Parrying is high risk and high reward. The game explicitly tells you this. Dodging has a much wider window and is more forgiving. Parrying is literally a mechanic for the edgelords and isn't necessary with dodge. And jump dodge is basically a freebie counter.

I've never had the same amount of almonds activation from the combat system of JRPG as I have from playing other turn-based games like Magic the Gathering, XCOM, Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire etc. I'm not saying I hate turn based JRPG gameplay but they are never particularly challenging, puzzle-like or complex in my experience. Persona games are definitely not an example of good combat, their strongsuit is in other aspects of the game

I ended up spending my attribute points and it was a little bit easier (im usually a rpg hoarder but gave in and spent them all). None of my characters are doing massive damage and Maelle seems the weakest even though everyone says she should be the most OP? Does upgrading your weapons help (i havent touched that)? I played in French, so I'm not sure. The writing is not particularly good however, it is mediocre. But it's not offensive enough (in French) to cause significant distress, it just does not add any richness to the experience.

- Pictos aren't just there to give you passive abilities, they're also stat equips. Some give you pretty significant health boosts which can make a huge difference.
- Some characters have healing abilities, it pretty much never hurts to have these on hand.
- Keep Vitality at pace with your level for each character, you want to be scaling it somewhat.
- Obviously check your set-up/screen isn't creating too much latency between your inputs and the game.
- Dodge as a default, you get more frames. Only parry when you know an enemy's entire string.
- Listen for audio cues. Some enemies give away their attack patterns by sound moreso than their attack animations. I've managed to completely turn some fights around by closing my eyes and reacting on sound alone.

I like literally everything about this game, except combat. I have absolutely no issues with turn-based games, but jap take on turn-based in particular (no movement and positions, have menus instead lol) will never not be lame and gay, and the dev isn't really competent with making good parry gameplay that can work mostly on your reaction and not on memorization of arbitrary timings. for example you can very consistently parry on 60fps in fromsoft games and in games that successfully ape fromsoft by learning what to look out in general animations of enemies and won't really need to memorize a lot, and it's definitely not the case here despite the game having no fps cap.
Parry issues aside, it seems that I've accidentally started playing the game I'm not a target audience of.

Yes. Dodging, jumping and (high skill) parrying. Former two are easy to read and execute, latter gets you high retaliatory damage if succeeded and thus isn't easy to accomplish. Shitposters are acting like it's mandatory and complaining when the game itself explicitly tells you early on to rely on dodging until you're comfortable enough to try parrying. Also there are stat allocations and if you ignore putting anything into your vitality then you'll be dead in two hits. The systems are clear to use but people want to be able to steamroll the campaign and are mad that they can't.
