Incorrect. It is not nice graphically. It looks like shit graphically. First thing I see when I step outside the sewer is a solid wall of grey instead of green. All the "Original vs. Remaster" videos online show the same thing - they just removed the deep green color from the terrain.
UE5 itself is impossibly broken at this point and there's probably no way to fix it. Now with more major games (Halo, Bethesda shit) moving to it, we are screwed for the indefinite future, maybe for the next 10 years or more.
This is "high" settings on a 5060ti at 1440p, native res. Can't enable DLSS, it just makes it look even worse. Engine lighting looks bad, simple identical rain pattern everywhere, fog is just a solid wall of grey but this persists even without rain. Grass and trees look like stock objects. Rocks are hyper-realistic and stand out too much from everything else. Everything looks shitty in multiple ways, it's hard to feel like you're going anywhere because there's no art-style consistency - it feels you're walking through a Chinese tech demo for photorealism - which is what this is.

I played both, while you could argue KCD2 is aesthetically better looking and the architecture is more interesting it's not really comparable to the Oblivion Remaster. KCD2 didn't even have proper ray traced water reflections, this is a huge immersion breaker for me. When you move the camera and the shadows bug out. I'd also argue the texture quality is better and a lot of the lumen lightning looks better overall.

The knights of order had hair clipping through their helmets. There were some other bugs, too. I'll let them get a few patches in before I do my next playthrough. I was hoping they'd fix the weapon damage scaling, but it really is a remaster rather than a remake. I think Skyblivion will be better.

Seeing zoomers being impressed by a single 2006 game and talking non-stop about it for a month straight is kind of sad. At its release, Oblivion was seen as a good but flawed game and a downgrade from Morrowind in many ways. But more importantly, it was quickly replaced in the gaming zeitgeist by other games while I'm expecting to still see Oblivion threads on Anon Babble in a year from now.
It is. Skyrim magic might have less depth but some spells, esp destruction, are a lot more varied
I've sank about 60hrs into it so far.
If I didn't have real life commitments, i'd have probably doubled that, and Oblivion was only slightly higher that Skyrim in my opinion before, I was more of a Morrowind land.
I gave it a shot, no fast travel, some HUD mods, just fuck it, go and play.
and at some point through it, I realized i'd forgotten enough of Oblivion that it felt like a new Elder Scrolls.
I couldn't remember how to get Azuras star, couldn't remember the name of the Daedric bow I used, I remembered chameleon was better than invisibility, but 90% of shit, i'd forgotten... So I just played, and unlike many of the recent games, i'm not in a rush to complete it, shit like KCD2, i got bored with after a couple of days, Stalker 2, same thing... either boredom sets in, or I cba opening it up and playing it, and it eventually gets uninstalled and i move on, or go play Abes odysee or some shit.
But with Oblivion, it's still fun, I still want to buy all the houses, I've completed Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild so far, and i'm doing the pilgramage knights of the nine shit right now.
I'm out duing the day doing shit, and i'm thinking about what I want to do on Oblivion when I get in.
Most, if not all games I play these days just dont have that pull.
I wish they'd do the same for Morrowind.

Something I discovered playing the remaster, there's a second Nocturnal statue in one of the Imperial Fort type ruins (I think the one you kill the elf bitch for the Mage's Guild) and the statue is broken in such a way that you can admire Nocturnal's meaty ass in all its glory. Truly, Oblivion is the definition of soul.

Morrowind loses a lot of it's charm when you realize how small the map really is. The game does a lot of clever tricks with natural landscape hazards, but if you get a proper Big Jump to see the world it's tiny.

I feel Morrowind could be improved by keeping the dice roll mechanic, but also add a bit more interaction with the melee combat.

I think that's what grabbed me about it, I had the fold out map you got with the game, and I remember it being blue-tacced to my wall, I didn't even know fast-travel was a thing until I played Oblivion, so every quest or missions was an actual fucking journey.

