why did tlou became so popular in the first place?
it genuinely has no difference from your average zombie story
i guess the only difference is that the zombies have mushrooms on their heads???
Why did tlou became so popular in the first place?
faggots
retard
I enjoyed the brutal violence
It did a better job communicating to its audience that it was a story about people and not zombies. Also normies get rock fucking hard for surrogate dad sims
By appealing to non-gamers
It's a mystery for me. I haven't played the first one. It looks like a very generic third action game.
faggot
third person action*
For a lot of people, it was their first “mature” videogame that truly felt like playing through a movie rather than a videogame. Sure, other games have had mature themes. But something like GTA or GoW still felt incredibly game-y, unrealistic, or silly compared to something like TLOU
WHOLESOME
CHUNGUS
MASCULINITY
It was the first game released for the ps3 so naturally it was quite popular.
I'll never understand the popularity of zombies.
First proper stealth game since Splinter Cell
It was the best looking game on the PS3 at the very end of it's life cycle and it was basically a playable movie which made everyone, especially those who don't already play games, interested. It's why people back then were touting it as the game that would change games forever, and in a way it did.
Because a kid dies in the beginning. Take that out and you have nothing to hook you in
game is objectively a very high quality tps with good graphics and brutal violence. Even if story-wise it's trite and a bit naive, what more would you need to succeed?
GTA or GoW
So, consolebabbies who only play console games.
Story was entirely written by a Zionist Jew who made the religious factions that you massacre in the likeness of Palestinians (Yes, he really did say they were made based on Palestinians) and the troon kills the character from the first game everyone loved then fucks up his surrogate daughter too.
It's just a completely fucking dogshit story written by a pretentious cunt who seems himself as "God's Chosen" and truly believes he's Divine and can't do anything wrong and that everything he does is a masterpiece of the highest caliber.
Whether people are actually aware of it or not, and whether they are willing to admit to it or not, it's just really funny and fulfilling to be making fun a Jew for thinking he's somewhat better than he truly is.
Reminder that he also shoehorned in a part of the story that just focuses around you randomly just happening to enter an abandoned synagogue while the side character, who is Jewish, gives you exposition about Judaism and lectures you on it and how their people have been oppressed for as long as they existed, and you can't shoot at or destroy anything inside the synagogue like you could in any other location in-game. The environment is all just static instead of dynamic. You can't do shit to the Satanic stars or Torah or anything else like that. You're supposed to just look at and admire them.
Honestly after replaying it a few years ago it's also a mystery to me. The original game is a clunky mess with a plot that's just a mix of popular post-apo tropes and stories (mostly Damnation Alley and the Road). We were replaying it with roommates and one of my friends predicted the entire plot before they've even left LA.
Ironically despite all the hate it gets, the sequel has both much better gameplay and better writing, though it still has lots of major flaws
I guess it must be
It was fun.
It was a film they could pretend they were playing. And it was written, acted and looked better than other games that had already done that shit.
Not that that says much when the competition was David Cage games.
sony went all out on marketing
they even contacted and complained to journalists who didn't give TLOU2 a 10/10
massive amounts of entry tier consumers entering the industry and vapid english majors desperately trying to make a buck by being the best little reviewer a company on payroll could ask for.
Dunno, still haven't played it to this day. From the outside looking in, it just looked like typical movie game slop.
Because soap operas are popular and tlou games are one.
The first one, sure. The second is very divisive and mostly loved by certain people for that reason and because of the gay tranny stuff in it.
Not to blow this game too hard but most games are about BIG EVENTS and interpersonal dialogue is just lazy set dressing, TLoU does this backwards which makes you like the characters more and give less of a shit about the complete nonsense zombie cure bullshit they got running in the back.
People love sucking off JRPGs for having good writing but by and large thats a fucking lie, not one Final Fantasy has what you would call GREAT writing, and TLoU 1 easily clears the mark of braindead retards who think shit like FF or Breath of Fire have transcendent writing. (Note Im not saying TLOU is a well written masterpiece)
PS3
basically a playable movie which made everyone, especially those who don't already play games, interested
shaaawn shaaawn shaaawn shaaawn shaaawn
cuckman successfully psyoped you niggers into paying 60 bucks for a movie twice, more if you fell the 10,000 remasters
it genuinely has no difference from your average zombie story
It has better gameplay, writing, graphics, story, presentation, animations than any other zombie game of the time
this. The Last of Us is a very mid game. Nothing particularly amazing. Gameplay is especially basic-to-broken.
and interpersonal dialogue is just lazy set dressing,
how can you say this with a straight face when half of TLOU is just listening to people talk while carrying ladders or pallets around for your NPC to progress?
Sony shilling this one game as a must play and Playstation dominated the gen
lol you're a retard, who doesn't understand much if you think it has anything to do with zombies being a product of some fungal infection lol.
jewish nepotism
Because THE TALKING that Im talking about happens there, Im not saying the game is good, Im saying the dialogue is more realistic and better than the general standard laid out by games with "Good writing" that came before it. People arent constantly talking about "Objective". People dont plainly state their attributes like the player is 5, these are good qualities of writing.
yeah it's a fucking console game you dolt, for ps3 came out over a decade ago. yes console babbies play console games is this a huge revalation to you??
It's genuinely baffling. It's a blatant rip off of The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Telltale Walking Dead game. Even the gameplay was unbelievably generic and widespread.
Telltale Walking Dead had already done that a year ago.
Seven Gen Snoy power. I went to school with a guy who had a 'The Last of us' wallpaper on his computer before it came out.
A friend of mine called TLOU2 "Jewish Manhunt".
For all the talk of popularity we didn't even get that many zombie games.
Did you really not pick up on the 'Children of Men' influence? The game was even about the virus killing all the women (removing that element makes the importance of Ellie nonsensical and never justified or explained).
aaaaaaaaaargh I am angry I am clenching my fists and hitting my monitor this is outrageous how could you post this?
Happy?
Appeals to women.
Game actually isn't that hard.
