam, surely buyers will go to me for exclusivity
Microsoft: hmm why would I put my games on Steam, surely buyers will go to me for exclusivity
Sony:
Anyways what fucking Sony exclusive has even been a must play in the past like 15 years? Literally just Bloodborne
all the competition has to do is offer something better than steam
But they already do. They occasionally have better deals than Steam, so I buy over there instead when that happens.
You're simply an inertiacuck trying to justify yourself. Disgusting Steamie.
I want storefronts to have access to entire catalogues and be motivated by providing the best user experience. I don't want publishers making their own shitty storefronts and motivating people only through exclusives. Leave it to consoles to be unable to operate any other way though
It's not really that, it's just that realistically speaking nobody will ever be able to compete with Steam since they have literally over two decades of headstart compared to anyone else.
How could Sony compete when they'd also be dividing their market between consoles and PCs?
You can't start a PC storefront and then refuse to sell certain games there because you want your console exclusives, to make matters worse Sony does not deal with A LOT of games that were traditionally PC titles so you'll never see them selling shit like AoE2 or other stuff that does not exist in the console environment.
Even if Sony were to go above and beyond by making a literal Steam+ tier service AND steal Timmy's thunder by gifting you free games every month they still wouldn't be able to compete, it would still be too little too late for the millions and millions of people who built enormous libraries on Steam.
Even if Sony were to go above and beyond by making a literal Steam+ tier service AND steal Timmy's thunder by gifting you free games every month they still wouldn't be able to compete, it would still be too little too late for the millions and millions of people who built enormous libraries on Steam.
Exactly, it's inertiacuckery, just like I said. Steam has retards by the balls that feel invested with their sunk cost libraries and has turned them into drones, which explains all the rage towards shit like the Epic store (Everything else like "muh no shopping cart" is just a pretext). Disgusting Steamies are really no different from the Nintendobabs that are now defending 15 dollar tech demos. When Valve tries squeezing, they will get squeezed and ask for more buttfucking.
I refuse. If I already have an account in a DRM store like Steam, then I will have an account for all of them. Wherever the game is cheapest is where I buy it from.
pffft
Their OS is thw absolute worst. laggy, crashes and the search on the store outright doean't work.
It's gonna crash harder than epic.
Good for them.
I don't really play Sony games.
I will however buy patapon 1+2
and will buy gravity rush _if_ they release it on PC
Sony's main money is from fortnite,FIFA, Genshin etc MTX, all of them has their own PC storefront/client what are they gonna do on PC?
Sunk cost libraries work when Steam is objectively a better service than the competition, you can praise GoG all you want for their no DRM policy (which is a big reason why GoG is all but dead nowadays), you can praise Timmy for throwing some free crap at you, but at the end of the day neither can compete with Steam as a service when looking at the bigger picture, sad as it is it's just how things are.
Wherever the game is cheapest is where I buy it from.
I mean, sure, but Steam still ends up winning there.
And frankly, Steam also supports Linux, something other storefronts do not, realistically speaking I don't really see Sony ever going to those lengths either.
silence epicjeet.
No one asked you.
I mean, sure, but Steam still ends up winning there.
When it does, I buy it from there.
When it doesn't, I don't.
It's simple. I'm just not an inertiatard. I'm not loyal to Valve. They do not deserve my loyalty. All they have offered me for the past 13 years is better prices, so whenever someone outmatches them in something, I get it there. That's what all their value is. Inertiacuckery is for small brained retards.
didn't Sony want to make a very popular game as a service thing?
Wonder what happened to that
When it does, I buy it from there.
...so you buy 90% of your games from Steam and then 5% GoG and 5% Itch.io?
Not sure what you're trying to prove here, Steam is objectively the cheapest storefront around.
source: my ass
It's so stupid even if it's real. Dunno why Sony even bothers anymore. Who is their target market now that they've stopped making games and told jrpg publishers to cover up any hint of fan service?
Anon, you have been blinded by your Steamieness. Epic has a lot of better deals than Steam at a fairly regular basis.
And Gamepass is obviously an excellent deal when you use it to play games you know you don't care about enough to ever replay again.
So Gran Turismo will never come to Steam? Grim
to play what
One way i can see Sony competing with Steam in PC environment is to port all the trapped game to PC all the way from ps1 to ps4 and vita. But that's an enormous task for this big corporation so it will never ever happen.
this but unironically. Id rather walk on broken glass
I haven't bought a Sony game in 5+ years. And they think people will use their platform instead of Steam?
They'll have to make one hell of a game at launch to make it worth it, which I highly doubt.
I think it’s me and one other guy. I didn’t invent it though I stole it from him. It works because PCfags are obnoxious and always bragging and trying to convince you to be a PCfag just like vegans
i want epic games store but blue
said literally fucking nobody
i want epic games store
said tim sweeney and only tim sweeney
sony will not break it’s teeth on the hardest bite there is in the gaming industry, where literally very other big names have already broken their teeth, some of them twice
I think sony really thinks they’re the shit, on a level so delusional that I feel bad for them. That’s all the leftist fags who take over big names who think like that. No way a reasonable leadership woyld think like that.
