skippable boss fight

utopia

what kind of fucking mouthbreather thinks this way

Your generation is really lazy.

In the game pictured yes because the gameplay is dogshit.

As somebody that loves stories and lore in games and goes out of my way to read everything, if you're playing a game and you don't like the gameplay you're a fucking retard.

Just watch some faggot playing it on youtube if you don't want to play the fucking game.
Kotaku should be exterminated.

I skip boss fights all the time by not even playing the game. Checkmate journalists.

Why even play videogames?

I'd honestly think more highly of someone who watched a playthrough on youtube than someone who would skip boss fights and pretend they beat the game

Why would you want to skip them?

You don't play videogames. Big Toe Tom was a fun bossfight.

skip the boss

dont get any cool drops it can give you

I say it would be a funny trade-off, people who cant kill the bosses are getting weaker and weaker by not having better gear.

Just bring back optional

"Skippable" bossfiggts are the worst. If you don't wanna play the game, just don't play the game.
If you are only there for the cutscenes, youtube has you covered.

fight the boss?

more like skip the boss and grab a beer!

why are “gamers” and “journalists” like this?

I'm sick of the boss fight mechanic in general. Most games put bosses in because they feel as though they have to instead of because the game requires it.

Oddly enough Soulsborne would be much better if most bosses were just regular enemies instead of a funnel fight. The boss concept is a meme from the 80s and 90s and honestly needs to die

t. beat ER without using those faggot scadu nut things

Just add a skip to the end of the game button so I can get my dopamine fix and move on to the next game.

all of these years later and they’re still seething at no easy mode in Sekiro

Bosses in nu games are actually a problem because shitty devs are all doing the “hard like dark souls” thing where they want you to die to random bullshit 20 times instead of proper bossfights where you can attack the obvious weak point or memorize the pattern

filtered by Metroid prime

OH NO NO NO

IMG_2382.png - 1170x4305, 1.22M

boss has an instakill move that is virtually impossible to know is coming unless you watch a video before hand or fight it 2 or 3 times prior

you’re not wrong. Shit like this happens way too often

Why do game journalist hate playing games so much

Kotaku

Imagine going to school for journalism thinking you will be working for the AP or Washingtonpost and you get a job at kotaku

it's one of my favorite series

I've never finished any of the games in question

This is a special kind of retarded.

they resent being “videogame” journalists and like said not working a “proper” job

Skipping a boss fight via dialogue is kino when done sparingly, just straight up letting people skip bosses is beyond cringe.

this

you get a job at kotaku

Even worse, you minored in film and wanted to be a movie critic but ended up in video games because nobody cares about your lukewarm takes on why whatever schlock is filling the gaps between marvel movies is a trans-queer masterpiece. Most of them are actively hostile to video games as a whole over an insecurity about not being taken seriously anywhere else either

“skipping” a boss fight could be an interesting mechanic like you either have to talk them down, use a rare collectible item, or figure out a way to escape through certain items or something. But you know it would just be some lazy pop up screen “SKIP BATTLE”

This is a pretty common phenomenon. Happens a lot with Persona

gamesjounro excited about playing his most highly rated game for the first time

Uh, what you're doing is called "gatekeeping". Do better please?

This guy is such a fucking faggot

upset by repetitive combat

boss fights, a place where devs get creative with combat, can optionally be turned off

guy likes the option

got filtered by Metroid Prime

half the fucking article is talking about how he got death threats and hate comments

talks about how he's got thick skin after gamergate

This faggot is terminally online and whatever he's paid, it's too much. Death threats on the internet is just casual banter

how do you get a job writing about videogames if you hate videogames

game journos. they can’t actually play games after all

Boss fights are the only thing that matter though? I'd much rather have a "skip the bullshit trash" button and go right to the boss

God, I wish I did better.
I remember when I was a little kid and thought "man, video games are so cool, I wish everyone could enjoy them!" and now here we are, games are mainstream as fuck and they're overall worse than ever.

holy fucking shit this is embarrassing

journalists getting filtered on the first boss. That has a qte and a gimmick.

yeah like in oblivion where you can skip fighting the grand arena champion if you do his quest

>talks about how he's got thick skin after gamergate

lol

It's a leftist holding cell until they need a onions at vice, axios, ap or wapo.

Do better at gatekeeping? I wish.

Gatekeeping is a bad thing actually

The point of a boss fight in a game with a learning curve is to test what you have learned, so that the game make assumptions about what you can do going forward.
If the game discards boss fights or similar obstacles, then it can never assume that the player has learned any new skills and thus can never grow or become more complex.
They're just 9-to-5 deadline hitters. All they care about is having an opinion that doesn't fall apart before the headline and tagline.

That quote about the only people who complain about gatekeeping are the ones the gate is meant to keep out has always been correct. If a minimum of investment is too much effort for someone to get involved with something then they're better off gone.

keeping shitter retards out of my hobby is worth it.

play a lot of 4x style games for hundreds of hours each

never get close to finishing before starting a new run

I guess I'm not a fan.

game “””””””journalists”””””””” look forward to not having to play the games they review

would then review based solely on the shitty writing and the number of niggers in the game

further deepening the divide between their opinions and the audience, who care about things like gameplay and challenge

thus further accelerating their own destruction

Sounds good to me.

