inb4 some anti-linux faggot comes in this thread to says linux is for pajeets and trannies.

It is, thougheverbeit.

*does nothing else*

A free, open-source operating system

NOOO! THIS IS AWFUL! I NEED to be cucked by Microshit and Crapple!

uses free software

Imagine being poor. Oh, wait. You don't have to.

Uses free software

Gets a better experience than people who paid

Oops

Linux is awesome but I hate how Proton creates separate wine prefixes for every game. They take a lot of space
Also I hate how Linux has quite poor support for NTFS

Let me guess, you need more?

inb4 you act like you're not a NEET

I never had any problems with NTFS on Linux. What issues did you experience?

I know the joke

What is the usecase for

But unironically why would you even bother with a NTFS partition if you're using linux.
ext4 has support for casefolding on partitions if you REALLY need some shit to be casefolded in the event of total silly head developers

if I reboot my PC abruptly sometimes my external HDD refuses to mount properly
The only way to fix that is to use chkdsk from Windows
It is not Linux fault per say, in theory I can just reformat it into something that is natively supported like ext4 but then I would lose the ability to open it on Windows machines

You always come in these threads and never have any legitimate criticism against Linux.

All linuxboys know that if Microsoft open source Windows, people will forget about Linux in a month.

up is down

I can lie, too.

I mean if you wanted to pick a "painful" truth, you should have gone with

Linux will never get widespread adoption if you can't buy a linux PC at walmart.

All linuxboys know that if Microsoft open source Windows

Windows would be a laughing stock of the whole internet
Anon Babble source code would look like a masterpiece in comparison

why should I switch from w11 to linux (like i.e. mint) if I don't really give a shit about tracking and data gathering?
pretty much everything online steals your data anyway, and my PC runs perfectly fine on w11, so I fail to see why I should jump to Linux.

I started using linux back in 2020 and now I'm trans

Imagine paying for software.
Is that some kind of a western cuck thing?

Just a look into the Registry alone would be enough to reduce users to gibbering madness from the sunken depths of R'lyeh. I can only imagine the amount of spaghetti stacked upon itself as they've started jamming in Copilot and other stuff into Win11. It looked like MS may have been going on a better path with 7,and 10 was at least reasonably unobtrusive before they started backporting shit from 11 that was more invasive. So it has some of the newest nonsense, but also ancient driver modules from a decade ago that barely work and are in conflict with something else

If it was hopeless to escape spyware the propaganda would be unnecessary.

Why should I switch to linux if I don't care about that

Computer run better, like, in general, there's a bunch of crap windows runs in the background that makes your computer run worse, it doesn't even begin and end with just their spyware crap.

Imagine not being able to pay for software. Is this some sort of brown favela monkey thing?

rich people can pay but choose not to :)

I like your smilies, sweetie. :3
Want to install linux with me and take progesterone?

considering that all I'm playing now are older games and Linux runs all of them amazingly well through WINE and RetroArch, it's my new OS for the foreseeable future. graduated from Ubuntu to Arch a few months back and really happy to move towards a more custom solution.

Wow Rabbi, slow down.

I played recettear on debian 12 today with basically no problems (had to restart steam to get controller drivers updated).

It's so much smoother than it was in 2021. Crazy how far it's come in just a few years.

I refuse to spend money

which makes YOU a jew

Explain this moon logic.

This may or may not convince you to switch to Linux. But here are the benefits of using that Operating system.

Free and Open source

Less annoying to use

More customizable than windows

Doesn't rape your ram for no reason

Doesn't have bloatware on it

You basically own your OS you can do whatever you want including making it commit suicide by typing rm -rf / in terminal

And in case you're gonna ask me this question, learning the terminal isn't complicated, it's actually pretty easy.

I don't really give a shit about tracking and data gathering? pretty much everything online steals your data anyway

Well, regardless how you feel about that, it is not okay for them to do that.

buy 9070 XT

completely stable system starts crashing randomly, logging me out of wayland randomly, and randomly getting terrible frame rates in the middle of a game

I thought you said AMD had good linux drivers.

Separated prefixes are good because if a game doesn't run for some reason, you can just make a new prefix. On Windows you are doomed in this situation. You can also use one prefix with symlinks and launch commands.
NTFS doesn't support some symlinks especially the ones that Proton uses.