Even if it is hard, you get full enjoyment out of just watching your boyfriend play it.
All of the men are rough and grizzly, but they all have some sort of "personal trauma" that belies a soft side, while also showing sides of supportiveness (the opposite of what men want).
All of the women were "normal" or "average" looking while not being "enslaved" to any man (read: Ugly bitches that try to act like men, i.e. the opposite of what men want).
All of the dialogue is spoken in low voices with people getting into conflicts with each other's personalities as opposed to any high-level discussion of courses of action or inter-continental politics. (they get into domestic-abuse level fights to work through their "issues" instead of worrying about survival)
Lots of dramatic immersion shots of silence and nature.
Insane focus on production values because women cannot stand using their imagination.
Women in general just love zombie scenarios for some reason even though it freaks tons of them out. Speculation: They probably get off on the idea of being in a dangerous world and being protected by men.
From the ground up, it's hard engineered to cater to women first, and at best be inoffensive to men. This allows it to hit all audiences. Couple that with a big-name studio able to buy out advertising like crazy, and viola: One contrived recipe for forced success.
tl;dr Women ruin everything.
humans are the real monsters also there's fungus zombies
wow 10/10 I never knew video games could be art until now - circa Roger Ebert 2025 LLM
TWD is a better game yes. But Telltale games are niche
Functionally they are identical. Virus, fungus, alien life form, magical curse. Everyone died, got turned into monsters, world is fucked and the story follows the survivors.
The minutia of the details don't change the overall genre.
What really happened is it really took off when the DLC came out, making Ellie a lesbian. It happened during a time when tumblr users would go crazy about any homosexual romances depicted in media. Just like the ending of korra they made her gay to sppeal to tumblr users. This was around the time the US Supreme Court made its decision on gay marriage. Literally people just basedjakking at a gay character in a video game. Sue there was the ending too that had people talking, but really it was just a cultural moment where people thought it was the most amazing thing that a game had a gay character.
What if zombies but, get this, humans are the real monsters. Now video games are truly art! We have finally advanced beyond Mario Bros!
You suffer from irony poisoning
TWD won GOTY back in 2012 (sure Geoff's celebrity ass licking show doesn't mean much but still) and was all the hype back then even if the genre was niche.
lol okay, please explain how TLOU is a exceptional masterpiece that tore the art scene asunder.
For all the talk of popularity we didn't even get that many zombie games.
Maybe not games, but in the rest of media it's absurd.
I think The Last of Us is the worst game ever and I have cried reading Umineko.
There's the shitty tv show that goes forever for fat Americans and not a lot else.
all the people who defends this game are millenial man, doe?
Hype from gamers, not normies
I have cried reading Umineko.
And why should I care about what a tranime faggot thoughts are lmao, TLOU haters are just contrarian weebs
Correct. Those Millenial "Men" are sissified faggots with woman-like ways of thinking.
Still, I still can't understand how the hell did tlou ever managed to get this big. I remember the marketing was huge back in 2012 and all the gaymers and journos going "WOW! SO PRETTY AND BRUTAL!" but that doesn't really explain it.
Did you really not pick up on the 'Children of Men' influence?
Haven't read that one yet, though I have it on my list. Just another proof of how utterly unoriginal tlou was
Vocal minority. You're probably talking to at most 10 people, maybe less with sock puppet accounts, in any general pocket of internet. Game sold 30 million copies, and you're in a thread talking to maybe 15 people right now, most of whom are shitting on it.
But also what said.
this is just pure cope. women had barely anything to do with tlous current popularity. the game had (and still has) a largely male fanbase, ''sissified'' or not.
The movie, Neil Druckmann probably doesn't even know it was a book. The game's opening is still the car chase from Children of Men. And its aesthetic is just Children of Men shifted to America (even when that doesn't make sense, like nobody having a gun).
Filtered. You have to not be a nigger to get it.
TLOU haters are just contrarian weebs
it's funny how every TLOU2fag thought the S2 would win everyone over and it was just the gamergate chuds that hated the sequel.
why did tlou became so popular in the first place?
IGN reviewers and other gaming outlets so desperate to be taken seriously along side the other entertainment mediums. So they skewed the perception of this game to to trick the general masses that this game was the pinnacle of video game stories.
In every thread about these games, the zombies are mentioned maybe 5% of the time. In other words, it's your average zombie story. I don't know why people eat this shit up, but that's just how it is. Maybe L4D counts as breaking the mold, but it barely has a story in the first place.
There's the shitty tv show that goes forever for fat Americans and not a lot else.
Are we ignoring everything made after Night of the Living Dead came out?
it was the culmination of sony's marketing strategy that started with the first playstation and appealed to insecure millenials who were desperate for videogames to stop being seen as a childish hobby
this is where all that horseshit about videogames being... le art!! comes from and you can't understand this slop's success if you don't keep in mind the sony audience is composed in majority of faggots who never owned up to playing games as a hobby, it had to be seen as something akin to watching movies and even more, like it had to make profound statements about what it means to be human and all that midwit cocksuckery and tlou is the realization of that
Anyone who's played games non casually, can appreciate the story, dialogue, and characters of the first game(The second's are hot garbage) But the gameplay is really nothing special. It really would work better as a movie or show. And it's funny how the shows adaption of the second game's story might be gearing up to be even worse
Zombie stuff has always come out at a rate that strikes me as fairly reasonable relative to other pop culture hits.
It really would work better as a movie or show
Nobody who appreciates the possibilities of film or television has ever said this.
Nobody who appreciates the possibilities of film or television has ever said this.
why wouldnt it work as a movie or a show?
It did a better job communicating to its audience that it was a story about people
Only among people who have never seen anything in the genre. Almost every zombie media since Dawn of the Dead has been aping the same story and characters for like 50 years now.
Because it's vapid dogshit. The first game lacks any kind of coherent aesthetic foundation or direction because Druckmann was forced to compromise with boring standard industry inoffensive shit. While the second is the worst auteur video game of all time, but at least is a more justified experience than Counter Strike with randoms for the personal presence of Neil. You can explore all of his neurosis through it.
