Did he redeem himself?
Did he redeem himself?
SAAR
no. he just added vast amounts of fluff but no actual gameplay.
its still the same rock smashing sim it was on day 1
He did nothing wrong.
It's an exploration game anon the fluff is the gameplay.
Yes. In the grand scheme of the gaymen industry, he's not even all that bad of an offender when it comes to bullshitting during prerelease.
He did not redeem.
dude no man sky now is good!
install the game
no option to change from sprint toggle to hold to sprint
uninstall the game
Yes. Whether NMS was a good game in its own right was never the case against him.
He did, but the game still sucks ass though.
Why would you want to hold to sprint?
NU MALE'S LIE
I don't know if he finally delivered what he promised but I'm glad that he cares about the game enough to keep it alive, wish I could say the same about other devs
Yes
Anon Babbletards will tell you no but only for the sake of contrarianism.
Is NMS a proper fully blown space sim? No.
It's a casual game for normies but it was never supposed to be anything else.
He did NAT REDEEEM
Once a crook, always a crook.
Just because he was shamed publically into delivering what he originally promised and then some more, doesn't erase him being dishonest piece of shit liar.
No, I picked up the game a few weeks ago. It feels like an AI generated slop fest with 5000 random mechanics that are all half finished and have no purpose.
The gameplay is absolutely dog shit, I have no idea how after 10 years of updates the space flight and combat feels like something a university student would shit out after following an Indian YouTube tutorial, the exploration is the same, very basic template copy pasted infinite times. I'm going to ignore any games coming out of that Dev since there is absolutely no substance to any of their game design.
There's a war goin' on outside No Man's Sky ain't safe from
You could run, but you can't hide forever
From these wins that we done took
You walkin' with your head down, scared to look
You shook, ‘cause ain't no such things as halfway crooks
amazing game
play NMS in VR. It is far more amazing that way and you will design your builds so much better.
try nms because everyone says it's good now
fov is tiny as fuck and can't be made to look like a normal game
ugly as hell
boring gameplay
it must have been really bad before
youtube.com
But are you king, king of the ruse?
The Hype for NMS was Snoy's fault. Sean's only fault was being an awkward nerd with shit public speaking skills. Could have cut and run when he had the chance, but he didn't.
What the point of survival mode if you can just go to settings change the difficulty options to buy inventory slots for cheap then change it back
They rolled him out for the next con job where he said some new unintentional autistic lies. Why do the keep letting him talk in public.
VR controls are perfect. Hint: the guns slew to your eyes.
Yeah, surely he was pressured into lying about the multiplayer existing by the same company that hastily put stickers over online capabilities info on physical boxes so they don't get assraped for false advertising.
You're a fucking idiot, you know that?
No, this idea doesn't make any sense and it just shows how people's perceptions are really built on stories they hear and not on facts.
He and his entire team openly lied about features of the game to generate hype. There's a hilarious interview where they say things like:
while you're on planet X, an animal is drinking water on planet Y
the herds of animals communicate telepathically to know how to move
to change the color of the sky we had to create new chemical elements in our periodic table so that there would be new chemical interactions in the atmosphere
They said a lot of bullshit on purpose to make people believe that their game was more than it really was (a shitty mobile game tier garbage). The fact that they keep updating the game and making money from it doesn't mean that they've "redeemed" themselves, it just means that the scam was successful enough for them to keep profiting from it for over a decade.
Most devs only dream of having such a large user base, and they got it by lying. And the "free" updates aren't charity, it's just a valid strategy to get your game through the "initial sales week" several times, which you see many indies do, with varying degrees of success. Every time they release a free update, No Man's Sky jumps to the top of all digital stores, generating huge revenue for the scammers.
buy product
it only starts working 7 years later
no, fuck him
Nope. I would say yes if he just admitted that he lied and apologised for it. He'll never do that and so in my eyes he'll always be a scammer. He was incredibly lucky to avoid legal repercussions too imo.
Everyone will play his game as long as it has actual content.
He has a good foundation now.
Who IH? I'd say selling out your reputation to shill for Sean Murray was pretty wrong.
How hard would it be to say this:
Hello folx, this game is going to be totally awesome but truth to be told we aren't there yet.
As I stand here I promise to deliver all this shit: lists features
highlights later: 'The Dev who Promised and Delivered, instead of Big Redemption Story (implying he was a fraught that had to redeem himself)
no
pussy faggot dipped after he got the money and went radio silent. i don't give a fuck that he was "secretly working behind the scenes to make the game better". he should have publicly apologized and offered refunds for lying his fucking ass off for MONTHS leading up to the release of his shitty, overpriced game
He's still selling his shitty game for $60
Yes, And I will be playing Light No Fire
It honestly amazes me how many people don't get this. Redemption is meant to be for genuine mistakes. Lying and scamming on a global scale isn't something that you can just accidentally do.