Sounds like expedition 33 is his kind of game

Never understood this.
I'm autistic as fuck regarding what I can speak about, but if I never touched a game I just refrain from actually talking about it.

This is also why I'm currently playing through the Persona series, even though I just started recently with P5R.
I'm currently at Sept 14 holy fuck this game is mid. I hope the older ones are any better.

How do you even get filtered by metroid prime?
Love the series but I'm not even going to pretend like they're difficult games in any way

BG3 has a lot of situations you can talk your way out of, which I like. But I’m guessing even having the CHANCE of having to fight through a difficult encounter, even with no reaction time or execution barrier, wouldn’t be enough for the people writing these articles. They’d prefer the giant SKIP button.

Polygon is down the shitter, and Kotaku is next. God bless.

Games journalists really sound like they just dont like playing videogames. Its like being put on the sports section when you dont like sports I imagine. Why the hell would a fan of the thing want to listen to the opinions of someone like that.

He'll still die in that game if he can't time at least some of the dodges, even on easy mode. Unless he grinds, which that article makes it sound like he wouldn't want to do.

On lower difficulties or as a cheat? Yeah.

It's obvious game journalists fucking HATE games and playing videogames. Everyone knows that, and yet they're still doing their job. How is that possible in this day and age?
Like, the mask came off a long time ago, and literally everyone, even normies, started to notice the bullshit they write is dishonest, so why are they still here?

players should not skip them and shouldn't be allowed

however, I'm willing to allow disabled people a free pass if their reflexes aren't good enough and allow them to continue playing the game
and at the same time, if a player has spent $80 on a game, should they be forbidden to view all the content they paid for?

but whats the best way for the game to allow this?
nintendo has a decent system where if it sees you're struggling on a level, it offers to show you how to get through it, or to bypass it entirely

maybe a similar thing could be you can skip the fight if you lost 3x in a row, but that sequence is marked incomplete in the game totals til you beat it properly

and maybe the player shouldn't get the full ending if they didn't clear all the bosses?

People who don't like playing games. Think of that old XKCD comic with the faggot who thinks everyone else is only pretending to like beer. That's what these people are like with video games.

what if it's a 5 year old child?

the reason why zelda games got really easy after ocarina/majora is cause most people got stuck on the puzzles, and ended up never beating the game
imagine putting in 3-5 years of work into a game that people didn't even get to see

Can't you just turn down the difficulty?

Just use cheat engine.

most people are just retarded man and that's why a lot of people are scared of videogames or dislike them, cause they're uncoordinated
this is also why shit games like minecraft and animal crossing have been really popular despite not having any real challenge...

they SHOULD git gud like us, but they won't

we should've gatekept harder

Why not just watch a no commentary let's play on YT at this point?

I think people who don't want to play the video game should just do something else with their time.

kotaku

IMG_5225.gif - 390x357, 2.68M

have an easy, normal, hard mode

lock difficulty on selection

there, fixed

if games featured an unadorned god mode with various exploits as a standard feature I would be ok with it. I just can't stand the cloying self importance, selling it as a needed accessibility feature.

harder difficulty just turn enemies into bullet sponge

difficulty selection is a cancer for video games

Can I buy video games NOT to play them?

game is too hard

skip it by googling '[game] credits"

I literally beat the game

Anyone who thinks this way deserves rape

A profession that deleted their entire profession from the job market because of how incompetent they were

How do game journalists even get the money when no one even clicks on their site?

at some point people are gonna start asking for skippable levels in puzzle games so they can enjoy the plot or whatever

Mind you, a goldfish once beat a elden ring boss

as fun as that is that's kind of meaningless unless it did that in less than say a dozen tries

They all click on each other's sites.

I think game devs could sell playthroughs as games, consumer wouldn’t even need to download anything

Why are people who don't want to play a video game playing video games?

Hardcore Minecraft has been getting really popular for the past few years so even normalfags want challenge
It's really just journalists and women who want shit to be easy

They aren't. Gameplay, mechanics etc is the most fun in p5, I liked the hand crafted dungeons but others hate it. The side characters just suck, and the 10 minute phone text chat scenes are absurd. The futaba week made me want to drop the game, cringiest ever put into a game.

P4 and p3 have a lot better social quests. I didn't care for the overall atmosphere of 3.

games are kiddy shit, Journalism is a serious job

forbidden to see all content

They don't even need to buy the game they can just watch YouTube video of it.

Due what wegs do when people don't like the combat grind. They convert it to renpy to be a visual novel instead.

They don't

Most "gamers" don't actually like playing videogames funnily enough. They immediately look up a guide or walkthrough when they encounter a challange that wasn't designed for 3 year olds; hell some even open the guides before they even start the game.
This is also the reason why all the first mods for a new game are always the ones to make it even more braindead, no x limit no negative consequences for doing y etc.

