4 All-Time Classics
whoops, did the image wrong, that is supposed to be Persona 5 on the bottom.

FF7 easily.
FF7 > Chrono Trigger > Ex33 > Persona 5
who the fuck even knows anymore
because i had a post halfway typed up BTFOing some faggot into another dimension so the jannies put a stop to it to save that anons life
FF7
I played it for the first time last year (original hardware), and while it wasn't bad, it was very underwhelming, and so dry and boring that it took me almost two months to finish even when I didn't do much side content. Just such a total drag.
everything is just so damn slow-paced from the animations to the transitions to the loading to the constant cutscenes and monologues
combat is braindead autopilot button mashing. Regular enemies are just absolutely braindead cannon fodder for grinding that pose zero risk whatsoever. Even bosses are a complete joke, and you will only ever fail to poorly telegraphed gotcha trollshit
camera angles in combat are obnoxious and constantly obscure the fight
targeting enemies and allies in fights is very finicky. Having to actually point at 3D models instead of just using the list of names is baffling.
magic spells are very samey and don't really fill a niche or usecase, and have few meaningful tradeoffs
no descriptions for any spells or items while in combat
no symbols for status elements and no way to view them
translation is extremely shoddy, full of grammatical errors, spelling errors, nonsensical engrish
dialogue boxes look amateurish, appearing all over and blocking parts of the screen and character names only appearing their first line; when new, unnamed characters speak, no name is shown, and the dialogue box appears the same as if the previous character is speaking
d-pad digital movement feels awful to navigate isometric maps; you will frequently bang into walls and go back the way you came on screen transition
prerendered backgrounds are very unclear and unintuitive regarding what areas you can traverse or interact with
99% of the objects in the world can't be interacted with, while a few arbitrarily can and give zero indication of this
FF7 was a weak 6. Expedition 33 is a strong 9, one of the best RPGs of all time, and easily the best of the JRPG subgenre (excl. Souls obviously)
30 years old
just played FF7 for the first time
that's even more embarrassing, should've just pretended to be a zoomer when i accused you of being one. opinion discarded.
Expedition 33
FF7 > FF7
I'm seeing double: 4 clouds!

that is supposed to be Persona 5 on the bottom
No you did the image right, good job

RENT FUCKING FREE
I have no idea why it was deleted but I'm going to post what I had already typed up enjoy
brutally mogged
I like the game, but I honestly cannot see the characters becoming as beloved as the cast of FF7. To this day I believe the only reason that game is successful is because the story integrates the characters, environments, and music in a way that just gives it this magical feeling (I know I'm gay sue me thats how I feel) and while E33 was good, it just didn't give me that same feeling.
btw I played og FF7 as a grown man very recently for the first time so it's not nostalgia goggles.

i'm 32 and played FF7 in 1999, stop making excuses like a fucking casual
E33 is miles ahead of FF7 in artstyle, overworld, combat, build variety, characters, writing, story, pacing, OST is close, FF7 has better "quests" but E33 has better exploration/side content.
Your love for it is nothing more than childhood nostalgia; you are not qualified to discuss it with adults.
based. greatest game of all time.
E33 is NOT better than FF7. and i say this as someone who considers E33 a masterpiece and an actual lock for GOTY
that's not how it works, i've enjoyed the game in it's entirety half a dozen times in my life at various points, you played it for the first time in 2024. it is you who is not qualified to even mention the name of FF7
Chrono Trigger > FF7 > FF7 > Ex33
Brainrot post, genuinely not even a single thing FF7 does better than E33.
Don't respond to me, find a fellow 6 year old to talk to.
what I say matters because I like the game
kek kys. FF7 was never good but if it was, it would've aged like milk.
That's not the point of what I was saying. To an extent I actually agree that if you look at each thing individually as combat, music (highly debatable), or artsyle you could say that E33 technically does everything better, sure. But the way everything comes together to create a cohesive experience just felt better while playing FF7. Even with all the goofy anime stuff I still had a better time in FF7 if that makes sense, I felt more attached to the characters. It's all personal preference anyways.
yes it's worse in every way
but I get all nostalgia and giddy like a little faggot when I think about FF7 so therefore it's better
like I said, it's nostalgia faggot.
it kind of feels like the devs for E33 really do like jrpgs, but they were trying too hard to give that vintage FF experience and missed the point as to why those stories are so beloved. Yes, the story in E33 is mature and deals with real world themes, but they leaned in too much with the melodrama and not enough into adventure. If they want to make a dramatic family story thats totally fine, but tacking on jrpg mechanics and an overworked gives an artificial feeling to it all.
ff7 has better music, characters, and story. but honestly it's way too early to even have this conversation, i've had a quarter of a fucking century to stew on FF7 and a couple weeks for E33. i'm not even going to argue about it because both games are absolutely god tier. i'll save my virtiol for the niggercattle who keep calling E33 shit but refuse to prove that they played it because they didn't play it
no need to seethe just because you spent your childhood playing dogshit games and missing out on kino.
did you not read the previous post where it is mentioned there is no nostalgia for FF7 because it was recently played for the first time?
7 has my nigga Cid Highwind in it
ff7 has better music, characters, and story
characters is the only debatable one, and gameplay wise, E33 absolutely wipes the floor with it.
7 also has a Scottish man roleplaying as a cat
they were made almost 30 years apart, directly comparing their gameplay is fucking retarded
i loved rebirth (even though i hate remake), but cid's character assassination is one of the most disgusting and disrespectful things i've ever seen in my entire life
We are talking about the game overall, not compared to the time at which they launched. Tons of other genres peaked 15-30 years ago so there's no excuse.
What do you think of Vagrant Story? I've been playing it recently and I think its neat.
materia is better and parry shit makes every boss fight the same
Gameplay isn't even much of a topic in FF7. It's the same turn based as the other ones with a limit break and materia system added. As a FF7 connoisseur the main appeal is story, music, and characters, which it excels at compared to E33
I've not played the remake yet honestly, I just have played the OG a lot and am waiting for the 3rd game before I play the new ones. Gonna just maybe mod everyone's costumes to be the OGs if Square doesn't release them as a free DLC or something
parry shit makes every boss fight the same
complete opposite. Each enemy/boss has a ton of unique moves that makes each fight engaging and fun even when the strategy element is stale (and usually the strategy is as good if not better)
each enemy/boss has a ton of unique moves that makes each fight engaging
Maybe in dark souls where you can run around and feel the gravity of the situation, but in E33 you just stand and wait for the timing to parry. the attack doesnt matter if its elemental, physical, anything it just gets bottlenecked into pressing the parry button. Even the super boss fights play exactly like the smaller enemies, just parry, maybe they have a second phase with big energy attacks but guess what, you can parry those too. Nothing ever changes.
not using mods or emulator to fast forward and skip the animations.
Not at all, some attacks are easier to just dodge than trying to parry the whole chain, but in some cases you want to parry for the AP bonus or some other lumina boss, not to mention gradiant parries and jump attacks. Also there are many different timings: more rhythmic attacks, very fast and chaotic, delayed attacks. Each enemy/boss is really well designed, memorable, with a ton of different challenging attacks.
There are times that enemies have a lot of HP but only a few basic attacks, but those times are usually optional chromatic enemies or a few end-game parts, and are very few and far between.
reminder that he's 32 years old just like the expeditioners
I'm torn between both Final Fantasy VIIs
This, best FF game overall, and Garnet is better than Tifa or the FF8 chick
What do you mean its not even close, FF7 is clearly the better one
Vagrant story is fucking kino, a swan song for the PS1
Currently playing FF1 (NES) and I'm having an alright time