Shooting with your eyes sounds like the most boring combat mechanic imaginable, same retards who think driving a car with an iPad is more fun than manual. you already don't have to aim because shooting in the approximate cardinal direction towards an enemy will auto aim your shot.
I don't know why I expected more, based on the Peter molenuex esque sales pitch and initial trailers I had this impression they were on the vanguard of procedural gen. I thought this weird team of nerds actually had some unique expertise but the game feels like any retarded indie game where they were following YouTube tutorials and half assing everything. After experiencing the game in 2025 and contrasting it with how he talked about the game initially I am even more repulsed by his sales pitch, the absolute dunning Kruger levels of ambition feels like those university students making an mmorpg as their first game.
Why would Sony intentionally cause a scandal like that? Like the other anon said, you're a fucking retard. No one at Sony came up to Sean and said "hey man we'd like you to just completely lie about pretty much every feature in your game until a day after release."
No, this is another instance of the average player getting fucked in the ass and thinking its a good thing actually while praising the ass fucker.
come out at the vgas to shill new game
heheh you know I like to lie
lies about new game
fuck this guy
Sean didn't lie about anything, he was just retarded. Everything he said yes to was either planned or in development, then as they got closer and closer to the strict schedule they were given they had to start chopping and abandoning ideas, and they couldn't just say hey our game isn't going to have xyz because of sony.
Yeah and I think it's important to remember just how ridiculous some of those lies were. The narrative is that he just embellished a little bit but the reality is he marketed a game that didn't fucking exist.
Also the whole "oh what does it matter now?" Argument. Well apart from being scam, it set a horrible precedent for releasing unfinished crap which the industry never recovered from. Also all the money which Hello Games has made is built on a lie. Loads of other small devs never got a chance because they didn't lie their arses off but fuck them I guess. the whole "redemption arc" is so artificial too. Genuinely makes me lose faith in other people that they can be so easily manipulated.
yes, 100%
and to all haters:
eat shit
and they couldn't just say
so he lied
Yeah but then this thread wouldn't exist and no one would know this guy's name because No Man's Sky would have 0 players right now. That's actually the worst part for me, it's impossible to redeem a game that was only ever successful as a result of lies. No one would be playing this piece of shit if it weren't for that, it would've been forgotten years ago.
Sean didn't lie about anything, he was just retarded.
Why are YOU lying?
There's was an interview with him shortly (day before?) release and he was specifically talking about how it would be totally possible that two people could meet each other on same planet, just very unlikely because universe is big.
He wasn't saying that it will be possible after an update later, he was claiming it was possible at release.
This was proven to be on of the lies.
say's multiple times no man's sky is multiplayer before launch
it was not multiplayer
CONTINUES to say it's multiplayer after launch "it's just unlikely you'll ever see another player because it's so big"
Nothing will ever in a million years make this okay. Saying "my game is multiplayer" when it is not multiplayer has got to be the clearest case of malicious false advertising literallly EVER done in vidya history. There is no universe where this is ever remotely okay and I cannot believe he got away with it without lawsuits.
Sean didn't lie about anything,
You're lying now, just like Sean Murray and his whole team. Yes, the whole team, they were all lying for a common good: to keep their shitty devhouse alive after a few mobile games that weren't paying the bills.
I'm not even going to waste time looking for the interviews to post here because this is common knowledge. The only argument you can use against the material the media has published is: "actually all these journalists from all these different outlets made up all these quotes, and put the devs' names after them".
I played the game a couple of months ago and I'm really not impressed.
It just feels like you're doing busy work at every planet you go to with no sense of progression or direction. Even if this is in the intention of just being an explorer it doesn't feel like you're really accomplishing anything. You also can't do anything together in co-op, you're essentially all playing single player in the same universe without anything shared.
Lying works, telling people to wait doesn't.
It honestly amazes me how many people don't get this. Redemption is meant to be for genuine mistakes.
Absolutely wrong. Redemption is literally meant for evil done. You correct a mistake, but when you do wrong you have to be redeemed. If there's not avenue for turning away from evil, you're just going to encourage people to not even try to change their ways...which is the norm nowadays.
The NMS dev owning up to his error and going out of his way to make it right with his playerbase is the best outcome for a situation like this.
Like I said that was a planned feature that had to be cut due to the strict schedule. His deal with sony meant he wasn't allowed to just de hype his game by saying none of those features will exist because sony wanted a game out right now.
Lying makes you money but it doesn't make a good game. I've never seen a better example of a polished turd than no man's sky. It is exactly what you would expect from an incompetent developer that was given unlimited resources and a decade to continue their shitty game that should have been abandoned as a failed tech demo.