How do the possibilities of staged, acted, and edited cinematic sequence work with this base material and elevate it?
still waiting...
Went from TLOU to the sequel, deflection
I just like the ryona
TLOU's story is so fucking surface level it really does baffle me how it gets called a masterpiece
to the sequel,
bro just let us kill her, I herd u can create a vaxx to kill mushrooms like didn't you go to science school? it's basically an infection.
Yeah bro anime is better fr fr, i literally cried when reading umineko bro
It's emotional bait, the first true Hollywood experience in gaming.
I agree, but only the first couple "of the dead" films had decent characters, most zoomers and millenials have only been exposed to complete slop with abysmal writing and characters
Normalfags are the Minecraft Movie/The Boys/Invincible/Stranger Things/Queen's Gambit/Sonic The Hedgehog Movie/Handmaid's Tale/Westworld consumers. They are so used to goyslop, that anything with a big budget is the next big thing to them. Any person on the screen is the new hotness. They have no preferences. No opinions. Just thing on tv. The same goes for AAA games. If it's there, if it's on a commercial, if their youtuber best friend says to buy it, then they buy it.
With butch dykes?
Daddy instincts.
TLOU 1 was genuinely a good story about family, loss, letting go, fear of abandonment, children in the apocalypse.
TLOU 2 is about revenge, hatred, dudeee weed, teen lesbians. shit writing all around.
the gameplay is pretty good and enjoyable in both, especially the combat and stealth. the puzzles are retard proof but whatever.
No the enemies and to a lesser extent Dina and Mel
It appealed to women with le emotional story.
It's not baffling at all. Most vidya stories are abhorrent dogshit and the original TLOU story is good for a video game, so it seems like a masterpiece in comparison.
There was a period of time when gameplay wasn't the priority, it is shifting back to 'gameplay first' only recently. The entire PS3/360-PS4/XBONE generation was full of wannabe movies.
the zombies are barely relevant to the story. they're there just to justify the setting and some gameplay elements.
Most vidya stories are abhorrent dogshit and the original TLOU story is good for a video game
did you mean to send this off in netflix spinoff email?
Because it's the best 3d game ever. TLOU is to 3D games what SOTN is to 2D games.
A quantum leap forward in presentation that other games are still chasing to meet
did you mean to send this off in netflix spinoff email?
please try again because i have no idea what you're trying to say
What Dawn of the Dead is actually about is lost on most people. It's not *arguing*. It's the wilderness and hunting motifs. The macho dynamic between "flyboy" and the cops. Just about the only successor work that *gets* this, funnily enough, is 'High School of the Dead'.
Even if you have Adam Sessler racism goggles and everything from Japan looks like a WW2 cartoon to you this isn't true. It's as slapdash, vapid, and meaningless as its worst seventh gen contemporaries.
This was a very bizarre moment when games were terrible at being everything else in addition to also being awful games, and the people calling for a return to "gameplay" also had shit taste in or sense for what games should be due to being racially bigoted against Japan.
This industry probably would have died without the Dark Souls meme shockwave.
arrrgggh I just PISSED MYSELF with rage reading your post.
Can you go now?
It tapped into the primal urge to be a father who protects is daughter from the dangers of the world.
Marketing
mushrooms
this. it effectively combines super mario bros tropes with zombies. it's the perfect recipe for masterpiece.
Sorry the truth hurts but the reason cost so much and take so long to make is because they're trying to make something better and more immersive than The Last of Us
please try again
good lord the world needs a good cleansing.
What?
it was the MGS moment for most zoomers and some millennials. btw these ppl hated video games in the 90s and called us nerds and losers for playing them but jumped on the vagon when it became mainstream with call of duty 4, gaylo, gears and other slop. until tlou1 these imbeciles had no fucking clue that games could be more than shooting and yelling nigger on the mic and for us who played games in the 90s tlou is mid as fuck. some anons already said that telltale did it better with twd and that's true.
It's because the actual monsters are the humans. Pretty profound.
Because it was "like a movie". That's it
the first game had:
extremely high production values
interesting character dynamic of strong stoic father figure and young innocent girl
gameplay felt like a movie--sneaking, fighting, shooting, exploring - it was more than just a third person shooter
Then the second game threw all of that away and destroyed the franchise, but by that time all gaming media had been bought off and was just paid marketing calling the game a masterpiece when it was utter shit.
The typical AAA video game does not actually have writing. At best, you have shit like Halo, whose "narrative" is far closer to the realm of tech manual and cool idea than it is to an actual story with like, characters and themes.
The Last of Us being like a film (or rather, an HBO TV drama) gave it the same appeal Uncharted before it had, and it got more lasting appeal because Uncharted is just a typical blockbuster in its writing while TLOU vaguely offers the idea of being about something.
Really, video games shouldn't have stories is the realization one should come to after all this. Video games do not lend themselves to being actually interesting and any amount of scrutiny into the typical AAA fare results in any rational person thinking their main character is an unlikable psychopath who would be executed in any just society.
man who posts cartoon girls on an anonymous dramawhore forum
Because of the nogaems audience.
This
finally at the end of the PS3's lifespan......A GAME
The character work in the first one was good. That’s it really. People loved the characters, the TLOU fans that remained after 2 and liked it are mostly pseudo intellectual fags pretending to be smarter than they really are.
any amount of scrutiny into the typical AAA fare results in any rational person thinking their main character is an unlikable psychopath
And why is that a bad thing? They clearly lean into that with Joel. They mention it multiple times that he is kind of a psycho who will do anything to survive or achieve his goals.
That's kinda the whole point of his character. His actions at the end of the game are a reflection of this. His fear of losing his "daughter" again push him to start killing and potentially lose the last chance of finding the cure.
Journalists and insecure manchildren were desperate for their hobby to be taken seriously, so they would hype any "mature" story.
