just finished Yakuza 5. how does 6 compare to it?
this has been an extremely kino marathon, i can't believe i waited so long to get into this series
Just finished Yakuza 5. how does 6 compare to it?
feel like i told you this the other day in a thread, but 5 was my favorite and 6 felt like a step down. the graphics are a lot nicer but the combat is ass
yeah that was my thread, and you were right 5 was pure kino. the story has some serious flaws but i've learned to just accept that there will be some dumb shit in the series by now
the gameplay in 5 was my favorite in the series
I already really liked playing as Akiyama and Taiga from before, but holy shit they were so much more fun in this game, somehow - Akiyama straight up turns into a tekken character in this one. I also really liked the Haruka segment, my biggest disappointment was that you dont actually get to perform in her final concert after hyping it up all game. As far as the story there was some retarded shit but like you said, nothing out of the realm of stupidity from the previous games.
I'm currently playing through 7, i beat 6 about a month ago, and like you said the series was a lot of fun once you learn and accept its flaws. pic rel is sadly my experience with LAD - its just not what I got into this series for, even if it has its good points. I haven't touched it in a few weeks, not sure when i will to be honest - its a fucking slog that i'm gonna have to force myself through.
6 feels so slow and janky due to early Dragon Engine.
Kiwami two feels a lot better, what were they thinking with this game? Theres no fucking weapon variety at all
agreed on Akiyama and Saejima, i'm sad that they won't be playable ever again. i actually started 7 years ago and played it for close to 20 hours, but decided i'd like it more if i played the rest of the series first so i dropped it. i was enjoying it but turn-based jrpg's are my favorite genre, but sure how you feel about them
force yourself through it so you can play more kiryukino with the man who erased his name (assuming it's actually good)
I like JRPG's too but 7 is just really barebones compared to a lot of them, you fight the same enemies in the exact same dungeon over and over. I like the party and socialization aspects and it has some fun minigames, but I turned play Yakuza games to beat the shit out of people, not click through menus and watch them do it. I will beat 7 to continue onto the old man Kiryu game, but I really can't see myself paying full price for another JRPG game, even if I have heard 8 has some substantial upgrades in the combat department. I'd rather just play old JRPG's from decades ago that I missed - almost certainly gonna get Isshin after the kiryu game (which i heard has very fun combat)
if you like 3, 6 will be enjoyable. very overhated entry
I started to play Yakuza 6 just now as well and this shit is 30 FPS on PS4 and no FPS upgrade for PS4 Pro or PS5. Jesus Christ, the whiplash is crazy. Reminds me of Yakuza 2 Kiwami.
3 was fucking awful, no redeeming features whatsoever.
the okinawa orphanage was the last fresh thing they ever did for kiryu before he became a tojo tardwrangler for life.
nexusmods.com
is this mod any good?
and have you played or plan on playing the Judgment games? i'm pretty excited for those, i might play them both after the man who erased his name before i go to infinite wealth (i am an autist so i will be playing every RGG game back to back, maybe breaking to play Expedition 33 if it's not pozzed)
Worse gameplay wise, lighter story wise like you don't have a ton of info to remember
I liked Onomichi as a city, very chill
PS4
found your problem. i'm so fucking happy to be getting 150+ fps again after playing 3/4/5 at 60fps, even if the combat is a downgrade
the combat was dogshit but i liked the story a lot, might even be the first time in my life i played a game on easy
i can't say anything about mods, i played all of them on a ps5. and i always forget the judgment games exist, i really should play those at some point, maybe after the Isshin spin off but they are definitely on the backlog
at the time I was used to it because I played 3/4/5 on ps3 at 30fps as well.
If you've started at yakuza 0 it will be painful going back to a 30fps game
ah ok, the mod in question turns 7 and 8 into brawler combat, but i have no idea how good they are, i assume they're probably jank
i'm not gonna use them because i like turn based (even if the positioning in 7 felt like shit)
I dislike 5 Akiyama with how easy it is to start the wall kick QTE that takes like 10 years to do 20% a mook's healthbar. Also all his story boss fights are the same guy with more mooks each time.
It's fun but feels a little short to me.
y6 feels closer to yakuza 1 or kenzan since it's an engine switch. shorter but has some improvements. less spectacle in that manga/anime fashion but still there in some way. a lot of it is half baked first attempt. somethigns are overambivtiuos like voiced side stories.
how does 6 compare to it?
