How that game going anon? You've started your trailer editing for Anon Babble3 right? You've made PROGRESS right?? C'mon anon, show me SOMETHING!

Bonus: End your post with a question the next anon has to answer about their game. I'll start. What engine are you using and why?

How do I make a video game

finished, but no money for an artist

Fine, I'll be the one to post progress on my game built with the Unity engine.
So, what's the plot on your game?

Nope, you killed the last thread with this bullshit.
Begone.

Who is the protagonist of your game, anon? describe them

You know, these threads were never all THAT great, but they've really really gone downhill this past year. What happened?

Fuck off it's Sunday!

I don't want you people playing my game

Do you have a game?

It's going. I'm hoping to have a fully polished demo by end of April and then churn out a trailer for Anon Babble3. Maybe I'll hire someone on fiverr to do it because I've never had to edit a video before. Progress for now is I've cut down my quests from 12 total to these for the demo so will focus on polishing them. Maps are going to take the most time to finish. Game features are locked in.

My game has two campaigns so plot is split.

Crime side your character was part of a cultist/cartel suicide attack on a mafia-owned skyscraper. Your character was brainwashed by the cultists/cartel. You get captured and are given an offer you can't refuse, either be a spy for the family on the cartel and advance within the family or die.

Law side has you playing as a private detective. You take on jobs related to the supernatural. You deal with various monsters in their own focused quests with their own stories. You meet the clients, learn about the monsters, and work to close out each case. One case has you going around the hub investigating a monster that is killing pregnant women at the hospital. You have to figure out what it is based on clues. Second quest for the demo is exorcising a ghost in a mansion by destroying a locket that keeps it around. The mansion itself changes around and has various puzzles. The ghost works like a nemesis type that chases you around here and there and can't be beaten in a fight until the locket is destroyed.

My idea is to eventually have these intersect with quests but will see how well that goes. I may either cross over the events and not have the characters meet ala Separate ways or make a third campaign so I can use the characters you make for it though this may get weird with multiple save files.

For my question, what feature of your game do you think will stand out the most to players?

I learned in church today that Jesus commands us to dev. So then I made this thread.

I've run into some serious limitations during the initial GDD writing phase, so what was supposed to be my magnum opus has been cancelled.

Now I'm working on a new game idea, thank God for procrastination. Unfortunately this one is going to cost real large amounts of money, but at least it's another type of game I enjoy and market has been missing.

Very interesting. Keep us in the loop.

How do I make my main menu look/feel better? The background art is temporary, and the map pans in a different direction each time. There's music, and I also want to add some sound effects for when you hover your mouse over the buttons.

I made a video talking about my project a bit. It's sort of awkward but I learned things while making it. Please make sure that the slurs you use towards me are creative.

Still working on goblins and combat and shiet. This weekend I've made some animations for the player when he's hurt, being thrown away and getting up. Also started working on being able to block attacks with your shield and fixed a few bugs. It's going fine, kinda fun to play even. Still hoping to release a demo during summer but I gotta say, all this enemy AI and combat stuff is kinda tiresome and I can't wait to be done with it so I can work on other stuff, like level design and other game mechanics.

I should get drawing, making assets is the most tedious part especially because I am not really talented for art

Why the hell do Anon Babble devs almost strictly stick to a medieval theme? Can't you guys be more creative?

Same. It feels good once you get a little better, but I still don't feel all that confident while doing it.

like shit, my character designer just upped prices by like 100% which essentially priced me out of future commissions, especially if she keeps raising prices arbitrarily, and I'm about to run out of money

I love the medieval fantasy setting, specially if it's sprinkled with some mediterranean mythos kino with shit like cyclops, medusa, harpies and so on. Some might say it's generic but there aren't really that many games like that.

eh... I wanted to do something different but the guy I was working with at the beginning insisted on the medieval theme, only for him to abandon the project after it had already started and left me holding the bag

I need someone to design the overall structure and levels for me, I just want to make mechanics...

Working on how to get an animation to play when you click to interact on a stone node. Ue5.
We got the building system working, i might model 402m0a log house later today.

It's part being posted way too ofen(last thread was what, 12 hours ago?), but in a weird pattern where when you do look for it, the thread wasn't up. Should have just made it a weekly or by weekly thing.
Other part was an influx of inane shitposting which I assume stems from /agdg/. For a while it even hit the threads on Anon Babble and Anon Babble and you coud feel the entire dynamic of the thread changing. Like the bad half of the April's fools.

