Its success just because it's mid in a world of shit is very dire for future JRPGs because le parry souls nonsense has no place in turn based combat and whoever thinks it does is a fucking buffoon

The Mario RPGs have been doing it for decades.

games for 5 year olds

t. would have already gommaged by the time the game came out

go to bed granpa

Yeah this whole "omg it completely changes turn based!" seems astroturfed as it's complete bullshit. I was describing this games combat system to my brother and he instantly said "oh like Mario RPG?".

it's mid in a world of shit

overly generous. I found it to be just another pretentious indie shit in the septic tank of modern gayming.

AAAAIIIIIEEEEE WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO ENGAGE WITH THE GAME WHEN ENEMIES DO THEIR 15-SECOND LONG ANIMATIONS

zoomer uses word from shitty game as an insult

go eat some tide pods, insipid faggot

Sure I guess. The only major competition is Atlus and their games are all very similar, have been for decades, so there's a lot of stagnation in the genre. Indie games are good but people need a big budget game sometimes too. Whatever. I'm not gonna play it, I'm happy with indies.

Yea, not entirely wrong.
If this was released during the PS2 era of JRPGs with similar graphics it wouldnt be a big deal

Did people forget the Mario RPG game did this decades before? People have a weird recency bias to compare things to what is recently popular even if the mechanic has been done before in the past.

I thought it was an 8.5 but I've recently bumped it up to a 9 because all the Anon Babblebrown butthurt made me enjoy the game that much more. Malt vinegar on my fried fish, if you will.

Do you mean Mario & Luigi? No other game did anything remotely similar to the memorization of the enemy attack patterns in E33. It's pure Souls influence.

memorization

lol
lmao
get ears bro

5 years old are better at videogames and more mature than half of Anon Babble

true

The Mario RPGs are more creative with it, its not just PARRY/DODGE/JUMP/QTE and a lot of it takes it's cue from the platform games. This game just plops out of nowhere with a FFX/Third Age ripped battle system and souls slop tacked on. They are not the same.
also lmao at your appeal to tendie fallacy

"Super Mario RPG"

you mean mario and luigi?

zoomers were born after super mario rpg. its not even their fault

Its success comes from multiple factors, but amongst the biggest deciding factor is the combination of its writing, dialogue, art direction, presentation and the glue that holds it all together. It's not a faggoty Japanese game filled with their stilted, annoying tropes and dialogue and anime artstyle. The combat is serviceable and addictive in its own way. It's definitely reminiscent of old JRPGs where it gets its inspiration from. However, it's the aforementioned perfect storm of it not being dull Japanese highschool tier wish fulfilment shite on top of the many good qualities it has.

33 indie devs mogged this garbage company.

Every time someone cites the Mario RPG, they fail to understand that people don't give a fuck about childish Nintendo shit. You stupid mouthbreathers.

It's not a faggoty Japanese game filled with their stilted, annoying tropes and dialogue and anime artstyle

I'm a weeb and I actually still agree, but it's sort of sad Yakuza 7/8's old person cast got a little attention for this same reason but E33 takes the entire credit.
Oh well, normalfags. What you going to do? Doesn't change the fact that E33 was great, either.

It's just that Seven Stars is so basic compared to E33 that they're practically nothing alike. It's a retarded thing to say, but it's the most common comparison that gets made.

I don't care faggot.
Is the game perfect? No.
But in a sea of complete shit it's refreshing to see a game that at least has a vision other than AAA open world template slop.
You can literally feel the devs poured their soul into this so I will support it. Simple as. Because that's where the industry needs to go.
Now if that's not your case, good for you. nuDoom™ is around the corner and it will rise your dopamine for 7 hours while you scroll on tiktok to watch the next GTA trailer slop.

no wonder weebs, fags, and Anon Babbleiggers like this game. shoot yourself in the head to summon a pretend tranny unicorn and ignore all game mechanics, just like their real life

other than AAA open world

Why don't you just play anything other than whatever AAA slop is topping the charts? What are you doing, forcing yourself to play Avowed? I don't have this problem because I like video games.

