My only problem with Elden Ring is that it's really just mediocre but is propped up on a pedestal. I will grant that the games that released alongside it fucking sucked and that ER is miles ahead of them but it's not really that much different compared to the other FROM games barring Sekiro/AC. Another world where everything except special NPCs are entirely hostile, killing mobs is a waste of time and resources so boss rushing becomes the most optimal method of going forward, plot is nebulous and only serves to set the stage of your boss rush. No one even refers to you as elden lord before you start ng+, fucking Dark Souls 2 had the NPCs call you a Sovereign. I realize I'm just whinging but I genuinely don't think it deserves the worship it gets.

I'm a big fan of the original and yeah it's a great remake. It has a bunch of questionable changes (like the music or the Diego character), and you can tell it's a game developed by amateurs, but for every minor cockup there's something that the game gives a huge upgrade to as well.

None of the ragebaiting tourists that seethe about modern AAA and remakes play Nintendo games. It's funny because every complaint they have about them (lazy rehash with no new mechanics, just copy/paste each other, woke and micro transactions, etc) aren't found in Nintendo games but they all refuse to play them. They seem borderline conditioned to avoid Nintendo, which is fine because it keeps them away from good games, but it is weird that they don't even seem to realize it.
