Pretty sure the common blades are generally better than the special ones you can roll since they play with the orb system better. And you can grind Tora Tora and make Poppi the best Blade in the game.

Unfortunately I do have some completionist tendencies and, for some reason, when "characters" are locked behind a gacha system, I have a strong aversion towards it. If it was gear and weapons, I honestly wouldn't care. I'd rather an in-game shop system, quest unlocks, collectible gathering, or mixture of all three than gacha being used for "party members" in a single player game. I also don't want to purchase the problem away (like other shitty gacha mobile games).

You really can't purchase your way through it. Honestly, you could think of them as weapons/movesets for the actual characters you're getting them on. You can't even get them all on a first playthrough since a handful are limited to NG+/post game.

You can beat the whole game with only the free, Story Blades. Mythra in particular is a Top Ten, possibly Top 5 Blade.
This is even more true if you own the DLC, which gives you Crossette (speedrunner's wet dream) and Corvin (not as good as Crossette for speedruns, but rapes optional content insanely hard)

Thinking of them as movesets makes it worse, since that is something I care about. I don't want to get a bunch of mats or w/e to farm rolls until I get all the blades I want, nor do I want to keep reloading on the first set of rolls to get something I'm interested in.
I guess it will always just be a hard pass for me. Maybe I'll watch an LP or something at some-point for the context, but the whole mechanic kinda soured me on the game.

I could have beat XC1 at level 50 without doing all the heart to hearts, Colony 6 reconstruction, collectopedias, or super bosses. It isn't about just getting through the game. I want to see all of what it has to offer instead of powering through on OP DLC blades or simply clearing with the story ones. I want to collect and play with most of the blades available in the game.
The gacha system actively makes it a great annoyance to play the game how I want.