Same for me, but turned out all it takes is a little practice. You just gotta know that you won't compete all those pros that churn out key art for Square Enix or gacha chracters. You gotta design around your limitations, either by creating your own distinct style or by leveraging tech like procc gen to get maximum value out of each asset and then invest heavily into a few pieces.
Think of games like Helltaker or that incest cannibal coffin one, both got massive benefits from looking distinct.

post game

i don't like mecha or spaceships or modern day

I've slept for about 4 hours, but I got an headache so I can't work with a headache so I won't be making progress...

3d or 2d
my game takes place around then, but not in Europe. its a romantic era isn't it.

I think you have a good thing going, once you have a nicer background that's not mostly blank green, it would look pretty good. The line to the left of the hovered option is a nice touch, like having something pop up on hover is cool, though just a line is a little boring, perhaps some other symbol would look better.

last thread was what, 12 hours ago?

I didn't know that when I made it my bad. I just saw there wasn't one up and posted it. You can usually tell it's one of my threads by some things I post on the OP or if you're in the Anon Babble3cord you'll know when I make one.. Regardless, I'll stop making them as frequently but I can't promise for anyone else.

sup anon, would you mind including the word dev ir gamedev next time you make one? Those threads used to contain those words and that's how I filter them so they appear on top.

Pretty nice! It makes me think of walking through a light forest on a spring morning.

Writing is taking a long time, at least 18 more days of writing before I can go back to making game mechanics

Rock on, man. Enemy AI for an action game seems tough, I've never really made one. Even just decent AI for a turn based project has its challenges so I imagine it's a whole different level.

how do you write? Like yeah I know how to put words on a paper, but how do you even start when it comes to lore, setting, characters and overall story?

Kek I do the same. You got it.

I'm polishing the rendering node hierarchy structures, and then all that is left is physics and some higher-level concepts like the Entity system.

How that game going anon?

Good. Menu's done, and I'm moving on to the Battle System in a little bit.

DQGSSS]Misc.webm - 640x480, 3.19M

Writing seems hard to my likely-ADHD ass. I know how my game beings, ends, and many events in the middle, yet I feel extremely resistant to writing it down.

I have a structure for what I want to say with each scene and it makes it go by easier. Then I proof read it
Once you structure things, it becomes much easier with the ideas.

I haven't said it before, but I've always thought that I really like how your game looks even if the type of content in it isn't really my thing.

I have two, a pair of siblings with le traumatic past. Years later, the younger sister character seeks peace and stability throughout the story due to this while the older brother character who had done everything he could to protect her throughout the traumatic past has revenge against a villainous character on his mind constantly which puts some friction between them that builds. It's pretty gay.

thanks for the encouraging words anon.

Carbox is fine. So I guess a question for you is... How do you like make a sound? Like say I needed you to make a sound for an orc or some shit. How do you come up with how it sounds like and then... Make it?

How the FUCK do I find a composer?

EVOL LONK.jpg - 505x717, 109.37K

okay so you either want to do foley or have an extensive library of sounds (usually called samples).

first of all you will want to determine and describe what this orc sound is. how long is it supposed to last, things like that. of course, references will help a lot

then you want to (and this is what I do) layer sounds together, tweaking their volumes, tweaking their spot in the timeline (I use FL Studio), and even stretching/resampling them to pitch them up or down until I get the desired orc sound.

they're literally everywhere
balatro's composer was some random guy on fiverr
music is trivial, do it yourself even

yea finding a composer is pretty easy
finding a good one or an enthusiastic one for what you want to do however, nah not really

Yeah I've seen Foley work done for movies and it seems complex. Like it's probably simple in actuality but I guess I don't have the ear to go "yeah that sounds like a car tire" or some shit.

I don't know, man, I would consider myself a little fit.

FygoonFag.jpg - 638x1135, 469.91K

Also holy shit that sounds good. Reminds me of that one arcade game where you were on speedboats racing? Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

This is the issue. I need a composer, I'm willing to spend a good deal of money on a composer, but there's going to be leifmotiffs and shit and I need to find that unicorn of a composer who "gets" what I'm trying to do while I babble out my orders like the ideaiest of idea guys.

do you have any contact info? I'd be down

good luck finding a composer who doesn't write melodies

Thanks, anon!