Also it was an exclusive and we all know how defensive fanboys get when it comes to them. Every exclusive is a 10/10 masterpiece
They clearly lean into that with Joel. They mention it multiple times that he is kind of a psycho who will do anything to survive or achieve his goals.
They don't actually and actively want you to ignore that fact because games can ONLY be about a guy who kills thousands of living, breathing, thinking human beings.
His actions are ultimately rewarded and intended to be viewed as justice. That was the intended takeaway and what everyone thought after the credits rolled.
i actually like movie games if the story is decent (tlou1) and the gameplay is fun.
tlou 2 is shit because it's a movie game with decent gameplay but shit jewish babble writing.
not every game has to be bing bang wahoo.
I tried playing TLOU2 after watching the show and holy shit the gameplay is so boring i gave up after 2 or 3 hours. 90% of it was just walking/opening doors while characters talk and every once it a while the devs remember this is supposed to be a video game, so they put a room with 3 zombie in it before going back to the walking and talking
Clearly not? The game implies several times that he killed innocent people in order to survive.
the intended takeaway and what everyone thought after the credits rolled.
People debate to this day if his choice was justified, what are you talking about. The guy throws away the only potential chance of a cure because he didn't want to feel the pain of losing a daughter again. He even lies to her at the end because of that. Obviously it's intended to show that it was a moral dillemma and that he chose himself and her over everyone else.
That's actually a recurring theme in the entire game. Prioritizing your family and children over other people.
that's basically what tlou1 was
third person ladderer
what difficulty? no shit the game is boring if you play the boring version
People debate to this day if his choice was justified, what are you talking about.
They don't. The overwhelming opinion is that Joel did nothing wrong, because to say he did something wrong is to look at the game and declare it incorrect in its own ideas. Druckmann agrees with Joel, Joel's actor agrees with him, there is no greyzone here.
That's actually a recurring theme in the entire game. Prioritizing your family and children over other people.
And that's the deepest a AAA game can ever get. A shallow platitude about becoming monsters that I saw considered at a deeper level in a novel for literal teenagers.
What do you even do when the hope of the world and the hope for yourself are such different goals? No matter how happy you make the world, it won't mean shit if you can’t feel the happiness for yourself.
It's nothing actually significant or meaningful and nobody writing it thinks so either. They just think "This is like something that'd be on TV, right?" and then they get back to making their super emotional game about mass murder.
It honestly reached a point that would be considered parody in any other medium when they tried to do the exact same shit with God of War. Take a guy who has killed millions and then give him a son and say "He's actually a good guy :)"
Absurd medium that should never have storylines at all if every game is just gonna be mass murder upon mass murder.
Hearing my brother talk about season 2 without knowing what he's in for thinking its going to be good took me for a ride.
I feel like TLOU is only one of those games people lie to themselves pretending its a masterpiece when its a children of men rip off with zombies
because the narrative and delivery are leagues above any other game.
It came around the time journos were pushing for "games were art" meme.
It was a linear with streamlined gameplay and focus on presentation and scripted events which is everything normie journalists really care about
the gameplay is so boring
Really?
What is the gameplay. What did you play?
Snoys are so starved for games they play whatever slop is offered to them.
got at least two coworkers watching the show
bizarre to me that people want to watch a worse version of the game
but hey, it's on obh so you have to watch it, right?
Did he tell you about the last dumpster fire episode yet?
Are we still in the phase where we're not allowed to praise TLOU's gameplay no matter what? 1 was alright and could use some work, but 2 is honestly excellent gameplay-wise, especially on the harder difficulties like Survivor or Grounded, and is probably the only reason I have any kind of interest in that new game Naughty Dog is making. For all their faults, Naughty Dog pretty consistently makes games that are actually fun to play.
Is it still the crouch and knife game?
Wtf i love TLOU now
The gameplay is alot of fun when you have to fight lots of human enemies but you have to wade through hours of cutscenes and walking to get to any of that. you probably dropped it with another half hour to go at least before the first good encounter
No, it's the prone and knife game now.
wtf i hate jews now??
The first game is basically a greatest hits collection of clichés from the 7th console generation. It didn't do anything all that new, but it was polished. I would consider playing it again on PC if it comes down to the bargain bin price I rented it for over a decade ago.
women
women love tlou for some fucking reason
FPBP
Honestly, all the shit about TLOU2's story being a masterpiece almost gave me an aneurysm. Retards where treating the 'revenge is bad' trope like its a revolutionary, fresh and subversive idea. And not like its one of the most ancient and continually told proverbs (across the entire world and in almost every culutre) that mankind has.
I am too lazy to dig up sales, but literally only the first Telltale TWD game was a huge success. Every other Telltale TWD game did much worse.
and you can't shoot at or destroy anything inside the synagogue like you could in any other location in-game
It did at least let me throw a brick at the big scroll thing lol
Also hilarious because it got mogged by RDR2 which did the "revenge bad" story 2 years earlier and handled it way better, and much less ham fisted
The way i see it is this.
Is the message the sequel says more indepth than the original and builds upon the themes? No? Why the fuck even bother then?
I have killed many people including a pregnant woman to reach this point and now that I have my hands around the throat of the source of all my torment and grief I choose to stop here because I'm gonna be the better person on this one y'all.
Journalists hyped it up because they want video games seen as “art”.
Also normies get rock fucking hard for surrogate dad sims
This. Normalfags love Snoy Kratos for this reason.
The first Dying Light takes giant steaming turds that are better than tlou and tlou 2 combined
Don't forget she had her fingers chomped off before that, the normal reaction to that in a fight to the death would be violent murder, not mercy
that's an overlook in their coding. if they thought of that as well, they'd make it so you aren't able to throw stuff either, or the brick would just deflect away from the Torah due to a bigger, invisible collision box keeping it safe from antisemite defamation
It's a protect my daughter movie pretending to be a video game
dad game that came out during an era when Xers were having kids. thats it, thats the success.