Better backward compatibility

QoL things like gamescope (virtual monitor)

Wine can transfer dinput to xinput and vice versa

Shader preloading

More and easier customization (you liked Win9x, XP or 7 look? There are themes like these)

Soul

Overall it's closer to the golden age of Windows.

Fantastic argument. You're a fine gentleman.

mpv-shot0031.jpg - 1920x1080, 188.81K

It's kind of fun for me since I've been using Linux pre-DXVK
God bless the man that wanted to look at 2b's buttocks and brought an age of smiles and joy to mankind.

build new rig

try a few distros

try a few games from my library

try different combinations of proton layers and drivers

single digit fps every time

Well it was a nice try.

runs

Sorry for these stupid questions, but I'm pretty stupid while simultaneously interested:
Don't some games require you to update your .NET framework or something? And be on a specific version of DirectX? Aren't those Windows only, or...
Also, if Linux is so customisable, wouldn't that lead to more conflicts between programs because they may not have been intended to work together? Seems like it'd be way easier to fuck up your system than with w11.
I'd jump to Mint if I could 100% guarantee I can do what I'm doing now, but better.

You can't have an honest discussion about linux.
People always bring trannies and fags. They/them are a small part of the community. The real problem is giving Indians access to the internet.

But then who would run linux if you didn't allow Indians?

Say that to his face.

190.png - 300x100, 47.26K

Do you actually have the hardware to run the games properly? Are you using the correct benchmark game (Crisis)?

Steam+Proton basically runs everything in it's own isolated sandbox with custom settings, so those programs don't interfere. Basically if you install programs from repository, there's no problems.

Only white people.

he fell for waylard meme

Debatably they aren't even part of the community because tranny/faggot shit ideology is at completely odds with FOSS philosophy #1
-The freedom to run the program for any purpose
Since those fags literally cannot stop trying to force their CoC on everyone.

You might've heard about that magical thing called DXVK that cures stutters plaguing windows by translating DX to Vulkan. Well, it came from Linux. Modern .net is multiplatform, old .net is implemented in Mono (altho for some games you still have to install regular .net in Wine).

Just ignore them.
Fatherless attention whores.

Not quite the same, but my 9070xt has been significantly worse in terms of system stability than my 3070.

DXVK

that's why im switching to linux
not him

for me it was because I'm on an ancient machine that doesn't support 11 and 10 just got progressively slower and more bloated
by the time 12 comes out you might consider switching to Linux just so it doesn't run like shit

I think it was dishonored just to test something single player. The hardware is more than powerful enough for the game (rtx 2060 and I forget which cpu, 32 GB of RAM)

Imagine wine as the Windows compatibility mode just it creates folders where a fake barebone Windows folder structure with some dll-s is set up (these are called prefixes). Windows programs see this as your C drive and your main OS is the Z one by default (you can piss easily change these ). Now a program has no reason to write to another drive but even if it would want to it couldn't because on Linux you (user) has only access to your home directory which only contains thumbnails and disposable config files.

.NET framework or something? And be on a specific version of DirectX? Aren't those Windows only, or...

I guess most of Net framework versions work on Wine. There is also an open source something but not sure. DXVK is a translation layer that turns Directx 8,9,10,11 into Vulkan. Vkd3d turns DX12 into Vulkan. And for older stuff I guess people just Wine3D that turns dx into opengl.

Thinkpad T480s

Installed W11 like a moron

Runs like shit

Try mint in VM

Runs extremely well

Clear enough cache for a 50GB partition

Is dualbooting worth it?

Giving him pecs was a weird decision

You're using free software to post on this website retard

Nothing is good at first but eventually yea
Your card just came out

Yes, but I'd recommend Windows 10 for the Windows boot.

Use Win10 IoT Enterprise over 11, Anon Babble will hook you up.

Nah, windows will try to kill your linux partition.

if you absolutely must dualboot then go with W10
also install the long term support version and do it before you install linux so you don't have to fuck about with the bootloader/grub

Because microsoft kinda forgot how to write good OSes.
DirectX12 is a shameful display of incompetence, so is basically everything on windows.

You can just symlink to a single shared prefix for the ones you're not going to do any manual configuration for
