Picking Eiji Aonuma as the head of the Zelda series was a mistake
Picking Eiji Aonuma as the head of the Zelda series was a mistake
the Zelda series was a mistake
You already made this thread Eric and nobody cared so start to samefagging hard.
The last two mainline flagship Zelda games are amongst the most acclaimed and successful games of the past 30 years.
What metric are you measuring him by?
I've known this since 2006. Both Wind Waker and Twilight princess were dogshit compared to OOT and MM
There is a timeline where Miyazaki took control of the series instead of Aonuma
That would have been based
Both Wind Waker and Twilight princess were dogshit compared to OOT and MM
He was one of the main lead designers on OoT and MM was his baby.
Not even true. OOT had 3 other directors and Fedora's Mask was mostly Koizumi both heavily supervised by Miyamoto. The moment he took full control of the series it went to shit.
No shit. He didn't even beat the first game lol
OOT had 3 other directors and Fedora's Mask was mostly Koizumi both heavily supervised by Miyamoto. The moment he took full control of the series it went to shit.
Stop talking shit absolute you retarded fucking zoomer. Being a hardcore Zelda fan, I don't even need google know how much you're fucking lying.
He didn't even beat the first game
Neither did you. You needed a guide.
i beat it years ago when i was a kid. aonuma is a retard
Being a hardcore zelda fan and approving of a hack like aonuma makes your opinion irrelevant. he's a fucking disgrace and made the series a joke
Miyamoto and Koizumi came up with the story that served as the basis for the script written by Mitsuhiro Takano
Koizumi said the idea of the moon falling came from one of his dreams.
Aonuma recruited Koizumi, who was designing a repeatable "cops-and-robbers" game that would allow players to have a different experience each time they played it. Together, they adapted Koizumi's game into the three-day system to "make the game data more compact while still providing deep gameplay".
huh, that's weird. all the major design elements came from someone else. you'd think a
hardcore Zelda fan
by which you mean a big fat faggot, would know that. you don't even know a thing about your favourite thing. that's fucking sad. zelda is all you've got, and you don't even care about it enough to do basic reading on the subject.
approving of a hack like aonuma makes your opinion irrelevant
She says this, while shitposting on Anon Babble.
Meanwhile the last two Zelda games have 96/97 metacritic ratings and over 50 million copies sold on a single platform.
No wonder the series is dogshit. He doesn't even do his job
BOTW and TOTK were better than shit like WW and TP but Aonuma was still a mistake. the bad parts about BOTW and TOTK were probably because of Aonuma. The oracle games made by Fujibayashi were better than WW and TP
this retard is in charge of the series
hard to imagine how shit Zelda would have been if Miyamoto was in charge. there would be a "Zelda Mandate" eventually.
go watch the video of Aonuma showing Miyamoto Breath of the Wild and how he starts asking about dungeons almost immediately. Zelda has never and will never be about just dungeons, old man.
The oracle games
Capcom romhacks. Probably the only Zelda games I could never be bothered to finish.
Based Miyamoto. He also hated Shitnuma's art style for WW. Zelda really needs a mandate.
hard to imagine how shit Zelda would have been if Miyamoto was in charge.
Aonuma and Miyamoto are both fucking money greedy lazy as fuck hacks that ruined the Zelda series forever.
Can't even play the original LoZ on a mechanical level or the first 3D Zeldas, yet insists on meddling into gameplay design
Not only poor at estimating the scope of a project and keeping it on track, but enables others who are just as bad at doing it, leading to games that take longer and longer to make without outside influence that tells them to get their shit ready on time
Yes. Even if Japanese work culture is better than western work culture in a few respects, it is still shit and routinely leads to incompetent people rising in the company.
Majora's Mask was also made in a year and the schedule was massively tight. When given the chance to remake it with Grezzo, he made a lot of decisions that ruined the controls because he can't handle acceleration in 3D games.
The series would not be recognizable as 3D Zelda, given that he wanted OoT to be an FPS game and promoted FPS games over and over.
Zelda has never and will never be about just dungeons, old man
Dungeons represent structured content and locations that feel like more than just something an intern threw together. There is a reason that people like them.
People like them for the same reason they hate timelimits. Filthy casuals
there would be a "Zelda Mandate" eventually.
You mean like how Aonuma tried to make Wind Waker the artistic standard for the series IMMEDIATELY after taking over?
No, I mean the need to always have the triforce and maintain strict placement in a timeline.
Aonuma cynically pandering to journalists and outsiders who didn't give a shit about Zelda before the Switch is a good thing because muh sales
The only reason this isn't the case anymore is because Fujibayashi doesn't care about contradicting himself.
BotW just outright throws everything and the kitchen sink into the game to the point that the Koroks are just 1:1 Wind Waker aesthetics.
you cant even call them zelda games anymore. open world skyrim slop was a mistake.
hard to imagine how shit Zelda would have been if Miyamoto was in charge.
When Miyamoto was in charge the series was the most acclaimed videogame series in the world. Every since Aonuma took control it's been a joke
still better than garbage like twilight princess. oblivion made twilight princess irrelevant in 2006
Meanwhile the real mastermind of Zelda is locked into fucking Mario, never receiving credit for any of his significant contributions to the series. There's no way OoT would have been as big as it was if it wasn't for him.
Nintendo needs to stop making great video games!!
But they already did about a decade ago.
mastermind? he wasn't even involved in ALTTP ( the best zelda game)
aonuma's game design
Koizumi's first involvement was LTTP, he was assigned to make the instruction manual but he eventually ended up making the overworld map and came up with the concept of the three goddesses and Ganon because he saw how bare ones it was.
