i never played it, how can i prove you anything

You'll have better luck on Anon Babble, none of the underage retards here have even heard of it.

hot take but jagged alliance 3 is better
JA2 is great but I think people conflate it with the 1.13 mod which adds so much complexity and depth that vanilla doesn't have

Fair point, but that sort of proves their argument by default, doesn’t it? If a game is so legendary that it still gets brought up decades later, and people feel the need to prove or disprove its greatness without having even touched it... that says something. Maybe time to change that and see for yourself?

Modded games don't count

Is it possible to play JA1 with higher resolutions? Last I tried the game only supported up to 800x600 I think...

I got a bunch of vidya magazines for xmas in 2003, one of them came with picrel. i started playing it over the winter break but I only finished it in 2017.

Reading John's email where he mentions being back in the USA "where they'd never put a woman in power" after bathing in liberal tears the year before where Hillary got BTFO, damn that was one of the biggest laffs I had that decade.

It's still one of my top 3 games today. Jagged Alliance 2, I salute you. The only spiritual successor that comes somewhat close is Quasimorph (and it's really not that close to JA2 at all)

Rts

Peak

Lmao. Play real games retard

i only tried 1.13 for a few hours in 2006. only played vanilla for a decade plus and it's the GOAT. the 3D sequels removed the soul in its entirety that came from the voice lines that would NEVER fly in le current year and the character portraits, it's that whole 80s action movie + turn based tactics + bizarro world (rampaging hillbillies, not-Che Guevara, cave dwelling zergs, bounty hunting, banana republic antics etc etc in one single setting) that is greater than the sum of its parts. I looked at every sequel/reboot that ever came out and instantly thought "that just ain't it senpai"

cringe
based

JA2

RTS

lol

RTS

not real games

Go grind out the Warzone dailies zoomie before your Belle Delphine goon sesh, this ain't the thread for you

the 3D sequels removed the soul in its entirety that came from the voice lines that would NEVER fly in le current year

why have you not played JA3

This Jagged Alliance 2 concept could have lent itself well for fantasy and post-apocalyptic (original Fallout) themes as well. I wish there were more games like it.

Play Wasteland anon
It's not the same game at all but it's a good squad tactics RPG series, I'd recommend 2nd part over 1 and 3

i can see they tried to bring JA into the current generation of gaming but it's one of those timeless relics in my opinion that really didn't need it (dialog trees? in a JA game?)
that's like trying to remake Glengarry Glen Ross in a current day setting where the whole movie would be everyone trading crypto on their phone while smoking vapes, just does not compute.
But if you enjoy it, more power to you, not trying to gatekeep. you're part of the JA fandom just like me and that's #based in my book

you know what, I'll pick it up during the summer sale.i need a game in a hot setting i can play during the summer anyway. maybe i just need to eat a reality sandwich and recognize that this is Jagged Alliance now and get with the times

sir why are you opining about a game you havent actually played

1.13 mod which adds so much complexity and depth

It adds bloat. It has long since turned into a hideous, directionless mess and a textbook example of why every project needs someone calling the shots instead of just stuffing it with "features" with no rhyme nor reason.

Go back to Elder Scrolls, Todd.

Lol I never noticed it's actually a man on the cover.

I was thinking the same thing while playing, in most tabletop stuff you're really just a bunch of mercs hired to clear out a dungeon so just slap that on the JA model and make the plot about you liberating a kingdom

um no akshually it indeed is a woman (of the muscular variety)

lold hard @ this
For a modern take on the Jagged Alliance concept, I guess they could have done a lot worse. I'll give it a fair try once it goes on sale

You probably can't function in life.

Played 2 and 3. They honestly aren't nearly as good as the two later-series XCOM games.

I actually enjoyed Warhammer: Chaos Gate, the old one, better than JA2.

you have my condolences

you know what's ironic, I've been watching a lot of Chris-Chan videos lately and i just realized, the aesthetics of JA2 have been my "Sonic has TAN arms!!!" thing all along.
A moment of self awareness

I liked Deadly Games.
It's a shame they never made a JA2: Deadly Games with all the improvements JA2 had over JA1.

He's not wrong. JA 3 is incredibly sanitized compared to JA 2. But I could forgive it that if it wasn't basically a Borderlands game except turn based.

submachineguns and pistols are completely useless, even in earlygame

enemies are damage sponges that cannot be meaningfully wounded or incapacitated in combat, getting hit in the head with a 7.62 they shrug it off shouting "GONNA NEED A BANDAGE" and keep on going

attachments are non detachable miracle gadgets that are crafted from shit lying around and cannot be changed or removed without being broken

retarded nu x-com "Enemies spread out and instantly glue their assholes to cover" and when it happens they are invincible, so if you drop a mortar shell on them, they just completely ignore the damage

explosives are pathetic, there's never any reason to use them at all

no actual need to carry ammo, no need to place your equipment properly, ammunition is miraculously stored in "null space" where it is retrieved from as needed

no actual vehicles you can use to traverse the areas, no ability to utilize air transportation, moving about is boring and slow, relying only on character stats for speed

no bobby ray's

There's no tactics in JA 3. You get a shittiest imaginable rifle with a bottle for silencer and you now own the game. There's no reason to play this when Silent Storm and 7.62 exists.

Warhammer: Chaos Gate

it was jank but soulful

Its not a crpg thats for fucking sure

half of your whining is not really true and the other are outdated and no more true

priotities.jpg - 1457x707, 174.88K

Did you use the aim feature? get the arterial shot perk and aim for the legs and arms. crotch shots basically nullify their turn.

I offered thought out critique of my experiences when playing and beating this game to completion on release. The only useful SMG is a G-36 and the only useful handgun is a deagle and you only get those in the final maps of the game. You also cannot plant mines of your own and there's never a reason to plant and use remote controlled explosives. And their damage output is laughable.

Getting hit in the head when you're wearing no protection should at worst knock out an enemy and at best be an instant kill, like what happened in JA2.

Vanilla (1.12) JA2 complexity is fine, but the game has some bad jank, my last playthrough spazzed out while walking down to Tixa underground and my last save was back in Balime, couldn't force myself to re-do sector capture + two road battles + Tixa above ground so I never got back to it.

JA2.jpg - 640x480, 165.68K

on release

man, that are old news
Boby ray is back for example

>explosives are pathetic, there's never any reason to use them at all

????

Barry's shaped charges are the only exception, it's the only good kind of explosive in the entire game.

I never played 2 but I really enjoyed 3, it does have a lot of soul. Only think I don't like about it is half your starting mercs look like ADHD zoomers

grenade launchers on ARs alone trivialize the game

Dangerously based.

By the time you get those, the game is already practically finished.

There's a perk for that but it's limited to the wisdom tree and you need 90+ and spend 4 levels

I've not played it for a while but half of that is either half true or just wrong.

is jagged alliance 1 worth playing

yes actually
its quite janky tho and well outdated but can be fun if you can tolerate that

Not in my experience, given that you can just craft them plus the ammo for them as soon as you have the resources. Then the Bobby Ray's update and weapons shipments they later made matters even more trivial, my last full playthrough was practically just a grenade spamfest after the halfway mark.

Been meaning to play these after loving FFTactics. Does it let me autistically build up a custom army, or is it more like making do with whatever mercs you get?

0002339095.jpg - 1200x1698, 313.46K

You can only create one merc, no generics, you can recruit some named NPC in the field but most of your force come from mercenary agency - they are handcrafted characters