Jew man makes game about killing mudslimes that hate trannies while also showing support to those trannies himself
Said mudslimes murder a bunch of jews and then get their shit kicked in.
Jew man supports his fellow kikes and trannies get mad at him
please elaborate Anon Babble
he unironically won lmao
Everyone was taking fat shits on DL when it first came out, I'm glad that as time went on its being appreciated more and more as being a fucking awesome game.
The conflict as been fucking awesome for me. Watching the sneaky jew get stabbed to death by a circle of progressives after using them to fuck over the West for years has been glorious.
TLOU still has better writing than 95% of mainstream games and it also had all the polish and high production values you could expect from Naughty Dog. The gameplay was pretty solid albeit lacking in some areas. In addition, the game journos and aging gamers were also desperate for a "Citizen Kane of gaming", aka a game that was respectable enough that it could gain the respect of normies and pretentious twats in other mediums. TLOU modeled itself after a prestige HBO drama, so it fit the bill.
I never played it when it first came out, but when I played it for the first time in 2019 I knew it was goated
Druckmann is a Jew and having grown up in Israel he doesn't want everyone in Israel to die, and he DOES fall into liberal Zionist hasbara, but there's a lot of disillusionment about Israel baked into the text of tlou2. Owen's line "I'm tired of fighting for land I don't give a fuck about anymore" is basically druckmann explaining his own feelings. The WLF, clearly a stand-in for the IDF, is portrayed as an evil faction that has no interest in peace, and their bloodshed leads to their own destruction.
Just wait for the Movie. It's going to be better than both the Video Games and TV Show combine and will blow the fuck out of all the uncultured, no taste haters of the story.
DAILY REMINDER THAT KEKMAN HAD BARELY ANYTHING TO DO WITH CRASH BANDICOOT OR JAK AND DAXTER SERIES
cuckmans legacy is making a faggy walking simulator
revenge porn story
full of mutt culture war and identity politics
>>>good writing
yeah no thanks, I let normies gobble up that shit but I deserve better
Yeah no shit?
TLOU modeled itself after a prestige HBO drama
which is why it works much better as a tv show. I hated tlou2 but so far tv series has been very enjoyable, they even fixed the bigot sandwich dude. neil should just stick with making tv episodes and leave gaming behind. shame kojima never tried going this route.
Correct. I'm shocked it was allowed.
I really consistently have no idea what TLOU2 is even supposed to be about the more i think about it. Druckk says it's about 'da cycle of violence' but Abby's entire character arc is about how killing Joel was good for her spiritually and emotionally so obviously, violence is the answer. Ok, so it's not about the revenge fantasy, is it about dykes or lesbians living in the post apocalypse? Well not really because it's a game where you mainly shoot people for the crime of standing in front of you. Is it just about hatred and violence in general? the game doesnt really bother exploring it at all because it's obsessed with this contradictory message about how revenge is bad and good.
The big fights happen later but they are pretty good.
Abby's entire character arc is about how killing Joel was good for her spiritually and emotionally
It alienates her from ALL her friends besides Manny and gets them all killed. The only reason she gets to live is because she spared Ellie.
You haven't played the game, you just want to throw your hat into culture war bullshit
The story is about more than just revenge but brainlets cannot process anything past that.
I played 1, but realised I was too intelligent to sit through slop #2
Her friends were actually quite bad for her. She's fucking her closest friend who knocked up her other friend and they both were planning to leave the WLF together without her. The other characters seem more like acquaintances/coworkers. Her friends getting killed lets her leave the WLF and set out looking for the last of the fireflies with her new bff Lev.
Both Jackson and the Wolves have elements of Israel, but there is also some strong elements from the USA. The failed raid on the Seraphites is clearly meant to evoke the failed US wars on the Middle East and Africa.
I said TLOU.
okay fair
It was a game that had writing that didnt sound like it was written by a 10 year. Sure, it's not THAT good, but gamer standards for writing is genuinely that bad. I will never understand people who say they play games for the stories. Most of the writing in video games is total dogshit, and the few times where the writing isn't abysmal, it's just "ok".
I think it's because it had a male main character who was nihilistic and grief stricken about his current reality and a young women brought him hope and purpose. Pretty simple, really. The first game had a story modern men can relate to, understand deeply, or dream about.
Druckmann agrees with Joel
NTA but after the first game Druckmann has been portraying Joel’s actions at the hospital as a the wrong doing, depicting it as a tragedy or something close to a horrible act. Tlou 2 treats it as a selfish act, and the show as a tragedy, even the music in the show attempts to give you this feeling of what you are seeing is utterly wrong. Just compare the music they used in the game when Joel finally reaches Ellie and rescues her vs the show and you’ll see what am getting at. Druckmann, even as narcissistic and desperate he is to make himself look like a genius knows better than directly contradict the fanbase, on that specific topic at least.
No, you're just a man baby who can't emotionally navigate your emotions, and think that because Druckmann wrote characters that do not like Joel, he is trying to say that YOU shouldn't like Joel.
TLOU2 portrays Joel as a saint who only did what any father would have done, and Ellie and Abby both allowing their hate for him to fester made both of their lives demonstrably worse.
And for women it's probably something about being able to fix a broken man and feel protected by him.
People did say this about the first game, OP; if you go back, you'll see discussions from anons here and on other sites about the response being out of proportion to how good the game is.
It's a good/serviceable zombie story set side by side with a good/serviceable TPS. You could have separated the two of them and either/both would have been "fine", but definitely not a masterpiece.
Gameplay hype came from early previews that were definitely scripted but made it seem like the enemy AI was incredibly sneaky and proactive. Also the violence was pretty visceral for a mainstream game. It was only obvious how overblown that was when the game was already out.
Writing hype comes from people having an impossibly low, truly impoverished standard for their entertainment. A "good" story for a video game is legitimately head and shoulders above 99% of games out there. It's an industry full of almost nothing but dreck. If you've seen a few good movies and read a few good books it breaks your ability to appreciate video game stories because the contrast is so stark. Normies don't read anything but fanfiction or smut, and they don't watch anything but Marvel/Star Wars, so TLOU genuinely is one of the best pieces of media they've experienced.
