It's kind of weird how much innovation has slowed down. I'm not saying Oblivion isn't dated, clearly it is, but Oblivion from 2006 is more similar to a game from 2025 than it is to a game released in 2002.

And just how would you innovate, chuddie?

I think it’s because game design met a plateau which is why “innovation” now is just slapping more QoL on the same basic structure that has been in place since the late 00’s/early 2010’s. AI might be the new frontier for gaming

i would make they womens boobs and butts bigger

I’m not a genius game designer and innovator, how would I know? I’m just pointing out something I noticed

It's not just games.
Compare popular music of current year to that of 2006, then back 19 years from that to 1985.
Movies too.

If you die in the game, you die in real life.

It's a technology plateau. Same thing that's happening with phones where they're struggling to think of shit to add every year to justify why they made a new one. The technology is fully matured and a lot of the space has been explored already.

You need to have a new technology to get another jump in progress. AI for example is a brand new space that will get a lot of development and huge jumps in capability as people explore what is possible with it.

Things got homogenized into brainless looter shooters where we're constantly told NUMBERS BAD NUMBERS BAD YOU DON'T WANT NUMBERS IN YOUR GAMES even though of course the main fixation of this modern shit stringing you along is a legendary weapon that gives you a 50% chance to do 400% critical damage.

With games like Oblivion though, there was at least a lot of experimentation going on. They wanted the NPCs to have fun behaviors and quirks.

more dynamic systems, it's really fucking obvious by the way

based

Too bad ai is lame and gay.

pretty much
anyone who relies on ai generative shit genuinely has no soul and should not be regarded as a human being

"QOL" isn't innovation at all, all "quality of life" ever is is removing game mechanics to create more of a walking simulator. Games definitely peaked in 2007-2009. They have never gotten better than that.

To say it's technically impossible to go beyond what Oblivion did is fucking retarded. You're not thinking straight.

It's a technology plateau

It's a social thing actually. There were tons of smart nerds back in the day making games but now they're old and far less effective and most of the young people joining game development today are 10000x more useless than the people that came before them. The effective young people are all making billions or working on AI.

This is why China is leapfrogging right now, their social stuff is booming and they have tons of brilliant young people doing what young people do best. While the west is fighting a communist takeover and societal collapse and stuff like that. And Japan is, well a lot went wrong over there.

You're lame and gay.

Games in the 2000s were made by white people for white people
Games in 2025 are made by DEI hires, women and niggers for "everyone" and therefore no one.
It's really that simple.
There is no grand conspiracy, you don't have to look further, it's not made by white men anymore and that's why they suck.

we lost sense of time in the aughts.
The neo industrial revolution of the GWOT and social media/web3.0 has led to the loss of decades in favor of 20/40 year "eras"

That, and the growth of the AAA industry. As games made more money, they attracted money, and then they needed to make more money with every game and it just became ass because they need to appeal to, as you said, everyone, which means no one.

Only a collapse can create an environment for passionate game devs again. Hopefully tarrifs do irreparable damage to the game industry.

How long is 1 TB going to be for only premium phones? We should be at Peta bytes by now. The absolute largest hard drive is 24 TB. The M2 drives only go to 8TB. And it feels like we've been stuck here technologically since 2016.

Only a collapse can create an environment for passionate game devs again

AI will

phones and apple devices

Cuck machines, yeah. They are designed to be held back.

It's a social thing actually

This mostly, people have gotten extremely lazy and stupid.

White men never made that many good games though you fake weeb.

And women are involved a lot more too, and jews, and retarded investors, and consumers wanting worse shit or buying outright shit. But the main thing is a cultural thing, we're in a slump generation when it comes to creativity and other things.

Worse than that, creativity has been destroyed. Stuck in a cultural rut with niggers trying to immitate what the white man created. In a few decades we'll be at cargo cult levels of cope while technological progess actually receeds.

made me kek

was Anon Babble right all along?

it's not that the technology has matured, it's just that all developers are retarded now

ok, what's your innovative idea

idk, make the women's butts bigger

Lmao. Truly insightful stuff from the intelligent gamers of Anon Babble.

if developers did that would we call them retarded? nah
but they don't

White men never made that many good games though you fake weeb.

Think of any game before 2015
It was made by almost exclusively white men
You're welcome
Oddly enough, 2015-ish was the cutoff when games got really bad, go figure

I'm still a believer in procedural generation. Starfield just didn't too enough of it; they tried to fill a procedural map with custom locales and quests which quickly became redundant. Such a game needs to be more system/event driven like a strategy/management game. More of a rogue-lite structure with narrative events woven through it, e.g. think of Stellaris handles quest lines. And like other anons have said, double down on the simulative aspects with active bounty hunters, dynamic faction conflicts, NPCs building settlements and pirates raiding settlements. Try to make the game world evolve in an organic way like Conway's Game of Life.

Less of a believer in LLMs. I think game AI is really cool and I'd bet you could do some cool stuff with machine learning and neural nets, but unfortunately their most popularized incarnation is LLMs which just aren't as relevant for games as people imagine them to be. The problem is they're very good at simulating language but they ONLY know language. As in, the model will have no idea how to relate game assets into its conversation topics. If they ask for an apple and you place an apple in front of them, the LLM won't know those two things are related. It's really only good for idle conversation but become jarring in any interaction that requires world/object engagement.

wrong you just have bad taste and play western games

Dynamic systems, or the appearance of them. Oblivions AI schedule for example. Skyrim went backwards in that and starfield further backwards.

Make the next elder scrolls larger scale, at least the landmass. You may ask “why have just more empty space, good question. Massive caravans moving across the dunes of hammerfall, longer distances make survival gameplay more impactful, worse case just bring back mark/recall/mage teleports etc. have a separate battle ai that can also switch to fighting in group combat like in bannerlord.

Speaking of combat for shits sake just copy mount and blade or copy chivraly, holy Christ.

An asynchronous background economy, simulated but also with visualized aspects the player can mess with. Like the caravans I mentioned actually moving goods from extractors to refining to markets.

Make land ownership a game itself with expenses so like in most RPGs you don’t just become richer and richer but actually have regular money sinks and costs.

People like elder scrolls games because ITS A WORLD so make it more alive

This guy gets it, Oblivion and Skyrim had mods for stuff like this.

travelling npcs

damsels in distress

put it in its place mod to make npcs smarter

battles between enemy factions, warzones mods etc

sex mods where rats would stalk you and impregnate your brown elf(boy)

animals that have schedules and relationships(BOTW did this a bit)

more environmental idles for npcs(fishing etc)

Speaking of combat for shits sake just copy mount and blade or copy chivraly, holy Christ.

Never mind he doesn't get it...

Overcomplicated for no real benefit.

Never mind he does get it. Fable did this well, it's fun.

is this worth playing if i never liked skyrim?

than it is to a game released in 2002.

You mean Morrowind? In this case, Oblivion was far less innovated but rather just a watered down inferior game
But hey, at least the game had voice acting for all its npcs....from a total of 8 people!

Have you played RDR2? That's a game from 2018 and it's like a game from 2032. For Bethesda to compete with RDR2 with ES6 is still a huge order, maybe impossible, and we're talking almost 10 years between them.

no

I’m talking about games from 2002 in general.

He has some pretty good viewcounts on his other vids.

he has

I'm sure cringebellagio

Opening a video in a new tab to look at it's viewcount then report it back to the thread, all because someone wants to post their video and share it with you a fellow anon. That's way more cringe than someone posting one of their new videos.

okay cringebellagio
