Zoomers are by far the loneliest generation, which isn't helped by how few of them there are. Stuff like online gaming is the only way zoomers can really have a community, because there is no IRL community for them.

That's been a thing for a while, for all generations. My older brothers played shittons of fighting games with friends in the 90s. 20 years ago I spent most of my time in WoW and Runescape talking with people in chat. Same thing 15 years ago with CS Source and teamspeak.
Zoomers just now have a bunch more games and Discord. You could argue the games are more addicting and insidious, but it's all the same shit but way more accessible.

sometimes gaming still hits. though a lot of the time its replaying stuff i already liked. im less open minded than i was as a kid, because frankly the loss of all that free time as well as just aging has really caused me to pare down what games im willing to hunker down and play for a long time.

but like as a recent example for me, darktide fucking slaps your little ding dong off. when you're in your flow hacking through enemies and the soundtrack is kicking in it feels like how shit felt when i was kid. you deal with a super low amount of toxicity for a multiplayer game, and its just fucking fun.

on the point, it probably is valid that gaming doesn't hit like it used to because other adults have much less time to just sit and enjoy a game through their underlying anxiety about adult life. so it takes a real banger to make them feel again. i doubt its zoomers saying this.

I mainly play single player rpgs by myself, but its still fun to get together with friends on discord and play games together every once in a while. Helldivers 2 was absolute kino for this.

Zoomers are a small generation. Everybody forgets this when talking about them. Millennials are a massive generation since they're the Boomers' kids; there's tons of them. Meanwhile Zoomers are Gen X's kids, Gen X was already a small generation, AND Gen X was the first generation to really get hit with the "don't have kids" propaganda. Zoomers are tiny, cohort-wise. That's the reason so many of them depend on online communities; a lot of them can't find anyone IRL.
