I miss this series like you wouldn't believe. I miss Mars core games inspired by Total Recall.

Literally only one (1) good game out of how many?
Agreed, the first one had my jaw dropping, then they went in such a different direction on earth with the nano technology that it just died.
Every game in the series is good, it’s just that they can’t stick to a single idea.
i really liked both 1 and guerilla, the latter having the best destructible environments in almost any game to date. damn shame the series was killed by the fucking SyFy channel of all things
I love the first game. The enemy combat dialogue has been stuck in my head ever since childhood.
Die, miner!
Just you and me, miner!
Scum!
From the ones I've played, only guerilla was decent and that was purely because of the destruction gimmick which got old very fast
I liked the first game. Then they abandoned the tunnel digging and my interest evaporated.
Literally can hear those lines.
Youre a dead man!
Don't do it, please!
first one was good
guerrilla was good for the building destruction
too bad now with hardly any limitations they can't take the better of both games
Better than Half Life
As a kid this guy and his whole section would give me nightmares. I remember some giant flower beast thing you could find in one of the tunnels in Capek's labs, it was terrifying.
this
i enjoyed a little of guerrilla but 2 was shit

Crazy how RF2 ended up reusing like half the soundtrack for no reason.
Was it really the SyFy channel that caused them to make Armageddon? I guess that explains the stupid alien plotline.
To be fair it's a really good soundtrack. This right here is my favorite bit by far.

Red Faction: Armageddon is a third-person shooter video game developed by Volition and published by THQ in association with the TV network Syfy.
I think they also did a tv movie about it that no one cared about, and the IP has been dead ever since. Truly fucking tragic, thats a series that really deserved to live and continue on to future console/hardware generations. Imagine the level of destruction we would be at now if it survived
Good environmental destruction is LosTech to modern devs, no way a new game would be as good as Guerilla even if it existed.
I'm not saying it's bad. Just weird that they reused it in the sequel which had nothing to do with Mars and the original in general.

Yeah I know, I was just using the opportunity to praise 1 since I didn't care for 2
Wait Anon Babble doesn't like RF2???
I loved both as a kid but the cast of characters in 2 was so dope and the twist after killing Sopot was neat
I thought Shryke and Repta were the coolest dudes

Speeches do sound cool in German
why did they stop making these games? I remember these were very popular back in the day. all of OG youtube had red faction videos and people demolishing shit.
You guys greatly misremember how "good" the destruction physics were
destroy 3 load bearing I beams
it stands because 1 remaining I beam in the southwest corner is keeping it standing
It has the same destruction physics as deeprock which noone is really touts as anything worth mentioning
only destruction we get is battlefield
and its scripted and shit
i wouldn't consider minecraft and that dwarf game destruction worth mentioning
It has the same destruction physics as deeprock which noone is really touts as anything worth mentioning
because the game is shit
I don't even care for destruction that much, the games were just fun for what they were
They're OK when modded. The game itself, however, was way shittier than I remembered when I replayed it recently. It's one of those 7th gen games where everything you do feels slightly "off".
It's just not as impressive compared to 1. Although initially I did like 2, in retrospect it was like playing Fear 2 after 1. Both were more story focused but made little improvement on the technical side of things, even going backwards in some cases, like env. destruction. Yes it was a gimmick in 1 but it made it stand out and I think they should've doubled down on that.
my friend had the first game and i played some of it but don't remember much besides the cool destructible environment
Saints Row really took off, and after THQ collapsed, Deep Silver bought the IP and kept pushing the devs to make more.
Saints Row 3 was an okay game, but it blew up at the time because people were starved for GTA-style open-world games. On its own, it’s a decent game—but not a great Saints Row game. With SR4, it became obvious that interest was fading, especially since GTA V dropped just a month later. That poor game never stood a chance.
They tried to pivot with Agents of Mayhem (which is packed with SR references), but no one really cared. Worse, they never made it clear that it was meant to be a spiritual successor to Saints Row. Then came the reboot… and now we don’t just lose Saints Row, we lose everything else too.
tl;dr, mismanagment.
All I have to say is FUCK the stealth section, that's all.
Bullshit out of nowhere forced stealth segment where you gotta use the 'hide the bodies' mechanic you never use before or after and instant fail if caught
What were they thinking
the only thing i recall about that game was being able to shoot holes in the wall. dug a deep cave and just spammed rockets in the local multiplayer mode.
unless you replayed the fuck out of a game . i doubt you remember much after a few months
I liked the first three, for different reasons.
2 was fun in multiplayer
Red Faction Guerilla's destruction physics were good though. As for Red Faction's destruction physics: me and my friend used to play death match and dig holes into walls and made some pretty crazy deep ones, we created whole mining tunnel networks. As if that's not impressive? not as impressive as games like Teardown. But still pretty cool.
make a tech demo game that basically lets you dig/blast through levels how you want
its extremely fucking expensive
making games is the only way to make money so the solution is a cheaper sequel
RF2 isn't as good but it keeps the lights on for the next project
bet the house on RF:gorilla
its another fucking tech demo that lets you blast/smash down buildings to finish missions how you want
9/10 game but it was released against COD 4, Halo 3, asscreed, gta 4 and basically some of the best selling games in history.
surprise, its extremely fucking expensive and competition won
the solution is a cheaper sequel
RF:Armageddon is so bad it basically ends this bizzare experiment
We got 2 games that still hold up today. RF and gorilla are still a ton of fun and I regularly recommend gorilla as a hidden gem. It aged well. If it was released later or earlier, it would have been huge.
check teardown
minecraft artstyle
i'm dissapointed
Sorry, modern games cant run phisics. Its all about muh raytracing muh graphics now.
The artstyle is a bit disappointing, but the game itself is fun. I got it for like 5 bucks, definitely worth pirating
Armageddon felt like a tired version of gears of war. The enemies were generic blobs and the entire game took place in these forgettable and generic tunnels. The upgrade system felt like a cheap gimmick and the entire time I was just praying I would find a place like Eos from RFG. Fighting in multi level destruable building with bridges and windows was the coolest part of the game and it was completely gone.