I will never understand people who say they play games for the stories
I play games for stories aswell as gameplay, but not pretentious up itself stories. Stuff like Ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, sly raccoon etc are fun stories that don't take themselves too seriously
The story of TLOU1 is so insanely overrated that I have no problems saying that 2 is better in that department. 1 is only better because it is safer, because it is trite.
That's the strength of Naughty Dog post-Crash Bandicoot. They make very, very polished and cinematic games with organic dialogue between characters that make everything feel more impressive than it is, because gaming is generally stilted even when you're playing a game that does have a good story in a way ND doesn't. That's why Uncharted were good, they're not good stories, they're just slicker than 90% of games and that's the appeal.
Part 1 only has a "better" story than 2 in that it is ND doing what they had always done up until that point, playing it safe, being generic and cliched but doing it in an extremely slick manner that kind of makes you forget how generic it all is. Part 2 isn't as cliched and generic in its storytelling, revenge bad is hardly original but the way it goes about telling that story is more of a risk than anything they had done before.
It did a better job communicating to its audience that it was a story about people and not zombies.
So, like nearly every zombie media ever?
...still...
Literal "Journo Circlejerk: The Game"
That's literally it. The "leader of thoughts" in the gaming business became magazines like EGM, IGN, Gameinformer, and people working in Games Journalism got into some weird vaccuum together, and they're primarily based out of California where Gay Pride, and cultural radicalism is normalized. So the quality bar shifted from games that gamers liked into games that IGN/Gamespot/Gameinformer approved of, like Gone Home, Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us.
They're all games that fit their poorly read perspective on what games should be, and the "validity" of game magazines made people nod and agree for a while, until more and more stopped up and said "You know what? These games aren't actually that great."
And that's what's finally happened. I'm glad we all agree by now that TLOU isn't a good video game :)
he is trying to say that YOU shouldn't like Joel.
That’s exactly what I’m saying Dumbass. Also you are contradicting yourself by stating that Druckmann is telling us that we are not supposed to like him, but at the same time stating that TLOU 2 portrays him as a saint, and with this making the player agree and sympathize with him. So either Druckmann can’t make up his mind on how are supposed to feel about him or you are just playing dumb playing defense on something I wasn’t even fighting about.
you're just a man baby who can't emotionally navigate your emotions
That’s rich coming from someone ranting about a simple observation.
why did tlou became so popular in the first place?
It allowed normalfags and journos that want vidya to be 'respectable' the opportunity to sit at the big boy's table.
Fuck, I didn’t realized I quoted two times, my bad.
a part of the story that just focuses around you randomly just happening to enter an abandoned synagogue while the side character, who is Jewish, gives you exposition about Judaism and lectures you on it and how their people have been oppressed for as long as they existed, and you can't shoot at or destroy anything inside the synagogue like you could in any other location in-game. The environment is all just static instead of dynamic. You can't do shit to the Satanic stars or Torah or anything else like that. You're supposed to just look at and admire them.
The sheer fucking chutzpah.
I dislike Ellie in 2 because they took it too far with her.
She's a sweet lesbian lover
She's sensitive
She's hardcore evil
She's artistic, she paints and plays guitars
She's cultured and loves books, movies and is interested in space
Why does this always happen? Especially the artistic bit, this is becoming such a common trope and its just shameless self insertion. STOP, write an emotionally complex character without making them worldly.
And intentionally corny jokes has become one of my biggest fucking annoyances in games. Just write funny dialogue instead, would it kill you to write a character that is actually funny instead of doing the "oh god that was so corny" shit over and over and over again. How many of these fucking intentionally bad dad jokes are there in TLOU2? It's fucking infuriating to listen to, you're not exempt because you intentionally write a corny joke and acknowledge that its corny "look at me guys, look at this corny joke ha ha!" shut the fuck up, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
It was a typo, I'm arguing with retards online cuz work is slow rn. Druckmann isn't saying that you shouldn't like Joel, he is saying that despite the harmful consequences of what he did, he didn't have any choice, and it's what any father would have done.
You think that if Joel isn't a heroic Mary sue that is above criticism from *anyone* in the narrative, Druckmann is either "confused" or telling the audience they should hate him lol
I liked this guy. He was pretty cool.
Rat king is probably the best idea out of TLOU2
*is far and beyond better level than anything in the first game*
This. The game was heavily marketed to PS3 fags who has NOTHING of value worth playing for almost the entire span of the console. Then the fact that Naughtyshit just keeps remaking this trash over and over, it stays in the game-o-sphere of available releases to play on no GameStation. Seriously, almost anyone with a brain will agree that the series is incredibly mediocre but it was the only title they had so the have to put it up on a pedestal as some grand achievement of video games when it's just another corridor walking-talking movie slop.
It's funny how tlou2 is literally the shining example of "open linearity" level design that every autismo on Anon Babble clamors for when they whine about rdr2 and BotW, but they pretend it doesn't exist because of culture war bullshit
Why isn't TLOU talked about as a stealth series? TLOU2 is a full blown stealth game more or less, it is as much of a stealth game as metal gear is
90% of it was just walking/opening doors while characters talk and every once it a while the devs remember this is supposed to be a video game
Thanks for reminding me of this.
I think the Anon Babbleirgins who played both will all admit the gameplay in 2 is better. The writing is just so much worse that story discussion overshadows the gameplay.
how tlou2 is literally the shining example of "open linearity" level design that every autismo on Anon Babble clamors for
how far up your own ass can you possibly be, jesus christ
the button scheme is horrendous. it's so off compared to your standard 3rd person shooter.
How are ND going to make a franchise out of this main character?
Drake, and Joel all carry their respective franchises, but this thing? who that plays games is going to get invested in this thing enough it becomes this household name? The women that look like her do not play games, and even worse libs have kind of moved on from the culture war so now not even they will feign interest in this type of representation out of a cultural obligation.
