Why did Starfield fail?
Why did Starfield fail?
the game directors are a bunch of rich dudes who don't play games and don't understand what gamers want nor do they talk to them at all.
That is correct.
It's the quintessential boomer game. It feels like it was designed by a bunch of old guys in the 90s who discovered computer games for the first time and decided to simulate their autistic space obsession by creating an empty planet simulator with no considerations of gameplay, because they don't even know what gameplay is.
It's boring, most if not all of the companions are unlikeable, ship building is half-baked, no dismemberment, dialogue choices are somehow even stupider than Fallout 4, the story itself is somehow stupider than Fallout 4, and planetary exploration is a waste of time due to most of them being carbon copies of each other.
dood what if we made a space game without aliens and anything actually fun to discover?
the astronauts who went to the moon weren't bored
They left pretty quickly.
If they went at all. Which they didn't.
Todd was too busy with that Indiana Jones game.
I like how butthurt v is because their gay little anti-bethesda campaign got completely destroyed in just a day by the oblivion remaster. Everyone knows we're back. You faggots LOST. Years of bitching online all for nothing. Keep crying about starfield though
Remember how boring daggerfall was?
Well what if we did that but in space?
For sci-fi to be cool it needs to be fantasy sci-fi
Too bad it didn't. Also Starfield is good. Also Oblivion Remastered is good. Also TES VI will be good. Also Avowed didn't do well. Also TOW2 isn't going to do well.
Starfield Won
Oblivion Won
Bethesda Won
Todd Won
Avowed Lost
Obsedian Lost
You Lost
They could have made it work without aliens if they'd made the factions actually interesting an distinct
Instead we got the space EU vs space Libertarians in cowboy hats, with zero personality between them.
It sold more than Avowed.
The setting is just boring as fuck. NASApunk? Gay. It's sci-fi that tries to replace the space opera fantasy with more "realistic" shit but fails at that, makes it lifeless and sterile, THEN throws it all out the window anyway with Starborn space magic superpowers, just gayer and more boring.
i just find it incredible that they compare playing their retarded empty """"""""""""""""""""""""RPG""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" game to the momentous achievement of humanity going into space and landing on the moon. the arrogance is quite something
KSP has empty planets and it's fun because the gameplay is focused on the journey rather than the destination.
KSP would not be very fun if you just selected a planet from a map and then pressed a button to teleport onto the surface.
It didn’t.
todd will never read this, anon.
If someone told me Starfield would give you magic powers and literally call you the Dragonborn again I'd have...oh hell it's Bethesda I'd probably have believed them
Bethesda is creatively bankrupt, all they can make now are 3D theme parks for toddlers. It's fallout in space without the lore to support it, so it feels even worse than FO4.
Obsiditrannies still sore from the massive L they took this week
Why are there so few posts suddenly? Is the site getting hacked again?
Aliens are gay.
The game fell prey to every issue it possibly could. The general nature of Bethesda games in general, a lack of whimsy, hideous visuals, bugs, the dryness of science fiction, the cop-out of "scifi-but-actually-magic" with the singularity time travel space god bullshit. No charisma.
dei slop
Decide to play through all the main story and try some of the faction stuff with a few side quests when i find them so i can criticize the game properly
Main story was all over the place and would have benefited heavily from actual alien races instead of "nasapunk" but oh also you can travel through time cause of alien technology just because
Game itself is a hollow shell of what could have been done for a space game. Having played Star Wars Galaxies i look to that as my personal favorite "space" game with pretty good space combat with lots of customization but Starfield doesn't have good space combat or good customization so it's just shit and the ground combat is just "standard"
Crimson Fleet was pretty boring
Ryujin was basically just the thieves guild with a whole skill line locked behind it but it didn't even feel worth the trouble outside of the decent stealth armor
Can't even remember what else was entertaining but i guess that time travel side quest was cool.
Get to the end and now you start NG+ and lose everything and gain shittier options to start with.
if its true that this was supposedly Todd's "dream game" and a passion project for the company then that REALLY destroys any and all hope for TES6
Everything about it was lame, gay, and sterile. It's only enjoyable if you're a little kid who doesn't know any better. There's no meaningful content in the game.
My favorite part of Starfield is the fucking bizarre "stripper" outfits because sexuality in the Western games industry is so broken they couldn't even get on Mass Effect's level
Remember how boring daggerfall was?
No I'm not underage/brown
There's nothing wrong with NASApunk, but Starfield was only superficially NASApunk. It's so far-future and dumbed down that there are no challenges to the space flight or exploration.
The janky engine also prevented them from doing anything actually cool with the environments.
Virtuos proved to be more competent than Bethesda. I have very little hopes for TES 6, it would take a miracle for Todd to wake up and smell the roses from Baldur's Gate 3 owning him in the game awards. People want their RPG elements back.
Get to the end and now you start NG+ and lose everything and gain shittier options to start with.
I'm still mad I lost my armed-to-the-fucking-teeth warship and got that shitty fagborn ship in return.
test test
no one posted on /v for the last 10 minutes?!
My favorite part of the release-grift was that the game only really gets good/gets going/opens up after you beat it once
Even though the new game is just NG+ with a couple changes and the ability to skip the intro
starfield is a truly middling game although there are a few good spots in the game and I felt that it showed the creation engine isn’t a genetic dead end. the real hate from starfield came after the Bethesda acquisition. Redfall got the same hate from journalists and counter-intelligence shills even though many of the complaints they lodged with the game aren’t factually accurate. if you actually read some of the articles that came out regarding Redfall, most “news” outlets were calling for the firing of Redfall developers or criticizing them personally in the articles. Never before and never since has there been such a vitriolic attack on developers despite plenty of worse and more predatory games being released. This was a targeted attack against Microsoft/Xbox and their subsidiaries but I really don’t know by whom. PlayStation probably, but it’s really hard to say. Astroturfing and counter-intelligence campaigns are absolutely nothing new to video games but this particular one went quite off the rails. Starfield itself is okay, the gun designs are boring, the main story is meh, there’s practically nothing to do or see on the planets unless it was hand designed for a mission. It’s missing the real exploration and role playing of other Bethesda games
go to planet
walk 10 minutes in any direction to explore
invisible wall
go to ship
move an inch to the side
land
now youre on the other side of the invisible wall and can explore for 10 more minutes before needing to go back to your ship
The absolute fucking STATE of gamebryo
procedurally generated maps with nothing to do in them is... LE GOOD
Nobody except boomer wannabees like daggerfall
exactly. i think they need to wake the fuck and realize they dont have to make their games appealing to xbox dudebros anymore. gamers are open to proper RPG's now. also hard games. hate to invoke them but the insane popularity of fromsoft is a testament to that. zoomers are even picking up morrowind after the dagoth ur ai memes and many are actually loving it. if bethesda is this hellbent on making games for dad gamers who can play one game for an hour a week, then they'll completely nuke themselves.
How did he win so much bros?
