What did you think of it?
What did you think of it?
I thought the purple cat woman was pretty sexy
It's peak, and a good argument for why games don't have to be long to be good. The only problem is it's too easy and if you switch it to one of the difficulties they added via update the enemies get gorillions of HP and it's no fun.
It was fun, although I probably appreciated it more than some because I had nostalgia from playing the original on emulator as a young lad
they released the OG along with the remake, right?
while I don't find SD3 challenging anymore after playing it 20 times, it's still a challenging game the first few times before you really figure out the game
would you say the collection is more worth it than this remake?
Brilliant update into 3d. A little too kawaii uguu and I wish they wouldn't lean so hard into it but after Visions it seems like that's the style they want for the series. Bleh.
Good music
Angela and Riesz sexo
It's neat that the whole world felt involved in the game's events
Didn't care for anything else about it
Pretty good. Nothing jaw-dropping but it's one of the best remakes out there in terms of how much they were willing to preserve.
Gameplay was okay but locking custom class to postgame was retarded. The seed/crystal system was clearly an unfinished mechanic. The plot fucking sucked. Great visuals and music.
Solid 6/10. Not bad, but blatantly unfinished.
My bad, I didn't look at the OP close enough and thought it was Visions of Mana. I will now leave the thread in shame.
I'd have played it if they allowed co-op like the original Seiken Densetsu 3 on SNES. I wound up playing SoM and SD3 again on emulator with my girlfriend, had a lot of fun. Pity about Trials foregoing that
The SFC original?
Never liked it as much as Secret of Mana or even Evermore.
its okay anon, i don't know much about the series as a whole but have been wondering if it's worth dipping into
Choosing the party was cool, but the unfocused fragmented story fell flat because of it. I prefered the plot in Visions.
Once the Benevodon hunt starts it gets really repetitive, both in progression and enemy variety. I want to fuck Angela/10
Kevin sexo.
I love Riesz!
I'm not ashamed to admit it!
Let me guess...you played in japanese?
youtube.com
Yeah, I can't believe I haven't heard that yet lmao
Actually faithful remake with sexo character designs.
I don't think it'll appeal much to people who didn't play the original but it was definitely a nice and unexpected treat for those of us who did.
What are they actually talking about here.
I enjoy the voice acting because I can tell they told Kevin to sound like a caveman and the girls like retards meanwhile you have the gay ghostship ghost be some guy doing his normal gay accent.
Trials thread?
Trials thread.
Pretty much what i thought a "3D SD3" would be like back when i imagined it back when i was like 12 and had just finished the original on an emulator. Put the studio that made it on my radar which made me give the RS2 remake a chance which equally did not disappoint, looking forward to their next project whatever it is because i think the have a good track record on making worthwhile budget remakes now with a good sense of priority (GRAFIX aren't the focus) and how to implement additional content while keeping the spirit intact.
Easily mogged many games and "remakes" with 3 times the monetary cost for me.
I love my dumb bee wife
youtube.com
the zest elemental
holy fucking shit. did they hire special need teens as VAs?
Mixed opinion. On the one hand, you can't actually improve the graphics or music from the original. And it doesn't.
On the other hand, SD3/Trials of Mana is kind of a borderline bad game. The sort of game that would actually benefit from a remake. And it does play better in the remake.
The game's voice acting clearly didn't have any good direction for most of it.
Duran just sounds....there.
Angela is mostly fine and hammy, but then you have moments like that video.
Hawkeye is the only one who sounds fine mostly throughout.
Riesz sounds really good 20% of the time, then really bad and/or awkward like 80% of the time. Its weird since you know Brittany Cox knows what she's doing so its weird that happened here.
Kevin is....something. By far the worst one of the main crew.
Charlotte for what its worth, did well enough with the Elmer Fudd shtick. YMMV.
EN Angela actually talks vaguely like an authentic human being but yeah the rest of the EN cast is laughably bad.
Riesz is Brittany Cox (Ingrid, Fischl), so its weird why she sounded super awkward here.
