Early 2026

early 2026

Hopes? Fears? Expectations?

We already had this thread but

Hopes

SteamHome finally gets updated and engoodened

Fears

VR irreparably fucked by Faceberg

Expectiations

VR's probably still fucked but Valve fixes at least flat screen games and stuff in it so it's nicer to use without having to pay money for basic features

In reality you will get a >1200$ subpar product and still paypig because let's be honest here VRfags are VERY desperate

You'll still paypig >:(

The situation with VR wouldn't be so fucking dire if people were paypigging.
People that have attended an Oculus/Meta VR and are legally barred from saying it's bad notwithstanding, although this doesn't actually translate to any money.

paypig for what exactly? A fuckhuge box on your head with wires? lol. There is no innovation aside from progress in other technology sectors which cross with VR

oled, decent res, non-diver goggles fov and i'm happy. basically a higher res, higher fov samsung odyssey.

totally happening and NOt made up

Pay pig for ludicrously overpriced and low feature software and headsets.
Nobody's actually doing that.

Hopes?

Inside out tracking. With optional lighthouses
Display port
Improved knuckle controllers

Fears?

Standalone
Wifi streaming to PC for PCVR
Abandoning finger tracking with the controllers

Expectations?

See fears

low feature software

The average normie can't even open powershell in Windows lmao no one cares about that. The issue is the fact it's bulky af, makes you look RETARDED and has no games

Bulky as fuck

Total meme

Makes you look retarded

Nobody actually cares about this

Has no games

Close to, but not hitting for how broad the issue is with VR software.

t. ostracized from society

Hopes

This fad dies

Fears

Good games are locked to this crap

Expectations

Overpriced garbage gimmick 2.0

Deckard isn't Index 2. Deckard is a standalone headset, so it's fairly low powered, like Facebook's stuff.
Index 2 is supposedly in development though.

hopes

Pancake lenses, wide FoV, controllers with replacable batteries, comfortable balanced weight

fears

Cost. Incompatibility with current base stations and FBT. Availability. Awkward/painful ergonomics.

expectations

Overpriced, overhyped, under-delivered. Merely above average performance for a premium price just because it bears the valve index branding.

You can keep screaming and crying, but at the end of the day the issue's going to remain the same.
It's annoying to make general use of a VR headset
And despite being 2025 basically the only thing worth firing up is Half Life Alyx.

VRChat got ruined by NFT retards

SteamHome is basically dead because the ONLY fucking people that can make stuff for it have to be on Windows and Windows users don't make shit in this day and age if it isn't literally their fucking job

A literal mountain of pic related

VRarbage.png - 769x866, 20.72K

you sound really insecure, thought to let you know

If you want to have a debate rewrite that post in a coherent manner, in English

Hopes

Abandon SteamVR completely and just develop the same kind of relationship with Monado that they have with Wine.
Release a good Linux based (not poodroid) VR-capable portable PC and a separate wireless add-on instead of falling for the standalone meme.
No integrated batteries.
Keep the lighthouses as an option, but add an additional inside-out tracking system.
Generic Displayport input.

Fears

Standalone, locked-down Androidslop.
Lighthouses obsolete or not forward compatible.
The forbidden marshmallow.

Expectations

It won't release this year.

loonix troon

Many such cases yet fewer by the day, thankfully.

I hope when they do index 2 they keep full finger sensing, unleck deckard and only sensing thumb and pointer.

you sound really insecure

Says the retard crying that I said the actual shit you can do with VR is in a terrible situation and is coping about how you just look dumb wearing a headset

has a meltdown

Called it.

Whether or not I use Linux is irrelevant, the problem is windows users don't make shit, and that's kind of important if your software relies on user created data.

What's stopping someone from just using the index controllers with the deckard?

Who cares
if it's not under $500 complete and done, and at the very least wireless, and ideally standalone, it won't compete at all with the quest.
quest literally just works as a fucking regular ass headset when connected to a PC.

Cease being a freetard and admit you got hardware filtered by W11. Windows users make EVERYTHING meanwhile loonix trannies are fighting over which globohomo message to include in 'free and open source' software lmao

Needs to be affordable above all else or VR will continue to go nowhere.

Hope

300-400€ all in one headset, including controllers

Fears

No controllers included

Expectations

1000€+ premium headset, playerbase and number of games will stay a very small minority.

How's the support for Windows Mixed Reality headsets on Windows 11?

That's just it, we don't know. If Vavle decides that the thumb and pointer way is the prefered method (because nobody else's vr stuff does all 5 fingers) they might discontinue the index controllers.
Or they could just continue making them forever because of all the furries and vr ethots that use them for their thirst trap twitch models.

Is that why the modding scene for literally fucking everything is dead as shit these days?

Windows Mixed Reality

It's dead.

While we don't know price, Deckard is standalone.

Not my problem

?

loonix jeets can play any almost Windows game now yet contribute nothing, zero, nada

it won't be available in switzerland just like the fucking deck so i don't care.
it'd be marked up an insane degree too, fuck this gay country.

Shouldn't have used up all of those fascist gold reserves huh

If valve has not officially said something then don't assume anything. For christ sake there's some really bait clickbaity channels for VR that keep making fake Deckard/Index 2 dates. Stop listening to them, they do this all the time. Stop waiting to buy in either or holding off if you're waiting for a Valve announcement. If you're a flight simmer follow the enthusiast channels that talk about the top PCVR gear and seek their advice. Then do your own research on top of that.

Hopes?

No shitty battery reliant standalone headset with inside-out tracking

Fears?

Shitty battery reliant standalone headset with inside-out tracking

Expectations?

Shitty battery reliant standalone headset with inside-out tracking