Not either of you guys but I've used the term PC vegan before. I use it more for pirate fags because they just can NOT enjoy a game for what it is without mentioning they stole it. Nobody gives a fuck nigga
Based. No Ps6 games for steam shills
Vegans are superior
PC fags are superior
You hate both for their superiority
Many such cases
good for sony ponys but steam users won't shift. It's not a competition to steam or epic. It's just a qol feature for sony players
Years ago I did everything I could to avoid Steam, but Valve actually won me over. Their controller software, forums, customer reviews, return policy, Steam Deck/Big Picture/Steam OS, being able to access walkthroughs at the push of a button, etc... When you look at everything they offer compared to other companies it's extremely pathetic.
So Sony is gonna do what every other shitty third party dev tried when they want a piece of the Steam pie. make another shitty storefront that no one will use cause it works like ass compared to steam while pulling whatever titles they had on Steam.
Sony also intends to introduce cross-platform compatibility, allowing games purchased through the PlayStation Store to be playable on both PC and PS5
"Buy it once, get it on both PS5 and PC" is good actually
The only way to compete with Steam is to either hold your games hostage as exclusives or offer what steam doesn't by selling games without the middleman client. The former hasn't seen much success and the latter is giving up power over the consumer so no company actually wants to do it.
Well if that means day one on PC it's fine, if not this is useless and DOA. That being said, sony first needs to make a game worth playing, which hasn't happened since 2015
I am not much of a pc gamer, I mostly play console games because I use my PC to watch streams most of the time
This.
It's going to be a DRM hellscape.
To be fair helldivers was good. Not a sony game but published by them.
What games will they offer that aren't on Steam?
Steamdrones lost their minds when Sony told them to create a PSN account,
Yeah because that's just Sony getting ready to tell us to pony up for their paid online multiplayer i reckon. No fucking thank you, keep that cancer away from PC gaming.
if you got a ps5 you must feel like a idiot you will be paying for online while pc players dont while enjoying everything you do crazy stuff
Amazon tried and failed
Timmy backed by Tencent and Fornite money tried and failed
Gog tried and failed
Google tried and failed
i am sure this time will be different
brown thirdworlder spotted
you do know the moment gabe kicks the bucket the whole platform is gonna be taken over by jewish practices right?
but enough about sony fans
According to the leak, Sony also intends to introduce cross-platform compatibility, allowing games purchased through the PlayStation Store to be playable on both PC and PS5, further unifying its ecosystem and offering more flexibility to players.
That's actually kinda based but shame I own so many physical PS5 games
Because the competition does more harm than good
Oh boy, another storefront that will subject Japanese bishoujo games to ridiculous double standards. I can't wait!
non-proprietary platform
monopoly
Yeah seriously. It's fucking pathetic especially when some devs try to throw their lot in with epic or other stores. Nobody fucking cares that you don't like paying 30% on millions of dollars of profit. If they didn't pay 30%, Valve would either pass that on to customers, as Valve have their own world class infrastructure to run, or they wouldn't and developers/publishers would still charge the exact same as before. I will never be moved by the wealthy trying to cry about not making enough money. The thing about Valve is that they are stable, reliable and privately owned. All these other companies are the worst publicly owned corpo refuse trying to muscle in on PC gaming to enshittify and exploit it. That alone should be enough reason to never give them an inch. They WILL fuck you as soon as they get the chance.
Yeah man for all those people that have both a PC and a PS5. A PS5 is basically mandatory for its rich selection of exclusives and paid online service.
Hahaha total moeslop death
Haven't they been trying (and failing) to get into PC market for, like, a decade now?
Own nothing be happy future already fucked me in the ass. I can't get into sony acc because I lost mail that was connected to it and pajeets in psn support are of no help. My physical discs is all I have
Amazon tried
???
what?
when?
did someone say bloodborne on PC?
Post yfw Bloodborne Remake is Snoyteam exclusive
IP got moved to holdings company so they likely aren't planning on it anytime soon.
People like playing games on a big tv from the comfort of their couch
Paid online sucks but the biggest multiplayer games are free-to-play and don't require the subscription
Playstation Network has 100M MAU, which isn't as much as steam but it's not a demographic to disregard out of PC elitism
Sony launcher
When Netflix, HBO, Prime and so on already exist
Why though? they're too late for this now, if you're a pc gamer then you already have the tools to emulate what you want from them, steam is already a thing too, what's the appeal?