I've been to the moon a thousand times.
daggerfall is literally procgen slop with zero character. is the same as daggerfall. the only interesting thing about it is its technical achievement at the time it came out. its a footnote in history and thats it.
why does he have a gay stormtrooper funkopop?
god damn chuds are so fucking ugly looking.
because hes basically a faggot redditor from 2011 but in 2025 which is abysmally sad
gamers are open to proper RPG's
bioware cutscene simulator isn't the only type of rpg
I mean going for the whole NASA thing from the outset automatically affected the style and aesthetic. Like the bulky space diapers and absolutely sexless and repulsive attempts at fashion. Remember those "safe horny" dancers in their poor man's cyberpunk town?
Starfield won, the majority of people enjoyed the game.
publishing a bethesda game without an overworld is like shipping a mario game without jumping
this is the only actual problem with the game, everything else is a nitpick
certainly not, but if you dont think that the fact that a proper CRPG like BG3 being so massively successful for the first time in decades means anything then idk what to tell you.
One of the most beloved aspect of modern TES games is the comfy world and goofy NPC interactions
Make a boring ass space game with zero charm and repetitive procgen worlds that make Skyrim's radiant quests seem revolutionary in comparison
Starfield was doomed to fail. What's the mod scene like for Starfield anyway, I've been too busy playing NV and Skyrim to bothering modding SF.
Muh player count!
Lol it was on GamePass from day one.
Never played the game to the end nor explored all factions but one of the quest that "shocked" me the most is with the ECS Constant, the colony ship stuck around Porrima II. They were stranded in space for 200 years with no outside contact, thinking they were all alone, yet they have exactly the same technology and clothing as everyone else, and the game doesn't even try to dig into the psychology of colonists stuck in space with the belief they're the last ones of their species. Nope, nothing, you're just tasked to go on the planet, convince them to either become slaves for a luxury resort or get them a new engine. That's fucking it. Nothing else, no entries to read from, no diary kept by a colonist to document their daily life, the evolution of their thoughts, emotions and experiences throughout the journey. The only thing you can learn is that there are gay jews proud to represent their community on board.
I say shocked because it's one of many instances where adding more textual content for storytelling wouldn't have required more dev time. It's not technically challenging, it doesn't require creating new visual or audio assets, just a couple of minutes of your time to write a handful of paragraphs of coherent text in a setting that gives you enough to be creative.
Bethesda creates theme parks. All the magic is shoved in your face, but whenever you take a wrong turn or try to open a door you aren't supposed to go through, you realize that behind the facades, buildings are empty and there's nothing more to explore and discover.
Starfield was almost completely outsourced
Oblivion Remastered was outsourced
TES6 development probably still hasn't started yet (and it'll likely be outsourced anyway)
What is Bethesderp even fucking doing over there?
starfield is Todd’s wet dream childhood fantasy game. any attempt to bethesdafy the game probably conflicted with his vision for it and got scrapped
Anti-Bethesda shills lost
708389680
anti-Oblivion
we
This is embarrassing, anon.
ran like shit
played like shit
looked like shit
story was shit
$130 pricetag
no idea honestly, its a complete fucking mystery.
Art direction and writing wasn't outsourced, Todd the Liar and Emil Paglianegro are still to blame.
Every game is outsourced nowadays, so your point is moot.
true of every AAA game company being honest.
like 10% of the staff actually play video games.
everyone else is a generic richcunt office drone that works 2 hours a week.
Every game is outsourced nowadays.
Palworld indian coper faggot go away, lmao.
It's indian-coded. Whites still are a big market in the gamersphere so we tend to repel from games that give off a jeetish vibe while they may have short-term success in third world countries.
BG3 was a cheap outsourced eurojank game that looked and played like a mobile game. They were so unserious they couldn't even begin to write a story that didn't take the setting and break it over their knee. It's so "how do you do fellow kids, you like dick jokes?" when people want high fantasy.
Legitimately the only reason the game sold any copies is because larian is pushed by the industry for having cheap low quality production so tencent combined that with outsourced ching chong animations to make it look like a mobile game with bioware cutscenes
it's pure goyslop
Virtuos proved to be more competent than Bethesda
Slapping UE5 on Gamebryo
Absolutely destroying the game's aesthetic and atmosphere
Game probably won't even a 1/4 as moddable as the OG
What the fuck are you smoking bro?
These.
If they were going the no aliens route like Eve Online they shouldve at least made the different factions REALLY stand out from each other in lore, aesthetics, ship designs, stats etc.
Everything in the game is generic copy paste.
Absolutely destroying the game's aesthetic and atmosphere
oblivion's hideous aesthetic should be destroyed
My favorite bit of Starfield lore is that humanity has colonized very little of the galaxy because the powers that be have a non-expansion clause in their ceasefire agreement and that's why there's barely anything in the game
It's so fucking lazy
But you did and so did OP
i agree with you as i am not a fan of BG3 nor the generic as fuck setting, aesthetic, narrative, writing, etc, etc. i am on your side on this. i am simply speaking from a finger-on-the-pulse perspective regarding gaming right now. im simply saying bethesda needs to bank on the fact that gamers are now more than ever actually open to RPG systems and mechanics and that having a triple digit IQ is a baseline requirement.
Pajeet working at 3D asset factory is to blame for the end product being empty and soulless.
Executives are to blame for the direction taken, because it's the purpose of their fucking job. Don't try to shift the blame, Todd.
+1 bethesbucks added to your horse armor account
This is also why usually in these big games, side quests are better than the main quest. Side quests are done by a few devs and writers, while the main quest has to be approved by the old boomers, consulting firms, and more out of touch retards.
What's your favourite AAA game that came out in the past 3yrs?
I don't think you understand how many people let BG3 auto level up their characters so they could run to the next cutscene on story mode
Why did Starfield fail?
It didn't. That's the problem. It was enough of a success that Bethesda learned nothing from the games faults. When ESVI releases it'll have the exact same problems as Starfield and a bunch of new ones.
It was bad
Hey Todd
Only thing that should've been destroyed were the god forsaken character models. The lighting, environment, colours, atmosphere, all that shit was and is still great. Virtuous shat out "NINTENDO, HIRE THIS MAN" tier visuals, now the game looks like every generic UE5 game on the market.
Game was successful tho
this. the fact that so many tards dont realize that starfield is basically an alpha test for TES6 and its assets, mechanics and gameplay is baffling.
It completely failed.
It was enough of a success that Bethesda learned nothing from the games faults
A game can be an absolute failure causing massive financial losses, companies will very rarely acknowledge they were wrong these days. The best you'll have are financial reports about staff reduction and potential studio closures, or an IP being silently abandoned.
It’s funny how so many here rush to call Starfield a “failure” when it’s actually one of the most daring and misunderstood games in years. Sure, it’s not a rollercoaster of constant explosions, but that’s exactly why it’s brilliant. The exploration people label “boring” is intentionally atmospheric: it captures the vast emptiness of space in a way no other game does, making you truly feel like a lone explorer. Those quiet, desolate moments make the rare discoveries and encounters all the more meaningful.
The story is a slow-burn sci-fi epic that explores humanity’s future. If you rushed through it expecting a mindless action blockbuster, of course you’d miss the nuance. Starfield’s narrative rewards players who pay attention and think, rather than those who need a flashy cutscene every five minutes.
Even the gameplay systems interlock into a deeply immersive sim that demands patience and creativity. It doesn’t hold your hand or spoon-feed you content, which explains why some players felt lost or overwhelmed. Bethesda gave us a massive sandbox; naturally, the same people calling it “boring” are just mad it doesn’t play itself for them.