It's a tech demo that should have been done on a spinoff like Kenzan or Ishin were. Many mechanics are underbaked, the Champion District and Hotel District are "Under construction" so Kamurocho is smaller than ever, there's about half the amount of substories as in any other game (Though they're mostly good), the combat is a joke and even if you don't upgrade anything you melt through enemies, bounce blocking is at its worst here with combat being not that fun if you're not dropkicking or grabbing everything, Heat tries out a new system that is so broken you have to avoid using anything related to Heat, and bosses die in two Heat Actions. That's not hyperbole, bosses will literally die in two Heat Actions at 200 attack. The final boss can take like three.
The story is alright, Someya is fantastic, and the music is also great (As long as you have the restoration patch).
I too dislike 7. Trust me, Infinite Wealth is entirely different. Enjoyable combat, enjoyable map, step up from 6 and 7 narratively. LJ is still the GOAT of combat though
6 had a pretty nice china town though until it was gone and hasn't been fixed in 10 years
Y6 is one of my favorite, idk if that's an unpopular opinion.
Someya was the new best character in the game by far, they did that nigga dirty. Would've been fine with him being a major part of the tojo organization going forward
step up from 6 and 7 narratively.
Don't lie to the man. 8's narrative and story is easily one of the series' worst. It straight up forgets an entire character exists for over 11 chapters.
how does 6 compare to it?
shit
6 is the worse game in the series
not even close.
liking the cuck game
your fault the series went to shit
8 can be salvaged by its great characters but the voice acting suffers on both languages. palekana was a fucking mistake
Nah, it should've just ended there and they shouldve commited to ichi or black pantherman or whoever the fuck else. shameless developer though.
6 shit
/thread
5 has the best mini games and side content in the entire series imo so in that aspect 6 is a big step down. story wise 6 is slightly better but harukas character arc and the ending are a bit decisive to say the least.
I felt retarded when I found out that spamming heat mode cutscenes wasn't the intended way to beat 6 amon, you were supposed to pick up drones or something
To my defence I'm used to bullshit in amon fights, I played yakuza 4
Unless there was a way to tank through exploding hammer
8 can be salvaged by its great characters
Unless you like Ichiban, because he is such an awful character in 8 it's astounding.
I don't remember 7's dungeon being that bad aside from Yokohama underground, although you never have to visit that place again once beat it, so I didn't mind it that much (unless you want to torture yourself with needless grinding)
5 is the yakuziest one in series, you get to do a shit load of randomests, really reflects the series
The biggest variety of minigames with racing, hunting, dancing and baseball (but different)
more than one extra map
the most retarded main plot in series(it is close though)
It got it all and only thing that makes it not celebration of series like 0 is lack of references to the series
oi anon if you're not gonna eat that can i have it
it's no masterpiece
6 is basically a beta test for the Dragon engine that they would eventually drop in favor of EU5 and it really shows
I hated 5 except the final act being fun. 6 ended up being one of my favorites though alongside with 0, K2 and 3
Y6 is one of the worst games.
4 and 5 are some of the best.
5
kino
You're obviously a connoisseur of shit taste, so you'll prolly enjoy literally everything.
and you're a connoisseur of choking on fat cocks, so get over here bitch
I'm in chapter 2 of Yakuza 6 and can someone please tell me why this series arbitrarily chooses which games will show you where the substories are when you open the map?
that they would eventually drop in favor of EU5
?????
6's Onomichi is comfy
Because until 4 they didn't care about quality of life at all, and even from Dead Souls onward they were trying to decide between just showing you them on the map or requiring an equip for it. It took until either K2 or FotNS for them to finally stop requiring an equip for it. You straight up cannot play 1, 2, Kenzan, or 3 without a guide because of that. Especially 1, 2, and Kenzan because missing a substory or messing up a choice in a substory voids Amon entirely.
Im doing ishin completion list and im finally done with the seals. That was awful
not worth it
Farming for the repentance seal was pretty bad
It's worse on the original. They actually buffed the drop rate of everything in Kiwami, you can get weapon drops in the Battle Dungeon, and you don't need to own the original equipment to craft things like the War God Talisman and all that.
Nah, that's really quick and you get like 30 item checks for it per run that takes about a minute and a half. I did it multiple times to get it to gold on my Okaenihara and Vortex.
It took me 4 hours across 2 days to get it Moose. Weapons with seals that you can harvest are very rare
Weapons with seals that you can harvest are very rare
The Yoshiyuki is not that rare as long as you were running 12 or 16 I think it was, I forgot the exact stage. It only took me like 20 minutes per attempt to get one but it is RNG I guess. The stuff you need from crafting like Antidote and Blessing are infinitely worse because it's from deep into crafting trees.