The writing is only worse if:
You're a rightoid culture warrior angry about the mere existence of Jews, women, and trannies
A Joel.apologist who didn't get anything out of the first game besides thinking it was heckin wholesome murder adventure with epic gruff gamer dad and his cute daughter
Tlou1 is a pretty rote story, full of characters that are basically just postapoc archetypes. It's carried entirely by the chemistry of its leads and the interesting moral quandary presented by it's ending - the latter of which is diminished by Joel apologists actively lobbying for a dumber story by insisting a cure was impossible, because their fragile emotions can't handle moral complexity
she looks fine, i think you guys are just gay
Can't believe they're really going to release a AAA with a protagonist that looks like that in 2026
she
It's weird that they made her look like that because she's actually on tlou2 show and she's very attractive, I just think Druckmann is allergic to making fuckable characters after he was.mindbroken by all the Ellie and Sarah porn
Because barely anyone in these threads has actually played it, they think it’s entirely cutscenes and slow-walk-with-dialog.
Even as a leftist, I'd be willing to admit that all the identity politics are a bit of a plague on the game. I don't think it is unplayable or terrible because of it, but certainly feels contrived and not very honest, it certainly has the aesthetics of an "honest" story down but how it feels is another thing. In short, I just don't buy it, I don't buy the lesbianisms, I don't buy how tactfully handled the transgender issue is by virtually everyone in the game world.
Then there's the lazier smaller things like numerous letters you find in the world mentioning a same sex partner, NPCs that mention same sex partner, its lazy and dishonest to take a male character and have them say "oh my husband would love this"and that's the extent of their sexuality. Maybe we shouldn't stereotype, but also maybe lesbians should be convincingly lesbian and gays should be convincingly gay. I don't buy Dina as a lesbian woman, I don't even buy Ellie as a lesbian woman. It's like when a straight cishet woman says she's bi because she kissed her girlfriend when drunk once, you're just stealing valor.
Nobody is surprised to find out when a woman is lesbian, you can tell from a mile away, if you want a lesbian character in your game then give me one that I can truly be convinced is lesbian. This is like the worst of both worlds by the way, it's not pandering to straight males by having "lesbians" be coomerbait, it's having "lesbians" act as earnest "honest" lesbians but it feels fake.
Unhinged rant aside, I don't think this ruined the whole game and I don't think the story is bad either. I just have qualms with the representation. Abby would make a way better lesbian than Ellie/Dina.
TLOU2 is just 1 with HS/fag drama and gays thrown in
WOW SO GUD despite 1 being overrated trash 2 is even better!
Fun game with an engaging story made by an, at the time, beloved studio.
It's not that hard to understand.
Zombie dramas were popular at the time of its release.
There's a lot of meme answers here but besides the story a big draw of TLoU was that it was a survival horror game in a time where the genre was all but dead.
It came out around the same time as RE6 and Dead Space 3, of course it was gonna do well when it had no real competition.
Did you guys like the santa barbara level?
But the gameplay is really nothing special.
ironically it heavily shaped the standard gameplay for years to come
in particular all these remakes from the past 8 or so years play exactly like the last of us
You think that if Joel isn't a heroic Mary sue that is above criticism from *anyone* in the narrative.
I never said or even implied that. I’m pointing out a discrepancy on how Druckmann depicts Joel’s actions after the first game and how he supposedly feels about it.
What I’m trying to say is that Druckmann wants you to disagree with what Joel did and think of it as an unnecessary act of violence, and by those actions he utterly doomed mankind. When the first game goes out its way to present it more neutral by making the fireflies idealistic people that were really unreliable to deliver a proper cure to say the least. And by making both Joel and Marlene hypocrites by not letting Ellie choose what she wants in the end. What Joel did was fucked up, but more justified than what Druckmann wants you to believe.
You could boil down 'I'm a cock gargling faggot' to just one line but you had to give four paragraphs for it.
is Joel good, is Joel bad
the only conclusive thing we can say about all of this is that Joel certainly did better than Ellie did. Ellie was completely consumed by hatred and threw away literally everything in her life. Morally ambiguous as they may be, Joel is a better person than Ellie.
cuckmann was kikewrangled for the first game to prevent him from subverting it too much. the second game tanked because they gave him total control with no wranglers, and surprise surprise he killed everything people liked about the first game and hyperqueered up the second one.
TLOU 2 story is great because it inherently will talked about forever as long as video games exist. Tonnes of mid vidya has come out but no one cares.
Not even kojima could pull something like this he had to write clone gimmicks to not upset gamers
...gone with the TV show;
Ok but it's boring.
Complex Writing without "hype moments and aura" aka kojima slop is boring
To the average gamer yeah.
But it's not complex.
Same. No hook. Completely generic. Not sure what even draws people to it.
It should have been a solo Abby game, Ellie's part drags the game.
holy shit that jewish dyke is so annoying. the Ellie Seattle level could have been kino exploration. just you and a horse nuddy. but noooo i have to listen to that cunt yapp constantly. Dina is such a useless character
it was a survival horror game in a time where the genre was all but dead
dead space 1 and 2 were great, and I didn't hate 3 like some. fallout 3 and 4 kind fit into survival genre as well as demon's souls and dark souls. resi went to shit at that time but there were some graat alternatives for survival horror fans even if games didn't necessarily fit perfectly into the genre. the evil within was also released soon after tlou.
Cute underaged girl with zombies that's the whole shtick of the ps3 version
Tlou 2 is the only non generic mainstream game and it's hated by normies because marvel storytelling is the only thing that works
muh marvel ruined storytelling
muh plot 2deep4u
the stupid goy-i mean normies are just too dumb to get it
marvels failing, disneys burning, tlou2 is shit
sometimes normies wake up
stop blaming your failure on anything but being a jewish nepofaggot, cuckman
Da joos
You don't even get hate them for genociding muslamics you just here them because you belive in they own da banks and produce porn
You're the real cuck because they own only your soul.
you'rerere the real cuck because they do in the banks and own and you here they are the
saar dont you have a war to prepare to die in?