In the end, Starfield is an underrated masterpiece — not for the shallow or impatient. It’s amusing to see folks bash it simply because they lack the imagination or attention span to appreciate something this ambitious. Keep calling it terrible if it makes you feel better; Starfield will still stand as one of the best RPGs long after this tantrum is over.
t. someone who actually played more than 5 hours
How much are they paying you to say that?
It completely failed
If it even broke even Bethesda would consider that a success
TES6 should be decent then, as SF's gameplay was decent. They just fucked up by making the setting boring and using procgen.
The gameplay sucks
That makes it awesome
Wow the poorfag platform choose to play a game that can run on low end hardware over the game that requires higher end specs! Crazy!
3rd best selling game of 2023
was also on gamepass
Game was lame, but sure as shit wasn't a failure.
Pajeets
People wanted a fantastic sci-fi adventure, basically Skyrim in Space with insane lore, alien races and companions, all that stuff. We got humans...ugly humans at that.
is this a copypasta?
So why didn't Elden Ring flop? It was even the same studio of jeets.
gamepass
You mean, the platform that allows you to play hundreds of games through a $1 monthly pass at the time of release?
Not sure how Bethesda could've made $50 on each play count with that business model. In this case, player count isn't indicative of revenue. And considering MS said goypass isn't profitable, it's even less likely they broke even through xbox. We don't even know what the player count is but I'm betting my kidneys the drop was as hard and sudden as on steam.
using procgen
TES6 will have this, anon. it will be an endlessly large and empty Alik'r desert.
No it's plebbit
too many loading screens
It's just not very good in many ways. Comparisons with Daggerfall are apt, but other than retard-huge dungeons Daggerfall itself plays quickly and smoothly while Starfield even after patching saddles you with a lot of area transitions and slowly picking over loot. The story and dialog and world building also don't do Starfield any favors. It's not an absolute unplayable trash game but you're kinda better off playing any other Bethesda game for different and better versions of similar gameplay unless you've got the biggest sci-fi boner in the world
what? we cant have sentient sexy alien women! this game is supposed to be grounded and realistic!
anyways here's multiple universes and dragonborn shouts, also everyone is a brown potato human
Yes anon, that was the point. You could play the game for a dollar and it was single of the best selling games of 2023.
Any procgen will probably restrict to random cays/islands you encounter whilst sailing. And that's only if sailing is even a thing in TES6. Personally I would prefer no procgen, doesn't make sense in an established world like TES.
Universe is completely soulless and boring.
Destroying the Earth in such a shitty way was lazy as fuck, and made me lose all interest in Starfield before release.
unironically because of DEI
after trying out final fantasy XVI, which at best is simply a little "less" DEI-infected, I can never go back to slop pushing stronk women in your face at every possible opportunity. I just want engaging or compelling stories and settings.
I don't want:
normalized faggotry (this is the worst, there should be a little timidness or atmosphere which acknolwedges it's not normal)
boring, ugly women speaking
conspicous absence of heterosexuality and normal relationships
sanitized language
I learnt from experience this is instinctively opposed to what we find attractive & engaging as humans.
regardless of wheter you excuse the sanitazition by claiming the future will naturally be extremely liberal and all sorts of faggotry normalized etc.
This statement is so unfathomably full of itself that I can't believe somebody actually said it. I will never get over this. You compared your gay little nasapunk faggot game where you explore 6346734^ different empty dirt rocks to putting an human being on the fucking moon. NO, IT WASN'T FUCKING BORING, THEY WERE MAKING HISTORY ARE YOU RETARDED? HOW OUT OF TOUCH DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
cuz it was gay and boring.
I want strong and confident women in media
I just don't wait said strength and confidence being a result of being a sexless bitch who acts like a caricature of "toxic masculinity" but on a female
Why did Starfield fail?
Pay me money and i'll tell you.
The heard of the studio being incompetent is part of the problem, yes.
I love that they couldn't come up with anything that made sense so they were like "The drives had an intentional fault that was easily repaired that stripped the atmosphere from Earth and that's why it's a planet-wide desert and only a single NASA building is left with every other human structure disappearing"
Like I get it. Modeling Earth would have been a gigantic pain in the ass. But when it comes to your justification I shouldn't be wondering of the writer was lazy or incompetent
Now I know why the open world and most of the dungeons are a copy pasted nonsense of boredom.
Starfield was playtested to hell and back. A lobotomized person would think starfield is fun and that's who they made it for. Really though, they were just hoping to get free publicity with all the mods people made for the game but there was never anything big
free publicity with all the mods people made for the game but there was never anything big
hopefully this will be the wakeup call that makes them understand that they cannot fuck up TES6 or else they're doomed.
"When the astronauts went to the moon"
They weren't bored because their journey had a purpose, a meaning, it was part of something much broader. No one woke up someday and said to themselves "let's go to the moon to walk a few paces, make a few jumps and come back for lunch".
That's the problem with bethesda, they can't think beyond the images of Apollo 11 on the Moon, the implications and the reason they wen't there apart from space exploration as a general concept. This shows in their writing.
Don't charge me $70 when all you give me are baren deserts and instructions for me to close my eyes and imagine the rest of the game in my head, I'd just take LSD in that case.
Faggot thats what astronauts on the moon experienced and they weren’t yapping about it, were they
they're never doomed. they probably make hundreds of millions a year off of game sales. Now they're owned by microsoft. There's no possible way they will ever go away
They should've just made Earth a high security zone surrounded by ships and invisible walls that would blow you up if you got too close to the planet, the reason being that rogue starships could potentially kill millions of people in densly packed urban areas, so only bulk freighters and personal transports are allowed to land in designated zones. The wait time to board personal transports would take months, so the player character would have a valid reason not to go to Earth.
FO4 was a downgrade on all aspects.
FO76 ruined their reputation
Starfield sealed their fate, especially if this was supposed to be Todd's dream game.
Unless they do a complete 180 and TES VI becomes a new RPG reference, I'm not sure it can save them at this point. Most people already lost faith in TES VI.
hey let’s make Skyrim in space, but let’s NOT have multiple playable alien races or any cool shit like that AT ALL. No crazy alien technology or anything, only just HUMAN stuff, because that’s what will make the game fun! It’s going to be the greatest sci-fi game ever made!
I got about 200+ hours out of the game, its fun for a chill vibe and there is a decent chunk of unique content. The whole starborn shit is generally a fun concept and its interesting to see different peoples take on how they tackle it.
