Gothic 1 is incredible. Gothic 2 is a big downgrade but still amazing. Gothic 3 is unfinished, but fun with community patch, except for Nordmar, because unlike other zones it's not unfinished, it's barely started.

2 is only a downgrade in terms of the setting, and it still manages to be amazing despite going for the most generic medieval Europe fantasy route imaginable.