What's with this franchise and weird english VA?
In the new one the dragon girl sounds like a hillbilly just because.
It was a good remake, the kind of game I wanted FF7R to be.
It's pretty rare that SE throws any money at dubs
Careena's dub at least makes sense since she speaks kansai, the southern accent just contrasts with her design
is there any reason to play it over the original? the 3D graphics look like complete ass. are there changes that make such a downgrade worth it rather than just picking up collection of mana?
i dont think it looks bad, kinda reminds me of dragon quests art style
I thought there was only 3 games and then Visions, how the hell are there 8 games?
If you are just playing it for vibes, then sure, just play the original.
There's plenty of reasons as the original having very long load times, insanely clunky ability usage, useless partners (picking multiple casters is an actual noob trap because ai won't cast spells).
Just because
Careena (and all of the other dragons who ignore the rules) for whatever reason in Japan decided to speak kansai-ben. She should sound "off"
Pretty sure Careena has the equivalent of a southern hick accent in japan.
Not a bad thing, its charming since it was done well in VOM.
The VAs aren't the problem. The problem is that the recording was likely rushed and done out of context.
Was Visions any good compared to this one? Feels like literally no one even remembered it when it finally came out.
This is near the beginning of the game where your first two characters join each other (you get to choose a party of 3 when you start the game, but you don't join up with the second and third character until later). If Kevin is the party leader, that means Riesz's intro was just before this. The party members all have a little banter the first time you enter each new zone.
I liked Visions more personally, but it dropped the ball hard on a few things, postgame included.
Visions is basically Seiken Densetsu 5 in all but name, even if its not officially labeled as such.
Final Fantasy Adventure/Adventures of Mana (SD)
Secret (SD2)
Trials (SD3)
Dawn (SD4)
Visions
Then you have games that are seiken densetsu but technically arent main numbered series.
Legend
Children
Sword is a GBA remake/reimagining of Final Fantasy Adventure.
Heroes of Mana is a DS prequel to Trials of mana.
Circle, Rise, and Echoes of Mana are Gachashit that failed. Circle is the one that had all those pic related pictures of characters from the series.
Im not exactly sure what Friends of Mana was or what it was supposed to be.
Visions is fine although the plot filters a lot of people because the entire point is dealing with stages of grief.
If Netease didn't shut down Ouka day 1, they could have easily fixed the problems by now.
I liked remake more than Visions, but Visions was a solid 7/8 game overall.
Pretty decent, which makes it much better than most garbage released nowadays.
But it was doomed before it even released. It was released right after Wukong came out so the majority gave 0 shits about this, but the most damning was the studio that made the game was shut down a week before it even released. Most people didnt even know it came out when it did.
Meanwhile, Xeen - the studio that made the Trials remake - earned enough trust from Square Enix to do a full-fledged Romancing Saga 2 remake, and everybody seems to love that game. Can't blame them for trying to move up in the world, I guess.
VoM *is* Seiken Densetsu 5, the 5 is added to the title in the japanese title screen after you beat the game once.
oh it does?
well good then.
fun but too easy even on hardest difficulty.
I didn't play it because it's remake. Visions was good.
I don't remember it that well but I do remember enjoying it. I played it about 20 years ago.
Oh, and I guess to elaborate a little further:
Kevin is surprised that Riesz has been traveling alone, remarking it must be hard for her
Riesz states that she is a highly ranked guard among her people and skilled with various weapons, implying that it's no trouble
With Kevin's physical strength and Riesz's skill, they should make a good team
Kevin gets slightly emotional at the idea of having a companion again, after he was tricked into killing his pet wolf-pup in his father's attempt to toughen him up.
Yes I know the wolf-pup isn't really dead, I've beat the game with every character and done all 3 villains.