But holy shit the DLC was ass, they really need to knock it out the park with whatever they showcase at the xbox event.
i like it. there is a lack of not-quite-hard sci fi settings in vidya, ie physics matter but not enough to take away from the fun. setting it during peacetime and focusing on exploration rather than war and combat was a bold choice that allowed some of the better characters to shine (particularly my nigga vae victus, perhaps the most based character bethesda ever wrote). the ship-to-ship boarding system has GOAT status in my eyes, with zero-G FPS combat being worth every penny. it has probably the best persuasion system i've yet seen in a game. that being said, they made several gaffs with the game, some huge, that are hard to ignore:
human outposts and ruins on planets 30+ light years from the core - immersion killing in a game about exploration
no real reward to exploring outside of credits
three different outpost layouts that you will see over and over again
corpses in identical locations with indentical loot
omitting a fuel system (semeingly at the last moment, since everything needed for one was right there in-game on launch)
dragonborn in space story is lackluster
weapons feel samey
writing and dialogue are terrible
giant areas in space hundreds of KMs across with no reason for them to exist, as only the first few KMs around the planets have interesting stuff to see and do (yes it's realistic but it's anti-fun, even for a boomer like me)
like five random encounters in space that you will see over and over again
planets are pretty boring to explore, even with POIs
ship registration system that completely nullifies piracy as a viable income stream
enemies getting the drop on you in space doesn't feel organic at all
i could go on, as the flaws are myriad. that all said, i really do enjoy the game. hopping in the star eagle and tear-assing around the galaxy blasting enemies fighters is great fun
There's no reason to visit yet another barren desert in a universe where FTL is the norm. No one cares, there's no knowledge or reputation to be gained, literally no one gives a fucking SHIT because the settings is nowhere near comparable to the first humans walking another land than Earth for the first time in history.
Do you feel like Christopher Colombus whenever you go on vacation to some remote island you fucking NPC troglodyte ?
There are dozens of reasons that would take a few minutes to come up with that are infinitely better than what we got
Emil is either overworked, stupid, or incredibly lazy
"space"
You don't have to have aliens to make it interesting
They just couldn't make it interesting
I get the criticisms, Starfield definitely has its flaws.
But honestly, expecting Bethesda to still make "deep RPGs" is like expecting McDonald's to open a five-star French restaurant.
They figured out 15 years ago that mass market open worlds print money.
Starfield is exactly what it needed to be: "good enough" for normal people, way too complicated for Fallout 4 fans, and way too boring for Obsidian fanboys.
It’s a masterpiece of market targeting, not artistry. You lost.
Because it’s the most boring, vanilla, safe bullshit they’ve ever put out. Every character is fucking bland and have no balls, and is created to not offend anyone. Pic related is when I knew the game was going to be absolute boring, safe horse shit. This is supposed to be the edgy mature club, but Bethesda and everything else under Microsoft’s umbrella is infiltrated by DEI faggotry and so this is what we get.
ISN'T FUTURE SEXUALITY JUST SO WACKEY?!
And this is why Starfield will never gain mass appeal, even if it is a patrician game, because the taste of patricians and plebians can often be so quite distinct. They don't care about space, they aren't curious about the world, they can only show interest in the world in relation to themselves and their basal desires, simply because they nought have the intellectual faucilties to simulate such dynes in the grandeur of creation.
Ten time less players than skyrim.
The worst part to me is that in the timeframe Earth would NOT be a giant desert. Eventually yes but not when Starfield is set.
I'm pretty sure that's oblivion remastered
I'm a boomer who wants to explore space and find rocks that are probably empty. The problem with Starfield is they cut out the "explore" part. The entire game is fast travel.
I wanted Skyrim in space with deep lore for different alien species from different planets and galaxies. They had a fucking GOLDEN opportunity to make something with even 10x the depth of TES lore and they decided to make it Neil Armstrong simulator. They’re fucking retarded and now there are more people playing Fallout 4, Fallout NV and even the ORIGINAL Oblivion game on Steam. Skyrim literally has 10x more players than Starfield, the game that Todd said was going to surpass Skyrim and be a forever game. Not that you said anything about that, just ranting.
Ten times higher specs than skyrim
corporate gunna corporate.
why bother paying coders to quadruple the content in a game over a couple of weeks when you can pay HR sluts and marketing $50/hr to gaslight you on social media for being "problematic" by not buying the overpriced game.
this is why every AAA has been shit now for over a decade. its just corporate cashgrab trash.
They could have done so much and yet they seemed to have made a boring game on purpose
Starfield absolutely made money for Bethesda.
But the complete lack of staying power means they will probably learn lessons from it. Which is a good thing.... maybe..... they can keep on staff to make ES6 instead of having to she people but it's difficult to say whether they'll learn a good lesson or not. The oblivion remaster is a decent direction in terms of updating the graphics on the gamebyro engine at least.
you could give a random retard on here $400 million and 500 employees and they would come up with something better.
it has the feeling of a game procedurally generated by some modern ethics committee
its a monumental failure
no aliens is the issue! trust me, im paid 1c for every post i make
fuck off, when no aliens is done well, it's fucking spectacular, pity the modern gaming industry has no backbone or sense of humour
I wanted Skyrim in space with deep lore for different alien species from different planets and galaxies.
from a purely design perspective, it was super weird how deeply inspired by star trek they were only to completely dodge the trek trope of aliens at every turn
realistically Shartfield is a 5/10 maybe 6/10 game, but the problem is how fucking buggy and unoptimized the fucking shit was for its price.
If it was like $40 instead of $130 and ran perfectly on a 1060ti people wouldnt've shit on it as much as they did.
It'd be yet another mediocre but hey I'll kill 20 hours Bethesda game like Fallout 4 or something.
Bethesda outsourced the entire fucking thing to pajeet slave labor.
they should have outsource the creation of a better engine. then starfield would have been a good game
Although over the course of history there have been deviations from sexuality in the form of fetishes, the core of human desire has largely remained the same - your titties, your asses, your dicks, your pussies, and whether you like them being coated in rubber, inflated, or having strange objects shoved in them, you will never be free of the big four.
I could see the Starfield club potentially exist as some hyper niche fetish group for that kink specifically, but I couldn't see it being mainstream.
You could give them that money but would they actually be able to make a game with it.
Love when bots and shills try to spin it that way to grab some sales from clueless old retards. No, it has none of the DNA of boomer games you dirty cow worshipping faggot working for engagement farms. That would require robust systems akin to the ones we saw in simulators from the 90 with countless layers of complexity and care put into it and that indian poop has none of that. Fuck you.
Go on ask the sysadmin to shadowban me like you always do here on cuckchan.
Fuck this website of kikes and poos. Fuck you. Curse your worthless whore of a mother too.
Fuck Bethesda while I'm at it.
Fuck your awful 120GB demake.
FUCK WHATEVER YOU'RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW.
The Oblivion remake made me realize how genuinely boring Starfirld is comparatively if you are comparing their opening hours and how shallow of a game it is
not a single retard here could manage a 4m budget and 500 employee team
I mean oblivion is less a remake and more a remaster since it's basically just a graphics update via UE5. Still insane that it's got a larger file size than Star Citizen.
This is supposed to be the edgy mature club
It's supposed to be the edgy fucking planet.
Neon is known for being one of the most anarchic places in the Settled Systems.
Every vice imaginable can be found on Neon. And the Astral Lounge is the heart of it all.
There's a hallucinogenic drug that's super illegal everywhere for no clear reason, that you can do legally in one place, and that's it. You can't gamble, you can drop space acid and look at dancers. Should have just not bothered with it if they couldn't deliver anything.
oblivion was the pinnacle of consoles basically. they had all the high end voice actors. then 3 years later bioware did it with ass effect
But honestly, expecting Bethesda to still make "deep RPGs" is like expecting McDonald's to open a five-star French restaurant.