You can literally feel the devs poured their soul into this

Isn't it funny how all the arguments have some variation of

"a breath of fresh air"

"small indie dev team"

"poured their soul into it"

And yet these same people can never articulate what exactly was "good" about COE33 in a meaningful and intelligent manner?

Honestly I find the parry and dodge mechanics to be kind of fun, it's the Elden Ring delayed attacks that somehow wormed there way into this game that I have a problem with

100 IQ post

you have no idea how retarded you sound asking for objective opinions

Why and how is that supposed to be good?

I'm talking about very ambitious games. I also FOTM steam slop but it's just not the same feeling.

Disingenuous retards like you operate in the same way. You want an epic gotcha moment like you are doing right now. There is no answer that will satisfy you. I've noticed your ilk in every single thread. Either you play it if you're as interested as you claim to be, or fuck off and play something you actually want to play, you complete imbecile.

The story was alright. Music is decent. That's literally it.

Holy fuck, OP is so mad he is barely coherent

Consooming big budget games because it feels like you're a part of something is as fotm as it gets

Look man I was the same way, it seems weird that everyone says the same thing, but just play it and you'll see it does feel a lot of passion was put in it. Now you probably won't like that answer so let me give some honest criticism, the game isn't a masterpiece. It's good for its combat, music, and overall presentation and it's a solid 7/10 for the way everything comes together but it has flaws. It's weakest part imo is the actual narrative and characters. The devs seem to want a grand whimsy adventure and make you fall in love with the characters, but also a dark souls melancholic hands off storytelling style and it just doesn't mix well. At times it feels they are trying to force the vintage JRPG feelings but forgot that the journey the characters go through is what makes those games endearing to everyone, and in this one I just felt hardly anything towards them. It has good ideas but the writing imo is YA fantasy reddit writing. It's like someone who only watches anime and movies tried to mimic Dostoyevsky. Other than that it's a great game and well made, just don't take it too seriously because I can tell you right now it isn't overthrowing my top games any time soon.

Raped over and over again

you just think it's good because its the first good game of its genre since the ps2

the Elden Ring delayed attacks

Fucking this, ER only has it because From is expected to release le difficult games but people got too good at parrying normal Souls shit so they went for that bullshit but there is zero need to have this in E33

you just think it's good because you choose to remain ignorant of the countless good turn-based games that come out every year which don't get astroturfed into oblivion

That shit is so repulsively slow, Pokemon tier even
At least E33 knows how to keep it fluid and smooth and fast

Are people trying to pretend SMRPG is a good RPG now? People care about it because it's a Mario game, not because it has good RPG mechanics.

every year

lul, the last good one was dq11 and they ruined it with an uglier demake for all the self insert faggot losers

Tropes are not something that can be annoying, they're tools needed to tell stories

I'd still probably keep the Superstar Saga comparison over Mario RPG or even the first Paper Mario since that was strictly "reduce damage on a successful block" as far as defense goes, where E33 and M&L both make it possible to avoid taking a single point of damage if your good at the timing during any given fight(as long as you aren't trying to fight the White Hexga before you get the Gradient Counter, that was fucking awful).

You're right, turn based should be solely about using the fire spell on the enemy weak to fire (160+IQ required)

because le parry souls nonsense has no place in turn based combat

this is debatable i guess but the real takeaway is that the estus flask/bonfire system actually DOES work incredibly well for a jrpg

Devs have known this for over a decade.

fag contrarians try to insult game for mechanic being supposedly zoomershit

get insulted because the mechanic is actually old, they're the zoomers who don't play games for thinking otherwise

the fag contrarian then gaslights himself into thinking the entire genre sucks

Funny to see in this thread with the Mario RPG gimmick. How many other times has this happened lately? Off the top of my head I remember Anon Babble hating Elden Ring so much they swore off the entire genre of soulslikes.

Jarvis, jerk it a little

They forgot about the "reviving dead party members when you wipe so you don't have to waste time teleporting twice" part in this shit game.