You are playing on Easy with the button autopress accessibility option turned on when farming the Battle Dungeon, right? Don't tell me you're playing on Legend/Ishin and quadrupling how long it takes to clear a stage when farming.
I got Blessing pretty easily by manipulating the crafting trees. Its fucking retarded but once you get the hang of it its ok. Also im doing it on easy and niggas are still tanky and i have the Ohekinara
I got Blessing pretty easily by manipulating the crafting trees
It took me like four hours even when I pushed the seed along by crafting something else and trying again. Antidote took me like five hours.
Also im doing it on easy and niggas are still tanky and i have the Ohekinara
Wait, you're actually meleeing everything? You never melee in the Battle Dungeon, not even in Kiwami except for the major bosses where WD R2's are worth it. Use a Vortex with Double Shot, Pierce, and Repentance on it.
Right now im making every piece of gear and i dont care if im cheating but i got a mod that boosts dungeon money gains. Im leaving the amon sword for last and yeah i am using melee im too lazy to make a gun build
I marathoned it too, playing k1,k2 3-5, 0 and then 6 all back to back. It was pretty grueling but it turned me into a man.
The Vortex is three times as fast as using the sword so it's worth the effort. Guns are the most broken part of both Ishin and Ishin Kiwami and would have made your BD farming way faster.
I found it comfy
Never got how it is supposed to be hard to go through it, when games are pretty much just wacky adventures mixed with overarching stuff, you do whatever with quirky people falling at you with their things and you just flow with it
Maybe it's different on hard difficulty or something, but I don't see the reason to play it this way, when it just gives enemies more damage and hp
Im using model 14 but i guess i can use vortex? What seals does it need i got the special tab and katanas left so i still got some work before i can call it
I really didn't like 6, there are some neat parallels with Kiryu and Kazama's relationship going on with the side cast in the game but the combat itself is such a huge downgrade from the PS3 era. worth playing because loads of important shit goes down in regards to 7, Gaiden and Infinite Wealth but I can't see myself replaying the game any time soon, if ever
Never got how it is supposed to be hard to go through it
Because most people aren't just doing the story, and doing multiple games in a row is pretty exhausting because it's very similar even with the same towns in most cases. I did 1HD, 2HD, and Kenzan in a row and then Ishin, 0, K1, and 6 in a row and I never want to marathon like that again. It's just exhausting.
but I don't see the reason to play it this way, when it just gives enemies more damage and hp
Because you can sleep through the games on Easy and Normal. Enemies don't block as much, do as much damage, have as much health, aren't as aggressive, and are generally braindead on the lower difficulties. Even on Ex-Hard/Legend you melt enemies depending on the game. 8G on Professional was the equivalent of playing 7G on Easy it was that ridiculously unbalanced and that was without me putting anything more than the basic attack upgrades.
Model 14 is only good in the original, it's bad on Kiwami. The only good guns on Kiwami are the Dragon Hawk (Poverty weapon to tide you over to the Vortex) and the Vortex (The best gun in the game).
You want picture related except swap Fierce Attack for Repentance since it's an enormous damage upgrade over it as long as you have at least 100k Virtue. Pierce can be bronze if you don't want to grind that out past bronze but you need at least bronze to ignore the armor. Double Shot needs to be gold though. Greed can be replaced with another Double Shot if you don't feel like you need it to increase the drop rate chance for weapons in the BD.
If you're using the mods that revert Seals back to how their Symbol counterparts were then just use one Double Shot for that sweet sweet 100% chance.
I made the dragon hawk today. Fucking took 20 aquamarines so i hops its good
Yeah, myself personally took 7 years to go through 0 to 7. I needed time between the games and even during the games at times. I love the series, but it gets a bit grueling when you try to do too much of it all at once.
It's not. It's just a high damage gun in Kiwami and it drops from SS20's boss regularly. Unlike Ishin you can't get Blink (Aka Flash Fire) to put on other guns so the only good gun in all of Kiwami is Vortex. Repentance and like 200k Virtue can make the Vortex do about twice as much damage as a stock Dragon Hawk and with around 2 million Virtue (Really easy to get in IK due to weapon and armor drops in the Battle Dungeon) every gun can have the max damage of 3000 so there's no reason to use anything but the Vortex.