Money is a matter of quantity, not quality. You need to wait until you're mid-level and pulling in weapons that sell for 300-500 a pop, and then hoard those to sell at one of the major vendors. If you're really hurting for cash, do the Arena quests and Collector.
You can haggle with traders, if it says they have 15 gold, that means you can only sell them stuff for 15 gold... you can sell a LOT of times at 15 gold... or you can also invest in some traders, which can up traders gold reserves to, I think like 3k if you've done it all.
You have to use the haggling slider to increase how much you get when selling items but don't raise it too high or the merchant will refuse the sale and lose 1 disposition

Because that's the "true" price, not the selling value. The merchant needs to make a profit on what you're selling them, so they'll buy it at 36% the value and sell it at 100% value. Advancing your mercantile skill allows you to Haggle and raise that to as much as 70%.

The two houses I like the best are Bruma and Anvil, because they both have enough containers that are all within one cell. Other houses like Skingrad and Chorrol are nice in theory, but they have the drawback of having the second story walled off by a loading screen. It's and unnecessary inconvenience IMO
Anvil also has the added bonus of not having to buy any of the furnishings. Only have to complete the quest, which is relatively quick and easy. (It has a basement which is a separate cell but it's huge as fuck and even has the special lich lair thing so it gets a pass from me)
As for merchants, the Dunmer guy in the Merchant's Inn in Imperial City is the best merchant you should always be using. He has a 3k gold cap after investment, which is the best in the game. It's not near the houses I mentioned but it's not hard to load up on feather potions if you need to packmule a ton of shit
of course all of the above is somewhat moot considering the special DLC housing. the fighter castle, mage tower, smuggler cove, vile lair. they all have insane amenities because they were DLC and basically feel like cheat mods

they improved oblivions gameplay as well by making the dodge roll less clunky.
Arguably they changed mechanics too much because they took stamina out of the damage formulae so you cant fortify stamina to deal more phsyical damage (physical damage was already weak as fuck in oblivion) and its a nerf to orc racial too. but it fixed a bug with players abusing stamina editing spells for absurdly high damage attacks. nevermind that conjuration, poisons with alchemy, and % weakness spells already do absurd damage or ignore master difficulty

Because heavily modded Oblivion has always been a fun game, and you pretty much got Oblivion with better graphics and not retarded models and animations. Faces and art direction somehow got worse, but not enough to ruin the experience.
I can only hope people are going to start porting quest/content mods. The main quest is the least fun part of Oblivion and I always ignored it, the game shines when it turns into your personal fantasy adventure.

I think it's because nobody else makes games quite like Bethesda and a lot of zoomers experienced Skyrim as their first TES game and then nothing else for the last 12 years. Of course they didn't touch OG Oblivion or, god forbid, Morrowind, because "ew aren't those, like, clunky and old?" so for them it's like TES VI just released with this remaster
There are a few minor touch-ups they did outside of the graphics overhaul though. And although I call them "minor touch-ups" they have huge impacts on the overall feel of the game. For one there is sprint button now. That is actually huge for a lot of people and OG Oblivion is immediately dated for not having a sprint button. They also reworked the leveling system to where you don't have to play in the most autistic way possible in order to not gimp yourself with the attribute point system. Enemies also slightly flinch when you hit them. Just that tiny bit of feedback seems to add so much. In OG Oblivion you hit someone with a claymore and, yeah, they take damage, but there's literal 0 visual cue that they took a hit.
I think there's a lot of little things that add up to a more cleaner experience overall. Someone will say "but you can le mod all that stuff in" and you are suddenly asking too much of someone who might try out an older game. It's a lot nicer to have all that stuff in the game right out the gate.

I don't think that's true. There seems to be different types of trees and different plants and shit in the different areas of the game. I think they did that in the Remaster to diversify the lands a bit because I don't remember that in OG Oblivion. They are subtle changes, but they are apparently there as I travel between one area to the next.