What is stopping you from playing PC Games from your couch? If anything, Steam's marketing falls flat on its face here. Steam has had features that make it console-like for over half a decade. Steam has had the feature of PlayStation portal for over half a decade and all you need is your phone or a tablet. Playing a PS5 game you own on your PC implies that you have a good enough PC to play modern games. If your PC is good enough, I ask again, what do you need the PS5 for? The rich exclusives? The honor of paying for online that is free on PC? What?
still haven't ported bloodborne on steam when they port everything else
not a chance anon
Just put your games on Steam dawg, nobody with a PC will use your service
and compete more directly with platforms like Steam and the Epic Games
lmao, yah because thats doing WONDERS for EA and ubisoft
OH NO NO NO! Snoybros, how do we spin this into something good? We spent the entire week talking about how Snoy is now the most consumer friendly gaming company, as long as people forget their many transgressions. If Snoy creates their own launcher/platform, people will release they're as jewish as companys like Ubisoft, Blizzard, and Epic.
Why they need to launch a digital storefront when their console sales are doing well? You're already heavily invested in the console market you might as well not bother making a pc storefront.
What is stopping you from playing PC Games from your couch?
Most people don't have a second PC in the living room, don't unplug their PC to move it into another room to play games, don't have a HDMI cable and power supply lying around in the living room to plug their laptop into, and don't have one of those boards/tables to use a wireless keyboard and mouse while sitting on a couch
Consoles are just fundamentally more convenient for playing games in a lounge room setting. It's what they're designed for and there's a significant existing audience which proves there's a market for it.
when their console sales are doing well?
Funny you say this all while ps5 ports are fucking flying to pc.
really makes you think huh
bruh
Sony also intends to introduce cross-platform compatibility, allowing games purchased through the PlayStation Store to be playable on both PC and PS5
and somehow, bloodborne will be absent
I think they fucking hate bloodborne
you must wait longer to delete post
alright...weird policy but ok.
there is meant to be > before Sony, since I can't delete and repost.
more money
But Anon Babble told me many times that it is okay when sony does it.
retard
They'll obviously use Bloodborne PC release exclusive on PlayStation Store PC to bring people in.
t. played Bloodborne at 1080p 120fps months ago, it was mid btw
its ok when NINTENDO does it
Shuhei Yoshida said something to the effect that Miyazaki wants to port but now that From is massively expanded and able to develop multiple titles at once to keep a steady output, they actually don't have time they're able to dedicate to porting BB and Miyazaki doesn't trust anyone else but themselves to do it right
how did bluepoint get to do a demon souls remake?
on the hardest bite there is in the gaming industry
they tried that 20 years ago when they thought they could get into the handheld market, the sad part was they had an alright first attempt even if they didn't come close to their competitor, but they fucking torched themselves on round 2.
This is honestly the logical consequence of Sony' PC strategy.
It would be cool if Sony also released their own Linux distribution and Linux native builds of their games.
Damn, Sony lasted 5 console generations, exactly the same number as Sega did.
If they do this it'll just undersell till they decide to go back to steam
It would be cool if Sony also released their own Linux distribution and Linux native builds of their games.
that would be the opposite of cool, you bootlicking moron
It took companies so long to port games or make games on PC. They had their chance during the 2000s when Steam was at it's infancy. By 2010s every company try to make their own store front to compete with Steam, but at that point Steam was already cemented as go to place for PC games. Now every company is playing catch up or trying to survive on their console base which is only big thanks to certain demographics (3rd world people that buy sport games). Anyone that still cares about console wars in 2025 is a loser for sore loser companies that had many opportunities and more resources. Looking at you Microsoft.
this
They all basically chose the easiest options that required the least effort to chase the highest profit and never once thought to play the long game. They can now rest in mediocrity. Even bingtendo is losing is luster for normies.
Microsoft shitjeet detected.
brown hands typed this post
if you say something bad about SONY, it means you support Microdick
lmao, retard shitskin
If it means simultaneous release for Sony's PC games, I'd buy from Sony's store
Just in time to fuck over the next Xbox kek.
Buy what?
Last of Us 2? Horizon? God of Onions? They don't make games anymore.
So bloodborne on pc?
I like all of those games :^)
That'd be funny as fuck.
If this actually happens steam is finished. Imagine all the sony exclusives you could play on pc
what are they going to sell? 10 versions of the last of us
good luck with that shit, I can't see them getting a ton of sales on their own store considering they've blown their load on steam
b-but bloodborne
not happening
Another fail attempt by a company to make their own pc storefront. Let me guess they think another Last of Us or Uncharted games exclusive to their PC store is going to sway people to move over. Look at how people reacted to the PSN requirement for Helldivers on steam.
I don't care, I would install it just for migrated trophies
Lots of seething Sony haters in this thread.
I don't like Sony either, but come on, who gives a fuck if they open their own store front. Nobody is forcing you to use it.
twitch had some gaming launcher thing, an amazon exec made a post about what they tried to do and how it turned out
As VP of Prime Gaming at Amazon, we failed multiple times to disrupt the game platform Steam. We were at least 250x bigger, and we tried everything. But ultimately, Goliath lost. Here's why:
The 15+ year long attempt to challenge Steam started before I was VP of Prime Gaming, but we never cracked the code. Not under my leadership or anyone else's.
