They worked smart instead of hard.
Used Unreal Engine and a bunch of free/cheap assets for world creation. Used lighting to make areas distinct. Most of the outsourcing was for music and actors, the actual game dev was in house and by a bunch of people who had experience making assets quick in UE.
Meanwhile XV created its own engine, all the assets were either made by the team or outsourced to production sweatshops, the game was in dev hell due to feature creep and no clear direction, and they were constantly adding and removing content to coordinate with several related projects.
I constantly buy games and just don't play them cause I'm always keeping myself busy with music. I need to stop wasting money, I'm too stubborn to return anything. The problem isn't even the game, I just get bored of gaming quickly.
They got funded by MS and Netease, so they're already out of the red.
Verso is the "right" choice but I wish it didn't involve everyone dying. They're creations of those from the real world but they still think and feel

this is stupid. there's probably more exploration in the first couple dungeons than most other RPGs these days.
It was made by a relatively small team without a 20 million dollar marketing budget and it sold better than games that cost a billion dollars.
The closest thing to anything kiked in the game is a funny black guy character who is set up as though he's going to be a party member and is the third named character to die onscreen. The women are all hot and not cunts, the world is melancholy and beautiful, it feels like The Night Land if it were a pastel painting instead of Angloid clinical depression. It's the best turn-based RPG made in the last two decades.

Yeah, I usually don't like it when they go for artsy-fartsy "bad" or bittersweet endings but given their very obvious influences of FF IX and FF Tactics Advance it's fitting, especially because all the implications go way beyond what was in those games. The Maelle ending isn't just her lying to herself, she goes full Omelas on the remains of original Verso's child soul and then forcibly recreates his facsimile against his will.

Underrail, Divinity: OS and Black Souls 2 are better tbdesu. But yeah, the game's fantastic, all my gripes are fairly minor - the animations are somewhat clunky, Verso's VA feels noticeably worse than Gustave, sometimes the lighting feels too light or too dark. But overall it's my personal GOTY so far.

The scene isn't emotional at all, neither of the characters have any sort of interesting characterization written for them, there's literally nothing interesting going on in general, it's just the music trying to convince you that what you're seeing is emotional or grand in any way.
