Yeah, the modern Primaris-ified Space Marine army is absolutely terrible and soulless and as an RTS it's going to be impossible to wriggle out of it. Space Marine 2 got away with it by being super zoomed in on an individual guy and his two buddies and then treating them almost exactly as old-school Marines before they turned into Aspect Warriors for some fucking reason. Dawn of War is absolutely going to be saddled with the dumb Primaris units with their even dumber names.
The logic is probably that real threats like nids and orc waghs are too much for normal space marine 1,000 man legions, so primaris can heroically successfully defend against such threats instead of being wiped out
but the real problem was always ammo
hurr 100-400 space marines won Dark Crusade because um they have infinity BILLION ammo and like um each bolter explodes 1,000 xenos per shot (still wouldn't be enough to make up for the numbers difference)

Which is a totally different problem as well. One of the main reasons the guns of the models are comically large is that it's easier to see what the model is carrying, thus easier to identify at a quick glance. A storm bolter isn't just a different bolter variant, it's a new model bit that looks different from the standard bolter. Same for the heavy bolter, and all of the special weapons. All the boltgun variants look too similar, because the base bit is the same, you just swap out the little spinny bit where the ejection port on the upper receiver would be. It's stupid, and accounts for people who either don't play the game or didn't account for that.
AoE2 was superior to IV in all aspects because the retards at relic are still the former blizzard employees aping SC2 Mechanics into a fucking medieval game.

I don't think it was that. I think it has more to do with GW losing a lawsuit over copyright relating to generic fantasy creatures like orcs and skeletons. Cue Age of Sigmar making "Duardin" and "Orruks" or 40k now having "Codex: Adeptus Astartes" and Dark Eldar becoming "Drukhari". It's them throwing the baby with the bathwater to have copyrightable names and images after losing something they shouldn't have fought in the first place.