In Ishin the Model 14 (Multiple Symbol slots but slightly lower damage), Dragon Hawk (More EXP and high damage), and Golden Gun (Higher drop rate + obtainable in chapter 3) were the best weapons in the game and you could use all three interchangeably based on your needs due to being able to slap Blink and Two (Double Shot) onto all of them. There wasn't even a need to waste a slot on Pierce because the armor system didn't apply to guns in Ishin so you could do stuff like use the Symbol that let your shot shoot through enemies for example.
I hate how over complicated the crafting system is. Seals are too hard to get and the bonuses are miniscule. I didnt know how good i had it when i was doing mini games for completion
Seals are too hard to get and the bonuses are miniscule.
That's an Ishin Kiwami thing pretty much. Symbols were easy to get and to get gold you just played a timing minigame that you could easily savescum instead of merging three of the same Symbol together.
You can get Double Shot fairly easy by crafting the first gun that has it (It's not that expensive to make at all) and it's weighted like 50% between Double Shot and I think Fierce Attack? So it's not that bad to reroll. Pierce is the annoying one out of the lot, same with Element.
You are making sure that if you don't get the Seal you want you revert your save, craft a cheap Silver Sword (I think that was the name) to get a Seal as a throwaway, and then try again, right? It skips having to constantly remake the same weapon/armor with the same materials over and over and you can try again with the same thing you were initially trying with.
Don't know what to tell you, I did 0-7 in something like 5 months and it was pretty neat time and I fought with amon in each of them except one where they force you to do mahjong
I also played persona 4-5-3 like that and only needed a break in p3.
I'm just built different I guess
How do you sleep through pushover enemies if you just crack them like nuts and get to the next interesting thing happening as fast as possible
You still get to see movesets and stuff, even though it is annoying to wait for guys to attack so you can do le epic tiger drop
With bosses and stuff, random encounters taking more than 40 seconds at most would be very exhausting I'd imagine
How do you sleep through pushover enemies if you just crack them like nuts and get to the next interesting thing happening as fast as possible
Because enemies offer no resistance at all so the combat becomes brainless and boring because you're mashing through them so quickly? It makes normal encounters really boring and makes boss encounters toothless.
You still get to see movesets and stuff
You don't in the vast majority of cases. In 6 and 8G it's to the point where you can beat a boss before you see like two moves on Hard/Professional respectively. Because you can stunlock a lot of enemies or outright ignore their attacks sometimes on the easier difficulties you tend to see far less before they're dead.
random encounters taking more than 40 seconds at most would be very exhausting I'd imagine
Even on Ex-Hard/Legend you can kill entire groups in all the durability of a 2H weapon like a bike if you really want to speed things up, and 5's entire Kiryu and Saejima sections have bikes and stop signs that one-shot enemies they touch on Ex-Hard.
The easier difficulties are terribly boring.
I guess
I played these games for side stories
oh harpoon fishing? I guess I do it now
acting in a movie? Sure
taxi street racing? Yeah why not
Combat is pretty fun, but not spend hours to learn all the moves and stacking combos for non existent style meter fun
And amon on normal is still annoying faggot, I don't want this guy to do even more damage
Satisfaction of le epic tiger dropperino and heat actions is enough
that guy thinks they dropped the dragon engine entirely because ishin kiwami was made in unreal
I did 0-7 in something like 5 months
pretty casual. i'm on 6 and it took me maybe a month and a half? i have no life though
i did persona last year 3-5-4-strikers (then smt vv and metaphor shortly after), that was a fun ride too
i'm a trailsfag though and played fc through cs4 back to back years ago so i was built for this shit
And amon on normal is still annoying faggot, I don't want this guy to do even more damage
Amon is the same across difficulties, almost nothing changes to my understanding. I think on Easy on some games he hits slightly less? But his gimmicks are still the same regardless of the difficulty and he can still one-shot you in Dead Souls, 0, 6, and FotNS regardless of difficulty.
I might have overestimated
0 and 5 just took a load of time with cabaret and real estate, hunting and taxis
It could very possibly fit in two months, or one and a half
I played without breaks I mean
So I'm not casual then, got really butthurt with his brother with a hammer
Might have another series playthrough on hard, but I would have to skip all side stories, since I've seen it all
Just don't see the reason to give any time to cannon fodder mobs that get thrown at you by dozens, and considering you can have tons of hp drinks in pockets anyway
and considering you can have tons of hp drinks in pockets anyway
Most people don't really use the inventory or try to limit it because of that very reason. I personally only use whatever is given to me in gauntlets (If at all) and try to avoid it, or use what's in the gauntlet + one full heal at most. The devs intend for you to use some healing but not go overboard, and in the case of something like 2 the final gauntlet expects you to run into it with healing items and run out of them by the time you reach Ryuji 3. It just feels way too cheesy.
honestly, after playing Like A Dragon, I never wanna play another Yakuza brawler again.
