In Doom Eternal there are few rooms that looks really nice with raytracing on. But then again it's just few rooms and when you played it before the RTX patch you never really felt like something was missing. In many cases it's just a nice thing but unless you compare RTX on vs RTX off you don't really know that you're missing something. It's like that with most graphic settings honestly.

I have a 4080. Frame gen is good only if you're having decent frames to begin with. Otherwise it introduces TV tier delay. Ray tracing is a gay meme. I see no possible instance where turning it on and it taking away at least a third of my framerate is warranted either due to an advantage or looking substantially better than without it. Not to mention the delays in lighting like in the HL2 RTX demo recently.

Enthusiasts will own a XX80 card which is already 1k, and more budget conscious gamers will get a XX70 class card. Even the 3070Ti can do RT with DLSS, the problem is that games run like dogshit on EVERY class of hardware including the 90 cards, and what do you get in exchange? Fancier reflections? Slightly more convincing shadows? How does that affect the gameplay? At least when you push your 4090 to 120fps you get a more responsive game. People are mad about system requirements because the graphics don't justify the demand in computing power, how come 10 years old games look sharper, cleaner, better than modern UE5 slop at a fraction of the processing power?

I work with Nvida's enterprise range (A, H etc) and the geforce lineup is not fit for anything outside of amateur workloads like game dev, small local machine learning models, basic 3D etc

Then with my RTX2070, I had to upgrade my potato.
Today with my RTX3090, I have to upgrade my potato.

And art has always been important. Not so much "graphics", which is the technical part, but the art itself.
For example, ray tracing is extremely useful for generating more convincing atmospheric effects, and atmospheric effects are extremely useful for generating immersion. However, ray tracing in games is not the real thing, it comes with severe trade offs which, in my experience, are NEVER worth it. And I'm not just talking about performance, I'm talking about things like reflections and lights behaving in such an unrealistic way that what should increase immersion ends up decreasing it.