Bethesda never made deep RPGs to begin with, no idea why people ever assumed so.
It's a game about multiverse travel and yet does nothing with it and is even more strict about player choice despite the multiverse angle
I still consider GELFs to be aliens
What the fuck is punk about NASA? Working for the establishment let alone the Feds is like the exact opposite of punk, shouldn't it be Nasacore or something
What are you smoking, it's by far one of the most successful games of the generation.
Bethesda will never make a pure RPG game until we get a choice to NOT be the main character. Sure you can just not do the main quest but then you never fight dragons.
ship registration system that completely nullifies piracy as a viable income stream
This is a side effect of how they set things up where there would literally be no way to balance the economy and then didn't try very hard to fix it. I have no idea how you balance a game where you have spaceships and single sandwiches coming out of the same budget, but this issue should have come up before they wrote a single line of code.
The only people who hate starfield openly consume garbage woke slop like avowed or AC shadows. Pretty much nobody worth listening to.
Cope tranny. You lost.
nooo that's not punk
So it's refusing to conform to the rules for what punk is?
Because it's an incoherent boring shit of a game? There's nothing to get stuck into, no meaningful progression whatsoever.
If starfield failed then every game released in the past 2 years failed too because the numbers it got is still higher than most everything else released in the past 5 years. How's dragon's dogma 2 doing?
Been a while since a "Starfield sucks amirite" thread got more than 15 replies before dying. Is this because the Oblivion Remaster didn't fall on its face and now the default is to try to pull this narrative back up from the grave since too many people are happy with Bethesda?
With U5 it's more of a graphic downgrade. Murdered the contrast, colors, made every npc even more hideous, all women look like they're +60yo, and like you said... 120GB for the privilege of running oblivion with none of the mods, and with terrible optimization.
What a steal woow! And yet we get 24/7 shill threads about this shit EXACTLY like when saarfield came out fuck this place.
Bethesda has been doing since the beginning though
I'd rather see more passionate games like Starfield than the soulless safe slop that the industry makes nowadays. They took a risk on doing something new, it didnt appeal to everyone and that's okay.
fallout and tes are hard to fuck up entirely cause they sit on lore created by people who arent entirely hacks
The depressing thing is you do this for free.
I talk about fun video games on Anon Babble, you waste your life shitting on games nobody cares. We are not the same.
They really thought Nasapunk was a cool theme when people like aliens in their space game.
complacency. The worst part is knowing there were a lot of people on the team who knew what it should have been and were overruled.
Not fighting dragons is good tradeoff for not being the main character.
Also, we weren't the main character in Oblivion.
Open world space sims will never match people's expectations.
Expanse was overall good and the weakest parts were the alien bits. But it had a lot of decent intrigue, characters, and political conflict; and Bethesda hasn't been able to write at the level since Morrowind.
they were just hoping to get free publicity with all the mods
starfield ends up not even having a wiki fleshed out enough to look up key plot points on
I enjoyed Starfield despite it's flaws. The exploration isnt as good as their previous games but that's also because of the design of the setting itself where there's quite easily nothing to see or do in space itself. If you look at other space games, they themselves also struggle to fill space up with enough interesting content to do, either they make it a theme park or just have one interesting thing in a sea of nothing. Overall, it's a game that's incredibly fun to play and drops you into an interesting universe where you can walk and talk to people instead of just being stuck on your ship permanently. There's really no other competition out there and star citizen isnt going to be complete any time soon.
Extremely dull world and setting. I don't mean just the empty planets, but the story and world itself is fundamentally lame and takes forever to 'click', which it rarely does. The faction conflict itself is very uninteresting.
The edgeless Neon club with the dancing teletubbies pretty much sums up just how dorky the whole experience feels.
Mom walks in
The faction conflict itself is very uninteresting.
Honestly, they should have just done a Skyrim retread and set it during the war.
yeah don't get me wrong, piracy is still like 50% of my playtime and i just eat the massive registration costs for the minimal profit, but i agree they could've handled it better. IIRC there's a paid 'creation' mod out there that adds a chop shop sort of thing to the crimson fleet that allows you to sell without registering, but i'll be damned if i'm paying for a mod kek
God there's a writing 101 quote I'm going to rejigger for Starfield
"Is this the most interesting part of this setting's history and if not, why aren't you showing us that?"
I'm actually laughing now that I realize just how little the main plot of Starfield matters in the setting.
no aliens is gay, imagine mass effect without human lusting aliens like Tali.
I played it recently and went out to see what they expect out of players. I clicked on a random planet in a random system and landed there. The planet had water and argon or something. I then killed a small amount of bandits randomly hanging out in space and then went into a cave. Inside was iron, which you need to start a base.
This is where I got stuck. Do you keep doing their content or do you make a base? The only other element in the gen was water, the wiki listed it as an advanced crafting material but that's not right. You can take the water and purify it and then sell it for more money. Just a fucking moisture farmer on a rock hanging out I guess.
You could maybe make the argument that the point is to invest in a ship, but you only need the ship to carry your ass places to sell your junk which you then have nothing to invest in. I get they tried to appeal to fallout 4 settlement enjoys but it has none of the crafting features that fallout has. I guess they were just hoping people would make a mod for that?
"Is this the most interesting part of this setting's history and if not, why aren't you showing us that?"
This is the case with 99% of all vidya, books and media. They hint at some epic conflict or whatever but the story or game we're given is a sloppy footnote. At least Tolkien backed his shit up big time with the Silmarillion.
Who was this even for? Christian 40 year old moms? Usually tranny games are over sexualised. Starfield didn't even know who it was supposed to be appealing it. It's one of the worst games ever made. That Neon planet is like Fisher Price cyberpunk.
Literally boomer aged white men. They're the only generation that still finds space interesting.
Bad writing, Skyrim and Fallout 4 had bad writing but it had the story foundation build off the back of better writers to negate it
Basically nonexistent exploration, this is a huge issue, nothing can be found organically and the player is pretty much bored 90% of the time. Usually while doing quests you run into new sidequests and so, picking planet and then load there doesn't allow that
Quests, this was Bethesda at their worst, the mission are really boring especially the main one. They were all so painful generic and linear too.
The use of "generic NPCs", Bethesda have use this before somewhat sparingly in the past. But here they populate most of the cities, you can't talk to them or interact with them at all. Not only that they are insanely low quality and have been the target of most of Starfield's ridicule
1-to-1 copy and pasted enemy dungeons, dumbest worst shit ever, they do not even try to mix up the layout, loot locations, enemy placements nothing, and they don't even have that many to choose out of so you will find the same place a couple of times within just a few hours of exploring. (MAIN STORY DUNGEONS ARE REPEATED WTF) even unique random encounters in space are repeated, fucking lame
NPCs are not dynamic at all, they do not have schedules and they do not have lives. The will stand at the same place 24/7. NPCs will never interact with hostiles. You will pretty never see organic battles.
