Pricy game console is underpowered and the exclusives cost around $70-100 dollars and there are no true physical copies, just something that downloads the game via the internet, on top of paying for online services. Even the tutorial is like $10 dollars. Nintendo in general is a really scummy company whose price-gouging of underwhelming products, constant aggressive lawsuits against their own fans has drawn them a lot of hate. Say what you will about Sony, Playstation, GOG, Epic, STEAM, etc, but Nintendo has drawn a lot of bad blood throughout the years, and charging this much for games during times of economic uncertainty is really scummy.

As far as power goes, it punches into the Lenovo Go territory while $250 cheaper. It's a locked down nintendo handheld, but it's still a powerful machine in its weight class
I also have a $2.5k PC. I wanted a handheld that can play Metroid Prime 4 and the next Fire Emblem. Seeing as how the Legion Go can only play TOTK at 40 FPS handheld while the Switch 2 can do it at 60 FPS handheld, it is completely safe to say that the emulation overhead means that any PC handheld is going to have to be MUCH more powerful to match the gains you get from the Switch 2's own bytecode compilation for backward compatibility.

That, and whatever PC handheld will eventually emulate the Switch 2 will have to be much more powerful and much more expensive to do so. I love my Steam Deck to death because I love VNs and indies, but that's a different use case than the Switch 2.

while emulation is an inevitability I'm always floored at what people think the reasonable timescales actually are. the switch had emulation since there was already an emulator for the chip since the nvidia shield. we're still trying to emulate a ps4 10 years later.
I love emulation and game preservation, but it's serious cope to tell yourself that this magic list of desires will be fulfilled simultaneously:

it will have low overhead

No consoles can do 4k 120 FPS either. the 120 FPS is so that 40 FPS looks good with the VRR (as the Steam Deck has shown us) while also being able to do 60+ in indies like Hades 2 (which is very nice, as the Steam Deck has shown us).

I agree with you. People think emulation is a game of matching the right power profiles to the right system calls, but few actually know the raw amount of reverse engineering, guesswork, trial and error, and finally design work that goes into making a full emulator.
It's literally making a new machine from scratch, but with vulkan libraries as your components instead of SoC. If anyone wants to see the sheer amount of work that goes into making it work, they should read the Dolphin dev blog

You can find a suitable example from any sort of commodity, including game purchases. Would you buy the Switch for $1000? $5000? As a measure of cost compared to your total wealth both are minuscule. It's not a good argument at all, once you have savings most purchases are minuscule. That does not make them a sensible investment.

The median income in the US is $40,000, that means less than half of the country makes less than that amount. The WiiU failed because there's barely any first party games, bad marketing, no third party support and it was much weaker than the 360. Nintendo was spreading itself thin between the 3DS and WiiU at the time. There was nothing. Just a big, empty void between releases.