The first way we tried to enter the online-game-store market was through acquisition. We acquired Reflexive Entertainment (a small PC game store) and tried to scale it. It went nowhere.
Then, after buying Twitch, we created our own PC games store. Our assumption was that gamers would naturally buy from us because they were already using Twitch. Wrong.
Finally, we built "Luna," a game streaming service that let people play without a high-end PC. Around the same time, Google tried the same thing with their product "Stadia." Neither gained significant traction. The whole time, Steam dominated despite being a relatively small company (compared to Amazon and Google).
The mistake was that we underestimated what made consumers use Steam.
It was a store, a social network, a library, and a trophy case all in one. And it worked well.
At Amazon, we assumed that size and visibility would be enough to attract customers, but we underestimated the power of existing user habits. We never validated our core assumptions before investing heavily in solutions. The truth is that gamers already had the solution to their problems, and they weren't going to switch platforms just because a new one was available.
We needed to build something dramatically better, but we failed to do so. And we needed to validate our assumptions about our customers before starting to build. But we never really did that either.
Just because you are big enough to build something doesn’t mean people will use it.
We needed to build something dramatically better
This guy hit the nail on the head but I wonder, what could anyone even do to be dramatically better than steam? And in a way that within a few months of you doing it steam can't just copy and integrate into their platform?
Can they even be unseated by outside competition at this point?
not happening
I doubt SONY execs are actually that retarded. Bloodborne PC strikes me as something to keep powder dry on for when you really need community goodwill.
well it's either that or wait for shadPS4 to play the game without crashing.
Bit late for that since elden ring already exists I don't think many people would give much of a fuck
Can they even be unseated by outside competition at this point?
Not likely, sunk cost alone is entirely too strong. You'd need powerful API hooks to launch existing steam library games in your own store. There's also no option to possibly match the back-catalogue of discounted classics and indie games.
Steam also has fringe benefits like Steam Input, big picture, game streaming, steam workshop, guides, forums, etc.
There will be a point at which Steam could be unseated, it's when the main PC architecture goes from x86 to ARM, there will be a very narrow window to become the market leader in gaming on ARM, but Steam is likely to use their resources and low overhead to lock that down instantly. They also have a head start in translation layer development, so it's very likely they'll dominate ARM gaming as well, but it will be a difficult transition point for the industry, and there's a small chance that enough billions in R&D can lock it down by someone else.
Bit late for that
Not really, it's got a pretty obsessive community and inflated reputation. It also has broad desire among both troons and chuds, so it's going to be a big pop-off whenever it's announced.
On that note, MS really need to remake New Vegas to capitalize on its reputation.
Interesting, I wasn't aware of that whole PC architecture angle. Thanks for the effortpost anon
It's funny to see these corporate morons try and fail at doing the simplest thing.
Just be a good service. Fat discounts, ease of use, and no bullshit. That's why Steam (and GOG) continue to exist. This is why everyone else (including Epic) has failed.
About to get handed an easy win and immediately humiliate themselves by challenging valve. They just never learn.
Microsoft are the only ones putting any effort into ARM right now, but it's the same kind of effort Valve put into gaming on Linux in 2015. A decent effort, but not good enough for anyone except bigtime enthusiasts to jump in.
AMD have also been refining their power-efficient x86 APUs which will end up pushing the switch to ARM later down the line since no one feels the need or benefit at the moment. It'll likely be something to watch out for in the early 2030s.
that size and visibility would be enough
When the first reaction of people that are more engaged in the gaming landscape is "Amazon had a gaming store?" you have failed at the whole visibility part
Besides not having to pay 30% cut, a nice benefit for Siny is that people won't be able to laugh at steam charts.
Sony PC Digital Platform
have to pay a subscription to use my internet
Bound to fail
Meh, I already only play like 1 game I probably will be a smartphone only boomer by the 2030s. Nothing good is coming out anymore and windows is becoming more and more jeeted with every update. More bloatware, less actual usefulness. Google fu doesn't matter anymore because the results are saturated with moronic shit totally unrelated to your search, symptomatic of the corporotised dumbing-down of the entire internet.
I think I'll just take up a different hobby like painting or playing guitar, or perhaps alcoholism.
This weakens the Steam monopoly attack you see pop up from time to time. Gabe keeps winning!
Nothing good is coming out anymore
might as well kill yourself at this point
Spoiler alert: There are, you are not looking for it because gaming outlets will barely cover
I think older zoomers will also also reach that point by then, so it's really only something for alphooomers to be worried about.
Bit extreme. Just because video games are garbage doesn't mean you should kill yourself, as I said I'll just get a new hobby.
U doin ok man?
nobody is buying our games on Steam?
clearly they'll buy our games if we release Sony Playstation Network for PC
they're gonna hold Bloodborne hostage to that storefront and it'll be hilarious.
It's as extreme as saying that nothing good is coming out anymore
But will it have Bloodborne?
