GOTY 2025

And GOTY 2025 goes to...

Goty: E33
RPG: KCD2
Action: Doom
Family: split fiction or nintendo
Art and music:E33
Direction: death stranding
Games for impact: no mercy
Indie: blue prince

For me it is E33 so far and I don't see anything else taking that, but I am gonna keep an open mind.

The dark horse

prime 4.png - 1550x862, 1.98M

One of the most anticipated games in decades. People are talking about Switch 2 this, price increase that. Look, if Beyond hits a home run it's winning.

I'd love for the game to be great, but I have a bad feeling about it. The fact that the development was so troubled means it is either gonna be unadulterated kino or a fucking mess.

No the fact that the restarted development cause the first build was shit tells me nintendo is taking it fucking seriously

I predict the nominees

Split Fiction

Doom Dark Ages

Death Stranding 2

Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Metroid Prime 4

Nightreign

There's no room for rpgs this year

This is a very strange list.

MP4 and MK World will be nominated as well

How many nominees do they do though?

Honestly, just based on Retro's track record I'd bet my bank account on it at least being good

The fact that its a release title means it could be the most popular game in the series. And imagine GOTY?
I hope nothing of that happens, dont want normies playing metroid

Yeah, cause Samus and Metroid are little underground, hole in the wall gems...

Six. Split Fiction and KCD2 aren't getting nominated. I really enjoyed Split Fiction but it came and went, and I think MP4 and MK World will both also land next to it in the low 90s but will make more of a splash in the zeitgeist

Journalists and ecelebs fucking hate nintendo now. They are now in wrestling terms turned heel. They will never win a goty again

The thing about Split Fiction is they won GOTY before with It Takes Two and Geoff himself raved about it on twitter. He is not the sole arbiter of it, but I feel like he would use whatever leverage he has to get it nominated at least.

Split Fiction is 100% getting nominated. The game scored high and the director is celebrity status at tga. It would be shocking if it wasn't.

Eh it just looks like more Metroid Prime which I don't see winning journos over unless they really like the Halo aesthetician the game is going for.

Also I can see Nintendo announcing a holiday title that'll beat the hype of whatever is announced during their Summer Direct.

GotY: DS2

Multiplayer: Split Fiction

Indie: REPO or some other FotM slop

Family: Mario Kart, Bananza or some other Nintendo game

RPG: KCD2

Optimization: KCD2

Art direction: Expedition 33

Most anticipated game: GTAVI

Action game: Doom

Action/Adventure: Ghost of Yotei

Games for Impact (placeholder DEI category): South of Midnight

Best soundtrack: E33 or KCD2

Best shooter: Ken Levine's Judas if it still comes out this year, otherwise Doom

Best strategy: Civ VII

Those are my bets.

Journalists and ecelebs fucking hate nintendo now. They are now in wrestling terms turned heel. They will never win a goty again

They hate Nintendo until the Switch 2 releases and everyone loves it
This might be insane to say but I actually kind of trust Geoff not to rig it
I'd typically say it's a shoo-in, but this year is unusually competitive

Clair Obscur is not just GOTY its the Game of the Decade, easily

>Nightreign

Doubt they'll nominate Elden Ring for a third time. From what I've seen this DLC also isn't as "grand" as SotE. Isn't it just a new small map with focus on coop?

It is an entirely separate game and it is not being made by Fromsoft and is a co-op boss battler, yes.

Nubby's Number Factory

its just a roguelite spinoff, i dont think it should be nominated even though ill probably enjoy it but they keep nominating remasters and DLCs so who knows

I'd say only one Nintendo game will be nominated, but 2023 there were two so I might be wrong.

Is the writing really that good? Gameplay just seems like stuff that's been done before in like Mario RPG games and what I've seen of story just reminds me of FF8 (which wasn't very good or consistent).

I'm not playing any of those.

If you play on Expert the Parry/Dodge mechanics are absolutely vital to the point of it almost feeling like turn based Sekiro in a good way. The story is very good but you need to not get spoiled. It is filled with kino moments. Also the OST is 10/10.

he doesn't wanna expand his dong with the kong

Don't know yet. I'll tell you after Deltarune chapter 3 comes out. If its ass I don't know what to pick since I don't keep up with new games. Maybe White Knuckle, since its a massive Half-Life homage with a cool gameplay gimmick.

Civ VII

best anything

lmao

Deltarune chapter 3 and 4 are coming out this year.

Are there any other strategy games that released?

Only if they learned from the mistakes of Prime 3. Otherwise it's dead in the water.

Anno 117 will come out this year, and endless legend 2 in EA. I can't imagine them being worse than Civ

Is the writing really that good?

Judge it for yourself, a lot of the heavy hitters are in the first 2 hour, well within the refund window. Or just pirate it, since there's no Denuvo.
Writing + acting feels very naturalistic, there's no feeling of artifice that you often find in vidya. It feels like an excerpt from a great TV series or a great film. Unlike many video games it doesn't rush ahead, it's not afraid of moments of silence, the character conflict feels believable.
The other anon already introduced gameplay, but he forgot to mention the pico/lumina system that feels straight out of Bravely Default or some other JRPG that allows you to break its combat system in half. Auto death + shield on death + AP on death + auto revive once per battle is one such combo that I have a particular fondness for.

Lets be real. It's going to Split Fiction because Sony bought the show. Again.

i think they should nominate elden ring for a third time because this year sucks

Base Elden Ring too, not even the DLC. Then we can have the DLC next year.

Half-Life 3

I disagre but I can't explain why

Make me feel smart, I'm getting hard

Tamriel Rebuilt: Grasping Fortune.
But that's a mod for an old game so it won't win.
EVEN THOUGH IT FUCKING SHOULD COMPARED TO THE GARBAGE COMING OUT THESE DAYS.

playing mods because of the absolute toilet being released

Based. For me, it's Chrono Trigger + (final patch released a month ago)

If the world will be redeemed in the future KCD2 will win GOTY.

No I just didn't want to be rude

Its still niche, normies dont play metroid