Catered content is drowned out by sheer random generation, how the fuck do you find quests?, in the like four cities I guess, are there actual quests you can find outside of the main four cities?, yes actually, good luck with that when there are 1000 places with fucking nothing on them
There's still more I can complain about but pretty much everything in this game is just so half-baked
It's almost shocking just how bad it is. It's like they were sitting around masturbating 18 months prior to launch and had to start PREproduction
It's absolutely baffling because this is supposedly the game Todd always wanted to make. Either he's lying or he failed. I'm not a Todd dickrider or hater but this game was nobody's magnum opus
and set it during the war.
Exactly. I hate how the faction conflict is hardly a conflict. Both sides feel very morally similar and equivalent, with no real ideological or philosophical tension or blemishes.
I was expecting something somehwat 'deep' with a fairly brutal space nation that's ostensibly liberal and some radical confederate secessionists, but the reality is it's just a few good ol' space cowboys being, most of the time, chummy with the space UN.
I talk about fun video games on Anon Babble
No you're not. You're running damage control for a game not even the people who made it care about anymore.
Gamers will piss and shit and scream in denial, but the truth is people got hard-filtered by the hard scifi aesthetic (even if they did compromise it in a few places).
B-b-but Kerbel/Space Engineers/Elite Dangerous
All extremely niche games enjoyed by an enthusiast audience and played by absolutely no one else. Yes, Bethesda could and should have done more to make Starfield the engineering-oriented survival sim this audience wanted but you can hardly blame them for trying to shift the focus elsewhere. The market is too small. Less than 10% of you actually play these games.
B-b-but Mass Effect/Cyberpunk
Not hard scifi in the slighest.
B-b-but Prey/Alien Isolation
Had the exact same tepid response as Starfield, it took them years to become cult classics.
Meanwhile. Every. Single. Goddamn. Medieval. Fantasy. RPG. does crazy numbers and receives mass acclaim. Including a remaster of one of Bethesda's own games, Oblivion, which is objectively mechanically simpler game. It's incredibly obvious what's going on, and the mass denial from gamers is why game devs refuse to speak to any of you.
It's like modern writers are scared of conflict
Two major factions that can barely tolerate each other and are a single kinetic impact away from interstellar war is FAR more interesting than two milquetoast factions that have a mutual non-expansion pact so people just kind of sit around and do nothing.
You sound like you havent played the game.
It's absolutely baffling because this is supposedly the game Todd always wanted to make.
That's what I thought, which I why I was genuinely pissed at this pile of shit game. It's the worst vanilla game experience of any Bethesda game by a mile, they're so detatched from the playerbase they obviously thought they could shart out the bare minimum canvass of a game and modders would fix the rest but overlooked the fact there has to be SOMETHING there in the first place to inspire a modding community
boring even if you're looking for the heckin bethesdajank thing
I blame the insistence on catering to the LCD and the writers just being totally uninspired or filtered by committee to be utterly generic. You want a couple of schizoid crackheads around to keep things interesting, and also a couple of genuinely great character writers. It's not easy but the industry seems to struggle with this stuff more and more these days.
Scifi just isnt in vogue anymore, people overwhelmingly prefer fantasy because they can make believe some fantasy board and sword story about saving the princess while having low level racism with other races. Meanwhile scifi is stuck in either being too edgy and cynical due to the current mental state of humanity hating advancements on space travel or being too whimsical and safe. Starfield tries to straddle the line between trying to be safe and edgy and most people who arent willing to dig down deep into it's setting or lore because they're not used to scifi concepts just get turned off and quit.
Is there anything actually interesting in Starfield lore, though?
I have for far too long then it deserved, in denial that the game could be this disappointing. Only saving grace was not paying full price for it when it came out and just played it on gamepass instead
Bethesda's formula only works on handcrafted worlds, the one thing starfield is not.
No, but they've left plenty of missing spots in the lore for something interesting to go.
i've played Elite Dangerous off and on basically since it came out and I will say bethesda trying to get an audience from that kind of crowd was just a mistake
it's not even a filtering thing it's just the people wanting that type of space autism is a very small group
no man's sky was probably the most successful but that game is way more akin to minecraft than anything
the game isn't even interesting as a disaster, nor is the writing interesting for being so bad and cringe. it's just boring. the whole thing is fucking so boring. it's an absolute fucking sadness that so many hours were put into making this bland soulless trash
yea lets take a setting with limitless potential then put it on our senile engine
cars? not with a measly budget of 400 million, nope no can do
It's just complete wokeslop. The setting is boring as fuck.
What a load of nonsense. Sci-fi stuff sells just fine.
They had to milk Obsidian with a jeet demaster to make up for Shartfield's losses. But yeah, Bethesda is doing great.
senile engine
the engine isnt the reason why quests are shit or mediocre combat
I tried three different times to get into Starfield and I cant do it. For being a huge open space game, they made wandering completely ass and pointless.
Despite having a way bigger budget, way better graphics, and way better gunplay, Starfield managed to get completely mogged by No Man's Sky in every way that matters.
The problem isn't that people don't like science fiction the problem is Starfield is incredibly boring science fiction. We just saw Dune break the box office. It's an issue with Starfield not the genre.
*and just to be clear I'm 99% talking about the "look at how many planets we have" bs that they were trying to market it with
that was an insta red flag for me having played ED bc that's what turns off most casuals to ED when they open the galaxy map for the first time. A space RPG can work, even an open world one but you have to make it smaller scale and made with care
Starfield threads of all types bombed for months here
Starfield thread gets 200+ replies seething about its existence
They're getting ready to announced an update aren't they? Finally. Or the 3 or 4 Starfield sucks people/schizos or bots are back after Anon Babble died for a little over a week. Either way, cool to see Starfield still living rent free in people's minds.
cope
Starfield emphasizes the worst fucking aspect of Open World games, and that's empty space between points of interest that ultimately make you wish for a more condensed game world, except they magnified it into planets, and galaxies.
In the TES and Fallout games it's JUST RIGHT because the world is well populated, there are lots of random events along the roads, and hand-staged props worth investigating, like something as simple as some teddy bears set up next to the road, or story-telling skeletons, or a bag of jewels at the base of a tree, etc etc.
Imagine traveling between destinations in Oblivion, except multiply the distance you need to travel by like, 30 times, fill it with nothing of interest, and when you reach your destination, you're presented with a large hole in the ground.
To be fair most starfield threads since launch have been made by a handful of shitposters with the intelligence of toddlers.
bad music unironically.
No pip boy
elite dangerous has double the players that shartfield has right now and that game had to be literally pulled out of the grave by Frontier by starting to have timed exclusive ships for real money
Because Todd Howard has fallen to the dark side.
BGS will never make another good game again.
I can dislike what modern Obsidian and modern Bethesda have both become.
damn, is it that fucking bad?
Starfield: 24 hour peak of 4.4k
Oblivion (2009): 24 hor peak of 4.5k
LOL
I'd say since a little bit before launch, but your still right.
elite dangerous had 5.9k when I posted that and that's the low bc it's euro sleepy time which is most of that game's playerbase
I cannot imagine still crying about the Creation Engine in the era of UE5 slop.
they can both be terrible and they are
anyone who bitches about the engine is a retard, the engines are not the reason why things suck, its 100% on the devs being dogshit with their own tools
So what's terrible about the Creation Engine.
Not even Skyrim in 2011 had that many loading screens. What the hell did they thought was going to happen?
Meds. Now.