Just finished Vision and it was a balance fiesta compared to more balanced Trial (and god The mage is op on this game).
i feel bad for the people not playing Morley or using anything else than the dagger, absolutly ridiculous skillset that break every boss and instakill anything and that just early game lol
8/10 good game, repetitive if you want to do a second playthrough tough, they should have made the 6 characters playable in the first run
the game is really easy so it doesn't really matter. I used Careena 90% of the time and breezed through it.
love that game
Yeah careena is also strong but Morley is really just cheat engine preinstalled in the game at this point
Going to play this for the first time soon, whats the best party to see everything in one go?
Its just Morleyfags being vocal because he gets a decent skillset early on and nothing in the game really threatens the player outside of the clouds and the bat boss.
Meanwhile basically everyone except for probably Julei has a brainless low effort setup that breaks the game in half that anyone can stumble into by accident. Hell, you can get Careena's strongest lance less than 5 minutes after she joins if you're good at platforming.
you won't see everything in one go because not choosing the other 3 characters means you don't see their stories
Good graphics but the game is too shallow.
Its impossible to see everything in go because it has three endings. If you want to minimize replays do
Angela/Duran + X
Kevin/Charlotte + X
Riesz/Hawkeye + X
Having all 6 characters travel together was probably the best part of the stage adaptation they did recently.
If you ever plan on doing no future mode you gotta bring charlotte.
As others have said, it's impossible to do everything in one playthrough. The game has 3 villains groups, but only one of them gets to be the main villain. Which one you end up with depends on which character you choose as your party leader. Each villain corresponds to one male and one female character, so you'll probably want to pick up the corresponding opposite sex character depending on who you choose as your party leader. See
It was nice, especially if you go into it for the characters. The designs are 10/10 and the banter was fun, even if botched by a shitty dub.
Agreed.
files.catbox.moe
Let me guess...you played in japanese?
I played the japanese rpg in japanese yes.
Charlotte is actually better off on the bench during No Future because you get the ability to inherit all of her useful passives like the one that prevents you from being one shot.
How was it? Couldnt watch it when it was live and ive no idea how to navigate their website to see a recording of it.
If you ever plan on doing no future mode you gotta bring charlotte.
You need her passive that prevents you from getting killed by leaving you with 1 HP. Combine that with the No Future exclusive skills and you can fight well enough without getting destroyed. The main problem there is your item limits being reduced so you can't recover easily.
I just want the slippers there anyway, after that its enough for me.
The wocawisation turned me off compwetewy.
So i didn't pway it.
I know people love the catlady design, but man if the regular human design doesnt make one diamonds
6 characters
Probably the best way to do an anime adaptation too. Then have the party be split on key plot points like all dudes on the ghost ship and all girls on the island to summon Vuscav for the beach episode.
Post your party makeup for key plot points for the anime Anon Babble
One of the few remakes that are actually sincere to the original game. Genuinely felt great to play all the way through. No, I did not use the english dub.
Unfortunately you needed to buy a ticket to watch the few times it was streamed live so I wasn't able to watch it either, but I did see a lot of positive reactions from Japanese fans in twitter and the actors all seemed to have tons of fun with it too.
They did confirm it will get a blu-ray release later down the line so there's high chances it gets dumped and posted online.
Julei has multiple brainless low effort setups if anything, parasol jump attack has absurd stagger and hitbox and every charged hammer attack is nuts
Amusingly the endgame spear doesn't even make Careena better than Morley using appropriate level daggers. Nobody's bad, but Morley's just absurd.
Careena has a more relevant problem with her lance classes where the main one you have access to for most of the game is mutually exclusive with Val's obvious best class. That and its inferior to her CS Burst build as Fire which can automatically end a number of fights including bosses in like a single button press.
I never played Val past the mantis so I can't really relate
You can get Careena's best fist too through multiple methods so on all my playthroughs base/water Careena was just a stopgap until fire anyway
Normalize
Stacy
Characters
In Fantasy
She's not even a real Stacy. She just wants a hug from mommy.