I think I'll just take up a different hobby like painting or playing guitar, or perhaps alcoholism.
Join us plamo gods
He's probably a sony fanboy. I've never known anyone other than them to get that extreme.
Actually I was thinking about model airplanes, perhaps of the remote control variety.
Drones however, are gay
Yes, but the sad truth is that Bloodborne is extremely mid and kinda boring.
literally the one thing I care about is being able to play this co-op without splitscreen or slowdowns.
RC sounds like a fun hobby. I've always wanted to get into it but between vidya, plamo, yugioh and playing the bass there's just no room for it.
They also tell you "just pirate bro" when you talk about almost literally anything, when it's usually a shitty mess to play more often than not. Just like actual vegans, they're trying to make you consume something shitty and look down on you enjoying something better. I'm going to start using PC vegan too.
sony fanboy
caring about barely covered videogames when sony stick are ultra cinematic productions
at least you tried
try to hold Bloodborne hostage
anti-piracy is cracked within an hour of release because Sony has the worst security in the industry
What's a good place to start with this? Just snapping stuff out gluing together and putting a few decal stickers? I'm not a big weeb so gundam isn't really something I'd be into.
Do they do mechwarrior plamo?
What other fanbase can you think of that considers video games worth dying over?
Plus we're in a sony thread right now.
no source
no leaker that has a history of being even a little right
If anything they do the Ubisoft approach and release on both Steam and PS Whatever, and give people in-game rewards for buying it on their platform like Ubisoft used to do.
Bloodborne isn't even that good. Niggers are just obsessing about it not being on PC for some reason.
they'll release a pc port of bloodborne
I'm NOT going to
buy games
register to PSN+
upgrade from a 1070ti
install more clients
allow cross-plattform play
use fake frames
generate AI images
buy consoles
I haven't heard of any mechwarrior lines personally, what about armored core? Because kotobukia and Bandai have some kits for it.
You could also get into girlpla
Hm that's true I do like armored core and hot glue threads.
Definitely food for thought.
sighs and it will be windows only and imbed Microsoft further even though windows gets worse every update with no sign of them fixing a single fucking thing
and playing the bass
I want to get into that. How do you recommend I start learning? Don't really have the will with final exams coming in May, but once I'm done, I'd like to get into it, though I'm finding it hard to get clean notes or train my brain to disconnect my hands from each other.
So do you actually have the instrument?
Because what I did when I was starting out was pick some songs that I liked and looked up some tabs.
The amount of pcfags that are totally okay with the idea of a Steam monopoly is truly concerning. Guys, wanting a Sony monopoly back in the early 2000s would have sounded pretty good considering how the PS1 and PS2 turned out but look at them now. Would you want modern Sony to have a monopoly on the industry? Steam has stayed consistent for a long time but that can change in an instant. These big companies aren’t your friend, retards, so stop rooting for them to take control of everything
Because Sony is retarded and think expanding to pc won’t kill their console along the way even though Xbox has clearly shown it will. The fact these dense fucks still haven’t picked up that they should take the Nintendo route of making great, smaller games and keeping everything 100% exclusive under lock and key shows that they’re completely inept
I will never trust Sony with anything due to their retarded security blunder they had for the PS3
b-but that was years ago and they gave away games
I don't care. Imagine any other service shutting itself down for a god damn month because they fucked up so hard. Everyone lets these god damn retards get away with so much bullshit and they'll suck them off a month later
I just remembered the shitshow with helldivers 2 as I was typing this garbage out. Stop buying their garbage please I'm begging you. Don't be a fucking paypiggie for once in your life.
It's because it is a tease for bringing mandatory paid subcription to use online on PC, retard. Microsoft tried the same shit with GFWL.
Honestly speaking, they could probably successfully challenge steam since they have a lot of experience with digital storefronts and hopefully, hopefully don't make the PC software too shit.
But it's Sony. So the software will be shit enough for people not to want to use it.
e they have a lot of experience with digital storefronts
They are going to get hacked day 1 and it will be very funny
Most people don't have a second PC in the living room, don't unplug their PC to move it into another room to play games, don't have a HDMI cable and power supply lying around in the living room to plug their laptop into, and don't have one of those boards/tables to use a wireless keyboard and mouse while sitting on a couch
You don't need any of that, though. Stream from your main PC to the TV using something like Steam Link or GeForce Now or something (you don't even need a dedicated set top box anymore. Steam Link and GeForce Now are downloadable apps now available on smart TVs)
since they have a lot of experience with digital storefront
They literally have the worst security.
Good luck lol
For what purpose, all their games are already on steam and whatever new stuff they release they delay it for a year or two until they release it to pc.
And thats not even mentioning how they're increasingly only releasing slop after slop
they should take the Nintendo route of making great, smaller games
You know the crazy part about that? Even though Nintendo's games tend to have a lower budget and less staff working on it they're considerably longer and higher quality than anything Sony has shat out in the last 20 years.
