romance languages are kinda of a pain to learn because of the verbs and gendered words, it's a lot of stuff, plus italian has a pretty strict "what you see is how you read it" rule with some exceptions. So I'd say learn to conjugate the verbs (something italians struggle with as well) and watch/listen to italian stuff for the pronunciation, though I'm no professor so stick to the course since they'll know more about how to teach stuff. And read a lot.

I started on Italian as well. Using pronouns with verbs is pretty cool but I'm fucking stumped on something. Why is the word for skull 'cranio' but the plural is 'teschi'? Shouldn't it be like..crani or something? Or would that be the same as saying something like "hippopotamuseses."

It's interesting to think about what actual reasons I'd have to learn and use a given language and if it would be remotely worth it. Like, I've learnt Japanese and use it practically all the time, Japan just produces so much cool shit and you have the flexibility to directly engage with everything they do with this. The one other language that I encounter or engage with material from frequently and would be interesting in developing ability at is German.

Italian is weird, because in principle it's the best 'singing language', but even though I actually listen to Opera and a considerable amount of sung traditional/classical music, I rarely actually listen to Italian opera specifically, and even then it's mostly down to select arias by Mozart.