I'm annoyed at myself for falling for it 10 years after the fact and giving them money.
That's an awful lot of words to say he did in fact lie.
The NMS dev owning up to his error and going out of his way to make it right with his playerbase is the best outcome for a situation like this.
Lol, no, and you're acting like a cuckold here.
The only way for him to redeem himself would be to fund some pro-consumer rights organization that would start severely punishing all devs who sell games from false advertising. Doing real justice for consumers is how you redeem yourself after committing consumer fraud.
Continuing to release updates for what is - to this day - essentially a mobile game, and continuing to profit from the project is not redemption, it never will be, because his crime wasn't releasing a bad game, it was lying about basically everything in order to sell that bad game, just like scammers do.
The only way for him to redeem himself would be to fund some pro-consumer rights organization that would start severely punishing all devs who sell games from false advertising.
So you're a non-serious contrarian. I'll stop here then.
I'm just showing you why you think like a cuckold. But you can continue in your delusion.
Nice trying weaseling out of it but it's still a lie no matter how much you're trying to pretend otherwise.
by saying none of those features will exist
What kind of retarded argument is that?
How about 'it will be there by Friday, in 1.1 patch because we didn't make it before release' instead of 'it's totally there RIGHT NOW, you just can't see it lol because the space is beeeeeeg'.
I know. That doesn't make it right though, Sean Murray isn't some shy autist he's a fucking unrepentant scammer.
It's nice that they kept working on their game and improved it, but he lied about gameplay features up to days before release, when he knew they weren't in the game. Nothing changes that.
in my headcanon sony told him that he had to lie to everyone so he's just a spineless liar rather than a malicious one
I don't care.
break in and steal a bunch of shit from your house
break in again over the years and give it back slowly
never admit I did anything wrong
So by your logic? That's ok right? As long as you make up for it it's fine it you don't even acknowledge fault?
NTA but a sincere redemption would require him to actually acknowledge what he did wrong instead of pretending he was a wittle guy who dared to dream. Even for the people who don't give a shit about that and think redemption can come from finally releasing a good game, that didn't happen either. The game itself doesn't exist, it's a bunch of unrelated bullet point features that they worked on to absolve themselves of the sin of lying but none of it meshes into a coherent or compelling game.
Nigga he tweeting about how he was surprised that players couldn't see eachother in game AFTER it released. Why do you want to suck this liar's cock so much?
people here can't stop sucking Todd Howard's cock
can't forgive our boy Sean even though he fixed everything
Yeah I'll never understand it either. Never seen anything like it. Not only that, but instead of being viewed with suspicion, Hello Games how have a massive fan base. Make it make sense..
He didn't break into a house negroid anon, he sold a game lacking all the features it promised which in turn were added in time instead of completely abandoning the game.
And to the Americuck who can only think in porn terms, the fact he's completing his game sheds light on the visionaries that didn't which is exactly the kind of proconsumer shit you believe he should be advocating, if he didn't he'd look like an ass calling out other devs for something he's guilty of, a hypocrite, unless you believe games like Spore or Fable would've been redeemed if EA or Molineux went out of their way to legislate "incomplete" games, the same people who sell complete chunks of them as DLC, unlike Hello Games who gives away substantial free updates ever since the game came out.
What game are they working now? Or did they decide to scrap the company?
I don't even have a problem with Peter Molyneux because I stand by the opinion that he was never malicious when he was bullshitting about his games, he was just genuinely a head in the clouds ambitious boomer running his mouth too much years before release. What Sean did was much more manipulative and aimed at tricking people into a purchase, then the subsequent attempts to fix the game weren't aimed at making the game good they were the sort of action a person takes so they could no longer be accused of lying.
No man's sky 2 electric boogaloo, fantasy edition.
"What is an analogy"
You're retarded. It's ok, many such cases.
He was clearly pressured by the hype that built around it, he made a mistake and he admitted it.
He was clearly pressured by the hype that built around it
Stop making up stuff to suck his dick. Just because you saw a YouTube video doesn't mean it's a fact you retarded zoomer.
>he made a mistake and he admitted it.
He never did though. Find me one instance of him admitting to lying. Just one.
Starfield redeemed him
then the subsequent attempts to fix the game weren't aimed at making the game good they were the sort of action a person takes so they could no longer be accused of lying.
What a weird fucking cope, a grifter wouldn't offer free support, updates and expansions if this shit was just a cashgrab.
It's hard to have sympathy when the cause of the hype was all the lying about it that he then supposedly felt the need to lie more, to do what? Avoid being exposed before the money came in?
When Peter was bullshitting about fable he was just saying stupid shit to game journalists years before release about how you could plant a seed and it would grow into a tree, it's just him spitballing ideas that occured to him in that second. Lionhead never made trailers near to launch full of fake graphics that made ridiculous grandeous claims like "every atom procedural"
Not only did he redeem himself but he will become king if its good.
