They're not. Its monitor latency. CRTs had no latency at all. You're being hamstrung by shittier tech that's less precise. I tested this in a number of games both offline and online recording video, going over it frame by frame. Very clear headshots that should've hit did not, timed blocks failed that should not have failed. Deaths around corners, all sorts of weirdness happens that can't be attributed alone to connection latency and it all comes down to milliseconds of difference. Coincidentally the exact amount of latency flat screen displays tend to have.

So everyone has to do deal with this disadvantage of course, to lesser or greater degrees depending on the display device. However if you learned to play on CRTs originally, your brain is trained for as instantaneous a reaction time as humanly possible. Usually exceeding the average human reaction time. People who have grown up playing on flat screens are adapted to the display device having a delay and probably never consciously notice they've been hard capped by it. They don't even attempt to make those shots they subconsciously know are impossible but you do and its just not working because your target is actually six pixels outside the area needed for a hit instead of six pixels inside it as your device displays. So in conclusion, you're maladjusted to your hardware, which is too slow for you.

The amount of fun you have in defrag really depends on the map. You got your basic weapons maps like the one in the OP that's kind of a medium-tier, got your your baby's first strafemaps like and then there's shit like wsad-hell where only a couple dozen people have ever completed it because it's just such bullshit.
While they're not fun to play, it's a lot of fun to spectate others trying bullshit maps and failing to perfect a triple xrj for like an hour before finally nailing it. As much as I played defrag, I was probably honestly using it more as just a fancy ass chat server.

It would be better to have 360Hz OLED vs 480Hz IPS for most players as the smoothed, non blurry movement gives you a much bigger edge in tracking aim which is way more important than seeing someone .78 milliseconds faster.