My only issue with this is that every alternative to Steam is worse. I'm totally fine with GOG releasing DRM free games at good prices. But Epic? EA? Ubishit? Microsoft? They're all objectively worse stores that offer 0 advantages. They just want to FORCE you to use their stores by putting money in games not releasing on Steam, they offer nothing that benefits the consumer.
I didn't pirate a single Snoy game on the PC since day 1, despite them being on Steam.
They are not even worth pirating. Not one Snoy game that was ported so far is worth the bandwidth.
Wrong. Days Gone is really good. God of War and Spider-Man are also with playing.
Sony launches digital storefront at 2026
majority of the games are multiplat
some exclusives
What's the point?
I don't understand why some people hate Steam so much when it's by far the best service even when including the consoles. It has a built in community, media sharing, stores to sell in game shit, mod support, has a fucking device like the Steam Deck too, big picture mode to use on the TV, support for all controllers, VR, good sales, why do you hate it so much? The one time they tried to fuck us over (paid mods) people said no and it just ended.
It's been TWO DECADES and we're still not seeing that butfucking you faggots keep speculating about, they have been the monopoly on PC for at least a decade, and nothing, they're not even afraid of the competition, they never pay for exclusives like Epic, they're right in thinking that users decide which store is dominant, not developers like Timmy said.
when it's usually a shitty mess to play more often than not.
How?
Sony thinks it'll bring them more software sales while their Apple tier fanbase still shells out for the hardware.
It's ACfag anon. He doesn't know how to pirate so he considers it complex.
So do you actually have the instrument?
Yes, and an amp.
These are the golden requirements Sony PC storefront must have on launch:
Everything that steam has.
Easy linking and transferring your PSN data.
Port ALL PS1/2/3/4/5 to the pc storefront. New Sony exclusive games can have 1 month exclusive to console then ported over to PC
Sony won't do this and I know.
I fucking hope this is true. The biggest reason I'm still barely a Snoy is my trophy autism. If I can link it with my PC I'd fucking never touch another console again.
Steam keeps adding features and doing amazing sales despite not needing to do it because they already have all the market. They're literally the most benevolent out of all the big video game companies and you faggots hate on them just to be contrarian.
The Xbox store is honestly what made me stop buying Xbox, all console games on PC day 1, crossplay, and everything just carried over, the console itself was made redundant, I could even play with my console friends from PC.
I wish Sony would launch a digital stormfront...
I think this is what stopping Sony going full all into PC. Their console would be made redundant and more people would transfer to Windows a Microsoft product to play Sony games. Now unless Sony could make their games Linux friendly I doubt Sony wants Microsoft hegemony to increase even more.
Yeah I fully invision the day where consoles are simply invalidated as PC convinience just grows more and more every day. I'd love to be a PC only guy some time soon well PC and VR.
they should have done this before making any PC ports and made them exclusive to the PS store
This is actually amazing and will be a huge success in an alternate universe where Steam doesn't exist.
humiliation ritual
2025
The year PC gaming turned into a mess of storefronts, where you must buy multiple subscription services to play every game in a series split between them
"But your weak link is, this is Earth."
Cause admit it. You will buy PS Plus as a PC gamer.
Sony's basically trying to grasp sand slipping through their fingers at this point. Consoles are going to die. At least as a main gaming platform. In the future they'll probably be demoted to the same level as handhelds and VR as being side piece of hardware that you can opt into but PC will become the main gaming system for basically everything. It's honestly an inevitability that I don't think anyone can really deny at this point.
I'm a PC gamer because I don't fall for that shit. I do enjoy watching consoles lose relevancy and have to flee to PC though. I give Nintendo another 5 years at this point.
PC gamers freaking out over Helldivers 2 is what caused this
Can we ever realistically get to that point with the GPU prices we're getting?
We already got rid of Epic, and EA and Ubishit are launching their shit on Steam too. I don't remember the last time a PC game didn't come out on Steam.
If Sony are gonna release games on PC then yeah, they might as well do it day one and cut out Sony and Epic.
Nintendo would rather die than become a PC store, the future will be PC + Nintendo since they're doing handhelds, and if handhelds stop working they will come up with some other shit that either keeps them going or kills them forever.
Consoles are going to die.
Oh no, consoles aren't going to die but the way sony and MS are handling it will cause theirs to die. It's already happened with Xbox for instance.
if valve made an affordable "console" it might help
I find it hilarious that sonyfags have now reached the point where they're desperate for consoles to die just because they think Sony is going to PC.
No they wouldn't. They're a public company and they have zero integrity, all they actually have is obsessive controlling and greedy nature. They will do whatever they have to to survive. They would even bring their games to Steam if they had to, but that would be an absolute last resort. When their last line of hardware inevitably goes down, this gen or the next, they will do everything they can to create their own PC launcher first.