Pretty sure he was under legal pressure to do all of that. He's not a good man anon. I'm sorry he fooled you.
it's just him spitballing ideas that occured to him in that second
under legal pressure to do all of that
You faggots are completely deranged in your contrarianism.
If you want to keep your job and your studio that is actually the only choice you could make. I didn't call him a grifter, I'm not sure what he is. I feel like their game is incredibly strange and the only explanation is there is an intense desire to absolve themselves of having lied which has resulted in a jumble of pointless bullet point mechanics that were sold to you a decade ago.
isn't this shit still missing like half the features the fucker lied about?
the whole "NO MAN'S SKY REDEEMED ITSELF IT'S GOOD NOW" was a pure marketing scheme.
Peter telling a game journalist you can plant trees in fable years before release does not count as lying you moron. Nothing in the game is finalised at that point and everything that will eventually be in the game is at that same level of blue sky thinking. Had Sean said all the shit he did about NMS to journalists years before release id just chalk it up to the same ambition hitting reality but he didn't, he was lying right up till release and their trailers doubled down on false advertising.
How is it contrarian at all? You know that false advertising is a crime right? Quickly patching stuff like multiplayer in asap was a good way to cover his arse. I don't think taking the money and running would even have been an option.
I pirated his game recently game after everyone said it was "fixed" and it was still the most boring shit in the world
ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: TAKE 500 STEPS
His biggest mistake was not hiring a marketer once the game had funding. Doing so would've avoided him falling under the media's pressure and confounding works in progress/scrapped ideas for actual ingame features.
I don't think he was malicious, but his team should've tried to get him to shut up once he started making more outlandish claims to impress the media.
That wasn't part of the dishonesty. There never looked to be anything to actually do in it. That's legitimately on the buyers.
Yeah you have to wonder why he lied in the first place. It was most likely a grimy PR move to lock in sales without having to mark something as early access. Then get the planned features out as fast as possible to regain good will. Clearly this scummy marketing strategy worked out, surprised no one else has tried it.
nta, but the same reason I don't want other things (like shooting, walking/driving, or jumping) on a toggle.
i'll give him credit for continually shitting out free updates and not just disappearing with the money, but i'll never trust a word he says
make shitty game
THIS GAME SUCKS ALL YOU DO IS CLICK ROCKS
add basebuilding and cars
HE FIXED IT I LOVE CLICKING ROCKS
Deal with Sony.
I recenty played NMS again and it's just as boring as it always was.
There is a lot more content but none of it is appealing
To me NMS is a glimpse of what games made by AI might look like. It's not just soulless, there is a level beyond that which no other game does.
i mean the fact that he is STILL making updates for this fucking game a decade later its comendable
I thought so to, till I played it and realised the game is still unfinished and still needs updates to even meet what a normal studio would settle for as a minimum viable product.
yeah i played it at release and not realy
there is SO much shit to do now, you dont just get resources
thats is just early game shit
the space combat is neat getting new ships is neat
i love the mech it makes moving around much better
this game is basicaly what starforge should had been at release
He has, the game is fun.
Complaints like come from people that don't understand that NMS was not meant to be a space RPG. It's simply Space Minecraft. Nobody complaints Minecraft is a rock smashing sim.
I didn't play it at release so I'm not infected by the incredibly low standards that it forced onto you. The flight, space combat, ground combat, base building, missions, writing, even the procedural generation itself all feels incredibly bare bones.
NMS in VR
The VR interface is too annoying if you want do anything with your inventory, and NMS is full of inventory management
It's nice for looking around and works OK for flying your ship even with motion controllers, but I rarely use VR in NMS
Excavating a ruin like its Power Wash Simulator VR was kinda satisfying althoughbeit
compared to what?
sprint is a toggle but vehicle boost is hold
WHY
Same probably. I'm pretty hyped for it, but deep down I know I'll be disappointed when it's finally released. As usual, I'll wait for a few days to see the user/shill reviews, etc. My confidence level in all of these companies is in the shitter, and for good reason.
Choose the rules for the experience you want
Every single game that does anything this game is trying to do. Space combat isn't even on the level of arcade flight combat games make by 1 guy let alone a game like elite, I get that isn't the main focus but I expect more after 10 years of development and massive funding. Ground combat is fucking abysmal by any standards. The procedural generation is worse than minecraft as is the crafting, the procedural creatures are sub spore their retarded, exploration is worse than any shitty open world game released in the last 20 years, and much worse than competitors like subnautica.
This game does alot of shit very, very badly. I have no idea why anyone gives a shit about it besides it being a screen saver generator.
no
it runs like ass
