I remember this scroll glowing when opened, maybe you could use it for illumination?
What is Elder Scrolls used for?
it's the game code.
They are normally used for useless prophecies, they are supposed to be super strong and able to bend the earth bones but they are pretty much some Deus ex machina plot device, so their usefulness varies
main quest makes the elder scroll involve an extremely complex plotline
DLC hands them out left and right like candy
I wish the elder scrolls would be even more esoteric or even 4th wall breaking in the future
Basically allow you to see the events both past and future written on them as if you were there yourself, but makes you blind in the process (unless of course you're the main character with plot armor)
Unironically? They can do anything and everything. Theoretically sentient, infinite knowledge at the whim of its reader, with costs beyond mortal comprehension. We perceive its' blessing as visions, prophecy, legends, etc. But nothing short straight of plot devices at the end of the day.
Based and 6d brain pilled
That's the point. They exist outside of concept. Described as existing before and after, and outside of time. They are literal plot devices, but also the namesake of the game has a lot to do with the centralization of the scrolls themselves within any given story.
My eyes!
If I remember correctly there are special priests that can read them somehow, but it's a very rare order/group.
Dragonbreak hit the mephala constragram and disarmed the chim tribunal from inheriting the power of the merefic era from atmoran invaders, altmer be damned, windhelm.
Wait, so if the scrolls are plot devices that reveal whatever they want to the reader, who determines what they reveal? Do the aedra plant scrolls to fuck with mortal events?
who determines what they reveal
Oh, honey. My child. The scrolls do. The scrolls are 4th dimensional. They existed before time, meaning potentially existing alongside the primordials before there was anything ever.
who determines what they reveal?
They reveal literally EVERYTHING, which is why reading them makes you go blind.
A scroll is a very specific format for something that just popped into existence.
I never said it was a good plot device. The Elder Scrolls (the series not the in game items) is just a drawn out custom DnD campaign made by dudebros in college, that's why there's so much racism. It's charming, really.
dudebros
that's why there's so much racism
Knowledge isn't always good.
Is that the plot of these games? Never really paid attention to the main plot of Skyrim.
I recommend the Talmud and the Torah
The real plot is argonians are fucking field plows and high elves deserve to be descriminated against.
Which ones are high elves?
How much is Bethesda going to ruin Blade Singing in TES VI?
Object of untold power and prophecy exists
Only get to see them sometimes
Whenever one gets involved shit is gonna get real or could potentially end cataclysmically
So.. when exactly didn't the Thalmor raid the Empire's repository of them in the White-Gold Tower?
No wonder the monks go blind
Every race is just a metaphor for Muslims and/or Middle Easterne. Redguards are a 2 for 1 kinda deal.
You still have hopes for elder scrolls 6?
Star field was kind of a let down.
High elves are supposed to be the Jews right?
Wasn't it during the Markarth incident?
tfw TES 6 is in Hammerfell and High Rock like Daggerfall
tfw the bad guys are trying to zero sum Nirn with Adamantia
tfw we get to see how Akatosh killed Lorkhan
tfw we fight the Antagonist atop Adamantia during a Dragon Break and the fight between Lorkhan and Akatosh happens in the background
I accept this ass Canon. Jews or Christians, any religion really. That's what they do, they show us how much religious freedom they possess by limiting our view of the divines, but they don't actually care for that belief they just forced the white gold concordat to upset the Nords in Skyrim and cause a civil war that buy enough time for the altmer to regroup and regrow their numbers for a full scale invasion, iirc the altmer only lose battles because of their own hubris, like when they took the white gold tower, pretty sure they were about to demolish it or something but guy in charge didn't think the imperials would simply regroup for a counter assault after what happened in Markarth 25 years before the events of TESV
heh
That sounds pretty jewy.
I think they know it better be really good. They know they can't live off of Skyrim forever. Plus unlike starfield there is a lot of momentum and IP for TES that makes it hard to fuck up. Just redo Skyrim with some gimmicks and make it look nice and people will be satisfied.
I need to play oblivion and Morrowind.
Sure, everyone knows it's going to be slop. Star field was proof enough that Bethesda is finished.
I do think it's going to have slightly deeper mechanics then Skyrim. That being said it's going to suffer in everything else.
Morrowind is peak lore in terms of what you get out of it for being so old, there's alot there, but not alot of it has to do with the "greater picture" of the other games. Historically one of the most important games, I'll add, many a great thing happened in that period that has had centuries long effects, clear into Skyrim.
Oblivion also has one of the single most important historical events since the inception of the Empire in the First Era, and that is the degradation of the Empire, when the last Septim died, the dragonflames went with him, and almost every major connection to Oblivion was entirely sealed off, making Daedra thereafter much less of a threat, or even presence within Nirn as a whole. That's why in Skyrim most of the Daedric quests are just fetch quests, none of them can enter Nirn without some sort of cataclysm. My conjecture is the Dragonbreak that quite literally happens to the MC in Skyrim may have been the sort of event to set up the Daedra for TES6, though with no real evidence. It just sounds cool.
I have to replay all the games I guess.
Zelda tears of the kingdom was pretty interesting. I liked the inspirations behind the world and characters. It's a lot more up to date.
Why doesn't anyone use the elder scrolls for thievery? You could wrap one around yourself and anyone that looks at you gets blinded, you'd be nearly untouchable.
Oh so the Elder Scrolls are actual items in-game? I thought it was just some name like "The Elden Prophecies" or something
Skyrim was also slop but it works because the world was interesting to explore. The actual main quest is torture to complete. That's why I think TES 6 will be alright. All they need to do is redo Skyrim in a cool setting with plenty of ways to hook the ADHD audience and people will make their own fun. Starfield sucked because the world wasn't interesting. So if you didn't care for the main quest or the lore the only thing left to do is clear out copy/pasted dungeons on barren planets.
anyone that looks at you gets blinded,
You're as bright as the sun and soldiers will shoot arrows at you.
LOL
No, they're (meta)physical objects that exist in-universe.
They're parts of Akatosh, have their own free will and tend to show up as and when they're needed to assist with a specific thing.
Originally it was just a fantasy-ish sounding name, I'm not sure when they actually came up with the lore for it, probably either Daggerfall or Morrowind
I think it only blinds you if you are up close
every major connection to Oblivion was entirely sealed off, making Daedra thereafter much less of a threat
Skyrim may have been the sort of event to set up the Daedra for TES6
I hope so. The daedra are one of the coolest aspects of TES lore. It would be especially cool if the daedra started meddling in the conflict with the Thalmor since the Thalmor hate daedra and want to destroy nirn. I want to deal with them in exchange for abilities.
That's ridiculous, so the moth priests are pointless since they could just read from a distance or use a telescope?
