The more times i play KH2 the more I realize that the combat system wasn't just great on it's own. It's about visual clarity.
KH2 was a cartoony game, with bright colors and simple visuals that didn't have a lot of overflowing detail on characters or arenas, making it very easy for the player's brain to pick out and respond to shit as it was happening.

Remake/Rebirth have crushed shadows, and everything a fireworks show so you barely know what's going.

Yes great point. I played Rebirth on PS5Poor, and on that the screen became unreadable smeary mess during battles to the point I had to rely on audio cues to get timings right which wasn't ideal either because of how loud everything else is but it was doable.

Also KH2FM has way better RPG progression where you feel you're getting stronger. In Rebirth I barely noticed when I level up and the only thing I really cared about was materia.

KH2 getting a 7.6 from IGN was well deserved.

I'm at the point where I am willing to swear SE just kinda lucked out with KH2's combat system. It's clearly not anything they're capable of replicating (see KH3) so I'm guessing no one at the company understands what made it good.

It has taken people a while to realize how fucking and irredeemably dumb the decision to split the game into 3 is. Unfortunately I am not sure people realize how unplayable the entire trilogy will be when it is finished, playing all FF7 3 remakes is going to be a bigger time commitment than playing Persona 3-5 together. Practically everyone I know of who has played Rebirth told me "yeah that was cool, but I am glad it is finally over". Good luck to playing part 3 after playing Rebirth.