I mean the issue is what other alternatives do you think even can exist at this point for someone else to revitalize the console market after Sony and Microsoft fucked it? How do you actually envision someone else just inventing a console that is convenient and affordable enough with enough games(imagine trying to licence like 3 decades worth of games that would need to be done from scratch) to actually be a worthwhile alternative to just having a PC? You need to realize as well that with normalfags a large reason consoles even can sell as well as they currently do is brand recognition. I don't think it's possible for a new console to exist.
Their hardware is fine as long they keep putting out pokemon and zelda games that don't look like it requires a PC to run it well.
this gen or the next
What makes you think this when the Switch is probably the best selling console ever? Wouldn't they have like 3 or 4 more gens? It's not slowing down for them at all like it is for Sony and Microsoft.
Please for the love of god no. Just use steam. Why do these fucking retards keep insisting on forcing their dogshit platforms nobody will use.
I wonder if companies actually use Steam to understand why is so successful. They keep spending millions on barebones services thinking is just about the games and not all the other extra stuff the general audience likes. Steam has pretty much created their own social media platform with communities, profile customization, trading etc. But then Amazon spends a billion dollar on their platform and the app is just the list of games.
Anon, the moment that happens Nintendo will have to do some incredible downsizing since console sales makes up a large chunk of their profits.
Also you're treating them as if they're the same as Sony and MS who sell their systems on brand alone. Basically as long as they continue to make games exclusive to their platforms they'll never have a reason to put them on other platforms.
Yay, now I can play third-person over-the-shoulder cinematic action slop with crafting and RPG elements
The Wii/DS gen where they sold 260 million units compared to the WiiU/3DS gen where they didn't even top 100. Do not underestimate just how hard Nintendo can fail. Their primary audience are fickle normalfags who do not care anywhere even remotely near how much their fanboys do. They live in totally alternate realities.
Have to download new storefront(not bad but bit annoying depending on the optimization and features)
Have to make a PSN account(annoying)
Have to pay to play games online you already bought at $60-$80(fucking retarded)
How do you actually envision someone else just inventing a console that is convenient and affordable enough with enough games
I'm going to blow your mind here, the only reason consoles are "unaffordable" now is because of Sony and MS pushing the idea of powerful hardware. Once they drop out that's it.
They also make a lot of money with the subscriptions and by selling third party games on their store, but yeah hardware is a big one. The reason why Nintendo going full releasing games on Steam sounds absurd is because they will have to be like 20% of what they are now in revenue (IF that actually works), at that point the company is not worth keeping and better declared in bankruptcy.
Sony and Microsoft literally never had the exclusives Nintendo has and their games and franchises are only getting bigger and better every generation.
Basically as long as they continue to make games exclusive to their platforms they'll never have a reason to put them on other platforms.
Except when nobody buys their platform. They've already had to kill one of the hardware lines and the Switch 2 isn't exactly getting a great reception.
And then why not just get a cheaper PC, you have no argument for that. There is no reality where consoles can exist to fill in the gap for Sony and Microsoft.
Not to mention controller support for literally everything, VR support, big picture mode for the TV, mod support, that's shit none of the other stores ever bother doing.
Except when nobody buys their platform
Which would only happen if they stopped making games exclusive to their platform.
Even the Sony fanboy forums in polls say they're gonna buy it, just wait, you'll see. None of those people will be able to resist a next-gen Zelda or Smash. Hell next-gen Splatoon might drag them in.
And then why not just get a cheaper PC,
Because there will never be a "cheaper PC". PC costs increase for reasons beyond gaming.
They're public. Their investors will eat them alive if they just sit and flounder through 8 years of a failed console generation regardless of whether they could weather it or not. And it's not like the next gen would be guaranteed either.
Which would only happen if they stopped making games exclusive to their platform.
Their home console line had exclusives. Some of the highest rated exclusive games ever made.
and the Switch 2 isn't exactly getting a great reception.
Preorders are maxing out everywhere anon what the fuck are you talking about? The only issue people have with it are the game prices and even on that people are starting to calm down given every complaint is met with people explaining why it's higherm
Their home console line had exclusives.
Hence why the switch sold well, yes.
This would be nice. I don't want to be forcdd to buy a snoystation to play their games. And i rather buy snoy games directly from them.
Everything that Steam has
While being a PC user mainly, this is *bit* unfair demand. Steam has had all the time in world to update and improve their launcher. What I would think is they gotta get most appealing stuff working right away. Profiles, customization, working storefront, non-Sony games there as well, and instant exclusive people ACTUALLY wanna play. Then a sale season close by.
Rest comes with feedback and general improvement/optimization.
ALL Playstation games
Bit hard due to licensing stuff but at least all the in-house and important games at first. Honestly just porting all the PS1 and PS2 classics would be a HUGE pull. Especially with proper improvements.
1 month exclusive
Would make no sense. Just launch at the same time. But that would make you question why PS5 exists so it will never happen.
Even I calmed down, $70 for regular games, $80 for some premium games I guess? (Like TOTK was), it's not that big of a deal, we were just used to Switch games being cheaper than the competition.
what are scalpers and diehards
Literally everything sells out initially.