What if we made Uncharted but your health doesn't regenerate, you have limited ammo and supplies, and you begin to feel bad for every human you kill.
It was developed in response to Naughty Dog being made fun of when Nathan Drake kills hundreds of nameless goons in every uncharted game, flips about like a manaic with infinite health and hundreds of bullets flying everywhere.
Too bad we're super cereal now, no more cartoon animals and inhuman gary stus.
Its got a safe amount of edge to it without it screamy creepy gamer.
I think it also came out during the time of game of thrones and breaking bad where people wanted that safe amount of edge.
HOW THE FUCK DID TLOU TAKE OFF WHEN WALKING DEAD DID THE EXACT SAME STORY BETTER?!
it somehow also has MORE gameplay than tlou
because it was an actual "movie game" (not the "movie game" buzzword that people keep spamming on Anon Babble)
people could feel like they are watching the latest 12 episodes TV show with just enough interaction for them to self insert themselves into it
Because it’s not really much of a game and was easy for people who don’t play games in the first place to consume
Also the lolis are hot
The writing is worse for a lot of reasons, the biggest one being that is cheapened the ending of TLOU (and muh moral complexity) by retconning it and Joel + Ellie's characters.
Identity politics doesn't enter into it at all
he wasn't even the person who made TLOU1 decent
its "The Boys" all over again, 1st "season" is ok with one writer tard wrangling the other retard and then after the wrangler leaves it all goes to shit
Tlou2 agrees with Joel, it just also realistically presents that a lot of people were affected by him.
It did a better job communicating to its audience that it was a story about people and not zombies.
george romero literally created teh zombie genre and his first zombie film is about racism.
Nothing was retconned, you were just willfully misinterpreting the first game because you wanted to dance around the fact that you would let the world die to save one person you care about, even though the narrative of both games agrees with Joel's decision anyways
putting this many words in another anon's mouth
no
Question for people who actually played TLOU2 (so almost no one here evidently).
Was I going insane or is every female Rattler named “Jodie”. Throughout game I was pretty impressed with the random goon patrol dialog, it felt natural and I didn’t notice any repeats, every enemy (even dog) seemed to have a unique name. Until the very end in Santa Barbra, I swear I heard “Jodie!” like 5 times in 3 combat encounters. It wasn’t even same voice line, they were all unique, but every female Rattler seemed to be named Jodie. It was incredibly distracting.
I never heard a name repeat
You answered your own question
He doesnt remember "Metroid prime is the citizen cain of gaming"
tlou
survival horror
Are you retarded?
RE defined the survival horror, and that definition meant that you didnt know when you should be using your resources because they were extremely limited and something worse could always be around the corner, running away was a perfectly valid and important strategy.
TLOU is a fucking corridor shooter with more in common with spec ops the line than fucking survival horror.
This. Joel is the epitome of safe masculine.
Have you ever played on grounded? Because the game plays COMPLETELY differently on higher difficulties. Yeah if your only experience is watching normies blast thru on normal I get why you'd think that but TLOU is a better survival horror game than any resident evil released between after 2002 until 2019
NTA but if you play in their survival mode with the handholding turned off everything IS extremely limited, and your best choice is to preserve your three whole revolver bullets by using bottles/bricks + stealth
It's definitely not survival horror though so you're right about that
People who are all "games are my life" and I don't mean gamers. I mean the people who treat games like snobs do in other media. The one's who genuinely use "cinematic mode" to take pictures and post them on social media like it's something with meaning. The people who complain about something not having 3rd person mode or else they can't "get into it" cause it needs to have that "cinematic" experience. Those types of people are the ones responsible for NaughtyDog turning to shit and forcing AAA games to be all about that "cinematic experience", being hyper realistic and being 3rd person over the shoulder.
Normalfag's first game
If RE4 is survival horror then TLOU is. The it’s way more resource scarce than RE4. Most guns you can only hold gun itself plus 1 spare magazine, so it’s very possible to go from full on everything to empty on everything in one fight. Obviously this is greatly lessened by stealth and using Molotovs/mines/melee kills etc… but RE4 has those things to, and arguably much easier to replace.
People focus on the Zionist aspect but as someone else pointed out in the thread, he was actually critical of both sides. The wokeness aspect is far more egregious. The game was obviously made during peak woke as it completely uncritically portrays a situation where a kid kills their parent over the parent being against transgenderism.
So its like spec ops on fubar?
better survival horror than RE between 2002 and 2019
revelations and 7 are less survival horror than a corridor shooter
Except that RE4 is when the series took a radically different direction and became an action game until the release of RE revelations when they returned to survival horror.
That isnt even noting that RE4 was actually a game, not just a movie with garbage stealth mechanics.
Please tell me those obnoxious white arrows telling you how to follow the character walking like a slug are real.
Please dont tell me its a mod he added as a joke.
Please tell me tlou fans are so fucking shit at video games that they need that to figure out how to walk down a hallway.
Niggers are obsessed with Ellen Page, or were
That’s an accessibility setting for blind people or whatever. You have to specifically turn that on, and he turned on EVERYTHING to make game look and sound as bad as possible.
It's carried entirely by the chemistry of its leads
A chemistry that 2 sorely lacks. Abby's lack of personality gets carried by the rest of the crew and then it goes down the shit once she gets paired up with the autismo kid.
Its over.
the mansion map is shit in the campaign cuz you don't really get to duke it out inside the building and end up clearing all enemies from the courtyard.
basically if a jew makes something the media mind controls people into buying/using/watching the shit. its so fucking boring and retarded, but jews are the god emperors of the west.
For real though what did this fucker mean?
That’s an accessibility setting for blind people
vidya
the blind
why did tlou became so popular in the first place?
The original one -directed by Bruce Straley- was a phenomenon. unironically you had to be there.
How do people enjoy playing this even as a movie game?
It looks like a really, really boring movie.