You sound like your mom drank while pregnant with you, reddit spacer. Thankfully because of that you aren't a video game developer.

I've always looked up guides for collectibles, if it's lore ones. I don't think revisiting places to scour around is fun.

I hate that you're right.
The most popular mods for MH, after the mods that enable everything else, tend to be droprate enhancers, the ability to buy everything in shops and HP bars/overlays.

lmao, looks like those italian brainrot memes

Skip boss

Have to live without some key item or shortcut or otherwise increase the difficulty of the game because you didn't kill the boss

This is a great system and you know it

modern AAA games designed for toddlers would never actually do this though

if you didn't complete the game you have no right to call it your favorite

I think this is one of those cursed video game development problems.
No matter what you do to a game, chances are, around half the people that purchase your product will not see the end credits, the statistics and reasonings behind this vary but it WILL always happen, you can try to improve on this by adding more "accesibility" and such, make the game easier, simpler, make it a movie game, make it play itself, maybe the statistics of people who play the game will increase but it won't ever reach 100%, and in the end, usually this carries alongside it a bunch of concessions that end up making the game just straight up worse, less enjoyable, less like the fans of a given series have come to love and expect, just look at MHWilds for example, with it's difficulty cut in half, it's story focus, and it's incredibly short amount of time before you can see the credits, you can say many people beat the game now, but at what cost, it enshitified so many parts of the game that now the fans that actually stay will not like it as much, or hell, you may even lose old loyal fans.

Games nowadays take so much time and resources, so much money and manpower, that this problem in the modernage has skyrocketed, the more expensive a game is, the longer it took to develop, the more reason the devs have to catter to the lowest common denominator because it will make their game release safer, only a few companies avoid this MO, Fromsoftware for instance, though I'd argue Fromsoft almost does it to a fault, it seems sometimes like they want you to miss all the cool shit in their game unless you use a guide.

Why not stop playing if you clearly don't enjoy what you're doing? You don't HAVE to 100% a game, you're not even really 100% it if you're just robotically looking them up anyway.

It even applies to Anon Babble, the so called enthusiasts, the "hardcore gamers"
Take a look at the catalog, think back what kind of threads you saw this week. People talk about characters, story, sales numbers, news, how things look, porn circlejerks, """"politics"""", they usually gossip about all the secondary stuff not really pertaining to the game itself. When was the last time you genuinely discussed level design or intricacies of gameplay in detail on this trashheap? In comparison to everything else?

think of the type of person it takes to be a game journalist to begin with
who else but a failure would be willing to write articles full time for below minimum wage

Of course. Better yet make the entire game skippable

just straight up letting people skip bosses is beyond cringe.

Depends on how it's done. Being able to use your non-combat skills in really non-obvious and creative ways? Like being able to sneak through the sewers and escape from the city by hacking the traffic cameras and stuff, thus skipping the boss that's waiting to fight and capture you. That shit is based.

It's ok, I'm willing to carry this burden, I'm willing to become a villain to keep my hobby safe from subhumans

I hope the older ones are any better.

Only P2

It reminds me of this goat my neighbor had. It'd walk up to the electric fence and nibble on it, get zapped, then panic and look right at you while letting out an extremely annoyed bleat. Like it was either blaming you, or was indignant that it couldn't eat the electric wire. It would do this shit almost every day.

"Today is the day I get to eat the wire with no pain, I'm sure of it!"

Should boss fights be skippable?

Depends on the game, I suppose.
Like VTMB, I love the game but I had that the end turns into a series of boss-fights. I'd prefer a way to just nuke the room using map-exploration and/or skills than having to go through those fights, mostly because I think they're really lame.

Shitaku

I remember when idiot game journos made this same fucking argument 15 years ago

This. If the devs do something creative like sniping the end at the dock in MGS3 or like Deus Ex I'm fine with it. But just toggling a no boss option is dull.

Some people don't have the time to hone their vidya skills

No. Boss fights are skill checks and usually a game's big action set piece. Skipping them means you might as well just go watch it on youtube.

Everyday game journalists reach a new low

And their opinions should not be listened to

Instead of skipping content every dev should be focusing on making a boss select menu in post-game.
every game should have refightable bosses because most often it's the best content in the game and it's insane you have to backup a save just to replay it.

Something something journalism and politics are closely related. Something something the true essence of journalism directly sabotages the goals of politics.

People just misunderstand what journalism is. It's not that they incompetent, it's just that their job is to bite the hand that is feeding them, which as we know is not the smartest thing to do.

If you're bad at video games you're bad at life. There's no such thing as a hard video game.

Let's say you can only skip the boss if you can run directly to New Vegas or understand Morrowind sword combat. Probably too hard for Anon Babble though.

I will never understand while video game "journalists" don't love VN games. They could just play them instead.

Because those don't exist when you're getting paid to review a game before release.

Why would the devs want people to skip something they put a lot of work into?

there's too many games where you do extra stuff to make bosses easier. they should do the opposite and make you do stuff to unlock the extra challenge

I'll never understand the desire to skip boss fights they're one of the most memorable things in video games.