Nintendo has been around since the 80s, the others come and go but Nintendo will remain forever, the developers are probably having kids who become developers at Nintendo too at this point.
Do companies even market research? It's like anything/anyone criticizing their service or product counts as hostile and proceeds to browbeat the critics and criticism through journos, fanatics and shills in social media.
Their home console line had exclusives.
Yeah, and the ones that didn't like the Wii U and GC flopped.
Hell the Wii U games that went to switch didn't even perform too well compared to the switch original titles even with the additional content and improvements that made them better games. To this day Mario Kart stands as the sole exception because it's bundled every black Friday.
games purchased through the PlayStation Store to be playable on both PC and PS5
No chance
Was this before the Switch tax?
And the N64. All three of those had Nintendo exclusives, some of the highest rated games ever made.
Funnily enough, the Wii U didn't.
some of the highest rated games ever made.
Anon, that's exclusive to the switch.
Hell the Wii U games that went to switch didn't even perform too well
Dude. Literally the best selling game by far is a Wii U port. The game that sold the Switch is a Wii U port. And you had a slew of other Wii U ports that sold gangbuster whereas the flopped hard on the Wii U.
OoT is exclusive to the Switch?
can't wait to see this dumpster fire
Well Timmy had all the wrong ideas, "developers will decide who is the dominant store, not gamers," then he proceed to call everyone who criticized the store trolls. It's been like 10 years now? It's over, they were wrong about everything so clearly the people in charge there aren't very intelligent.
whatever they do they better never fucking allow PC players to play online with console players there is nothing worse than gaming online on PC the whole ecosystem is infested with thirdies, cheaters and hackers.
Tick tock, steamies...
"Source? I made it up."
did wii u preorders sell out
Yes, preorders for the Nintendo Wii U sold out at major online retailers shortly after they became available, indicating strong demand for the console. This trend continued leading up to its launch on November 18, 2012.
KEK
Hell the Wii U games that went to switch didn't even perform too well compared to the switch original titles
I mean they're not supposed to because they're old ports. They all still did better than on the Wii U which is impressive, a rerelease of a game selling more than the original one.
Yup. This is why even giving away free games people still won't play them on their platforms. They rather pay to play on steam because of all the extra stuff that comes with it. How the fuck did tim sweeney miss this?
just give people a steam key if they have it on ps5
Hell the Wii U games that went to switch didn't even perform too well
Because seeing it would mean they would have to work their asses for years to get to that level, so it's better to ignore it and pretend that free games is gonna solve everything.
Nope I don't want to hear any excuses from a huge company like Sony. That demand for them to get everything that Steam has to offer is not 'unfair' when they can look at Steam store for reference. Besides the PS already has profiles and storefront that needs modification to be similar to Steam. For the PS games they have a HUGE backlog of old and new in-house games. They still have the in-house studios that they can order them to port their games to PC or get a studio that focus on porting over these games. The 1 month exclusive for PS consoles is just to please the consoletards not to feel cuck by Sony, but I'm okay with Sony ditching their consoletards. Either way I don't care if Sony does what my list says, because they're going to half ass it and fail.
Third party logins that aren't automatically created and tied to your steam account are infinitely worse than multiple storefronts. That said knowing snoy security, I wouldn't want a storefront from them either.
Sony just needs to make Bloodborne remastered exclusive for the sony launcher and steam cucks will come crawling.
man these guys never learn anything
after 10 years PS4 and PS5 marketplaces are still pieces of shit that barely hold together, on the occasion that they load up at all
Yeah, no thanks.
destroying your meagre sales by opening yet another launcher
kek
thank fucking god Sony games are worthless trash
Sony is in for a real rude awakening if they think they have any actual fanbase on PC. People buy their games because they're on Steam. Nobody is going to use another launcher for them.
Almost 300 posts and NOBODY ask for source. This site is trash.
it's not GLAR so i assume it's fake
Good they need to stop building out Steam for Valve, it's a suicidal strategy in the long run. Playstation games must be Playstation only store
Source: My Phantom Penis whispers to me at night.
Gog tried and failed
GOG just went back to their original mission of being retro games. Which is honestly better. Depends how long they'll last considering their last financials. Not to mention they're the only competitor to steam that actually matter in a way that they're doing something completely different that no one else is doing.
GOG's problem is they don't offer anything people can't get for free from pirates. They need to offer some kind of actual service. Their whole business model basically relies on donations.
Tesro
I reckon they should go with trying to get the old games off abandonware sites up and running. Make it easier for people to play so many lost things. They have a voting system up for what games people want to see on the platform. If they lean more heavily into this then GOG will pick up up more traction. It's never going to steal steam numbers but that would be a valuable service.
It would be a valuable service, but it would still be relying on people buying out of appreciation when they could still easily get the games for free. GOG's in a hard place with that. They need something pirates can't just take and give away.