He’s legit gay. Fake anti-“woke” grifter. Lmk when he calls out the problem. None of these anti-woke grifters mention where things like DEI, anti-straight, anti-white, anti-Christian, LGBTQ, BLM comes from. They suspiciously never NOTICE. Hmmmm
Ignoring the 95% of the game that is literally barren wasteland the other 5% is embarrassingly awful """quests""" that are genuinely less interesting than a world of warcraft fetch quest from 2004. Starfield is the most aggressively boring game I have ever played. Nothing about it is interesting, nothing has any of kind of grit, edge or substance. I'd call it fast food slop but at least that has some flavour. Starfield is gruel. Its worse than paint by numbers ubislop. The characters are awful, the world is awful, the NPCs are awful, the gameplay is awful, the story and writing are awful, the engine is awful. It is one of the worst games I ever played. It's one saving grace is that it is functional. On a basic level it is playable and doesn't crash and that is the nicest thing I can say about it.
I cannot believe I wasted 40 fucking hours of my life playing this shit.
I hoped for Fallout NV in space with updated gameplay/graphics, i feared for Fallout 4 in space
Bethesda managed to not only make a game worse than FO4 they somehow managed to straight up downgrade a bunch of basic features
Instead of mentioning why Starfield is shit I'm going to just highlight everything that was in Fallout 4 that is missing in Starfield:
Looting (the interaction with the crafting system was cut and you can't pick up everything from enemies it's now MMO-style item drops)
Crafting (completely useless system now)
Enemy variety
Dungeons (25 vs +200)
AI (a lot of options were removed, e.g: no more potshots if you're out of range and the AI is unable to handle the player's new movement)
Dungeon design (Not only is it worse but it has effect on the AI, in FO4 locations were designed around the combat while in Starfield everything is an open area with boxes for cover like it's CoD)
Choices in quests (Specifically gameplay-related choices, already limited in FO4 compared to it's abundance in the other Fallout games it got removed altogether in Starfield)
Settlements (too long to go into)
World interactions (Starfield is completely static, no random events outside of Space and no factions fighting each other)
Melee (not just bad but everything shares the same animation)
weapon variety (basic math)
voiced protagonist (this was a good thing but it still should result in more resources for Starfield compared to FO4)
Dynamic gameplay (hard to fully explain this but for example there is no Institute teleporter, Brotherhood Vertibirds, travelling merchants, multi stage quests like the silver shroud random encounter, the credit card scammer that show up multiple times, that drug deal quest in Diamond City that results in 2-3 extra events in the world, etc)
Characters (something you might not have noticed, try to recall all the named NPCs you remember from both games)
That's not all btw, I'm hitting the character limit so I'll stop
fo4 at least had a few individual good quests
All the good writers at Bethesda left years ago, Starfield is Bethesda creating a new universe where they aren't relying on established lore created by people with talent. Also, they picked the worst fucking setting you can pick as a bad writer: Hard sci-fi. Star Wars can get away with shit writer because its about pulpy fantasy fun. Starfield doesn't have that luxury. (Yes I know there's influence from stuff like Firefly but like most things in Starfield ideas are half-assed and not commited to)
To clarify my post a bit, I'm NOT critiquing the game, I'm not talking about the lack of worldbuilding, the awful dialogue and writing so stupid chatGPT has issues with it, the 2005-tier shooter gameplay, the hours of loading screens or the forced fast travel
This is just a list of things that exists in a previous Bethesda game that were cut in Starfield
Where did all the effort they saved go? Why are the 90% less dungeons AND those dungeons are worse?
Why is Starfield an objectively (in terms of metrics) worse game with extra dev time and more resources?
They didn't make Skyrim in space, if they did we wouldn't be having this conversation, see my list
The expectation wasn't a deep RPG, it was Fallout/Skyrim in space
Starfield somehow failed to meet that low bar
12 million "players" which includes people that clicked on it on gamepass and didn't even bother to install it
Fallout 4 SOLD 12 million in 6 months when the total gaming market was IIRC half the size it's now
the power of graphicsfag consoomerism would make it all worth it and they were right as this shit sold extremely well despite barely running on anyones machines.
Bethesdas writing had always been dogshit but starfield is their first game where actual highschoolers, if not middle schoolers, could have done a better job. I usually see shit writing and think wow that's bad but starfields is so bad it makes you sit back and think Jesus fucking christ a grown ass adult, probably some 40 year old, wrote this shit. It is appalling that someone got paid for this shit. It would have been a better game is chatGPT wrote it.
It was all of Bethesda's worst trends dialed up to eleven and the setting was too fucking bland to hide the sheer mediocrity this time. Like as bad as Fallout 4 was in a lot of regards at least it was still Fallout and had most of the cool shit people like about that setting. Starfield lacks any sort of identity, it doesn't know whether it wants to be hard scifi or something lighter so it's stuck in this shitty middle ground without the appeal of either of those options. They either needed to go full Expanse or full Dune. Instead it's "grounded" in all the worst ways way it has none of the fun stuff nor is it taken seriously enough to enjoy it on that front.
It just needed to have the 10 races with unique abilities/skills formula and be a Space Opera instead of the Nasapunk shit they went with. Mass Effect but just with the freedom of a Bethesda RPG would have been a massive fucking hit.
It's just the meme usage of punk like solarpunk or dieselpunk where the punk doesn't really mean anything.
But people preferring the old game to new game proves us right
Seems to be the case. They bitch about the engine but can't give any reasons as to why the engine is bad.
a game so bland that the only reason anyone knows that it has companions is because of the sarah OH NO NO NO meme image
Gamepass users are not sales microsoftfag
if they wanted to do a "nasapunk" aesthetic (which is really not a thing) they should have just made it look like the movie Gattaca
nasacore is just nasa's white/red/black/gold equipment colorscheme with lots of little hajime katoki labels. 100% clean practical spacefaring equipment.
nasapunk is what happens to that equipment 50 or 100 years after it's arrived where it needed to go and used and repurposed endless times. it's a cool thought but not one starfield really gets very well.
the early concept art was pretty spot on but somewhere along the line the game just imploded
It was enough of a success that Bethesda learned nothing from the games faults
It was fairly successful, sure, but even a giant retard like Todd should see the alarm bells ringing at this point. Skyrim was their last meteoric hit that was also a critical darling and everything after has been a very noticeable decline. The fact that Starfield isn't getting much DLC is clue enough that they know on some level that they fucked up which explains why they aren't devoting nearly as many resources like their past games for post-release support.
It didn't. It's even getting an extra DLC that wasn't even planned.
it definitely does as the "punk" denotes "low life" while whatever prefix you place in-front denotes the prominent aesthetic or theme. so like how cyberpunk denotes "high tech" and "low life". i do agree that the use of the term "nasapunk" really does not make any sense, though.
what the fuck are you saying im not defending this fucking but the game is objectively quite successful and has had a positive response all around. i think its fucking shit personally its just objectively true.
getting much DLC
Even FO76 is getting dev time, for comparison.