There is literally no reason to not leave Val in Duelist when its stronger than basically every other class he has for an exceedingly long time.
original game had co-op
remake doesn't
Visions doesn't implement it either
There's a reason Secret of Mana is still the GOAT
If you're actively playing him, I agree completely
My party was (Morley/Palamena) Careena Julei as soon as possible
Could've been one of the best jrpgs if they put ANY effort whatsoever into making the combat and character progression engaging from a gameplay perspective. The party member AI is literally broken and you have to adapt to it, in lieu of forming tactics. That's not a well designed, high quality product.
If that could be sorted out then what I think would be a banger game is taking the class progression in this and making a bigger game with more content and better battles, maybe like 20% or something modest, just to iterate on this and fulfill the potential of the system.
Real shame Neither put in online or co-op multiplayer.
Trials remake wouldve been super fun with it.
Rune Seer has functionally infinite MP and its pretty easy to accidentally be overlevel relative to enemies in VoM, especially when the exp formula gives you more exp on harder difficulties for whatever reason, so water vessel is free to Val/Careena. Its not until pretty late that Grand Diviner is worth it for her imo.
shes hot but her catform has more erotic posture
I suppose but its still weird that regular still has like no art at all.
well maybe if she bend her goods in a boss fight she would have more
As the others said, Careena is a fucking hick even in the japanese dub.
But she does bend the goods, in plot.
Hell even the trailer showed them goods off.
There's plenty of stacies in fanasy.
post some pics or tell me when
twials of mana!
Character progression
Not every game needs character history that has more drama than a soap opera. Sometimes, slapping a wizard's because he used magic is just enough to make things enjoyable.
Honestly Grand Diviner never really stuck out to me after getting the light vessel. Even then the earth vessel gives her more raw power, and is what you get immediately after water. Usually what I ended up gravitating towards was moon Morley, earth Palamena, dark Julei, fire Careena. Val would be either water or wind if I used him.
I played it recently and it had to be one of the most mid games I've ever touched. Boring story, uninteresting characters with zero chemistry, piss easy combat with little variety, repetitive as hell, uninspired environment design, flat and cringe inducing writing. It felt like a chore to play, never touching it again.
Light goes on Careena if you're not manually controlling her since Starlancer is the best buff support in the game and can easily use the same CS build setup that Fire Careena uses since she also wants to CS to help buff offenses.
Honestly, the game just boils down to Light Careena/Dark Julei and your DPS of choice. Outside of like the bat fight where Wind Careena memes him because she's immune to sleep which iirc stops his AI from using the drain move if she's the only person left.
To be honest if you didn't play the original there's not much to recommend it. It's not actively bad it's just kind of, yeah, mid. More of a nostalgia trip than anything else.
the music is good though
I love all the new Angela art that the SD3 remake brought. Best girl was always overshadowed by Risez.
Its a really great game, and a good remake of a great game. While you could sometimes feel the relatively smaller budget (at least in comparison to mega projects like your average Final Fantasy game they've become) it has an absurd amount of heart in it. It like a good remake, loves the fucking game its remaking with every ounce of its being and wanted to show the new generations why they love it.
Its so good in fact that I intend to get its sequel, Visions of Mana, one day.
PS, Angela is perhaps my favorite example of nuke mage I have ever had the pleasure of playing, she's so fucking OP, especially her max Dark form with that ancient curse spell.
Atrocious translation
Sincere to the original game
Just posting the best track of the game:
youtube.com
Way better than Visions, it's almost criminal to compare;
If you're going to complain about Charlotte, just know that -dechi as a speech quirk is something that only children do because they're incapable of saying words properly.
Stuff like Lumina/Benevodon/etc can be blamed by them deciding to stick with World of Mana translations from DS era.
why are people gassing up duelist? to my understanding, freezing people on hit isn't a very good reason to pick it over everything else to support your party with.
not that I play Val because i immediately mained Careena and later on Palamena, then Julei when I started enjoying the AI kick enemies around while i healslut at the back.
Duelist has an absurd amount of base atk. I don't remember if any of the passives mattered, but the raw stats alone make it stand out among Val's classes already.