Barebones*

standard for the series IMMEDIATELY
Literally after every mainline Zelda the art-style sticks around for awhile. It happened with OoT, and TP aswell, it's just an era before the next eventual shift, same thing is happening with BotW.
same thing is happening with BotW.
It was revealed in 2014 and it's now 2025. This is the new look for Zelda going forward, not the gameplay, but the look.
Not to the extent he did with WW, and you goddamn well know it. 7 new mainline games were released in the 2000s under Aonuma. Only fucking one of them DIDN'T have WW's art style (Twilight Princess).
Four Swords
Wind Waker
Four Swords Adventures
Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Zelda series' only shortcoming is that Majora's Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess released unfinished, especially Wind Waker
kwab
Name a better adventure game than BotW/TotK.
I'll wait.
There's no such thing as a bad Zelda game. Even the worst Zelda game is still better than 99% of all other video games ever made.
Tri Force Heroes and Skyward Sword were bad. I'd wager Echoes of Wisdom is a tight third.
I wouldn't call Triforce Heroes a real Zelda game. It's in the Crossbow Training division of spinoff from the core series.
There isn't a developer on this planet who would cut their arm off to make a game like Skyward Sword or EoW's quality.
Skyward Sword is in my opinion better than Twilight Princess on the actual "gameplay" front but worse in overall aesthetic/artstyle (except for town NPCs of which there are very very few in SS anyways and are almost unanimously hideous in TP)
Tri Force Heroes I've never played but it seemed like bargain-bin Four Swords because they didn't want to ask Capcom to develop another game and they'd already poached Fujibayashi ages ago
ehm he made this idiot
It's a mainline game, every mainline Zelda game has The Legend of Zelda in its name or the logo with miscellaneous exceptions like BS The Legend of Zelda and so on. Link's Crossbow Training lacks The Legend of Zelda title.
if you like the old formula, you're an OOTsnoy that hates fun
b-but all zelda games are incredibly high quality
PIck one, Arthur.
I have at least 6 different copies of OoT on various systems. Including collectors editions. How many do you own?
I own 6 copies of a game I hate
lel
a game I hate
No such thing. OoT was one of the greatest games of all time 30 years ago. Much like BotW/TotK are considered today.
Nintendo have been consistently making the best games in the world for me to play, for 40 years straight. Feels good being a gaming fan who has enjoyed great games all my life.
No such thing. OoT was one of the greatest games of all time 30 years ago.
but I never, ever want to play it again
That is the opposite of reality, how the fuck do you even arrive at the opposite of fucking reality. You can just go look around at all the statistics, ask anybody, and you are befaced with reality.
but I never, ever want to play it again
I have it on NSO. Even the N64 controller for the most authentic experience.
THen if its so good, you should have no problem with someone preferring it over BOTW and TOTK. Or do you think nobody is allowed an opinion that disagrees with the mainstream?
THen if its so good, you should have no problem with someone preferring it over BOTW and TOTK.
If you want to play 30 year old games then have at it. I'll look forward to the next Zelda masterpiece. Can't wait to see what Nintendo do with Switch 2.
Water is wet, what a shock!
this game sucks because it's too old
lol so much for being a zelda fan.
Who are you quoting?
And why didn't you answer my question about how many copies of OoT you own? Do even own a single copy? Did you even own a single Nintendo system? Fake fan.
I own one copy, the N64 cartridge. Specifically 1.1. The one that removed the muslim chanting from the fire temple, but before they changed the moon symbol of the gerudo.
I like OOT, but there's no reason for me to buy it 6 times over. Doesn't make any sense. IF I want to play it again, I'll just emulate it on PC with the tons of QOL features, or maybe ship of harkinian. You're probably gonna say something dumb like "eww emulators can't capture the soul of the original" so there's really no point arguing with you. We've already done this song and dance 100 times before, and you keep acting retarded. Not sure if you're doing it intentionally, or if you just have a problem. It doesn't matter to me either way.
I own one copy, the N64 cartridge
No you don't.
Why say that? Would it somehow kill your argument if I actually did play the games long before the first N64 emulator was even out of beta testing? And what would happen if I did have the original N64 cartridge? would you actually consider my viewpoints to be valid, or would you come up with another excuse? I'll let you think on that.
Why say that?
Because you have never once mentioned it before. You're only experience of Zelda is through emulation. You even despise OoT so much you have a save file so you don't need to play through the opening Kokiri Forest section.
The reality is that you are deranged Nintendo hater who is completely mindbroken by BotW/TotK.
Elden Ring lmao
These threads only solidify that BotW and TotK are Zelda games for people who hated/didn't care about Zelda before the Switch.
Yep. You know he was being carried when he made shitty games like WW and TP
koizumi came up with the three goddesses
suddenly them getting shafted completely for hylia makes more sense, they're part of anomura's seethe
Real talk, Aonumale zeldas began with ALTTP
It really feels like BotW (and to an extent SS) was Aonuma's defiant way to finally make Zelda firmly "his".
doing away with Link's left-handedness, a reflection of his original creator (Miyamoto)
doing away with the original trio of goddesses (Koizumi)
killing the green tunic and hat as the "mascot" design of Link
doing a cel-shaded artstyle again after it was rejected by most fans in the 2000s
scrapping much of the gameplay structure and hallmarks of the series up until then, in favor of chasing trends popular in western open world and sandbox games, to replace the old fanbase