1. How would you design the sound for a winter song?

2. Would you say this puts you in mind of light rain on a spring day?
vocaroo.com/1ndRfhbDCAYR

Thanks for your time

What type of music do you want? I'm a pretty basic bitch and I'm looking to do work for more comfy type games as I develop my skills, but I'd love to have a dev to grow with.

well just be descriptive enough with what you want. maybe it's not the 'ear' you need to train per se, it's just about describing what the sound is like to you. remember, people can use like crumpling paper as a sound for crackling fire or something.

Honestly, speaking from my own experience, you might as well just learn how to compose music yourself. It's not as scary as it seems, and it is awesome when you get something down.

1. depends on the mood, happy winter is of course different to somber winter.

2. this music is difficult to follow for me. if i turn off my brain, I guess it does remind me of that, but I won't be able to remember this track or hum it. It will need some better structure or form for it to be memorable.

Holy shit actually good advice??? You have my respect, anon. I hope your career as a sound designer is fruitful and plentiful. You have anymore kino tracks to share?

absolutely. composing music you can't stop listening to is like cooking your first Gordon Ramsey scrambled eggs. fuck if it doesn't feel nice.

thanks, but I don't know that game.

"vampire bat" girl

batgirl.png - 116x180, 2.14K

I'm getting back on the game dev grind.
Last week I rewrote the Bike collision handling so it doesn't get stuck when colliding with walls, squashed some bugs and made more level assets.
This week I'm planning to finish a new area of the level and implement more enemy types.

file.webm - 1280x720, 3.62M

You work with what you have and what is within budget

if you're having trouble describing a sound as a whole, you can chop it up into parts. it also does help if you know some of the basics.

some of it is: our ears can hear from 30 Hz to 20000 Hz (that is called the audible frequency spectrum). low frequency sounds are like rumbles and bass. high frequency sounds are like air and hisses.

if you have some sort of waveform you can try to put it into the spectrum analyzer to see what parts of the frequency spectrum have content and if you do this enough you will be able to 'train your ear' enough to recognize them without too much trouble. of course a good pair of headphones will help.

also thanks. i'm stuck in an office 2 hours away from my house doing this shit and having to deal with clueless coworkers.

thats very good, i use musescore and the electro soundfonts are pretty poor, i suppose all the good ones are owned by some keyboard company or another

How much are you willing to spend?

difficult to follow

Is it too repetitive? Are the chords not pronounced enough?

Also, I guess I might as well ask, I keep getting told that the notes in some of my songs sound too random, how do I avoid that?

that was made in FL Studio and a lot of pirated stuff. but you can get some pretty good-sounding soundfonts for free.

yes they're too random. I can't really identify where anything is going so trying to determine where the chords are is just not viable.

I just started on the cards (power-ups) today. Place holder graphics for now until I hammer out the code for cards. After I get the cards working, I need to work on the graphics and lastly the AI.

Hmmm... I will think about it.

Yes, but it's AI.

The current implementation I'm using is really good at being more dynamic, it fucks over using lipsink, sadly. In the future games I'm probably going to value the lipsicking functionality more

Yeah, I don't use any other signature, I keep things pretty basic and that's I prefer it. I mainly want to make songs for games that need electropop or electrofolk music.

found a cool book about making pixel art recently

im tempted to make a text adventure game as a side project, learning 3d stuff is exhausting but its so neat when it works, so many concepts to learn and practice...plus blender and art and textures and sounds and ughghhghg

everyone that doesnt like slop is 1 person

ok schizo. also retard look at the post timing, you dumb fucking monkey nigger. honestly people like you should kill yourself, it would be a bigger achievement then any piece of shit game you could ever make

I'm personally finding 3D to be better than 2D. You get he same amount of work, but so much more can be done with 3D

Stop making my wife look dumb.

yeah i feel ya, 2d art is 1000x times harder than 3d, it takes more talent/skill imo, 3d you can just slap a texture on a model and it will look decent unless it's absolute dogshit quality. Plus shaders are hella powerful albeit complex and hard to debug. Plus you can fake 2d with 3d cel-shading and whatnot which is cool and generally looks nice, not that i'm anywhere near being able to do that

3D models for characters are easier to get looking decent than making 2D animations. You can upload a model to Miximato and then convert it to a 2D sprite if you had to

Use AI. It's right there, just go use it.

how do you even read this shit

Yeah but you can really tell when someone use Mixamo animations, since they have to accommodate for any kind of character they look extremely generic.

2d art is 1000x times harder than 3d, it takes more talent/skill imo, 3d you can just slap a texture on a model and it will look decent
