Any presence it had up until now were completely dashed by Mario Kart World showing up with fast food that changes your costume, an open world that you can explore freely (with lots of shit to do), and a full scrimblo roster featuring the cow from Moo Moo Farms and the dolphin from SMW. Hell Mario Kart managed to mog Sonic even further by having rail grinding and triangle jumping as new gimmicks, which Sonic racing games STILL don't have despite both of those being synonymous with Sonic.