Just got raids
Playable Ghouls added
Fishing recently
Bethesda sees investment of resources into FO76 as more worthwhile than Starfield.
i think way too many people got a say in it, at least for the aesthetics part. I've seen some of that concept art and it is good, but some suit probably was in Todd's ear saying "but we need the Scam Citizen/Elite Dangerous audience" or something. It's a really incongruous hodgepodge that ends up being crap
the writing was obviously Emil being a retard who spends too much time reading twitter replies
single player game that doesn't have micros like a multiplayer game
SuperData estimated that, as of the end of 2018, Fallout 76 had sold 1.4 million digital copies.[99] In November 2021, Todd Howard revealed the game had 11 million players in total.[100] In March 2024, the game had 17 million players.[101] The following month, following the release of the Amazon Prime Fallout television series, Fallout 76's player count reached an all-time high six years after its release, with a million people logging in within a single day.[102]
Fallout Shelter
On the day of its release, Fallout Shelter became the third-highest-grossing game in the iOS App Store.[56] By July 16, 2015, two weeks after release, the game earned $5.1 million (equivalent to about $6.8M in 2024) in microtransaction sales.[62] The game grossed $100 million (~$118 million in 2023) in lifetime revenue by June 2019.[63]
TES Blades
Blades was a commercial success. Within one week of the game's early access launch, it had exceeded 1 million downloads on the iOS platform, with the associated revenue reaching close to $500,000. Within the first month of early access release, the game had generated revenue exceeding $1.5 million on the iOS platform with player spending reaching close to $50,000 per day.[28]
ESO
In February 2017, it was announced that the game had sold over 8.5 million units and had around one million monthly active players.[103][104] In June 2017, it was announced the game had over 10 million players since release, and around 2.5 million monthly active players.[105] In June 2019, it was announced that the game had reached 13.5 million players lifetime.[106] As of January 2020, over 15 million units had been sold.[107][108] Pete Hines called The Elder Scrolls Online the most successful Bethesda game from 2017 to 2021.[109] By 2024, the game had generated $2 billion in revenue.[110]
Microtransactions print money
Starfield is pure NASApunk kino
Low IQ plebs got filtered by this game
Ebonheart pact
I still don't get how they made a faction of the three races that canonically hate each other the most. Might as well have added Falmer in for good measure.
kek the Apollo astronauts didn't go to the moon for entertainment they were on a fucking mission. If Bethesda can recreate the stakes and glory of traveling to an untouched extraterrestrial rock I will gladly play it. But as of now it's just a loading screen.
What really pissed me off in terms of the Nasapunk claims was that those suits very famously had separate gloves pieces, so why the fuck did they cut down so absurdly on equipment slots, especially when they seem to at the same time want their games to be more about loot
gamepass users are not sales microsoftfag
o why the fuck did they cut down so absurdly on equipment slots
the same reason why the game has very little gore, they wanted it to be different from fallout 4
sends AI jeets out to damage control the masses
gets memed into oblivion
Lol
Lmao
The astronauts landed on an actual moon
It was decades of research and studies that lead to this moment in real life.
Starfield is a FUCKIN VIDEOGAME! I gain nothing from landing on an empty chunk of polygons with textures and a skybox!
It's wild that even the people who made fallout 4 or skyrim not understand that why people love these games even with its dogs shit rpg elements was the little details and quests in random caves and buildings
Grifting chudcels is the easiet shit ever
You can look like a rotten potato and still make bank
What is Bethesderp even fucking doing over there?
Collecting checks and waiting for the right time to leap off with their golden parachutes. Their company at its peak was worth the equivalent of a second world nation's military budget. Whoever won that deal will be sitting pretty for the next few centuries with capital like that to play around with.
Only homosexuals care about any of that shit.
todd is retiring after tes6 he will be living the good life on a beach watching as whoever he hands the company off to runs it into the ground
By now it's not even about sold copies anymore. People aren't even playing it on gamepass.
But yeah Starfield is just extremely bad at being a Bethesda game.
be in base
sort out gear and grab what you need
open map and pick location or quest
head out
2 minutes later something to fight
2 minutes later something to explore
2 minutes later something to interact with
2 hours later you completed 2 quests
explored 1 dungeon
looted 2 new pieces of gear
encountered a new companion
now you are at your target location to do what you actually wanted to do
do the thing
you've played the game for 4 hours and return to your base
do some maintenance, eat, sleep, head out again
Steps 5 to 11 Bethesda just kinda forgot to implement. You still open your map but the whole emergent gameplay thing is just not there. You simply fast travel directly to where you want to go and do what you wanted to do. There is nothing to explore and there is nothing to find. Empty abandoned outposts and camps.
And the game has a fucking amazing framework of systems and mechanics. The whole ship building is top notch but it lacks depth, same with the outpost building. There is simply no reason to do it because it's all cosmetic. It doesn't open anything new. Todd he said he didn't want to force the player to do something that wasn't fun. But he ended with a game that doesn't force the player to do anything at all. So unless the player finds the act of doing something in and of itself fun there is no reason to do it.
For example outpost building. If that would unlock new quest lines or special gear or abilities players would actually build them. Or if they served as checkpoints to restock and refuel on longer trips or to off load/sell valuable cargo. Just an answer to question "what does it do?" would be good.
i haven't played starfield but your description of basebuilding exactly describes why I have never been able to get into NMS despite like 5 tries bc it's exactly the same shit in that game
build a base because... JUST BECAUSE IT'S THERE OKAY
Because developers don't want to tie major content to optional mechanics. They looked at the bases people built in Fallout 4 and thought the same players would dive into Starfield. But failed to realize that it worked for Fallout because players were giving NPCs a home in a wasteland.
.
It failed in a cultural point of view, nobody is going to talk about this game past it sucking ass. Atleast in Bethesdas other games they sucked ass but they were also fun
I haven't played a single one of those games. lol
Any "vanilla" mods essential before a first playthrough? I'm talking bug fix mods or whatever. Those are usually the only mods I install for my first playthrough with Bethesda games.
Fpbp
There's literally a side quest about space Jews securing their legacy and bloodline while kvetching about being victims
Bethesda is pozzed and kiked
Todd's magnum opus btw
Kill yourself, you greasy dago cunt.
it’s actually one of the most daring and misunderstood games in years
Fuck off, you fat faggot. 'erm, ackchually-'
NO! Everything about starfield is utterly pathetic!
NPCs are not dynamic at all, they do not have schedules and they do not have lives. The will stand at the same place 24/7. NPCs will never interact with hostiles. You will pretty never see organic battles.
that surprises me if true, that's pretty old tech by this point
The only person at Bethesda who had any idea what Starfield was SUPPOSED to be was Todd, I think. Anyway after Todd vaguely described the kind of game he wanted to Emil, Todd went back to his office to do paperwork (Todd hasn't done devwork since the Morrowind era, and maybe not even back then), so Emil punted Starfield off to Microsoft's 10000 Indians who had to no idea what they were supposed to be doing so they made stupid pointless assets like blue folders and office staplers. Starfield was genuinely the most soulless game I've played in recent memory. It clearly had no vision nor leadership.
It's true
I can’t decide which is worse, the dialogue choices in starfield or fallout 4’s press the 1 word option and hope the awful voice acted protag says vaguely what you are expecting thing
It’s a close race and both are absolutely shit. Fo4 has more funny moments caused by the bad voice acting tho wheras starfield is more cringe and boring
