Is it cancelled?
Dragon Quest 12
I honestly think after FFXVI flopped they decided to scrap the darker more serious them and started over from scratch. Square needs a winner and badly.
Next year is the series 40th anniversary.
Trust the plan.
I don't mind how long it takes as long as they don't fuck it up. I'm extremely worried about the combat changes if it's bad the Japanese might even riot
Totally agreed
It would have been "The game of thrones of Dragon Quest" but now it's going to be Dragon Quest
dark more serious tone to DQ series
a town's pubs local prostitutes are kidnapped
another town where the people smoked a magical plant and became stone
a real horror theme town
town run by children who own a underground arena where adults fight to the death with some monsters
hey decided to scrap the darker more serious them
Why? VII is dark as shit and it's like the best game in the series.
Very nice, fellow 7fag.
Probably waiting for Switch 2. They always make one mainline game for the most popular console.
The big problem with it taking a while is that Horii's pretty damn old. His buddies are already gone (RIP kings), how much more time does he have left?
Holy shit we gotta save the prostitutes!
Isn't DQ always "dark"?
Who's going to compose the music now that Sugiyama's dead?
You now remember that Akira Toriyama is also dead.
t. retard who has never played a single DQ game but needs to post his SE corporate fanfic in every thread possible
Toriyama had multiple guys who could replicate his style. Sugiyama worked alone
Knowing SE they will probably feed his music into an AI and have it generate "new" songs.
Wasn't the guy who composed music for the NES/SNES Wizardry ports friends with Sugiyama? I think he could probably do a good job. Or whoever did the soundtrack for the FM Towns Wizardry 5 OST, holy moly that could be cool with DQ.
After DQXI, it's hard to imagine the music getting any worse.
Sugiyama was already past his prime anyway. XI's soundtrack was one of the weakest overall, with like half of it being songs from previous games. Also using VIIIs soundtrack was the only way to make the overworld not unbearable
7 is the first DQ I played. Just seemed like a normal JRPG to me. Enjoyed it a lot though.
I still have DQ11 collecting dust in my backlog for years, try convincing me why I should play it now.
Why would you want that? 11 songs sucked major ass
one world theme for the ENTIRE GAME
one battle song for the ENTIRE GAME
maybe 5 songs total
Buy DQXIS and leave it in you backlog, anon. Make sure to get the Switch version since that's the most expensive one.
7 years since the last DQ game released
zero information about this new one besides one (1) interview
radio silent for 4 years
this was, is, and will be the FF15 of drag-gun questu
DQ11 is a complete game with its own sequel baked in, post-credits
Manami Matsumae
Just seemed like a normal JRPG to me
I dunno, the village where everyone is petrified statues that have been decayed by the elements is the kind of fate worse than death that you usually don't see in RPGs. That's not exactly a village getting burned down by dragons or something.
Why is that more dark? It's just different. Being burned to death is way more brutal.
Dragon quest is actually a pretty dark series if you play the games.
In 9 there's a ghost town that was overrun by monsters, and because your character can see spirits you can see the ghosts of the townfolk including old people, and children. With the implication that everyone in the town was killed.
In another town there was a dead girl who had a doll that looked exactly like her take her place, thing is the girl died of terminal illness, and the storyline ends with the doll going back to being a doll and nobody knowing the real girl is actually dead thinking she went off to go do something.
A big part of 9 is basically helping the dead move on from their very tragic deaths.
Yeah Dragon quest is a really dark series if you look past the cartoony visuals.
DQ11 had one of the shittiest main stories + WOAT post-game story so yeah, i'm not excited for 12 by any means.
Why not get the Nichijou composer? Pretty similar feel to the music as DQ.
What made ff16 shit wasnt the darker tone but the whole game and quest designs. The combat is shallow as fuck, no real rpg elements and the gear progression is linear as fuck. The side quests follow the same boring ff14 quest design too.
I thought about an idea for your hero to meet princess who was sealed away for a thousand years. She wakes up to a war-torn world all caused by her decision long ago. Now she has to live with the guilt that everyone she loved is dead and humanity is on the brink of extinction. All because of one stupid decision.
Oh and she's immortal and cannot die. So she can't suicide out her guilt. Probably a crummy plot.
Sounds fine, but that alone is not enough to be considered a "plot." You need a lore more ideas and events than just that.
Japan doesn't buy videogames. They literally only play gachashit on their phones. Trying to court the Japanese audience is a mistake
I think I'll use this for an original setting. But the idea is a butterfly effect. One tragic decision in the past is the cause of all of the world's suffering and hatred. What that decision is I don't know yet. I do know it sets up the antagonist to become an immortal demiurge or demon god that controls an army of monsters. And humans live in despair and suffering ever since. Assuming the humans are not living dead themselves.
Presentation is everything, DQ11 the world goes to shit and all your party members are FUCKED but the game never stop feeling like a saturday morning cartoon.
Same reason why i cant take Legend of Heroes seriously.
saturday morning cartoon.
It's Saturday morning cartoon, Japan, though. It has soul.
I'm willing to bet this is Hori's last game.
From the interviews, it seems like he wants to compile one last game using the unfinished work of Toriyama and Sugiyama. He's probably asked SE for time to make sure he goes out as best he can.
9 remake when
Hopefully REVO
