It's a good jrpg they said, when I was hungry for one. I actually bought Rorona, Totori and Meruru, and never opened the latter 2, since Rorona was such a fucking shit show.

DeS makes you think about how to approach stuff. FF13 is just set up menu bullshit, level up your skills and mash auto and paradigm shift. Not to mention the hallways.
The worst kind of game is a where you don't think at all even fighting new things or exploring new territory.

My memories of Rorona was that it was super "clunky" even for a turn based rpg.
I liked it until the dragon that drops down on you a bit after killing Penetrator. Why does every souls game have to have a dragon that comes out of nowhere and shits sperg lazers everywhere
yep, they were gimmicky and mostly easy but they were also memorable and interesting, nowadays they focus so much on the spectacle and the combat that they have to let you respawn right outside of the fog gate to avoid frustration, and everyone is so anime and bombastic that they don't feel that special individually anymore
they do like their "dragon periodically firing on a narrow passage" trope
Don't forget that every boss needs to have three phases
multiple phases on one life are ok but I hate bosses that respawn with a new healthbar, I'm literally playing a bossrush at that point

Combat and boss fights in 13 was more engaging than stuff like 7 to be honest. 13 has a couple actually challenging boss fights in the story like Barthandelus.
7 I brute forced Sephiroth with no tactics or knowledge of the fight and no maxed out characters and best gear.
