How do you feel about GOG in 2025?
It's great they're reformatting older games like Dino Crisis IMO but it's crazy how they just abandon projects like GOG Galaxy
How do you feel about GOG in 2025?
They're fine. I hope they don't pull anymore bullshit like allowing Hitman. I don't really give a shit about GOG Galaxy, it didn't work in Linux anyway. Just another proprietary launcher. These days I usually buy from Steam as first priority if a game is available DRM-free there (they do have some DRM-free games), otherwise I go down the list to GOG, itchio...
I never cared about Galaxy, they still sell DRM-free games packaged as offline installers so they're fine in my book. But after CP2077 and TW4 looking pozzed I don't think I'll be buying any more games developed by CDPR.
I could tell you about freegog which I prefer more than this
it's crazy how they just abandon projects like GOG Galaxy
Galaxy was a mistake in the first place. Aside from better access to old games, people use GOG to get away from platform-specific launchers like Steam and EGS and Origin and whatever else there is. Adding yet another launcher, even an optional one, was stupid and pointless.
I like that they sell games DRM-free, but I am starting to suspect that they may be going down the Steam path of censoring Japanese games according to a ridiculously biased double standard. They have uncensored lolige that Steam rejected, but now all of a sudden a Vita game like Tokyo Clanpool can't have an on-site uncensor patch?
Galaxy is pretty swell to bypass offline installer step, the games are DRM so for one that can spare it that's better really.
If it was taken more seriously and "Steamiefied" a bit in UI design I wonder how it would fare popularity wise against epic games store which timmy wasted billions on for it to still be in laughable state.
I recently broke the 1000 games on gog figure.
They didnt completely stop development on gog galaxy but they certainly slowed it down, this was decided like 3 or 4 years ago, they decided not to focus on it as a cost savings measure, they are focusing on releasing more games instead. Anywats galaxy is fine, it has cloud saves and achievements. I never used the trading cards or whatever the fuck on steam so I dont miss that at all, if anything im glad that kind of shit is "missing" from goh galaxy. Whats actually missing is a linux client, maybe after steam os gets an official release gog will have less of an excuse to not make a linux client, it will also be easier for them because they could just target steam os rather than general fragmented linux ecosystem.
Witcher and cyberpunk are made by cd projekt red, gog is made by cd projekt. 2 completely different teams
getting new games on gog is kind of a crapshoot because sometimes they have missing patches or features compared to the steam version
I feel like they've stagnated. It's not completely their fault as publishers are hoarding their old titles probably thinking about how much more they could make with remasters and remakes than just putting the old games back in stores. But GOG itself also hasn't improved much either, the lack of basic features like putting games on an ignore list makes it tedious to go through their sales when there's hundreds of shovelware garbage 90-95% off. The dreamlist was a nice idea but I doubt publishers will really care about it.
Also recently they sent an email survey about a proposed premium subscription, which makes me concerned about their future.
have games from GOG
want to play game
launch Galaxy
click play game
75% chance game fails to launch
What was meant by this?
Galaxy was an attempt to add convenience. Downloading 30 parts of an installer through a web browser and then manually installing afterwards isn't competition in the vidya storefront business. The problem was they couldn't make a decent launcher like Steam or bnet. It ended up being EA/Epic style unusable trash.
It was a good idea to have integrations so you could see all your game titles even if launching them from GOG directly took you to another launcher. Unfortunately they didn't bother to maintain literally any of the integrations so it's pretty much just the Microsoft one that still works
don't use galaxy
I wonder how Heroic launcher works on Windows
NTA, but the alternative is some stone age shit.
The only thing I care about on Galaxy is save syncing. Also, who the hell decided on split 4GB files? It's not even DVD size.
downloading 30 parts of an installer through a web browser and then manually installing afterwards
They're lower than true 4GB, likely due to FAT32 limitations (in 2025).
zoomer here, what is the best way to install all those? Just download each one individually and then run the first? Why aren't they combined if you just have to download all the data anyway?
Yeah, you have to download each one individually. There's likely browser extensions to simplify it, but it's gay. The files are segmented likely due to
the ability to split up your download and pause it
filesystem limitations of FAT32, which people still use on thumb drives and shit for some reason
trannies working for GOG
I have got around 150 games rom them, they are neat for preserving older games but for most other titles you would still use Steam
I like to own my games
Go to the bathroom
GOG used to have a downloader, but these days you have to download them by hand or use 3rd party tools.
The reason is as the other guy said, thumb drives are still usually FAT32 formatted and the filesystem can't handle files over 4GB, so splitting the files ensures maximum portability but is a real shitshow with modern games.
Why aren't you using Heroic?
What about Heroic Launcher? It's free and open source. It's what people use on Linux.
You can download multiple parts at one. Yes you run the first one after they're all downloaded to start the installation.
Why aren't they combined if you just have to download all the data anyway?
In case the download gets halted, I guess.
If you install an old game there's usually only one installer file or up to a few. Only huge new AAAs have so many files.
Alternatively you can try the Heroic Launcher in which you login to GOG and install the games like a normal launcher, but is probably more stable than Galaxy.
Yeah, with the likes of Playnite and Heroic they probably just decided "fuckit" and they're letting the community handle the launcher problem while letting Galaxy rot. I wish they'd just deprecate it and officially point to the community ones instead.
but is probably more stable than Galaxy
and* is probably more stable
too tired
Man did they split them up like that because of 32 bit limitations?
GOG is for people who enjoy sex
but not games, because they have none
lgogdownloader --repair --download --report --platform=w --language=en
Or just use Steam.
they're struggling and pivoting to porn games now
based
Many GOG games aren't available on Steam.
no Lula 3D
Never heard of it, qrd?
Many Steam games aren't available on GOG.
you can install and launch games from different platforms in it. it's free and open source.
I assume their idea was to consolidate their foothold in the store industry when Cyberpunk 2077 launched, leveraging the hype and confirmed pre-order numbers.
They burned themselves with the botched launch and acknowledge that they won't ever have the golden chance to compete with Steam after the damage to their reputation and falling from the graces of the gaming population.
Everyone, even you faggots were championing CP2077 and CDPR before the bad news started leaking.
There is even less reason to Galaxy because everyone is coming back to Steam.
Gaben did nothing and won yet again.
These are like the most mainstream adult games ever.
The concerning ones are the kagura games rpgmaker slopfests. I can only assume they made a deal with kagura for a few good vn's and had the rpgmakers thrown in as padding or something.
struggling and pivoting to porn games
why did steam do the exact same thing before them? All of these are on steam?
it's crazy how they just abandon projects like GOG Galaxy
Is it? When they started that I stopped buying anything from them and it seems it wasn't the only one. I went there because they are not steam, if they try to become steam they become useless.
Yes. Specifically FAT32 which is still widely used on USB drives.
Bros just use Lutris what the fuck. On the other hand, if you were to install the games on a dedicated SSD (maybe a RAID setup if you're Anon Babble pilled) there shouldn't be much of a reason to reinstall the game ever again except for, idk, laptops I guess.
They're the dumbest people on planet Earth and let me play the latest games with a DDL
30 old game
compatible with 20 year old OS at time of purchase
10 years later that game is not compatible with that same OS anymore
What did they mean by this?
MS breaks backward compatibility all the time. If you want to run old Windows games, use Linux.
dead service
dead store
ruined by greed
No, the same version of the OS is not supported anymore by the GOG game.
be me
download games from gog website

perfect life
no launcher
no adds
