A painter can become lost to a canvas, which is why Renoir wanted to pull Aline out before it was too late... and the same would happen to Alicia because she is committed to staying.

Verso is unwilling. Alicia will further lose herself if not outright die. For the Painters, Verso's canvas has to be destroyed if they are to heal and move on from his death. It of course means erasing everything in it and all of its inhabitants.