It's a casual series bro
Only thing actually intended to be challenging is amon
Main character is also canonically a roided giganigger than can rape a pack of gorillas if he wants to
At least they bother to make some of movesets kinda deep
I've been marathoning the series, and I'm at 5 currently doing the Haruka idol shit. Is it worth drudging through to finish the game and do I have to do it a lot? It's kinda grinded my momentum to a screeching halt.
Haruka stuff is very filler shit and her plotline only tumbles down with ridiculousness
If you don't find dancing and performance fun, you will just hate that part in general
do I have to do it a lot?
You have three main songs + three tutorial versions of those songs (They're just the song but you can't fail) across an eight or so hour section and it will vary what happens between those songs. You also have dance battles that are entirely optional you can do that are on the streets and one minute each. If you don't like the dancing or Haruka in general you're not gonna like the part, but it's not egregiously long and it doesn't focus on her for that long in between each song.
i have 100% in every yakuza game and can't remember 5 lmao
to be fair i didn't do all of the stuff in every game
i did real estate/cabaret in 0 but only 2/3 of the substories
cabaret in k2 and around 2/3 of the substories in both kiwamis
i pretty much speedran 3
i did every substory in 4 and 5, and the amon fights
finished taxi driver/shinada baseball but barely touched the minigames and didnt finish haruka's sidestory or hunting (but i'll go back for those, they were fun)
just don't finish her sidestory. the next character you play as is an awesome section, it's worth it to push through haruka even if you aren't having fun now
Just muh dream, taxi, hunting and dances
The main plot, saejima escaping prison again, and while shinada part is insanely forgettable
And I also thought I liked shinada part, but I don't remember shit from it
is there an item in 6 that shows substory locations? pretty annoying to go from being able to see them to not being able to. that shit makes me skip them because i get overloaded when i do get the item
All right I'll stick it out then, thanks
Not for 6. You just have to wander into them. Starting from K2 it's either a character upgrade or just available by default on the map.
Most of the ones in 6 are tied to minigames and it's kinda hard to miss them in general because they're usually along a major path.
I played 0-6 in almost exactly 3 months, night sessions only, going for all substories. After Kiryu's part in 5 I slowed down, this game is such a slog it was the only one that made me feel relief instead of craving for more when I finished. The only games I'd ever want to replay are 0 and 3.
You might as well finish. Next up is a character that doesn't even want to be involved in anything, a fucking loan shark sidekick drags the story forward instead. Omi characters are the highlight of this game and they get very little presence until the finale.
Don't remasters have it? I think 5 at least had those, from the start, even 3
I’m looking forward to the co op in 0 DC. I’m glad they finally decided to add something like that and hope they continue with that going forward.
I seem to remember 3R having them shown normally but I don't know about 4R or 5R. I'd assume they would since 4 was when they were normally on the map and I think 5 also did them normally on the map without an item.
fuck that sucks. i'll probably do the ones i find and not go out of my way to find them all, i don't mind using a guide to find them but that's still a hassle. i'll be re-playing someday eventually anyway
3/4/5 all show substories by default, which is why its really weird that 6 apparently doesn't even have an item or unlock for it
Which is the most likely experience for most players
Remasters are not that old fella
oh, were substories on the map a remaster change? i didn't consider that, i'm a newfag though and don't know what they actually changed
I find funny how sidequest markers, saving from menu and fast travel did absolutely nothing, they were just annoying in earlier games and padded the games
Namefag post incoming
Just post a screenshot of your post, you explained it before
Substories were not shown on the map in 3, only 3R. You had to use a guide for 3 because several were missable unless you went into PA and you don't want to go into PA pre-6 due to the games either wiping completion lists, substories, lowering your difficulty, or locking your save to it. 4 was when substories on the map and minimap were introduced and making incorrect choices in substories didn't void you of Amon because there's a tooltip when you're playing as Akiyama that specifically says that.
No one really knows why with Ishin, 0, and K1 they used equips to see them, why 6 doesn't have one, or why they suddenly started showing them normally after that. They're very weird about quality of life changes.
They objectively pump out games every few years
They just add whatever, not that it doesn't work, they are very experienced with a formula
Why do you think kiryu is like 70 and still gets dragged into plots, and all the retcons and shit
Other games usually don't get away with having one map for 20 years, but they make it work
